Recently, the population growth, industrial and agricultural development are rapidly undergoing in the Lower Rio Grande Valley (LRGV) in Texas. The Lower Rio Grande Valley (LRGV) composed of the 4 counties and three of them are interesting for Non-point and point source pollutant modeling: Starr, Cameron, and Hidalgo. Especially, the LRGV is an intensively irrigation region, and Texas A&M University Agriculture Program and the New Mexico State University College of Agriculture applied irrigation district program, projects in GIS and Hydrology based agricultural water management systems and assessment of prioritized protecting stream network, water quality and rehabilitation based on water saving potential in Rio Grande River. In the LRGV region, where point and non-point sources of pollution may be a big concern, because increasing fertilizers and pesticides use and population cause. This project objective seeks to determine the accumulation of non-point and point source and discuss the main impacts of agriculture and environmental concern with water quality related to pesticides, fertilizer, and nutrients within LRGV region. The GIS technique is widely used and developed for the assessment of non-point source pollution in LRGV region. This project shows the losses in $kg/km^2/yr$ of BOD (Biological Oxygen Demand), TN (total Nitrogen) and TP (total phosphorus) in the runoff from the surface of LRGV. Especially, farmers in Cameron County consume a lot of fertilizer and pesticide to improve crop yield net profit. Then, this region can be created as larger nonpoint source area for nutrients and the intensity of runoff by excess irrigation water. And many sediment and used irrigation water with including high nutrients can be discharged into Rio Grade River.
This study carried out a series of experiments involving impact tests (Drop Weight type & Charpy type with a standard specimen and newly designed I-type specimen), hardness tests, and fracture surface observations of French-made roll shell steel (F), abnormal roll shell steel (M), reheated roll shell steel (R), and S25C steel under heat treatment conditiAn experimental study was carried out to study the solid-liquid mixture upward hydraulic transport of solid particles in vertical and inclined annuli with a rotating inner cylinder. The lift forces acting on a fluidized particle play a central role in many important applications such as the removal of drill cuttings in horizontal drill holes, sand transport in fractured reservoirs, sediment transport, the cleaning of particles from surfaces, etc. In this study a clear acrylic pipe was used to observe the movement of solid particles. Annular velocities varied from 0.4 to 1.2 m/s. The effect of the annulus inclination and drill pipe rotation on the carrying capacity of a drilling fluid, particle rising velocity, and pressure drop in a slim hole annulus were measured for fully-developed flows of water and aqueous solutions of CMC (sodium carboxymethyl cellulose) and bentonite. The rotation of the inner cylinder was efficient at carrying particles to some degree. For a higher particle volume concentration, the hydraulic pressure loss of the mixture flow increased because of the friction between the wall and solids or between solids.

The mud flat in Korea is the geographical feature generated from the sediment of rivers of Korea and China and it is the important topography for pollution purification and fishing industry. The mud flat is difficult to access such that it requires the aerial survey for the high-resolution spatial information of the area. In this study we used drones instead of the conventional aerial and remote sensing approaches which have shortcomings of costs and revisit times. We carried out GPS-based control point survey, temporal image acquisition using drones, bundle adjustment, stereo image processing for DSM and ortho photo generation, followed by co-registration between the spatio-temporal information.
Despite the widespread use of GIS over the past ten years, it has been limited application for regional modeling of pollutant loadings such as sediment, nitrogen, and phosphorus(non-point source pollution), The goals of this study were to: select important processes and parameters of watersheds that contribute to non-point source pollution degradation, develop a ranking model to use the environmental geologic data and verify the model by comparing results with existing water quality data(Chung-ju Lake) for specific watersheds, The GIS database consisted of topography, geology, soils, precipitation, rainfall erosivity, land use, and watershed boundaries. The index(NPSP) for assessing non-point source pollution was comprised in the following three seperate components: soil loss index(SLI) assesses the potential soil erosion and sedim-ent delivery from field to stream; run-off potential ratio(R.P.R) predicts the potential production of surface runoff; chloropgyll-a index ranks the potential manure(animal or human) production within a watershed. The GIS model was a valuable tool to assess the impact of environmental pollation in watersheds.
In Janghwa-ri of Kanghwa Island morphological changes in four transects, 112 surface, and 2 core sediments were analyzed to understand the seasonal variation of the muddy tidal-flat environment. Sedimentary of facies can be classified into four facies; sand, muddy sand, sandy mud, and silt. During winter, the coarse-grained sediment facies expanded seaward. In the subsurface part of the core sediments, poorly sorted silty sediments dominate the area. According to the Pb-210 isotope analysis, accumulation rates of the tidal flat in Jangwha-ri appear to be $5{\sim}19mm/yr$. In the study area, the result is suggestive of a rapid change in depositional environments in recent years.

This study was attempted to investigate granular properties of acorn flours which were prepared by soaked nut and sediment. X-ray diffraction pattern of acorn flour was B type and was not affected by soaking treatment. The principal indices of the pattern were at diffraction angles ($2{\theta}$) of $14.5^{\circ},\;17.2^{\circ},\;19.7^{\circ},\;22.2^{\circ}\;and\;24.5^{\circ}$. The shape of acorn flour was elliptical and some rounded triangular by scanning electron microscope (SEM). The granule size of acorn flours varies from $4\;{\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ to approximately $20\;{\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. although morphology of the acorn flour was not affected, the non-starchy substances of surface was slightly changed by soaking.

The purpose of this study is to analyze various hydraulic characteristics using SMS (Surface Water Modeling System) RMA2 model. It is based on 2-D finite element method. River reaches (13.8km) from Gyeongan gauge station to the inlet of Paldang lake was selected. Finite element was made by RIMGIS Data, and the analysis of river-changes was operated by unsteady flow. The sediment concentration and bed change was simulated using SED2D model. This River's velocity was distributed that 0.05~3.85m/s and bed change was changed about 0.0003~0.0135m.
An abundance of internal waves is observed by SAR in the Yellow Sea during summer. They are small scaled internal waves and are not relatively studied well compared to the ones in the East/South China Sea. These internal waves should be considered in the study of physio-biological properties of the Yellow Sea because the mixing of the stratified surface water caused by internal waves during summer is important for ocean biological environment, and they also affect the sediment transport and acoustic signal transmission in the continental shelf region. To understand the characteristics of internal waves, it is important to get the spatio-temporal information of internal waves simultaneously by executing in-situ measurements as well as the SAR observation. This study tracks the internal waves observed by SAR in the time series of temperature profile data by analyzing simultaneously acquired in-situ measurement data and RADARSAT SAR image on 29 May 2002.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the reaction mechanism of soil and bacteria solution by various mixing ratios. For this purpose, in order to understand the reaction mechanisms of microorganisms and weathered granite soil, the tests were carried out under various mixing ratios additives such as soil, bacteria solution, $Ca(OH)_2$ and fixture. The test results from this study are summarized as follows. Firstly, the reaction between the bacteria solution and fixture produced a precipitate called vaterite, a type of silicate and calcium carbonate. Secondly, as a result of SEM analysis, the resulting precipitates generated from the test results using the specimens with various mixing ratios except SW condition and the irregular spherical microscopic shapes were formed in the size of $150{\mu}m$ to $20{\mu}m$. In addition, it can be seen that the bacteria solution and the fixture reacted between the granules to form an adsorbent material layer on the surface, and the microorganisms had a biological solidifying effect when the pores are combined into hard particles. Finally, The XRD analysis of the sediment resulting from the reaction between the microorganism and the deposit control agent confirmed the presence of a type of calcium carbonate ($CaCO_3$) vaterite, which affects soil strength formation, as well as silicate($SiO_2$).
We have used the microtremor method, with arrays of up to 96 m diameter, to carry out non-invasive estimation of shear-wave velocity profiles to a depth of 30 to 50 m in unconsolidated Quaternary Yarra Delta sediments. Two silt units (Coode Island Silt, and Fishermans Bend Silt) dominate our interpretation; the method yields shear velocities for these units with precision of $5\%$, and differentiates between the former, softer unit ($V_s$=130 m/sec) and the latter, firmer unit ($V_s$=235 m/sec). Below these silts, the method resolves a firm unit correlating with known gravels ($V_s$ 500 to 650 m/sec). Using surface traverses with the single-station H/V spectral ratio method, we show that the variation in thickness of the softer silt can be mapped rapidly but only qualitatively. The complexity of the geological section requires that array methods be used when quantitative shear-wave velocity profiles are desired.
