  • In this paper, a new method of obtaining specular surface shape by using five degrees of freedom camera system is described. The normal vectors of the surface are extracted by achieving the coincident between the camera axis and the surface normal vector. This method uses a five degrees of freedom (5DOF) camera to fulfill this task. From the normal vector data, the shape of the surface is reconstructed. The result shows that the methodology improves the 3-D shape of object measurement with good accuracy.

  • In this study, the applicability of the surface image velocimeter using the far-infrared camera was examined in order to solve the application problem of the measurement in night time, which has been pointed out in previous studies as the limit of the surface image velocimeter. For this purpose, the accuracy evaluation of measurement of the far-infrared camera was conducted for two conditions. Accuracy was evaluated by calculating the relative error of the results of the measurements of surface image velocimeter using the normal video camera during the daytime that was already verified. As a result, the relative error of the surface velocimeter using the far infrared camera was 4.3% at maximum, the average error was about 1%, and the error of the fog condition was maximum 5.2% with an average of 2%. In conclusion, it is possible to measure with high accuracy when using far-infrared camera in a invisible environments where the water flow can not be visualized with a general camera.

  • LED lighting is sensitive because it made by semiconductor. So it has been researched about radiation of heat technologies for a long time. In addition, measurement and assessment a radiation of heat also conducted. It is necessary to get a date of accuracy temperature on the board after LED driven for measuring Junction temperature of the LED Lighting. For this research, we use 5 chip which is 4 W power on top of LED lighting board made by aluminum. Thermal camera effects to emissivity depending on material and property of the surface in LED board because it determines thermal energy which emitted from material surface. it is not only thermal camera has not a standard about emissivity. It has an error of temperature when emissivity was measured by thermal camera. we confirmed that emissivity and reflected temperature depending on color and quality of the surface throughout experiment.

  • By setting a refractor with a certain angle against the optical axis of the CCD camera lens, the image of a measuring point recorded on the image plane is displaced by the corresponding amounts related to the distance between the camera and the measuring point. When the refractor that keeps the angle against the optical axis is rotated physically at high speed during the exposure of the camera, the image of a measuring point draws an annular streak. Since the size of the annular streak is inversely proportional to the distance between the camera and the measuring point, the 3D position of the measuring point can be obtained by processing the streak. In this paper, for one of the applications of our system, the measurement of a moving surface is introduced. In order to measure the moving surface, multi laser spots are projected on the surface of object. Each position of ...

  • Surface profile is an important paramerer to evaluate accuracy of machined worpiece. It is necessary to acquire this data by in-process measurement. Recent researchers have introduced Machine Vision technique to achieve it. But it is difficult to apply it to industry field yet. In this study, in-process measuring system of surface profile is developed using CCD camera. The effect of illuminance according to incident angle is investigated and surface profile from surface tester and illuminance graph are compared experimentally.

  • Recently, the researches of aerial drones are actively executed in various areas, the researches of surface drones and underwater drones are also executed in marine areas. In case of surface drones, they essentially utilize acoustic information by the sonar and consequently have the local information in the obstacle avoidance as the sonar has the limitations due to the beam width and detection range. In order to overcome this, more global method that utilizes optical images by the camera is required. Related to this, the aerial drone with the camera is desirable as the obstacle detection of the surface drone with the camera is impossible in case of the existence of clutters. However, the dynamic-floating aerial drone is not desirable for the long-term operation as its power consumption is high. To solve this problem, a collaborative obstacle avoidance method based on the acoustic information by the sonar of the surface drone and the optical image by the camera of the static-floating aerial drone is proposed. To verify the performance of the proposed method, the collaborative obstacle avoidances of a MSD(Micro Surface Drone) with an OAS(Obstacle Avoidance Sonar) and a BMAD(Balloon-based Micro Aerial Drone) with a camera are executed. The test results show the possibility of real applications and the need for additional studies.

  • The studies to estimate the surface spectral reflectance of an object have received widespread attention using the multi-spectral camera system. However, the multi-spectral camera system requires the additional color filter according to increment of the channel and system complexity is increased by multiple capture. Thus, this paper proposes an algorithm to reduce the estimation error of surface spectral reflectance with the conventional 3-band RGB camera. In the proposed method, adaptive principal components for each pixel are calculated by renewing the population of surface reflectances and the adaptive principal components can reduce estimation error of surface spectral reflectance of current pixel. To evacuate performance of the proposed estimation method, 3-band principal component analysis, 5-band wiener estimation method, and the proposed method are compared in the estimation experiment with the Macbeth ColorChecker. As a result, the proposed method showed a lower mean square ems between the estimated and the measured spectra compared to the conventional 3-band principal component analysis method and represented a similar or advanced estimation performance compared to the 5-band wiener method.

  • This study aims to analyze stone's surface roughness measurement accuracy of a high resolution DCS 420 digital camera by digital close-range photogrammetric technique. For this purpose, the surface roughness measurement system was constructed by means of microsoft visual basic 6.0 in windows. As the analysis results of measurement accuracy of digital camera using this system, the roughness error of the normal distance between the best fitting reference surface obtained by least square method and sample points in the ideal plane or surface did not exceed $\pm$0.1 mm

  • This paper presents a 3D object recognition method for generation of 3D environmental map or obstacle recognition of mobile robots. An active light source projects a stripe pattern of light onto the object surface, while the camera observes the projected pattern from its offset point. The system consists of a laser unit and a camera on a pan/tilt device. The line segment in 2D camera image implies an object surface plane. The scaling, filtering, edge extraction, object extraction and line thinning are used for the enhancement of the light stripe image. We can get faithful depth informations of the object surface from the line segment interpretation. The performance of the proposed method has demonstrated in detail through the experiments for varies type objects. Experimental results show that the method has a good position accuracy, effectively eliminates optical noises in the image, greatly reduces memory requirement, and also greatly cut down the image processing time for the 3D object recognition compared to the conventional object recognition.

  • Recently, UV(ultra-violet rays) camera has attracted a great deal of interest from the view point of easy judgement in inspections and diagnoses of the safety of power equipment. Especilly, UV camera is applied the inspection of UV with corona discharge. One of the most important and difficult problems is the basic research of filter design, materials and corona discharge. In this paper, we will report on the UV generation, corona pulse count and the polarity effect of positive and negative DC surface discharge in air. Also, corona discharge characteristics are analyzed using prototype UV camera of Korea. UV generation and corona pulse count due to surface discharge in positive needle is higher than that of negative needle.
