  • The Ameloblastoma is a true neoplasm of enamel organ-type tissue histopathologically. Ameloblastoma is recognized as a benign tumor, but its clinical behavior is locally invasive. Therefore treatment of choice is surgical resection rather than conservative enucleation. This is a case report about En-bloc excision of granular ameloblastoma arising from dentigerous cyst in the right mandibular angle area of 50-year male patient. He visited local clinic with chief complaint of facial swelling on the right mandibular angle area. Surgical removal was performed by cyst enucleation and En-bloc excision with preservation of inferior border of mandible. After 1 year, iliac bone graft was done and hyperbaric oxygen therapy was applied. We obtained a good result of bony regeneration without any sign of recurrence.

  • The Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (inflammatory pseudotumor) is a rarely occurring soft tissue lesion of unknown etiology. It can be of any location, but commonly it is found in lungs. It has been considered as a nonneoplastic reactive inflammatory lesion, but nowadays, confusion and dispute about its character is increasing due to its high recurrence rate and metastasis. We present a patient who had been diagnosed with an inflammatory pseudotumor in the right maxilla area, 1 year before visiting our hospital. After that, her pain and swelling did not resolved and she visit our hospital. On radiographic examination, aggressively infiltrative growth of the lesion with destruction of adjacent bony structure was noted. We found unusual aggressiveness of the inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor of the head and neck region. Because the typical behavior of the inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor is not defined yet, we recommend the surgical excision of the lesion and close follow-up.

  • Crosslinked chitosan was prepared from chitin after reaction with epichlorohydrin followed by deacetylation at C2-position. Epidermal releasing polymeric matrix was prepared after swelling crosslinked chitosan with distilled water and adding silver sulfadiazine and glycerine as a plasticiser. The release behavior of silver sulfadiazine from polymeric matrix was studied in pH 7.4 phosphate buffer solution by varing the drug content, glycerine concentration, and the thickness of the matrix. The drug release time was delayed by increasing the content of silver sulfadiazine and the thickness of the matrix, whereas decreased as glycerine concentration increased. The apparent constant(K) of release rate was independent upon the matrix thickness, but was proportional to the content of drug or glycerine of crosslinked chitosan matrix. These results indicated that chitosan matrix showed some potential as a drug delivery system for transdermal therapeutic application.

  • Since 2001, a series of five irradiation test campaigns for atomized U-Mo dispersion fuel rods, KOMO-1, -2, -3, -4, and -5, has been conducted at HANARO (Korea) in order to develop high performance low enriched uranium dispersion fuel for research reactors. The KOMO irradiation tests provided valuable information on the irradiation behavior of U-Mo fuel that results from the distinct fuel design and irradiation conditions of the rod fuel for HANARO. Full size U-Mo dispersion fuel rods of 4-5 $g-U/cm^3$ were irradiated at a maximum linear power of approximately 105 kW/m up to 85% of the initial U-235 depletion burnup without breakaway swelling or fuel cladding failure. Electron probe microanalyses of the irradiated samples showed localized distribution of the silicon that was added in the matrix during fuel fabrication and confirmed its beneficial effect on interaction layer growth during irradiation. The modifications of U-Mo fuel particles by the addition of a ternary alloying element (Ti or Zr), additional protective coatings (silicide or nitride), and the use of larger fuel particles resulted in significantly reduced interaction layers between fuel particles and Al.

  • Synthesis and dielectric properties of glass-ceramic composites with zinc borosilicate glass(here after ZBS glass) were investigated as functions of $ZnAl_2O_4$ phase synthesis method, glass addition (50~60 vol%) and sintering temperature ($600{\sim}950^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs). The 50 vol% ZBS glass-$Al_2O_3$ and 60 vol% ZBS glass-$ZnAl_2O_4$ ensured successful sintering below $900^{\circ}C$. But the composition of 100-x-y vol% ZBS glass-x vol% $Al_2O_3-y$ vol% ZnO exhibited poor sinterability below $900^{\circ}C$ and the swelling phenomenon occurred in this composite with the large amount of ZBS glass. The sintering behavior of Glass-ceramic composites was affected by the crystallization of $ZnAl_2O_4$ which was formed by the reaction between ZBS glass and $Al_2O_3$. Dielectric constant (${\varepsilon}_r$), $Q{\times}f$ value and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency (${\tau}_f$) of the composite with 50 and 60 vol% ZBS glass contents demonstrated $ZBS-Al_2O_3({\varepsilon}_r=5.7)$, $ZBS-ZnAl_2O_4({\varepsilon}_r=5.8)$ which is applicable to substrate requiring an low dielectric properties.

  • Chemical admixture stabilization has been extensively used in both shallow and deep stabilization in order to improve inherent properties of the soil such as strength and deformation behavior. An increment in strength, a reduction in compressibility, an improvement of the swelling or squeezing characteristics and increasing the durability of soil are the main aims of the admixtures for soil stabilization. Recently, the various advanced cement stabilizer mixing technique was developed. Advanced cement stabilizer mixing technique is environmentally-friendly and has an excellent mixing property and outstanding mixing speed. In this study, to develop the rural road pavement technology using cement stabilizer, compaction and unconfined compression test were performed with various mixing ratio and two types of soil(clay and silty soil). And the freezing/thaw test and bending strength test performed to develop suitable cement stabilizer material for stabilization of rural road. Based on the test results, the liquid types of cement stabilizer material and silty soil mixture are most suitable for rural road construction and although the mixing ratio is low, cement stabilizer mixture is effective for durability of rural road surface layer.

  • Poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA)/chitosan blend films with non-toxicity, biodegradability, and biocom-patibility were prepared by solution casting. Variation of the physicochemical properties of the blend films was investigated through to several analysis methods. Examination of antibacterial properties revealed that bacterio-static ratios of all blend samples containing chitosan more than 10 wt% were greater than 99.9%. Moisture regain was increased with increasing chitosan content but the degree of swelling was decreased. Up to chitosan content 15 wt%t, the melting and crystallization temperature of blend films was increased with chitosan content. The blends containing chitosan content 10 and 15 wt% gave melting temperature 229 and 228$^{\circ}C$, respectively. However, the melting temperature was decreased if chitosan content exceeded 20 wt%. The mechanical properties of the blend films were increased with increasing chitosan content in both dry and wet states. The blend film including 15 wt% chitosan exhibited unusually high tensile strength.

  • Three-dimensional network hydrogels were prepared by ${\gamma}$-irradiation of aqueous solutions of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and glycerol (Gly). Oven-drying was used to measure the gel fraction (G), hydration (H) or swelling behavior (S) of the prepared hydrogels. This study made a hypothesis that hydrogen bonds due to addition of glycerol and change of dry states such as freeze-drying (FD), room-drying (RD) and oven-drying (OD) acts on the G, H, and S. Interesting results on the hydrogen bonding effect in the prepared hydrogels are monitored at different drying conditions. The FD samples have a higher G values with increase in glycerol content as compared with the OD and RD samples. The formation of strong hydrogen bonding network among Gly molecules and hydrogel matrix was considered as the main driving force, resulting in the changes in the G, H, and S of the hydrogels under different drying conditions.

  • Methylene diisocyanate (MDI) was investigated as a novel interfacial modifier to enhance the performances of poly(methyl methacrylate)-modified starch/styrene-butadiene rubber (PMMA-modified starch/SBR) composites. Owing to the formation urethane linkage on one side and ${\pi}-{\pi}$ adhesion on the other side, MDI acted as an intermediated linkage role in the PMMA-modified starch/SBR interfaces, which was evidenced by the morphological, mechanical, dynamic mechanical and thermal decomposition studies. As a result, the presence of MDI significantly improved the mechanical properties and thermal stability of PMMA-modified starch/SBR composites. In addition, the effect of starch concentration on the various performances of the resulted MDI/PMMA-modified starch/SBR composites, such as morphology, vulcanization characteristics, mechanical properties, toluene swelling behavior, and thermal stability were investigated and discussed in detail. The obtained MDI/PMMA-modified starch/SBR composites exhibited superior mechanical properties to carbon black/SBR (CB/SBR) composites, demonstrating the potential use of the renewable starch as a substitute for CB in the rubber compounds.

  • A typical three-dimensional finite element model for a fuel assembly is established, which is composed of 16 monolithic U-10Mo fuel plates and Al alloy frame. The distribution and evolution results of temperature, displacement and stresses/strains in all the parts are numerically obtained and analyzed with a self-developed code of FUELTM. The simulation results indicate that (1) the out-of-plane displacements of Al alloy side plates are mainly attributed to the bending deformations; (2) enhanced out-of-plane displacements appear in fuel plates adjacent to the outside Al plates, which results from the occurred bending deformations due to the applied constraints of outside Al plates; (3) an intense interaction of fuel foil with the cladding occurs near the foil edge, which appears more heavily in the fuel plates adjacent to the outside Al plates. The maximum first principal stresses in the fuel foil are similar for all the fuel plates and appear near the fuel foil edge; while, the through-thickness creep strains of fuel foil in the fuel plate near the central region of fuel assembly are larger, and the induced creep damage might weaken the fuel skeleton strength and raise the fuel failure risk.
