Ideas do not become exhausted, and there are no diminishing returns in the creation of knowledge. Nonetheless, growth ultimately ceases in this simplest model of endogeneous innovation. The reasons are similar to those that are discussed in the context of the neoclassical model of capital accumulation. Even if the resource cost of creating new goods does not rise, the economic return to invention may decline as the number of available products increases. When the rate of return to R&D falls to the level of the discount rate, private agents cease to be willing to defer consumption in order to invest in product development. But, if we treat knowledge capital as a public capital considering of its non-appropriable benefits, economic growth can be sustained in the economy. Romer(1986) has pointed out that growth might be sustainable if the accumulation of knowledge is not subject to long-run diminishing returns. Actually Romer assumed diminishing returns in the production of private knowledge from available resources, but increasing returns in the production of output from labor and total (public and private) knowledge. His condition for the sustainability of long-run growth amounts to an assumption that the diminishing returns in the former activity do not outweigh the increasing returns in the latter. The Johansen(1988) cointegration test method is used for finding long-run equilibrium relationship between R&D input and the product innovation. Test results indicate the existence of cointegrating equation between each pair of regression variables including dependent variable in the knowledge production function. And, the signs of cointegrating vectors are well accord to the prediction of sustainable growth. In the empirical analysis, from all cases of the form for the knowledge production function, we could not reject the null hypothesis that R&D spillover effect is significant($H_{0}:\;{\gamma}=1$). In summary, we showed that considering goodness of fit of regression model, we can see that the empirical evidence is strongly in favor of the character of knowledge as the public knowledge capital. So, we can expect that by product innovation, economic growth can be sustained in the Korean economy.
In the fishery industry, global aquaculture production has stagnated due to overfishing of aquatic products, restrictions between countries, and climate change. The aquaculture suggests the possibility of a blue revolution that can be expanded in a new way. The aquaculture industry now accounts for more than half of the fishery products from the sea as a raw material for seafood for human consumption. Various latest biological research methods are being applied for the development of a sustainable aquaculture industry. Genomics has made significant progress in recent years. Since the genome sequence of Atlantic cod was sequenced in 2011, the genomes of more species have been sequenced. The genome information is providing a more robust and productive knowledge base for the aquaculture industry, including breeding and breeding of superior traits, improving disease resistance quality, and optimizing aquaculture feed and feed methods. This review looked at the status of genome analysis technology and the current status of genome research of aquaculture species. The development of genome research technology and massive genomic information is important in solving the challenges of the aquaculture industry and will help sustainable fisheries and aquaculture.
Background and objective: This study was conducted as part of research to promote garden diversity and seek sustainable garden management plans, as well as to determine the trends in understanding and use of companion plants as an eco-friendly farming method and provide the results as the basic data for sustainable urban agriculture. Methods: To determine the trends in garden activities, eco-friendly pest control, and use of companion plants, a survey was conducted on 230 urban residents participating in the Urban Agriculture Expert course. 223 copies of the questionnaire were collected excluding missing values, and IBM SPSS statistics Ver. 25 Program was used for frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, and regression analysis. Results: Most of the respondents were female (71.3%), homemakers (26.5%), were in their 50s (29.1%), and had 2 members in the family (27.8%). 164 respondents (73.5%) had experience in gardening, most of them once a week (31.7%) and for self-consumption (55.5%). Both men and women raised crops for safe food production (32.3%), and they most preferred the city garden type (39.9%). For the preparation of nourishment for eco-friendly garden management, most respondents (60.1%) purchased fertilizers from the market. For the reason why eco-friendly pest control is necessary, all respondents except 4 of them (98.2%) responded that it is necessary 'because it affects my health as I eat it (73.5%)', indicating that they still had a high level of interest in health. Only 43.9% of the respondents said that they had heard of companion plants, 89.2% responded that companion plants were effective in eco-friendly management, and 87.4% showed the will to participate in gardening using companion plants in the future. Finally, the regression analysis confirmed that the awareness of companion plants and satisfaction with gardening activities are key variables that increase the intention to participate in gardening activities in the future. Conclusion: Since plants require special care depending on the period and various diseases and insect pests occur, there must be continuous research on companion plants as an eco-friendly farming method. Moreover, by actively using companion plants in urban gardens with the utility value in not only eco-friendly pest control but also in helping plant growth, urban agriculture is expected to be continuously activated and promoted by increasing satisfaction in gardening activities with aesthetic landscaping and pest control.

Traditionally, like many people in mountain region of the Himalaya, the Lwang communities depend on mix of subsistence agriculture, animal husbandry, and seasonal migrant labor for their livelihoods. These traditional systems are characterized by low productivity, diverse use of available natural resources (largely for home consumption), limited markets, and some aversion for innovation. The potential to generate wealth through commerce has largely been untapped by these mountain residents and thus is undervalued in local and national economies. Introduction of organic tea farming is a part of Lwang community's several initiatives to break the vicious poverty cycle Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) played facilitating roles in all their efforts since beginning. In five years, the tea plantation emerged as a new means for secured a livelihood. This study aims to analyze the current practices in tea farming both in terms of farm management and soil nutrient status(technical) and the prosperity of the tea farmers (social). The technical aspect covers the soil and tea leaf analysis of various nutrients contents in the soil and tea leaf. Originally, the technical aspect of the study was not planned but later during the consultation with the advisor it was taken into consideration which added value to the research study. The sample were collected from different locations and analyzed on the field itself. The other part of the study i.e. the social aspect was done through questionnaire survey and focus group discussion. the tea farming provided them not only a new opportunity but also earned an identity in the region. This initiative was undertaken as a piloting measure. Now that the tea is in production with processing unit established locally, more serious consideration has to be given for better yield and economic prosperity. This research finding will help the community to analyze their efforts and make correction measures in tea garden management and application of fertilizer. It is also expected to fill up the gaps of knowledge and information required to reduce economic stresses and enhance capacity of farmers to make the tea farming a sustainable and beneficial business. This study is performed with the view point that a strategy to maintain the existing residents as well as to attract people outside is necessary in order to revitalize the downtown of an area. Empirical analyses of this study are focused on the residents in downtowns of the two counties, Hongsung and Yesan which are concerned of becoming hollow. According to the results, the residents who want to continue living in the downtown are the old and the owner-occupants of detached housing units while those who hope to leave to Naepo, a neighboring new town are in their 30's or high income-earners. Thus, policies such as renovating detached housing for the old are required. In addition, policies to reduce outflow of the people who are in their 30's or high income-earners are also needed. Especially, since the resident who is highly probable to leave is estimated to spend 553 thousand Korean Won per year in the downtown, on-going outflow of residents would weaken the local market and threaten the local economy. Consequently, local governments need to set up directions of urban renovation policies by considering decline in population, change in demographic structure, appropriate allocation of limited budget, and sustainable urban development based on empirical research results.

Recently, eco-friendly energy has been employed in diverse fields of industry in order to reduce environmental pollution and secure a new growth engine. In particular, practical applications of photovoltaic energy, such as building integrated photovoltaic systems, have been implemented to the construction industry based on the extensive interest in photovoltaic power as an unlimited and sustainable energy. While the construction of a high-rise building requires large amounts of energy, methods of reducing energy consumption in the construction phase have rarely been studied. Based on this motivation, the research proposes a photovoltaic based formwork system (PVFS), and then performs a design and feasibility analysis for its application to the construction of a high-rise building. Using a case study, the research implements various analyses, including area, position, and total allowable weight required by PVFS, and evaluates the influences of PVFS on the construction processes, as well as its economic feasibility. The proposed PVFS can be adopted to a real-world project in the near future, depending on the advancement of technology and economic feasibility. The results of this research will contribute to establishing a construction environment that promotes a reduction of energy consumption by using eco-friendly energy in the construction phase.

Currently, our country has promoted sustainable growth in agriculture field by expanding the growth engine which is going to creat new value through agrifood industry & ICT convergence, the deployment of computerization in rural areas and the efficiency increase of agricultural administration system. Since the level of domestic agriculture-ICT convergence technology focusing on production areas is at early stage, it is necessary to deploy the successful models through the systematic development of technology and standardization including production, distribution and consumption phase. In addition, because the management and control systems of large glass greenhouse are mostly foreign products with no standardization and related small domestic companies, there is a limit to agri-food & ICT convergence activation led by the agri-food private sector. Also, it is vital to increase productivity & efficiency and improve quality throughout the entire agricultural process including production, distribution and consumption by the fusion of information technology, automatic control technology and unique ICT on existing agricultural technology, Therefore, in this paper we propose the agricultural-ICT convergence technology fields in which our country can lead technology and the standardization plans through analyzing the development, policy and standardization trends on agricultural-ICT convergence technology.

The parking guidance system can increase driver's convenience with detailed parking information service, but it continuously consumes electrical energy with large amount of sensors, displays and control modules. With the increase of the demand for green and sustainable building design, it becomes a meaningful issue for parking guidance system to reduce operating power. This paper presents the preliminary design and estimated results of a parking guidance system which is optimized to reduce the power consumption mainly on detectors and displays. The system design is based on commercial wireless parking detectors, wireless-loop-detector and earth-magnetic-detector. We have performed system architecture design, communication network design, parking information service scenario planning, battery life regulation and at last operating power estimation. With the 7 years of battery replace cycle, the estimated result for power consumption of designed system was 0.33W/slot, which is 13% of the traditional system's estimation result. The estimated annual maintain cost was similar to the traditional ultrasonic sensor based system's. The low power operable designed system can be expected to reduce CO2 emission.
The natural resources and material life-cycle include all human activities related to resources and material extraction, transportation, processing, use, recovery and disposal. Sustainable material management (SMM) is an integrated set of policy approaches targeted on economic agents throughout the material life-cycles and designed to result in economically efficient and environmentally effective material use. The material flows of industrial mineral, ores and fossil fuels have also long been a focal area for environmental policies because of the high environmental pressures associated with extraction, processing, consumption, and final disposal of these materials. OECD work on material flow is to improve the quantitative and analytical knowledge bases about natural resource and material flows within and among countries, so as to better understand the importance of material resources in member countries' economies. In several EU Member States, material flow accounts are part of official statistics. Material flow analysis (MFA) is a valuation method which assesses the efficiency of use of materials using information from material flow accounting. Material flow analysis helps to identify waste of natural resources and other materials in the economy which would otherwise go unnoticed in conventional economic monitoring systems. Resource use and resource efficiency has emerged as a major issue for long-term sustainability and environmental policy.
This study investigates the Granger-causality between economic growth and demand for electricity in Korea, using two quarterly time-series data (real GDP and electricity consumption) for 1970:Q1 through 2009:Q4. We apply Hsiao's sequential procedure to identify a vector autoregressive model to a decision of the optimal lags in the vector error-correction model because the two time-series data contain unit roots respectively and they are cointegrated. According to the empirical results in this study, we find that Hsiao's approach to the Granger-causality indicates a bidirectional causal relation between economic growth and demand for electricity in Korea. Following the Granger and Engle's approach, we also find the statistical evidence on (1) short-run bidirectional causality between real GDP and electricity consumption, (2) bidirectional strong causality between them, and (3) long-run unidirectional causality running from demand for electricity to economic growth. Our results show an inconsistency with the existing studies on Korea's case; however, the results appear to provide more meaningful policy implications for the Korean economy and its strategy of sustainable growth.
