Purpose: Microsuturing is a difficult job for beginners of microsurgery. It is because they are not familiar with microscopic environment and, it needs much time for them to get used to microanastomosis. Before the real microsurgery, sometimes a surgeon wants rehearsal. But, microsurgical exercise has been performed with surgical glove, silastic drain or rat femoral artery. Rat femoral artery is a very good training material. But, it needs animal laboratory, anesthesia and its keeping facilities. And the surgeon should appoint the time to exercise with the laboratory. Methods: We used chicken wing brachial artery for education material of microsuturing. The artery is 5 cm long and the diameter is about 1 mm. Monofilament 10-0 was used for suture material. Results: Six persons of Seoul National University medical school students and one resident attended in this program. Each of them performed arterial anastomosis ten times. They were satisfied with chicken wing brachial artery for anastomosis training under the magnification environment. Conclusion: We think that chicken wing brachial artery is a very cheap and an effective training material for the beginners of microsurgery.

A retrospective study of 498 patients (591 joints) who had diagnosed as having internal derangement of the temporomandibular joint by history, clinical examination, and arthrography were evaluated. 66 patients (70 joints) were diagnosed as having meniscus perforation between the joint compartments. In those patients with pain (11 joints : 15.7%), pain and crepitation (24 joints : 34.3%), pain, crepitation and LOM (31 joints : 44.3%), and painless crepitation with LOM (4 joints : 5.7%) complained clinically. All these patients who had perforation showed irregularity in outline of the contrast material, bone contour-contrast material gaps, flattening of cortical layer of articular eminence. On the 20 joints treated surgically, 17 joints were found to have meniscus perforation at the time of surgery which correlated with their pre-operative radiographic and clinical diagnosis. Three joints could not found perforation of meniscus. This study was designed to examine of the incidences of the meniscus perforation in the above patients and to assess the diagnostic accuracy of arthrography by comparing the results with the finding of direct examination at TMJ surgery.

3.2YSZ melted by the 'skull melting' method has good physical properties and does not undergo low-temperature degradation. Due to its excellent physical and mechanical properties, skull-melted 3.2YSZ has been developed as a dental implant material. In this study, a porous, resin-bonded diamond wheel was created and its grinding characteristics were compared with those of traditional nonporous wheels using skull-melted 3.2YSZ. The experimental results indicate that the porous, resin-bonded diamond wheel requires less grinding force and power. In addition, the porous, resin-bonded diamond wheel requires a greater degree of roughness.

Odontoma is the most common odontogenic benign tumor, and the treatment of choice is generally surgical removal. After excision, bone grafts may be necessary depending on the need for further treatment, or the size and location of the odontoma. Although the osteogenic capacity of a demineralized tooth was verified as early as 1967 by Urist and many other investigators, the cumbersome procedure, including a long demineralization time, may be less than comfortable for clinicians. A modified ultrasonic technology, with periodic negative pressure and temperature control, facilitated rapid and aseptic preparation of demineralized teeth for bone grafts. This approach reduces the demineralization time dramatically (${\leq}80$ minutes), so that the graft material can be prepared chairside on the same day as the extraction. The purpose of this article is to describe two cases of large compound odonotomas used as graft material prepared chairside for enucleation-induced bony defects. These two clinical cases showed favorable wound healing without complications, and good bony support for future dental implants or orthodontic treatment. Finally, this report will suggest the possibility of recycling the benign pathologic hard tissue as an alternative treatment option for conventional bone grafts in clinics.
The purposes of the present study were to compare the effects of viscoelastic materials available in phacoemulsification in dogs and to evaluate $ARTZ^{\circledR}$ as their substitute. Six eyes from the healthy adult dogs were used in each group with different viscoelastic materials, $Healon$^{\circledR}, Viscoat^{\circledR}$ and $Occucoat^{\circledR} and ARTZ^{\circledR}$. The phacoemulsification was carried out with surgical micmscope(Leica M65l, Germany) and pbacoemulsiscation gystemGfidek 6000, Japan). $ARTZ^{\circledR}$ had lower pseudoplasocity than other viscoelastics. There was not significant difference in phacotime, rate of posterior capsule rupture, incidence of the intraocular inflammation among the viscoelastic materials. The corneal thickness in all groups was significantly increased in a day after operation and decreased gradually. However $ARTZ$^{\circledR}$ had more time to recover the preoperative thickness than the others. CoBiunctival congestion in the group with $ARTZ^{\circledR}$ was more severe but. there were no postoperative posterior capsule opacity and visual loss. The present study indirated that $ARTZ^{\circledR}$ could be used as viscoelastic material in dogs with respect to the vision after surgery.

This paper investigates shape design processes of two implant systems for bone fracture treatment ; Bone plate and Interlocking nail system. These systems can directly fix fractured human bones by surgical operations. The bone plates consist of various shaped plates and implant screws for fixation of fractured human bones with various manual instruments allowing to handle them. The material corresponds to titanium alloy Ti6Al4V because it is harmless material for human body as well as significantly rigid. This system has to be suitably rigid as well as manually bended in orthopedic surgery operations. The Interlocking nail system is a kind of nail implanted inside fractured human bones. The shapes of these systems have to be suitably designed in order to endure various loads as well as avoid any damages. If various shaped prototypes would be fabricated and tested to design the optimal shapes, optimal shapes could be obtained but very long time and expensive costs must be required. In this paper finite element method was applied into these systems. Under various boundary conditions a series of structural analysis was conducted by using ANSYS. Finally important shape factors could be determined on the basis of the analysis results.
The aim of ear operation is to cease otorrhea and to restore hearing. The ceasation of otorrhea and the graft of tympanic membrane are reached to successful stage, and yet hearing restoration process still remains further to need a matter of development. Authors carried out 67 cases hearing restoration operation among 154 patients who had been undertaken mastoid-tympanoplasty during period of Feb. 1978 through March 1979. 54 cases have been followed for this study among 67 cases hearing restoration operation. The used material of operation are almostly incus and some cases with TORP. This paper is dealing with its surgical method and postoperative audimetric study.
Three dogs referred to Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, Seoul National University were diagnosed as intervertebral disc disease. Physical examination, neurologic examination, survey radiograph, and myelography were performed in patients. Case 1 showed narrowing intervertebral space and calcified intervertebral disc material in survey radiograph. Case 2 showed increased opacity in the intervertebral opacity in survey radiograph. All of 3 cases showed extradural pattern during myelography. In survey radiography, radiographic signs consistent with intervertebral disc herniations include narrowing of the disc space and the dorsal intervertebral articular process joint space, small intervertebral foramen, increase opacity in the intervertebral foramen and extruded, mineralized disc material within the vertebral canal. Myelography is useful for evaluating the spinal cord and the cauda equina. Indication for myelography includes confirming a spinal lesion seen or suspected on survey radiograph, defining the extent of a survey lesion, finding a lesion not observed on survey radiograph, and distinguishing between surgical and nonsurgical lesion. In presentcases, two of three cases show radiographic signs of IVDD with survey radiograph and all of three case show extradural pattern during myelography. It is observed that intervertebral disc disease is one of the most important indication for radiographic examination and myelography of the vertebral column of small animals.
Three sheep and 3 Korean native goats, raised in animal farm in Agricultural College of Chungnam National University, were esophageally fistulated for herbivore dietary composition studies. The results obtained were as follows. 1. Esophageal fistulation with improved method was relatively convenient in surgical operation and it was also suitable for the study of forage material in sheep and goats. 2. Excellent animal health was maintained over one year during which animals were utilized periodically in diet studies.
Background: Postoperative infection occurs when bone graft material is dislodged into the maxillary sinus cavity and most of the patients are often uncomfortable with the drainage and irrigation procedures to eradicate the infection. In this case report, we share a technique in treating patients with such condition. Material and methods: A 47-year-old patient was referred after sinus elevation using the crestal socket osteotome, bone graft, and implant insertion at a local clinic. Clinical and radiographic findings confirmed the diagnosis of right maxillary sinusitis. A surgical and medical treatment regimen was applied. Results: By using this technique for irrigation, we were able to achieve successful results, and the patient was satisfied due to less discomfort during the irrigation process. Conclusion: This method is a patient-friendly technique for sinus irrigation. It is not only limited to sinus grafted patients, but also maxillary sinusitis patients in any other type of odontogenic infection.
