In-situ collection experiments were performed to analyze inflowing sedilnents behavior as a basic study of topographical change in Nakdong River Estuary. Sediment rate and bed load flux ranged from 0.0004 to $0.472\;g/cm^2/day\;and\;0.0005\~1.7579\;g/cm^2/day$, respectively. The settling velocity of suspended particulate matter was estimated in tire range of $0.339\~1.010\;cm/sec$, The grain size analysis shows that surface sediments in backside of sandbar and bed load in front of dike have a similar grain size distribution. It is considered that the source of surface sediments in backside of sandbar were flowed in from Nakdong River. In order to verify the characteristics of inflowing sediments behavior, detailed surveys around Nakdong River Estuary need to be carried out, continuously.

Entrainment and deposition experiments were counducted in fresh water on four groups of sediments: three well-defined sediments of uniform composition and narrow-size distribution (1 to 9 um, 10 to 50 um, and 50 to 90 um), and a fourth group which was a mixture of these three sediments. In the entrainment experiments and at a particular stress, the steady-state suspended sediment concentration of the coarse group was the lowest while the concentrations of the fine and medium groups were higher that that of the coarse group but were similar to each other. Deposition experiments generally showed an exponential decrease of suspended sediment concentration with time with the decay time being a function of particle size and applied stress.
The effects of meteorological and reclaiming conditions on the reduction of suspended particles are investigated using a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model with the k-$\varepsilon$ turbulence closure scheme based on the renormalization group (RNG) theory. Twelve numerical experiments with different meteorological and reclaiming conditions are performed. For identifying the meteorological characteristics of the target area and providing the inflow conditions of the CFD model, the observed data from the automatic weather station (AWS) near the target area is analyzed. Complicated flow patterns such as flow distortion, horse-shoe vortex, recirculation zone, and channeling flow appeared due to the topography and buildings in the domain. Specially, the flow characteristics around the reclamation area are affected by the reclaiming height, reclaiming size and windbreak height. Reclaiming height affected the wind speed above the reclaiming area. Windbreak induces more complicated flow patterns around the reclaiming area as well as within the reclaiming area. In front of the windbreak, flow is distorted as it impinges on the windbreak. As a result, upward flow is generated there. Behind the windbreak, a secondary circulation, so called, a recirculation zone is generated and flow is reattached at the end of the recirculation zone (reattachment point). At the lower part of the recirculation zone, there is a reverse flow toward the windbreak. Flow passing to the reattachment point starts to be recovered. Total amounts of suspended particles are calculated using the frictional and threshold frictional velocities, erosion potential function, and the number of surface disturbance. In the case of a 10 m-reclaiming and northerly wind, the amount of suspended particles is largest. In the presence of 5 m windbreak, the friction velocity above the reclaiming area is largely reduced. As a result, the total amount of the suspended particles largely decreases, compared to the case with the same reclaiming and meteorological conditions except for the windbreak The calculated suspended particle amounts are used as the emission rate of the dispersion model simulations and the dispersion characteristics of the suspended particles are analyzed.

The characterization of PM$_{2.5}$ and PM$_{10}$ concentration is considered by analysis of ionic and heavy metal component to measured suspended particle at atmosphere in Hoseo university of Asan area. The variation of concentration is studied at the periods of asian dust occured. In asian dust, the PM$_{2.5}$ ratio is decreased from 79.7% to 40.1%, whereas the size-classified mean concentration of suspended particle is increased largely. It is found that the PM$_{2.5}$ ratio is decreased relatively because the coarse particle is increased largely according to the analysis of the mass concentration to divide the fine and coarse particle on 2.1 $\mu$m basis. It is observed that the Ca$^{2+}$ion is about 40 magnifications and Na$^+$, SO$_4{^{2-}}$ ion is increased in sequence in coarse particle, whereas the variation of ionic concentration is slightly increased in the fine particle. Furthermore, Mn, Fe, Zn, and Al are increased in sequence as the result of heavy metal component analysis, and Al is shown the most increased as mass concentration.
To describe the behavior of suspended-sediment particles in turbulent open-channel flows, the advection-diffusion equation or its simplified form has been used. Though this equation was derived upon several assumptions, only a few studies tried to evaluate the limit of the assumptions. The reason is that it is very difficult to measure turbulence in open-channel flows and to discriminate the velocities of water and sediment particles. The present study aims to measure the velocity profiles of water and sediment particles in open-channel flows by using PTV (Particle Tracking Velocimetry), a kind of PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry). The measured results showed that sediment particles moved slower than water tracers did in the outer region. In the present study, the amount of velocity-lag reached about $5\%$ of the mom flow velocity and the position of the maximum velocity-lag was $g/h\approx0.05\;(g^{+}=30\~50)$ The main cause of the velocity-lag of sediment particles seems that the sediment particles have larger density than water has. On the other hand, in the viscous sublayer, sediment particle has a larger velocity than water tracers. The reason of the inversion of velocity-lag may be due to the no-sleep condition of water at the solid boundaries.

In the present study, a laminar natural convection flow of $H_2O$-Cu nanofluid in a two dimensional enclosure has been investigated using a thermal lattice Boltzmann approach with the Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook (BGK) model. The effect of suspended nanoparticles on the fluid flow and heat transfer process have been studied for different controlling parameters such as particle volume fraction ($\Phi$), Rayleigh number (Ra). For this investigation the Rayleigh number changes from 104 to 106 and volume fraction varied from 0 to 10% with three different particle diameters (dp), say 10 nm, 20 nm and 40 nm. It is shown that increasing the Rayleigh number (Ra) and the volume fraction of nanofluid causes an increase of the effective heat transfer rate in terms of average Nusselt number (Nu) as well as the thermal conductivity of nanofluid. On the other hand, increasing the particle diameter causes the decrease of the heat transfer rate and thermal conductivity. The result of the analysis are compared with experimental and numerical data both for pure and nanofluids and it is seen a relatively good agreement.
The series of experiments under the various conditions were carried out to evaluate the feasibility of dissolved air flotation (DAF) as an alternative of conventional gravity sedimentation (CGS) and to investigate the decrease of the loadings following to biological wastewater treatment processes in livestock wastewater system. On the basis of the experiment result between CGS and DAF processes, for the other water quality criteria as well as suspended solid the removal efficiency of DAF process was about 20~25 % better than CGS process on average. In addition, the particle removal efficiency of DAF process became higher in proportion as the increase of air to solid (A/S) ratio and the general wastewater treatment efficiency of DAF process was enough to meet the requirement of loading decrease to following biological process even at low A/S ratio range. Though DAF process is widely known as an solid separation unit, there was not the notable relationship between particle separation efficiency and several pollutant removal efficiencies like $COD_{Cr}$ and nutrients (T-N, T-P). Assume that the $COD_{Cr}$ was removed as the fraction of particle separation in this experiment, the removal efficiency of T-N and T-P were sensitive to removal efficiency of $COD_{Cr}$, especially.

This study examined experimentally the characteristics of the flow pattern and particle suspension in an agitated vessel with a bottom baffle. A flow pattern of the particles was shown to increase the upward flow from the center of the agitated vessel bottom. The suspended particles from the experiment found that the particle suspension was promoted by the development of an Ekman boundary layer. The optimal conditions of the impeller, and the agitated vessel bottom baffle within the experimental range were as follows: Impeller, $n_p=6$, d/D=0.5, and b/d=0.3; and bottom baffle, $n_b=6$, $d_b/D=0.5$ and $b_w/D=0.05$.
Acid food indicators can be used as pH indicators for evaluating the quality and freshness of fermented products during the full course of distribution. Iron oxide particles are hardly suspended in water, but partially or completely agglomerated. The agglomeration degree of the iron oxide particles depends on the pH. The pH-dependent particle agglomeration or dispersion can be useful for monitoring the acidity of food. The zeta potential of iron oxide showed a decreasing trend as the pH increased from 2 to 8, while the point of zero charge (PZC) was observed around at pH 6.0-7.0. These results suggested that the size of the iron oxide particles was affected by the change in pH levels. As a result, the particle sizes of iron oxide were smaller at lower pH than at neutral pH. In addition, agglomeration of the iron oxide particles increased as the pH increased from 2 to 7. In the time-dependent aggregation test, the average particle size was 730.4 nm and 1,340.3 nm at pH 2 and 7, respectively. These properties of iron oxide particles can be used to develop an ideal acid indicator for food pH and to monitor food quality, besides a colorant or nutrient for nutrition enhancement and sensory promotion in food industry.

In this paper, we have numerically investigated two-dimensional dielectrophoretic (DEP) motions of a single particle suspended freely in a viscous fluid, interacting with a nearby nonconducting planar wall, under an externally applied uniform direct-current electric field. Particularly, we solve the Maxwell equation with a large sharp jump in the electric conductivity at the particle-fluid interface and then integrate the Maxwell stress tensor to compute the DEP force on the particle. Results show that, under an electric field parallel to the wall, one particle is always repelled to move far away from the wall and the motion depends strongly on the particle-wall spacing and the particle conductivity. The motion strength vanishes when the particle is as conductive as the fluid and increases as the conductivity deviates further from that of the fluid.
