This investigation presents the experimental results of forced convection boiling heat transfer around a circular, electrically heated horizontal cylinder to subcooled water in cross flow. In these experiments, the following primary variables were included: heat flux, flow velocity, pressure and degree of subcooling at inlet. Local surface temperatures were measured at nine peripheral positions. Local surface temperature distributions are classified into four categories depending on the supplied heat flux. The effects of the boiling curve depending on the fluid velocity, degree of subcooling at inlet and pressure are presented.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate a critical heat flux(CHF) during forced convective subcooled and saturated boiling in free water jet system impinged on a rectangular heated surface. The surface is supplied with subcooled or saturated water through a rectangular jet. Experimental parameters studied are a width of heated surface, a height of supplementary water and a degree of subcooling. Incipient boiling point is observed in the temperature of 6${\~}8^{\circ}C$ of superheat of test specimen. CHF depends on jet velocity for various boiling-involved coolant system. CHF also is proportional to the nozzle exit velocity to the power of n, where n is 0.55 and 0.8 for subcooled and saturated boiling, respectively. CHF is enhanced with a higher jet velocity, higher degree of subcooling and smaller width of a heated surface.
In the present investigation, experiments on the melting of a phase change material were performed to research heat transfer phenomena generated by means of conduction and natural convection in the vertical tube at inward melting. The phase change material used in the experiments is 99 percent pure n-Docosane paraffin which is measured melting temperature of $42.5^{\circ}C$, latent heat of 37.5 cal/g, heat conductivity of $0.1505W/m^{\circ}C$. Experiments were performed both in the no-subcooling which is initiating it at melting temperature of phase change material, and in the subcooling which means to initiate it under melting temperature of phase change material, in order to compare and investigate the horizontal temperature history, vertical temperature history, ratio of melting and melted mass, figure of the melting front in the vertical tube. In the experimental results, heat transfer from tube wall to phase change material were due to conduction at early stage and due to natural convection with the passage of time, and then occurred melting downward from surface by volumetric expansion. Natural convection affects temperature distribution in the tube, ratio of melting and melted mass, figure of the melting front and then progress rapidly in case of nosubcooling compared to subcooling.

This paper presents the results of experiments involving external forced convection on boiling heat transfer from electrically heated horizontal tube to water in cross flow. In these experiments, all of the following primary variables were varied: heat flux, cross flow velocity, pressure and degree of subcooling. Local surface temperatures were measured at nine peripheral positions. Surface temperature distributions are classified into four groups as a function of heat flux. The characteristics of the boiling curve at different velocity, degree of subcooling and pressure are examined.

An experimental study of pool boiling behavior on micro-porous enhanced square heater surfaces immersed in PF5060 is performed. The effects of heater orientation, Subcooling and substrate distance on the pool boiling heat transfer performance for the double heaters were investigated under increasing heat-flux conditions. The boiling performance of micro-porous coated surface was better than that of plain surface. The double heaters with upper substrate of 0.2cm substrate interval have lower boiling performances compared with the results for the double heaters with that of 0.5cm and 1.0cm substrate interval and without the substrate. In comparison to upper heater and below heater with orientation, the upper heater has lower superheat temperature than the below heater due to the bubble sweeping.

A numerical study is made on the melting process of an unconstrained ice inside an isothermal ice-ball capsule. The unmelted ice core is continuously ascending on account of buoyancy forces. Such a buoyancy-assisted melting is commonly characterized by the existence of a thin liquid film above the ice core. The present study is motivated to present a full-equation-based analysis of the influences of the initial subcooling and the natural convection on the fluid flow associated with the buoyancy-assisted melting. In the light of the solution strategy, the present study is substantially distinguished from the existing works in that the complete set of governing equations in both the melted and unmelted regions are resolved in one domain. Numerical results are obtained by varying the wall temperature and initial temperature. The present results reported the transition of the flow pattern in a spherical capsule, as the wall temperature was increased over the density inversion point. In addition, time wise variation of the shapes for the liquid film and the lower ice surface, the time rate of change in the melt volume fraction and the melting distance at symmetric line is analyzed and is presented.
The critical heat flux of spray cooling were measured on the test surface of 10 mm diameter made by stainless steel. The experiments were carried out for the droplet-flow-rate of $0.00002{\sim}0.003m^3/(m^2s)$ and liquid subcooling temperature of $40{\sim}75^{\circ}C$. Experimental results showed that the critical heat flux of spray cooling increased remarkably with the increase of droplet-flow-rate. Meanwhile, the effect of liquid subcooling on critical heat flux of spray cooling appeared weakly under the present experimental conditions. In additions, correlation between the dimensionless critical heat flux and Weber number based on droplet-floe-rate was developed for experimental results.

An experimental study of heat transfer from hot flat surface to water sprays was conducted in high temperature region. Heat transfer measurements for hot flat surface were made by 4 sheathed C-A thermocouples. Droplets volume flux were also measured-independently at a position in spray field. The test conditions included variations in droplets volume flux, subcooling of cooling water of $1.565\times10^{-3} to 14.089\times10^{-3}m^3/m^2s and 80 to $20^{\circ}C$ respectively. The effects of inclination angle on heat transfer were investigated and changes in inclination angle of hot flat surface affected heat transfer coefficients of high temperature region.
The crystal growth rate of benzene from benzene-cyclohexane mixtures at a cylindrical layer crystallizer was determined from the slope of the line of correlation between operating time and layer thickness. The thickness of crystal layer was obtained from the amount of crystal deposited on the cooled wall surface of the crystallizer. The crystal growth rate was related with the degree of subcooling, which was defined as the difference between temperature of melt and that of growing crystal surface. The linear crystal growth rate for binary mixtures was proportional to the second power of the degree of subcooling. Equation model which was obtained from data through the rate of heat and mass transfer in the crystallizer and thus can tell crystal thickness and surface temperature of crystal layer according to the elapsed time was presented and successfully correlated to the experimental data. For the benzene-cyclohexane mixtures contains 5wt% and 10wt% of cyclohexane, the comparison of experimental data with calculation using model equation was done for crystal thickness corresponding to the various cooling temperatures.

In this study a parametric analysis for the rewetting temperature was made with 572 data obtained from the single tube experiment. The rewetting temperature was also evaluated by measuring the vaporization time of a liquid drop on a hot surface at the elevated pressures. The results showed that the rewetting temperature increased with flooding rate, inlet subcooling pressure and initial wall temperature, and decreased with increasing axial elevation. Based on the results obtained, the rewetting temperature correlation was suggested. From the comparison of correlated rewetting temperatures with measured values, it showed that the correlated values fell within .+-.5% error from the measured values.
