A research on agricultural automation is a main issues to overcome the shortage of labor in Korea. A sweet persimmon farmers need much time and labors for classifying profitable sweet persimmon and ill profitable products. In this paper, we propose a mixed two-step synthetic neural network model for efficiently classifying sweet persimmon images. In this model, we suggested a surface direction classification model and a quality screening model which constructed from image data sets. Also we studied Class Activation Mapping(CAM) for visualization to easily inspect the quality of the classified products. The proposed mixed two-step model showed high performance compared to the simple binary classification model and the multi-class classification model, and it was possible to easily identify the weak parts of the classification in a dataset.

The structure systems with non-rigid member were classified by the composition type of line and surface members. As a result of the classification, there are 1-way cable structure, cable net and radial cable net structure in the line member system. And there are pneumatic structure and suspension membrane structure in surface member system. In addition, when the line and surface members are composed together, there is the hybrid membrane system which are divided into hanging type and supported type. In this paper, the Korean terms of structure systems with non-rigid member are recommended through this classification.

This research is aimed at evaluating the land surface characterization of KOMPSAT-3A middle infrared (MIR) data. Airborne Hyperspectral Scanner (AHS) data, which has MIR bands with high spatial resolution, were used to assess land surface temperature (LST) retrieval and classification accuracy of MIR bands. Firstly, LST values for daytime and nighttime, which were calculated with AHS thermal infrared (TIR) bands, were compared to digital number of AHS MIR bands. The determination coefficient of AHS band 68 (center wavelength $4.64{\mu}m$) was over 0.74, and was higher than other MIR bands. Secondly, The land cover maps were generated by unsupervised classification methods using the AHS MIR bands. Each class of land cover maps for daytime, such as water, trees, green grass, roads, roofs, was distinguished well. But some classes of land cover maps for nighttime, such as trees versus green grass, roads versus roofs, were not separated. The image classification using the difference images between daytime AHS MIR bands and nighttime AHS MIR bands were conducted to enhance the discrimination ability of land surface for AHS MIR imagery. The classification accuracy of the land cover map for zone 1 and zone 2 was 67.5%, 64.3%, respectively. It was improved by 10% compared to land cover map of daytime AHS MIR bands and night AHS MIR bands. Consequently, new algorithm based on land surface characteristics is required for temperature retrieval of high resolution MIR imagery, and the difference images between daytime and nighttime was considered to enhance the ability of land surface characterization using high resolution MIR data.

In this paper, 3-dimensional object segmentation and classification are proposed. Planar object is segmented surface using jump boundary and internal boundary. Curved object is segmented surfaces by maximin clustering method. Segmented surfaces are classified by depth trends and angle measurement of normal vectors. Classified surfaces are merged according to adjacent surfaces and compared to Guassian curvature and mean curvature method. The proposed methods have been successfully applied to the synthetic range images and shows good classification.
Karst water was defined as 'Water which fills the cavities of the earth continuously and is only subject to gravity and hydraulic pressure.' Karst springs are water outlets from karst-hydrologically active cavities in water-soluble rocks, whether they are on the surface or within the earth. Karst springs behave so differently that the general principles of classification for all springs can be applied to them with a few exceptions. Firstly, classification according to the outflow: perennial springs, periodic springs, rhythemically springs, episodically flowing spring. Secondly, classification according to geologic and tectonic conditions: bedding springs, fracture springs, overflow spring, ascending spring.
In this paper, the Gaussian Mixture Model(GMM) which is very robust modeling for pattern classification is proposed to classify wrist motions using surface electromyograms(EMG). EMG is widely used to recognize wrist motions such as up, down, left, right, rest, and is obtained from two electrodes placed on the flexor carpi ulnaris and extensor carpi ulnaris of 15 subjects under no strain condition during wrist motions. Also, EMG-based feature is derived from extracted EMG signals in time domain for fast processing. The estimated features based in difference absolute mean value(DAMV) are used for motion classification through GMM. The performance of our approach is evaluated by recognition rates and it is found that the proposed GMM-based method yields better results than conventional schemes including k-Nearest Neighbor(k-NN), Quadratic Discriminant Analysis(QDA) and Linear Discriminant Analysis(LDA).
In this paper, we propose one unsupervised classification technique using the degree of polarization (DoP) and the co-polarized phase-difference (CPD) statistics, instead of the entropy and alpha. It is shown that the DoP is closely related to the entropy, and the CPD to the alpha. The DoP explains the feature how much the effect of multiple reflections is contained. Hence, the DoP could be used as an important factor for classifying classes. The CPD can also be computed from the measured Mueller matrix elements. For the smooth surface scattering, the CPD is about $0^{\circ}$, and for dihedral-type scattering, the CPD is about $180^{\circ}$. A DoP-CPD diagram with appropriate boundaries between six different classes is developed based on the SAR image. The classification results are compared with the existing Entropy-alpha diagram as well as the IPL-AirSAR polarimetric data. The technique may have capability to classify an SAR image into six major classes; a bare surface, a village, a crown-layer short vegetation canopy, a trunk-layer short vegetation canopy, a crown-layer forest, and a trunk-dominated forest. Based on the DoP and CPD analysis, a simple three-component decomposition technique was also proposed.
This paper suggests the method of the spherical signature description of 3D point clouds taken from the laser range scanner on the ground vehicle. Based on the spherical signature description of each point, the extractor of significant environmental features is learned by the Deep Belief Nets for the urban structure classification. Arbitrary point among the 3D point cloud can represents its signature in its sky surface by using several neighborhood points. The unit spherical surface centered on that point can be considered to accumulate the evidence of each angular tessellation. According to a kind of point area such as wall, ground, tree, car, and so on, the results of spherical signature description look so different each other. These data can be applied into the Deep Belief Nets, which is one of the Deep Neural Networks, for learning the environmental feature extractor. With this learned feature extractor, 3D points can be classified due to its urban structures well. Experimental results prove that the proposed method based on the spherical signature description and the Deep Belief Nets is suitable for the mobile robots in terms of the classification accuracy.
The objectives of this paper are to measure surface imperviousness using three different classification methods: per-pixel, sub-pixel, and object-oriented classification. They are tested on high-spatial resolution QuickBird data at 2.4 meters (four spectral bands and three principal component bands) as well as a medium-spatial resolution Landsat TM image at 30 meters. To measure impervious surfaces, we selected 30 sample sites with different land uses and residential densities across image representing the city of Phoenix, Arizona, USA. For per-pixel an unsupervised classification is first conducted to provide prior knowledge on the possible candidate spectral classes, and then a supervised classification is performed using the maximum-likelihood rule. For sub-pixel classification, a Linear Spectral Mixture Analysis (LSMA) is used to disentangle land cover information from mixed pixels. For object-oriented classification several different sets of scale parameters and expert decision rules are implemented, including a nearest neighbor classifier. The results from these three methods show that the object-oriented approach (accuracy of 91%) provides more accurate results than those achieved by per-pixel algorithm (accuracy of 67% and 83% using Landsat TM and QuickBird, respectively). It is also clear that sub-pixel algorithm gives more accurate results (accuracy of 87%) in case of intensive and dense urban areas using medium-resolution imagery.

In this paper we suggest a development of surface defect inspection algorithms for cold mill strip using tree structure. The defects which exist in a surface of cold mill strip have a scattering or singular distribution. This paper consists of preprocessing, feature extraction and defect classification. By preprocessing, the binarized defect image is achieved. In this procedure, Top-hit transform, adaptive thresholding, thinning and noise rejection are used. Especially, Top-hit transform using local min/max operation diminishes the effect of bad lighting. In feature extraction, geometric, moment, co-occurrence matrix, histogram-ratio features are calculated. The histogram-ratio feature is taken from the gray-level image. For the defect classification, we suggest a tree structure of which nodes are multilayer neural network clasifiers. The proposed algorithm reduced error rate comparing to one stage structure.
