The investigation of microscopic precision in high speed endmilling is necessary for machinability evaluation, and the environmentally conscious machining technology have more important position in recent machining process. The microscopic precision of workpiece is influenced by machining environments variation as cutting fluid type and lubricant method. In this study, the cutting forces according to variation of cooling and lubrication are investigated by specially designed tool dynamometer. And the surface roughness, micro hardness and residual stress are evaluated according to machining environment. The characteristics of damaged layer in environmentally conscious machining and conventional machining using cutting fluid are compared experimentally.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and substitute possibility of a newly developed flowable composite resins as a luting cement for translucent fiber post. Material & Method: Two kinds of 12 mm translucent fiber Post (D.T. Light-Post (Bisco, USA) and FRC Postec (Ivoclar vivadent, Liechtenstein) was inserted into the teflon mold (7 mm diameter, 9 mm long) and Filtek-Flow (3M ESPE. USA), a light activated flowable composite resin, was polymerized for 60 seconds through the post. Also, the post was cut from the tip to 9 mm, 6 mm, 3 mm, and Filtek-Flow was light cured according to each length. For comparison, 60 seconds light-cured and 24 hours self-cured two dual cured resin cement (Duo-cement (Bisco, USA) and 2 Panavia-F (Kuraray, Japan)) samples were prepared as control group. Also cavities (1 mm in width, 1 mm in depth and 12 mm in length) were prepared using acrylic plate and aluminum bar, and flowable composite resin was flied and light cured by the diffused light from the fiber post's side wall. The degree of polymerization was measured according to the distance from curing light using Vickers' hardness test. Result: Within the limitation of this study, the following conclusions were drawn: 1. Vickers' hardness of light cured dual cured resin cement and flowable composite resin decreased from Panavia-F, Filtek-Flow and Duo-cement accordingly (p<0.05). In the dual curing resin cement, light curing performed group showed higher surface hardness value than self cured only group (p<0.05). 2. Surface hardness ratio (light cured through fiber post /directly light cured) of D.T. Light-Post using Filtek-Flow showed about 70% in the 6 mm deep and about 50% in the 12 mm deep FRC Postec showed only 40% of surface hardness ratio. 3. Surface hardness ratio by diffused light from the post's side wall showed about 50% at 6 mm and 9 mm deep, and about 40% at 12 mm deep in D.T. Light-Post. However, FRC Postec showed about 40% at 6 mm deep, and almost no polymerization in 9 mm and 12 mm deep.
The incorporation of N in a-C film is able to improve the friction coefficient and the adhesion to various substrates. In this study, a-C:N films were deposited on Si and steel substrates by closed-field unbalanced magnetron (CFUBM) sputtering system in $Ar/N_2$ plasma. The lubricant characteristics was investigated for a-C:N deposited with total working pressure from 4 to 7 mTorr. We obtained high hardness up to 24GPa, friction coefficient lower than 0.1 and the smooth surface of having the extremely low roughness (0.16 nm). The physcial properties of a-C:N thin film are related to the increase of cross-linked $sp^2$ bonding clusters in the film. However, the decrease of hardness, elastic modulus and the increase of surface roughness, friction coefficient with the increase of $N_2$ partial pressrue might be due to the effect of energetic ions as a result of the increase of ion bombardment with the increase of ion density in the plasma.
Quasi-nano-hardness and corrosion behaviors of neutron-irradiated reactor pressure vessel (RPV) steels such as 15Ch2MFA (Ni<0.4, 2.520 n/㎠ (En>1.0 MeV) for 32 days. Quasi-nano-hardnesses of the 15Ch2MFA and 15Cr2NHFA steels were 183.8 and 179.8 Hv, respectively. Their corrosion rates and corrosion potentials were 2.4×10-4Acm-2, -515.9 mVSHE and 6.8×10-4 Acm-2, -523.6 mVSHE in NACE standard TM0284-96 solution at room temperature, respectively. 15Ch2MFA steel showed better quasi-nano-hardness and corrosion resistance than 15Cr2NHFA steel in this test condition.
Recently, as the interest in improving energy efficiency has grown, the demand for vehicle and machine parts that are resistant in high temperature corrosive conditions and abrasive environments has increased. Pack chromizing treatment of sintered steels is a profitable method that satisfies both corrosion resistance and low friction properties. Since austenitic stainless steels have good corrosion resistance but low mechanical hardness, if they are replaced by sintered steel parts with pack chromizing treatment, all the desirable properties such as low price, easy molding, high hardness, low frictional coefficient, and high corrosion resistance, can be obtained. The higher corrosion resistance of the chromized parts over that of the austenitic stainless steels was acquired by coating chromium carbides and a thin chromium oxides layer on the surface. Moreover, the surface morphology of chromized parts, which were composed of chromium rich phases and hardened chromium carbides by diffusing and alloying, had a peak-and-valley shape so that the dimple effect by the wrinkled morphology and high hardness induced a low friction coefficient.
Titanium specially has high specific strength, excellent mechanical properties as fatigue strength and fracture ductility, good corrosion resistance, and therefore are broadly applied to the various fields. It is required the developmennt for the skills of wire-cut electrical discharge machining(WEDM), but the WEDMed surface was found to be worst due to the attached components of wire. Therefore precision maching method like lapping is necessary for getting high quilty surface. Roughness of lapped surface, surface hardness to each process depth and improved method of surface shape were stuided experimentally, by changing of grain size of diamond lap material and lapping pressure with constant speed in lapping process.

Diamond-like carbon (DLC) films were prepared on silicon substrates by the RF PECVD (Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition) method using methane $(CH_4)$ and hydrogen $(H_2)$ gas. We examined the effects of the post annealing temperature on the tribological properties of the DLC films using friction force microscopy (FFM). The films were annealed at various temperatures ranging from 300 to $900^{\circ}C$ in steps of $200^{\circ}C$ using RTA equipment in nitrogen ambient. The thickness of the film was observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and surface profile analysis. The surface morphology and surface energy of the films were examined using atomic force microscopy and contact angle measurement, respectively. The hardness of the DLC film was measured as a function of the post annealing temperature using a nano-indenter. The tribological characteristics were investigated by atomic force microscopy in FFM mode.
DLC (diamond liked carbon) coating of the tungsten carbide (WC) alloy core surface for molding a glass aspheric lens improves the quality of glass lens and the molding core and is characterized by high hardness, high elasticity, abrasion resistance and chemical stability. In this study, the effect of DLC coating of a thin film by means of the filtered AIP (arc ion plating) technique was examined on Ra and shape of the coated surface. Roughness before and after DLC coating was measured and the result showed that the roughness was improved after coating as compared to before coating. It was observed that DLC coating of the WC alloy core surface for molding had an effect on improving the roughness and shape of the core surface. It is considered that this will have an effect on improving abrasion resistance and the service life of the core surface.
In order to investigate the characteristics of penatration and the effect of surface treatment in A15052-H34, Al5082-Hl31 and titanium alloy laminates which were treated by anodizing and PVD(Physical Vapor Desposition) method, ballistic tests were conducted. Thickness of surface membrane in A15052-H34, Al5082-Hl31, were $25{\mu}m$ and that of titanium $0.9{\mu}m$ respectively. Surface hardness test was conducted using micro Vicker's hardness tester. Resistance to penetration is determined by the protection ballistic limit(V50), a statistical velocity with $50\%$ probability for complete penetration. Fracture behaviors and ballistic tolerance, described by penetration modes, are observed from the results of V50 test and Projectile Through Plate(PTP) test at velocities greater than protection ballistic limit, respectively. Present experimental results derived from this research help to optimize laminate impact behavior by varing the laminate thickness and surface treated materials.
A Thermal Barrier Coating (TBC) can play an important role in protecting parts from harmful environments at high temperatures such as oxidation, corrosion, and wear in order to improve the efficiency of aircraft engines by lowering the surface temperature of the turbine blade. The TBC can increase the life span of the product and improve the operating properties. Therefore, in this study the mechanical and thermal properties of the TBC such as oxidation, fatigue and shock at high temperatures were evaluated. A samples of a bond coat (CoNiCrAlY) produced by the High Velocity Oxygen Fuel (HVOF) and Low Pressure Plasma Spray (LPPS) method were used. The thickness of the HVOF coating layer was approximately $450\mu\textrm{m}$ to 500$\mu\textrm{m}$ and the hardness number of the coating layer was between 350Hv and 400Hv. The thickness of the LPPS coating was about 350$\mu\textrm{m}$ to 400$\mu\textrm{m}$ and the hardness number of the coating was about 370Hv to 420Hv. The X-ray diffraction analysis showed that CoNiCrAlY coating layer of the HVOF and LPPS was composed of the $\beta$and ${\gamma}$phase. After the high temperature oxidation test, the oxide scale with about l0$\mu\textrm{m}$ to 20$\mu\textrm{m}$ thickness appeared at the coating surface on the Al-depleted zone was observed under the oxide scale layer.
