  • The purpose of this study was to test whether sales promotions of strategic alliances affected brand switching intention and brand loyalty in family restaurants. The types of sales promotions included monetary benefits/non-monetary benefits, and immediate benefit (benefits immediately after consumers agreed to accept promotion)/delayed benefits (benefits received at a later time). For this purpose, a questionnaire survey was completed by 355 customers of family restaurants in Daegu between December 15, of 2009 and January 31, 2010. The study-findings indicated that (1) monetary benefits (application opportunity for gift certificate benefits and price discount benefits) were found to affect brand switching intention and brand loyalty; (2) brand switching intention was partly affected by non-monetary benefits (mileages accumulations benefits, presents benefits, and samples benefits), and (3) brand loyalty was partly influenced by non-monetary benefits (mileages accumulations benefits, presents benefits and electronic newsletter benefits). This study also found that (1) brand switching intention and brand loyalty were partly affected by immediate benefits (sample benefits, presents benefits, and price discount benefits; (2) brand switching intention was partly influenced by delayed benefits (application opportunity for gift certificate benefits and mileages accumulations benefits), and (3) brand loyalty was affected by delayed benefits (application opportunity for gift certificate benefits, mileages accumulations benefits, and electronic newsletter benefits). Based on these findings, family restaurants should use sales promotions as a tool for decreasing brand switching intention and increasing brand loyalty.

Brand loyalty and switching costs are major determinants of inclinations toward incumbent smartphones. This study addresses the research question, "what roles brand loyalty and switching costs play in the purchase of new smartphones?". Design/methodology/approach A research model consisting of six hypotheses for explaining purchase intentions toward new smartphone was proposed considering inclinations toward incumbent brands. The research model was empirically tested based on purchase intentions toward the LG smartphone brand G4, employing a sample of 177 university students in Korea. The data were analyzed using the PLS technique. The results provide support for all hypotheses. Findings First, perceived inclinations toward incumbent smartphone, brand loyalty and switching costs, explained the purchase of new smartphones as well as the perception of new smartphone. Second, brand loyalty was found to play the role of moderator between switching costs and relative advantage in the purchase of new smartphone. • Using hourly SMP data from 2016 to 2020, this paper measures the weekly realized volatility and investigates the main force of its determinants. To this end, we extend the Bayesian variable selection by incorporating the regime-switching model which identifies important variables among a large number of predictors by regimes. We find that the increase in coal and nuclear generation, as well as solar power, reinforce the SMP volatility in both high volatility and low volatility regime. In contrast the increase in gas generation and gas price decrease SMP volatility when SMP volatility is high. These results suggest that the expansion of renewable energy according to 2050 Carbon Neutrality or energy transition policies increases SMP volatility but the increase in the gas generation or reduction of coal generation might offset its impact.

  • This study was performed to analyze GHG (Greenhouse gas) reduction effectiveness and economic feasibility in the wood pellet fuel switching project using JCDM (Japan Clean Development Mechanism) and KVER (Korea Voluntary Emission Reduction)data. The major data for the analyses consist of investment costs, annual GHG reductions, fuel prices and GHG credit prices. The wood pellet fuel switching projects are the $CO_2$-zero projects. Therefore, these projects are essential to accomplish the GHG mitigation target, especially in Korea. In order to raise the economic feasibility of the wood pellet fuel switching project, the results of this study suggest that the Korean government should reduce the price of wood pellet through the supply on a large scale and raise the KCER price of wood pellet fuel switching project.

For this purpose, this study posited three service quality characteristics including interface, service, price quality as key determinants of customer loyalty and switching intention based on relevant literature reviews. A research model and hypotheses concerning the relationship between these variables were constructed. Moreover, this study explored the moderating effects of attractiveness of alternative and switching costs on the relationship between customer loyalty and switching intention. An online survey was administrated on 433 mobile music service users and a simple, multiple, and hierarchical regression analysis were employed. The results indicated that all of interface, service, price quality have significant positive influences on customer loyalty, and both of service quality and attractiveness of alternatives have influences on the switching intention in a positive way. On the other way, it was shown that switching costs have a negative influence on the switching intention. The moderating effect of attractiveness of alternatives on the relationship between customer loyalty and switching intention was also found. The implications of these results are discussed.
