This paper presents an on-line quality monitoring and control method to obtain a uniform weld quality in gas metal arc welding (GMAW) processes. The geometrical parameters of the weld pool such as the top bead width and the penetration depth plus half back width are utilized to assess the integrity of the weld quality. Since a good quality weld is characterized by a relatively high depth-to-width ratio in its dimensions, the second geometrical parameter is regulated to a desired one. The monitoring variables are the surface temperatures measured at various points on the top surface of the weldment which are strongly related to the formation of the weld pool The relationship between the measured temperatures and the weld pool size is implemented on the multilayer perceptrons which are powerful for realization of complex mapping characteristics through training by samples. For on-line quality monitoring and control, it is prerequisite to estimate the weld pool sizes in the region of transient states. For this purpose, the time history of the surface temperatures is used as the input to the neural estimator. The control purpose is to obtain a uniform weld quality. In this research, the weld pool size is directly regulated to a desired one. The proposed controller is composed of a neural pool size estimator, a neural feedforward controller and a conventional feedback controller. The pool size estimator predicts the weld pool size under growing. The feedforward controller compensates for the nonlinear characteristics of the welding process. A series of simulation studies shows that the proposed control method improves the overall system response in the presence of changes in torch travel speed during GMA welding and guarantees the uniform weld quality.
The influence of the subsequent-annealing(SA) temperature on the plasma electrolytic oxidation(PEO)-treated Mgbased alloy was investigated in terms of surface properties associated with hardness and corrosion. For this purpose, a series of the SA treatments were performed on the PEO-treated samples at four different temperatures, i.e., 100, 150, 200, and $250^{\circ}C$ for 10 hrs. When compared to the sample without SA, the samples annealed at temperatures higher than $200^{\circ}C$ showed a difference in surface morphology due to the volume expansion accompanied by the dehydration reaction where the part of $Mg(OH)_2$ changed into MgO, working as harder phase. From the results of nano-indentation tests, the applied loads of the samples were seen to increase with increasing SA temperatures. However, the electro-chemical and corrosion properties of the sample annealed at $150^{\circ}C$ were higher than those of the samples annealed at three temperatures.
Satellite observed brightness temperature simulation using a radiative transfer model (here after, RTM) is useful for various fields, for example sensor design and channel selection by using theoretically calculated radiance data, development of satellite data processing algorithm and algorithm parameter determination before launch. This study is focused on elaborating the simulation procedure, and analyzing of difference between observed and modelled clear sky brightness temperatures. For the CMDPS (COMS Meteorological Data Processing System) development, the simulated clear sky brightness temperatures are used to determine whether the corresponding pixels are cloud-contaminated in cloud mask algorithm as a reference data. Also it provides important information for calibrating satellite observed radiances. Meanwhile, simulated brightness temperatures of COMS channels plan to be used for assessing the CMDPS performance test. For these applications, the RTM requires fast calculation and high accuracy. The simulated clear sky brightness temperatures are compared with those of MTSAT-1R observation to assess the model performance and the quality of the observation. The results show that there is good agreement in the ocean mostly, while in the land disagreement is partially found due to surface characteristics such as land surface temperature, surface vegetation, terrain effect, and so on.
This study surveyed and compared the temperatures established in display stands and food surfaces for cold and frozen foods in large discount stores in Korea. The temperatures established in display stands for cold food ranged with $3.5{\pm}1.8^{\circ}C$ as mean, minimum and maximum were $0^{\circ}C$ and $7^{\circ}C$. However, the surface temperatures of cold food on sale ranged with $10.7{\pm}2.9^{\circ}C$ as a mean, minimum $4.6^{\circ}C$ and maximum $18.4^{\circ}C$. Totally, the surface temperature of cold food on sale was $7.2^{\circ}C$, as a mean, higher than established in display stands for cold food in large discount stores in Korea. 53% of the surveyed cold foods were more than $10^{\circ}C$ in surface temperature and only 47% was less than $10^{\circ}C$. The differences between temperatures were lowest in fruits, salads and vegetables, but highest in milk products. On the other hand, the temperatures established in display stands for frozen food showed a range with $-20.7{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ as a mean. However, the surface temperatures of frozen food on sale showed a range with $-15.4{\pm}5^{\circ}C$ as a mean, minimum $-28^{\circ}C$ and maximum $-4.6^{\circ}C$ (included defrosting). The surface temperatures of frozen food, frozen meats, frozen processed foods and ice creams were $-13.8^{\circ}C$, $-15.9^{\circ}C$, and $-16.8^{\circ}C$, respectively. Only 32.3% of surveyed frozen foods showed less than $-18^{\circ}C$ in surface temperature. In conclusion, the temperatures established on cold and frozen food display stands were less than those of cold and frozen food surfaces on sale. There was also much variation in food surface temperatures during cold and frozen food storage and sales. Therefore, a temperature management system technology use at the distribution level for cold and frozen foods will be developed.
This study was conducted to investigate the changes in daily surface temperature of red pepper leaf compared to air and soil surface temperature. The maximum, minimum and average daily temperatures of red pepper leaf were 27.80, 11.40 and $19.01^{\circ}C$, respectively, which were lower by 0.10, 7.60 and $3.86^{\circ}C$ than air temperature, respectively, and lower by 15.00, 0.0 and $4.38^{\circ}C$ than soil surface temperature, respectively. Mean deviations of the difference between measured and estimated temperature by the E&E Model (Eom & Eom, 2013) for the air and surface temperature of red pepper leaf and soil were 0.64, 1.82 and $4.77^{\circ}C$, respectively. The relationships between measured and estimated scaled factor of the air and surface temperature of red pepper leaf and soil were very close to the 1:1 line. Difference between air and surface temperature of red pepper leaf showed a linear decreasing function with the surface temperature of red pepper leaf. Difference between soil surface temperature and air and surface temperature of red pepper leaf linearly increased with the soil surface temperature.

The affect of surface temperatures of fruits on spectrum which measures actual sugar contents was observed. PLSR was applied to develop the sugar content evaluation system that was not affected by temperature. The reflected spectrum was used at the wavelengths of 654 and 1052nm with the separation distance of 2.5nm. To increase the conformance of a model using unknown samples, let the minimum value of PRESS be an optimum factor. 71 Shingo pears stored in a refrigerator were left in a room temperature for a while and these temperatures and reflected spectrums were measured. Reflected spectrums were measured at the wavelengths of 654 and 1052nm, 3 samples in one second. To measure these at different temperatures, the experiment was repeated hourly and four times. Starting temperatures of 2-3 were increased up to 17. The total number of measured spectrum was 284. To develop a sugar content evaluation system model using measured reflected spectrum, three groups of samples were considered. First group had 51 samples at 14 and second group had 141 samples with lower or higher temperatures than 14. Third group had 155 samples with well distributed temperatures. Other samples were used as validations to ensure the conformance. Measuring the sugar contents of samples with surface temperatures other than 14 were difficult with PLS model I, developed by using a sample temperature of 14. If the sugar contents were compensated using samples' temperatures, results of prediction would be close to the expected results and it would be one of the most important factors to develop this system. PLS models I and II could compensate the temperature but the precision would not come up to the standard. High precision was expected by using samples with wide ranges of temperatures and sugar contents. Both models showed the possibility of an improvement of a sugar content evaluation system disregarding the temperature. For practical use of a system, selecting samples should be done carefully to reduce the effect of the temperature.

This study analyzed the surface temperature characteristics of urban green spaces under high summer temperatures to clarify the functions of green spaces in reducing urban temperatures. We obtained accurate surface temperature data using highresolution unmanned aerial vehicle images of the survey site, which was an isolated green space in the city. We analyzed differences in the surface temperature by land cover type, vegetation type, species type, and the relationship between surface temperature and vegetation volume. Based on the results, among the land cover types, wetlands and forests had low temperatures and paving areas had very high temperatures. Regarding vegetation type, broad-leaved trees had lower temperatures than coniferous trees in forests. However, in planted areas, coniferous trees had lower temperatures than broad-leaved trees. The temperature of long grass was higher than that of short grass, which suggested that the volume of grass affected the temperature. Regarding forest species type, the temperature of broad-leaved Robinia pseudoacacia forest and mixed broad-leaved forest was lower than coniferous Pinus densiflora forest. There was a slight difference in temperature between R. pseudoacacia forest and mixed broad-leaved forest. The analysis of the relationship between vegetation volume and temperature by forest species type indicated a negative correlation, where the temperature decreased with increasing vegetation volume, similar to the results of previous studies. However, we found a weak positive correlation in R. pseudoacacia forest; therefore, an increase in volume may not reduce the surface temperature depending on the dominant species.

Fatigue tests by axial loading (R=0.1) were carried out to investigate fatigue crack growth properties of small surface cracks in mild steel at room temperature, 250.deg. C and 400.deg. C, by using flat specimens with a small artificial pit. All the data of the fatigue crack growth rate obtained in the present tests are determined as a function of the stress intensity factor range, so that the applicability of liner fracture mechanics to the fatigue crack growth of surface cracks at elevated temperatures is investigated and discussed in comparison with the data of type 304 stainless steel at room temperature and elevated temperature. The obtained results are as follows: 1) Relations of both surface fatigue crack length and its depth to cycle ratio fall within a narrow scatter band in spite of different stress levels. 2) The .DELTA. .sigma. .root. .pi. a-da/dN relation of surface fatigue crack growth at room temperature is independent of the stress level and can be plotted as a straight line at log-log diagram, but the relation at 400.deg. C depends partly on the stress level. 3) Relations of the fatigue crack growth into depth d(2b)/dN and is stress intensity factor range .DELTA. $K_{I}$, accounted for the aspect ratio variation, fall within a narrow scatter band for wide range of the applied stress levels. And .DELTA. $K_{I}$E-d(2b)/dN relations of mild steel at different stress level coincide relatively well with the data of type 304 stainless steel. 4) The value of aspect ratio obtained by a beach mark method and a temper coloring method approaches about 0.9 in common with crack growth and it is independent of stress level and temperatures. 5) The equi-crack length curve is parallel to S-N$_{f}$ curve at elevated temperatures.s.s.s.
Because of urban development and changed land cover types, It is very important to acquire pixel unit of land surface temperature(LST) information when the heat island effect(HIE) of regional area are investigated. The brightness temperature observed by satellite is very useful for assessing the pixel unit of LST distributions for the analysis of thermal environment problems of urban areas. Also, satellite land cover data are very useful to our understanding of surface conditions of study areas. In this study, brightness temperature information of Landsat TM thermal channel was analyzed and compared with land cover information of Jeon-ju city. The atmospheric correction of TM thermal channel carried out to explain for compared LST long term monitoring errors. However, simple estimation and evaluation methods to find a physical relationship between LST from satellite images and in-situ data are compared with reference channel emissivity.

In this paper, surface temperatures of ZnO arresters as a function of ambient temperatures and leakage currents were experimentally investigated. The variations of the leakage current was below 10 uA, which comes about $4.5\%$ of the normal leakage current. Temperature differences between the ambient and the surface of arresters were not shown until $150\%$ to the normal leakage current, and were remarkable over $200\%$. From the results, we deduced a couple of polynomials which enables the calculation of the leakage current by the measurement of surface temperature. Tests on used arresters have shown the same results as the experimental one. Also, we expect that an arrester diagnosis is possible by measuring the surface temperature of them after more studies on the effect of wind, moisture penetration, and arrester types.
