A stone cultural heritage often lacks design drawing and detailed geometric informations, thus it becomes more difficult to conservation and restoration. Even though there is active database of detail shape information and numerical measurement for stone monuments, most of the data is in hard-to-utilize two-dimensional images. The new technology developed to overcome this problem is three-dimensional image scanning system. The multi-storied stone pagoda of the Daewonsa temple was analysed with 3D scanning image data then survey map with orientation displacement was evaluated. The difference of each side became apparent with the members of the stone properties was measured, also horizontal and vertical displacement occurred. Horizontal displacement occurred in increasing severity from left to right and from body section to upper part. The 8th roof stones are leaning toward northwest direction due to lateral displacement. The evaluation and measurement of displacement could cause a little errors due to the characteristics uneven surface of stone monuments, computer program and mistakes from the researcher. In future, more precise measurement and stability studies should be done to suggest that accurate data for conservation and understanding of damage condition can be provided.
More than 70% of Korean Peninsula is consisted of mountains, so that lots of roads, rail-roads and tunnel, which play a pivotal role in the industry activity, are existed along the rock-slope and in the rock-mass. Thus,it is urgent that tegration of management system through the optimum survey and design of rock-slope excavation, proper stabilization method and database of rock-slope. However, conventional methods have shortcoming with the economy of survey time and human resources, and the overcome of difficulties of approach to the in-situ rock-slope. To overcome the limitation of conventional method, this paper proposed the development of remote measurement system using Terrestrial Laser Scanning System. The method using Terrestrial 3D Laser Scanning System, which can get 3D spatial information on the rock-slope and2)Dept. Geosystem Engineering, Kangwon National University, Korea tunnel, has an advantage of reduction of measurement time and the overcome of difficulties of approach to the in-situ rock-slope/dam/tunnel. In the case of rock-slope, through the analysis of 3D modeling of point-cloud by Terrestrial Laser Scanning System, orientation of discontinuity, roughness of joint surface, failure shape and volume were successively achieved. in the case of tunnel face, through reverse-engineering, monitoring of displacement was possible.
In order to provide some clues for differential diagnosis of trematode infections in fecal examination, the comparative morphology of eggs of 5 kinds of heterophyid flukes (Metagonimus yokogawai, Heterophyes heterophyes nocens, Heterophyopsis continua, Stellantchasmus falcatus and Pygidiopsis summa) and Clonorchis sinensis was studied. The eggs were obtained from distal portion of uteri of worms which were recovered from men after treatment. The characteristic shape and appearance of each kind of eggs were observed in detail under light microscope, and their length and width measured and compared one another. The results are as follows: 1. Eggs of C. sinensis are elongated ovoidal in shape with attenuated anterior end, 25.3~33. 2 (28. 3 in average) ${\mu}m$ long and 14.2~17.4(5.9) ${\mu}m$ wide with length/width ratio of 1.60~2.00 (1.78). They differ from all heterophyid eggs in that they have prominent wrinkling (muskmelon pattern) at their shell surface. 2. P. summa eggs are ovoid to pyriform in shape and characterized by the smallest size of all kinds examined, 19.8~22.9 (21.6) ${\mu}m$ long and 11.1~13.4 (12.1) ${\mu}m$ wide and the ratio 1.63~1.99 (1.78). 3. Eggs of S. falcatus are elongated ovoidal and most slender form, 25.3~29.2 (27.2) ${\mu}m$ long and 11.1~13.4 (12.5) ${\mu}m$ wide with the ratio of 2.00~2.57 (2.17). 4. Eggs of M. yokogawai are ellipsoid to elliptical in shape with round both ends, 26.9~31.6 (28.5) ${\mu}m$ long and 14.2~18.2 (16.8)${\mu}m$ wide with the ratio of 1.48~2.11 (1.70). 5. H. continua eggs are oval in shape, sometimes similar to M. yokogawai or H. h. nocen$ eggs, however, the relative breadth is broadest among all kinds, with maximum width at posterior half portion. They are 23.7~27.7 (25.0) ${\mu}m$ long, 15.8~18.9 (16.4) ${\mu}m$ wide with the ratio of 1. 33~1.75 (1.53). 6. Eggs of H. h. nocens are ellipsoid to ovoid in shape but sometimes more slender than M. yokogawai and have slightly pointed both ends. They are 23.7~29.2 (25.7) p.m long, 14.2~15.8 (15.4) ${\mu}m$ wide, and the ratio 1.50~2.06 (1.67). From the results, it is concluded that eggs, of 5 kinds of heterophyids and C. sinensis can be morphologically differentiated one another, however, careful observation and measurement on sufficient number of eggs are needed.

Over the last 30 years, the use of chairside computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) systems has evolved and has become increasingly popular in dentistry. Although CAD/CAM restorations have been used in the anterior dentition, satisfying the esthetic requirements of clinicians and patients, where the restorations are limited to the chairside, remains a challenge. To reproduce multi-shades of CAD/CAM restorations in the clinic, a preliminary experiment to express several shades on A2 lithium disilicate (LS2) blocks using a staining kit was performed. After measurement of the CIE L*a*b* value of specimens, it was compared with that of the commercial shade guide. This report presents two cases with individual customization of shade and surface characterization of the CAD/CAM restorations using predictable methods based on the preliminary experimental data. The anatomical shape of restoration was obtained from 'copy and paste technique' and 'mirror image acquisition technique'. All treatment procedures and fabrication of restorations performed in this report were executed in the clinic itself.
Recently the development of rotary instrument makes it possible that in root canal treatment operator saves much more time, maintans original curved canal shape and easily prepares continuous tapered root canal. The purpose of this experiment was to examine the smoothness of the internal surface of prepared root canal and the effectiveness of debridement in prepared root canal by SEM for the comparison of hand and Ni-Ti rotary instrument. 25 extracted human teeth were access opened and # 10 K-type file was introduced into canal until it was appeared at the apical foramen. The working length was established by subtracting 0.5mm from this measurement. Group 1. The root canal preparation was done to # 30 with working length and then step-back until # 45 with K-Flexofile (Maillefer, Swiss). Group 2. Root canal preparation was done by Naviflex Ni-Ti file (Brasseler, USA) as the same technique with group 1. Group 3. Canal was prepared by Profile .04 (Maillefer, Swiss) taper until #30. Group 4. With use of Quantec (Tycom, USA) root canal was prepared from file number 1 to 8. In group 1 and 2, the root canal irrigant was NaOCl and the other groups, NaOCl and RC-prep (Premine Dental Products, USA) was used. The prepared teeth were notched with high-speed bur as bucco-lingual direction and fractured with chisel and mallet, then examined with SEM. Group 1 showed smooth internal surface. There were scratches mainly to the axial direction. Group 2 showed similar characteristics to those in group 1. Group 3 showed more smoother and linear cutting surface with bised scratches. Group 4 has the almost same characteristics group 3 and there was no difference in the file design. Ni-Ti rotary root canal instrument prepare the dentinal wall more smoother than hand instrument. The effectiveness of debridement was not fully affected by file design. The isthmus area and accessory canals of the root canal system were not prepared in any group. According to the result, hand and rotary type instrumentation techniques were effective in removal of major amount of tissue from root canal but it was not complete. In the direction of cutting movement there was difference between them.

Reverse engineering has been widely used for the shape reconstruction of an object without CAD data and the measurement of clay or wood models for the development of new products. To generate a surface from measured points by a laser scanner, typical steps include the scanning of a clay or wood model and the generation of manufacturing data like STL file. A laser scanner has a great potential to get geometrical data of a model for its fast measuring speed and higher precision. The data from a laser scanner are composed of many line stripes of points. A new approach to remove point data with Delaunay triangulation is introduced to deal with problems during reverse engineering process. The selection of group of triangles to be triangulated based on the angle between triangles is used for robust and reliable implementation of Delaunay triangulation as preliminary steps. Developed software enables the user to specify the criteria for the selection of group of triangles either by the angle between triangles or the percentage of triangles reduced. The time and error for handling point data during modelling process can be reduced and thus RP models with accuracy will be helpful to automated process.
This stusy was to investigate the marginal fitness of porcelain-fused-to- metal crown after succesive firing cycle. Main variables were the degree of marginal curvature of labiocervical margin and the type of alloy. The exaggerated marginal curvature(EMC) was created by additional reduction at the faciocervical wall of the normallized marginal curvature (NMC)-typed ivorine tooth by using milling machine. The difference in the shape was the mid facial margin was placed 2mm apical to cemento- enamel junction in labial surface. Three types of alloy were high noble, noble, and base metal alloy. Test specimens were divided into 8 groups and each group had 8 specimens. Sixty four ceramometal crowns were made totally. Measurement stages were following degassing, opaquing. body porcelain firing, and glazing, and measuring sites were 4. (midmesial, midfacial, middistal, and midlingual). Digital, travelling measuring microscope (0.5 um precision, Olympus. Japan) was used under ${\times}250$ magnification. Within the limitation of this investigation, it was concluded as belows: 1. The pattern of marginal distortion was varied. Degassing stage was not a specific, causative stage that induce most of total marginal distortion during whole procedure fabricating a ceramometal crown. Body firing stage induced discrepancy relatively more than other firing stages. 2. The specimens that were Ni-based alloy and had EMC were distorted persistently following successive fabricating procedures. But marginal openings were decreased after glazing. 3. The release of metal grinding-induced stress was presumed as a cause that induce marginal distortion. 4. The amount of discrepancies of the labial and lingual margins were greater than that of the mesial and distal margin in the specimen that had EMC. 5. Silver-plated die was not enough to resist abrasion during repeated seating of metal copings on the die-holding device.
This study presents a new method called the SPMP (Semi-automatic profile measuring program) to efficiently measure body shape in elderly women. SPMP can automatically measure the angle of axis (19 items), surface (17 items), lengths (14 items), heights (16 items), widths (13 items), and depth (6 items). In total these 85 items are automatically measured very quickly, accurately, and easily after manually marking an initial 36 points. The utility of SPMP was evaluated using several tests. When SPMP measuring results were compared with manual methods (using a ruler and protractor) in thirteen elderly women using a paired t-test, there was no significant difference found between them. Furthermore, when measurements from SPMP were compared with actual measurement results in selected items from seven elderly women's measurements, smaller mean differences were found than those defined by ISO 20685, with the exception of the abdominal area which moves easily with breathing. Seven independent measurements of a single elderly woman were made by seven students using SPMP, and the values of coefficient of variation were less than 5% for all but 8 items. Finally, this study analyzed the correlation of all 85 item measurements, and found that the angle from the upper chest to the neck towards the front in the axis curved forward as much as the axis angle from the thigh to the waist (r=-0.876, $^{**}p$ < 0.01) bent backwards in elderly women. This detailed analysis helps to understand age-related changes in body posture, and will be useful in future studies.

A significant degradation in the aerodynamic performance of wind turbine system can occur by ice accretion on the surface of blades operated in cold climate. The ice accretion can result in performance loss, overloading due to delayed stall, excessive vibration associated with mass imbalance, ice shedding, instrumental measurement errors, and, in worst case, wind turbine system shutdown. In this study, the effects of ice accretions on the aerodynamic characteristics of wind turbine blade sections are investigated on the basis of modern CFD method. In addition, the computational results are used to predict the performance of three-dimensional wind turbine blade system through the blade element momentum method. It is shown that the thickness of ice accretion increases from the root to the tip and the effects of icing conditions such as relative wind velocity play significant role in the shape of ice accretion.

Steam generator tubes for nuclear power plants contain the local shape transitions on their inner or outer surface such as dent, bulge, over-expansion, eccentricity, deflection, and so on by the application of physical force during the tube manufacturing and steam generator assembling and by the sludge (that is, corrosion products) produced during the plant operation. The structural integrity of tubes will be degraded by generating the corrosive crack at that location. The profilometry using the traditional bobbin probes which are currently applied for measuring the profile change of tubes gives us basic information such as axial locations and average magnitudes of deformations. However, the three-dimensional quantitative evaluation on circumferential locations, distributional angle, and size of deformations will have to be conducted to understand the effects of residual stresses increased by local deformations on corrosive cracking of tubes. Steam generator tubes of Korean standard nuclear power plants expanded within their tube-sheets by the explosive expansion method and suffered from corrosive cracks in the early stage of power operation. Thus, local deformations of steam generator tubes at the top of tube-sheet were measured with an advanced rotating probe and a laser profiling system for the two cases where the tubes expanded by the explosive expansion method and hydraulic expansion. Also, the trends of eccentricity, deflection, and over-expansion of tubes were evaluated. The advanced eddy current profilometry was confirmed to provide accurate information of local deformations compared with laser profilometry.
