THIN FILM SENSORS FOR AUTOMOBILE

  • A great amount of effort has been devoted to the constant improvement of such basic performance as dirvability, safety and enviromental protection. As a result, the total combination of various technologies has made it possible to produce safer and more comfortable automobiles. Among these technologies, plasma and thin film techniques are mainly cocerned with sensors, optics, electronics and surface modification. This paper first describes a concept of thin film processing in materials synthesis for sensors based on particle-surface interaction during deposition to provide a long life sensor applicable to sutomobiles. Some examples of parctical application of thin films to sensors are then given. These include(1) a thin films strain gauge for gravity sensors, (2) a giant magneto resistance film for speen sensors, and (3) a Magneto-impedance sensors fordetection of low magnetic field. Further progress of sophisticated thin film technology must be considered in detail to explore advanced thin film materials science and to ensure the field reliability of future sensor devices for automobile.

한국 주변 해역 표층해수중 삼중수소 농도 (Tritium Concentrations in Surface Seawater around Korean Peninsula)

  • 전해농축법을 이용하여 한국 주변 해역 해수중 저준위 삼중수소를 측정하였다. 동 서 남해안에서 채취된 표충해수중 삼중수소를 측정한 결과, 삼중수소 농도는 $0.12 BqL^{-1}$에서 $1.50 BqL^{-1}$ 범위내의 값을 나타내었으며 그 평균값은 $0.60{\pm}0.353qL^{-1}$였다. 해역별 평균 삼중수소 농도는 동해안에서 $0.54{\pm}0.30 BqL^{-1}$ 남해안에서 $0.48{\pm}0.35 BqL^{-1}$. 서해안에서 $0.77{\pm}0.32 BqL^{-1}$의 농도분포를 각각 나타내었으며, 해역별로 큰 차이를 나타내지 않았다. 또한, 시료채취지점이 매우 좁은 위도범위내에 한정되어 있어 위도에 따른 삼중수소 농도의 체계적인 변화는 관찰되지 않았다. 본 연구에서 얻어진 표층해수 중 삼중수소 농도 준위는 일본 근해에서 조사된 결과와 매우 유사하였으며, 태평양지역에서의 삼중수소 농도에 비해서는 약간 높은 값을 나타내었다.

천연해수 중 음극방식 응용 원리에 의해 제작한 Mg(OH)2 코팅막의 밀착성 및 내식성 (Adhesion and Corrosion Resistance of Mg(OH)2 Films Prepared by Application Principle of Cathodic Protection in Natural Seawater)

  • Cathodic current on a metal tends to increase the $OH^-$ neighboring to the metal surface, especially during electro-deposition in seawater. The increased pH at metal/seawater interface results in precipitation of brucite crystal structure-$Mg(OH)_2$ as following formula; $Mg^{2+}+2OH^-{\rightarrow}Mg(OH)_2$, that is typical mechanism of the main calcareous deposits-compound in electro deposited coating films. In this study, the effects of anode and current density on deposition rate, composition structure and morphology of the deposited films were systematically investigated by scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and x-ray diffraction(XRD), respectively in order to overcome the problems such as deposition rate and a weak adhesion between deposit film and metal surface. The adhesion and corrosion resistance of the coating films were also evaluated by anodic polarization test. The electro-deposited film formed by using AZ31-Mg anode had the most appropriate physical properties. Weight gain of electro-deposit films increased with increasing cathodic current. Electro-deposit prepared at $5A/cm^2$ current density shows better adhesion than that formed at $8{\sim}10A/cm^2$.

  • Corrosion has been around for all of recorded history. Cathodic protection is the electrical solution to the corrosion problem. Corrosion is not exactly a new topic. It has been around since the beginning of time. Corrosion is simply the loss of material resulting from current leaving a metal, following through a medium, and returning to the metal at a different point. Corrosion takes many forms and has various names, such as oxidation, rust, chemical, and bacteria action. Regardless of the agent, all corrosion is the result of electrical current flow. Various methods are used to treat corrosion or to try to prevent ti. Some of these include chemical treatment. coatings, and electrical current. Especially, proper impressed current can stop corrosive action on the protected surface. In this article, we introduce the Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) Control and monitoring system developed by ourselves. The ICCP system is composed of a power supply, anode, reference electrode and controller. The main issue is to control the current flow on the desired value such that it is possible to force a metal to be more negative(cathodic) than the natural state. From the this process, we can achieve the cathodic protection. Of course, in the developed system, the necessary functions are possessed, such as remote control, monitoring of system fault detection etc. Some experimental results show the system performance and usefulness.

온실 환경 하에서 20년 경과된 농업용 강관의 부식 및 강도변화 (Corrosion and Strength Changes of Agricultural Steel Pipes Elapsed 20 Years under the Greenhouse Environment)

  • 파이프 골조 온실의 내구성 증대를 위하여 4가지의 부식방지 처리를 한 파이프를 실험온실 내부에 설치하여 20년경과 후 표면부식 상태와 강도 변화 실험을 실시하였다. 대기 중에 노출된 지상부위에서 무처리 파이프는 강도가 1.3%정도 줄었지만 다른 처리와의 차이는 거의 없는 것으로 나타났다. 지하 매설부위에서 중방식 처리한 파이프의 강도는 0.6%정도 줄어 거의 변화가 없었으나 무처리는 15.7% 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 방청 페인트나 아스팔트 도포는 4.2~4.4%정도 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 지상부위는 모든 시료에서 심한 부식상태를 보이지 않았다. 중방식 처리는 변화가 없었고, 방청페인트 처리도 녹은 발견되지 않고 약간의 변색만 있었다. 아스팔트 도포는 검게 변색되고 약간의 녹이 발견되었으며, 무처리는 표면의 20~30%정도가 녹슨 것으로 나타났다. 지하 매설부위 무처리 파이프의 경우에는 전체가 완전히 녹슬어 있었고, 아스팔트 도포한 파이프도 표면의 80~90%가 녹슬어 있었다. 방청페인트 처리는 20~30%정도 녹슬어 있었고, 중방식 처리는 거의 변화가 없었다. 중방식 처리는 지하 매설부위에서도 확실한 부식 방지 효과를 보이는 것을 확인할 수 있었고, 방청페인트 처리도 어느 정도 부식 방지 효과를 나타내고 있으므로 현장에 적용할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

시일과 코팅된 스틸면 사이의 구형 입자에 의한 접촉해석 (Contact Analysis Between Rubber Seal, a Spherical Particle and Coated Steel Surface)

  • Seals are very useful machine components in protection of leakage of lubricant or working fluid, and incoming of debris from outside. Various elastomer are widely used as sealing materials and the shaft surfaces are generally coated with high hardness material after heat treatment. It is generally known that the foreign debris and wear particles get stuck into sealing surface, the steel shaft surface can be damaged and worn by mainly abrasive wear. In this paper, using MARC, contact analysis are conducted to show the hard coated steel shaft surface can be fatigue failed by very small elastic particle intervened between seal and steel surface. Variations of contact and von-Mises stress distributions and contact half-widths with interference and coating thickness are presented. The maximum von-Mises stress occurs always in the coating layer or between coated layer/substrate interface. Therefore the coated sealing surface can be fatigued and then failed by very small particles. The results can be used in design of sealing surface and further studies are required.

Corrosion resistance of a carbon-steel surface modified by three-dimensional ion implantation and electric arc.

  • The hybrid method of three-dimensional ion implantation and electric arc is presented as a novel plasma-ion technique that allows by means of high voltage pulsed and electric arc discharges, the bombardment of non-metallic and metallic ions then implanting upon the surface of a solid surface, especially out of metallic nature. In this study AISI/SAE 4140 samples, a tool type steel broadly used in the industry due to its acceptable physicochemical properties, were metallographically prepared then surface modified by implanting titanium and simultaneously titanium and nitrogen particles during 5 min and 10 min. The effect of the ion implantation technique over the substrate surface was analysed by characterization and electrochemical techniques. From the results, the formation of Ti micro-droplets upon the surface after the implantation treatment were observed by micrographs obtained by scanning electron microscopy. The presence of doping particles on the implanted substrates were detected by elemental analysis. The linear polarization resistance, potentiodynamic polarization and total porosity analysis demonstrated that the samples whose implantation treatment with Ti ions for 10 min, offer a better protection against the corrosion compared with non-implanted substrates and implanted at the different conditions in this study.

6MV 전자 선형 가속기 광자선의 전자오염 (Contamination of the 6MV Linear Accelerator Photon Beam by Electrons)

  • 부산의대 부속 병원의 전자선형가속기 (Mevatron 67) 장치를 이용 하여 표면선량의 원인이 되는 광자선의 전자오염에 대한 연구를 하였다. 표면선량은 조사야의 크기에 따라 증가하는 경향을 나타내었다. 빔내에 트레이를 설치했을 때와 트레이를 제거했을때 표면선량의 변화와 전자오염정도를 관찰하였다. 전자오염을 감소시키기 위해서 구리 필터를 트레이 밑에 부착하여 그 효과를 분석하였다. 아울러 거리를 변화 시켜가며 선량의 변화를 관찰하여 최대의 피부보호효과를 유지할 수 있는 최적의 SSD와 TSD를 구하였다. 이런 모든 결과들은 방사선 치료 환자의 피부보호에 이용될 것이다.

The Effect of Coating Thickness on the Electrochemical Properties of a Li-La-Ti-O-coated Li[Ni0.3Co0.4Mn0.3]O2 Cathode

  • A $Li[Ni_{0.3}Co_{0.4}Mn_{0.3}]O_2$ cathode was modified by coating with Li-La-Ti-O, and the effect of the coating thickness on their electrochemical properties was studied. The thickness of the coating on the surface of $Li[Ni_{0.3}Co_{0.4}Mn_{0.3}]O_2$ was increased by increasing the wt % of the coating material. The rate capability of the Li-La-Ti-O-coated electrode was superior to that of the pristine sample. 1- and 2-wt %-coated samples showed considerable improvement in capacity retention at high C rates. However, the rate capability of a 5-wt %-coated sample decreased. All the coated samples showed a high discharge capacity and slightly improved cyclic performance under a high cut-off voltage (4.8 V) condition. Results of a storage test confirmed that the Li-La-Ti-O coating layer was effective in suppressing the dissolution of the transition metals as it offered protection from the attack of the acidic electrolyte. In particular, the 2- and 5-wt %-coated samples showed a better protection effect than the 1-wt %-coated sample.
