The research is improvement of polishing process for surface quality and uniformity improvement of preform injection mold core. Surface quality of preform core have influence on ejecting and product quality after injection molding. Thus, the current being made by hand to automate the polishing process, the surface of the preform to improve the quality and uniformity improvement. First made a division by analyzing manual process a step-by-step. And draw a mechanism for converting mechanical movement. Automated polishing apparatus for preform core was developed, through which shortens production time and were able to secure the safety of the worker.

  • The Electro-thermal Explosion Coating (EEC) technique is a new surface treatment technology emerged in recent years. It uses an electrical discharge (with very high voltage from 5 to 30 kV or more) to produce a pulse current with large density inside the material to be deposited, the metal wire undergo the heating, melting, vaporization, ionization and explosion processes in a very short time (from tens ns to several hundreds ${\mu}s$), and the melted droplets shoot at the substrate with a very high velocity (3000 - 4500 m/s), so that the coating materials can be deposited on the surface of the substrate. Coatings with nano-size grains or ultra- fine grains can be formed because of rapid solidification (cooling rate up to $10^6-10^9\;k/s$). Surface of the substrate (about $1-5{\mu}m$ in depth) can be melted rapidly and coatings with very high bonding strength can be obtained.

  • Investigation of surface discharge characteristics of surface leakage on polluted EPDM insulator have been performed. This work was performed utilizing High Frequency Current Trans former to monitor surface discharge. It was found that there were significant variation in the surface discharge waveform frequency spectrum, depending both on the surface discharge magnitude and more importantly on the duration of surface discharge activity.

  • The feasibility of generating controller surface topographies in single-point conventional turning operations is investigated. First, a mathematical model of the surface generation process was developed. Second, in order to control the texture of the machined surface, a micro-positioning stage and the associated command generation software were designed and built. Experimental examples have shown that surface texture can be precisely controlled and is in good agrement with the theoretical predictions.

  • Porous dendrite structure AuCu alloy was formed using a hydrogen bubble template (HBT) technique by electroplating to improve the catalytic performance of gold, known as an excellent oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalyst in alkaline medium. The rich Au surface was maximized by selectively electrochemical etching Cu on the AuCu dendrite surface well formed in a leaf shape. The catalytic activity is mainly due to the synergistic effect of Au and Cu existing on the surface and inside of the particle. Au helps desorption of OH- and Cu contributes to the activation of O2 molecule. Therefore, the porous AuCu dendrite alloy catalyst showed markedly improved catalytic activity compared to the monometallic system. The porous structure AuCu formed by the hydrogen bubble template was able to control the size of the pores according to the formation time and applied current. In addition, the Au-rich surface area increased by selectively removing Cu through electrochemical etching was measured using an electrochemical calculation method (ECSA). The results of this study suggest that the alloying of porous AuCu dendrites and selective Cu dissolution treatment induces an internal alloying effect and a large specific surface area to improve catalyst performance.

  • Indium tin oxide (ITO) films were synthesized on polymer (PES, polyethersulfone) at room temperature by pulsed DC magnetron sputtering. By the control of introducing hydrogen to argon atmosphere, the resistivity of ITO films was obtained at $5.27\;{\times}\;10^{-4}\;{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ without substrate heating in comparison with $2.65\;{\times}\;10{-3}\;{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ under hydrogen free condition. ITO film synthesized at Ar condition was changed from amorphous to crystalline. These result from the enhancement of electron temperature in $Ar\;+\;H_2$ plasma, which induces the increase of ionization of target materials and argon. The dominant increase of ions such as In II and O II and neutral Sn I was monitored by optical emission spectroscopy (OES). Thermal energy required for the crystalline film formation is compensated by kinetic energy transfer through ion bombardments to substrate.

  • The surface of natural graphite was modified by the use of hydrogen peroxide and evaluated as an anode material for lithium ion capacitors (LICs). The surface treatment was carried out under various ultrasonic conditions of 200, 300, and 400W, which were applied to a mixture of natural graphite and hydrogen peroxide solution for 1 h. While the bulk structure was maintained, the hexagonal symmetry and physical properties of natural graphite, such as BET surface area, tap density, and particle size, were affected by the surface treatment. FT-IR and XPS measurements confirmed the signature of C=O on the surface of graphite samples after treatment. Both the pristine and surface-treated graphites showed a similar reversible capacity of $370mAhg^{-1}$, and the coulombic efficiency of surface-treated graphite decreased with higher ultrasonic energies (89.1%, 89.0%, and 88.0% for 200, 300, and 400 W) comparing with pristine graphite (89.4%). The capacity retention of LICs was greatly improved with the treated natural graphite. The graphite treated under the ultrasonic energy of 300 W and pristine natural graphite showed capacity retention of 77.5% and 42.9%, implying that the surface treatment was an effective method for the improvement of natural graphite as an anode material for LICs.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the possibility of application for water treatment using the zeocarbon. The zeocarbon was mixture of zeolite and activated carbon. In general, the application of commercial zeocarbon to water treatment is difficult because of weak strength in water and the high pH value of effluents after water treatment. Therefore, we have modified the surface of zeocarbon. For the surface modification, we used the acid treatment to make surface functional group. As a result of modification, was created functional group on zeocarbon surface and was formed mesopore in zeocarbon. The surface modified zeocarbon was applied to removal of nitrogen. In removal experiments of nitrogen, removal efficiency was very high. And, strength of zeocarbon after water treatment and pH of effluents were stabilized. This indicates that the surface modified zeocarbon was easy to recover and reuse. Consequently, our results were shown the possibility of application for water treatment using the surface modified zeocarbon.

  • The effects of an organic additive, naphthalene trisulfonic acid (NTSA), contained in the nickel sulfamate bath on the surface properties of the electrodeposited nickel layer were investigated through electrochemical technique, x-ray diffraction analysis, and microscopic observation. The addition of NTSA facilitated the oxidation process of electrodeposited nickel layer during anodic scan and also increased the hardness and internal stress of the nickel film as the applied current density became higher. It seems that NTSA modulated the deposit structure during electrodeposition and so induced higher distribution of (110) orientation with respect to (200). With the increase of the NTSA in the bath, nickel layer was formed in small grain size, which resulted in enhanced surface evenness and brightness.

  • Plastic injection molds used for rapid heating and cooling must minimize surface damage due to friction and maintain excellent thermal and low electrical conductivity. Accordingly, various surface treatments are being applied. The properties of Al2O3 coating and DLC coating were compared to find the optimal surface treatment method. Al2O3 coating was deposited by thermal spray method. DLC films were deposited by sputtering process in room temperature and high temperature PECVD (Plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition) process in 723 K temperature. For the evaluation of physical properties, the electrical and thermal conductivity including surface hardness, adhesion and wear resistance were analyzed. The electrical resistance of the all coated samples was showed insulation properties of 24 MΩ/sq or more. Especially, the friction coefficient of high temp. DLC coating was the lowest at 0.134.
