It is still hard to measure the strain distribution over entire surface of a medium or large-size stamped part even by using an automated strain measurement system. Several methods which enable to enlarge the measurement range without losing accuracy and precision are suggested in this study, The superposition of images having different high-lightened or damaged part each other results in an enhanced image. A new method for constructing the element connectivity from a line-thinned image makes it possible to identify up to 1,000 elements. And the geometry assembling algorithm is proved very efficient in which the whole area to be measured is divided into several parts ; the coordinate transformation between every two adjacent parts is obtained from the concept of the least square error ; and the 3-D shape or strain distribution over the whole surface is assembled,
An automated surface-strain measurement system, named ASIAS, was developed by using the image processing and stereo vision techniques in the previous studies by the corresponding author and his coworkers. This system has been upgraded mainly to improve the accuracy through image enhancement, sub-pixel measurement, surface smoothing, etc., since the first version was released. The present study has still more improved the convenience of users as well as the accuracy of measurement by processing high resolution images 8 mega pixels or more which can be easily obtained from a portable digital steal camera. It is proved that high resolution image processing greatly decreases the measurement error and gives strain data without considerable deterioration of accuracy even when the deformed grids to be measured and the master grids for camera calibration are captured together in the same image, making the whole process of strain measurement much simpler.
This paper presents a finger-shaped multisensor system which can measure the tyep and position of a target surface by contactl. The multi-sensor system consists of a sphere-shpaed optical tactile sensor located at the finger tip and a force/torque sensor located at the joint of a finger. The optial tactile sensor determines the type and position of the target surface using the shape and position of the CCD image of the touching area generated by a contact between the sensor and the taget surface. The force/torque sensor also determines the position and surface normal vector by applying the distributionof forces and torques t the contact point to the equations of finger shape. The measurements on the position and surface normal vector at a contact point obtined by two individual sensors are fused using a statistical method. The integrated sensor system has 0.8mm error in position measurement and 1.31$^{\circ}$ error in normal vector measurement. The developed sensor system has many applications, such as autonomous compliance control, automatic grasping and recognition, etc.
This study tried to analyze error range and resolution of drone images using a rotary wing by comparing them with field measurement results and to analyze stands patterns in actual vegetation map preparation by comparing drone images with aerial images provided by National Geographic Information Institute of Korea. A total of 11 ground control points (GCPs) were selected in the area, and coordinates of the points were identified. In the analysis of aerial images taken by a drone, error per pixel was analyzed to be 0.284 cm. Also, digital elevation model (DEM), digital surface model (DSM), and orthomosaic image were abstracted. When drone images were comparatively analyzed with coordinates of ground control points (GCPs), root mean square error (RMSE) was analyzed as 2.36, 1.37, and 5.15 m in the direction of X, Y, and Z. Because of this error, there were some differences in locations between images edited after field measurement and images edited without field measurement. Also, drone images taken in the stream and the forest and 51 and 25 cm resolution aerial images provided by the National Geographic Information Institute of Korea were compared to identify stands patterns. To have a standard to classify polygons according to each aerial image, image analysis software (eCognition) was used. As a result, it was analyzed that drone images made more precise polygons than 51 and 25 cm resolution images provided by the National Geographic Information Institute of Korea. Therefore, if we utilize drones appropriately according to characteristics of subject, we can have advantages in vegetation change survey and general monitoring survey as it can acquire detailed information and can take images continuously.
In this study, according to the reference setting based on the runoff video of 9:00 where the highest water level of 3.94 m has been recorded during the runoff of Cheon-mi Stream in Jeju Island by the attack of Typhoon no. 16 Sanba on September $17^{th}$, 2012, the error rate of long-distance and short-distance velocimetry and real-distance change rate by input error have been calculated and the input range value of reference point by stream has been suggested. In the reference setting process, if a long-distance reference point input error occurs, the real-distance change rate of 0.35 m in the x-axis direction and 1.35 m in y-axis direction is incurred by the subtle input error of 2~11 pixels, and if a short-distance reference point input error occurs, the real-distance change rate of 0.02 m in the x-axis direction and 0.81 m in y-axis direction is incurred by the subtle input error of 1~11 pixels. According to the long-distance reference point setting variable, the velocity error rate showed the range of fluctuation of at least 14.36% to at most 76.06%, and when calculating flux, it showed a great range of fluctuation of at least 20.48% to at most 78.81%.
This paper proposes a multiresolution surface parameter estimation method for range images. Based on robust estimation of surface parameters, it approximates a patch to a planar surface in the locally adaptive window. Selection of resolution is made pixelwise by comparing a locally computed homogeneity measure with th eglobal threshold determined by te distribution of the approximation error. The proposed multiresolution surface parameter estimation method is applied to range image reconstruction. Computer simulation results with noisy rnag eimages contaminated by additive gaussian noise and impulse noise show that the proposed multiresolution reconstruction method well preserves step and roof edges compared with the conventional methods. Also the segmentation method based on the estimated surface parameters is shown to be robust to noise.
The object color does not look same under the different light source. It depends on the surface spectral reflectance and the spectral distribution of light source. Therefore we should find the surface spectral reflectance of object color and the spectral distribution of light source for color reproduction. Using Wiener estimation, we can estimate the spectral reflectance from low dimensional images obtained with multi-band image acquisition system. The kind and the number of imaging filters have the effect on the estimation of the spectral reflectance. Therefore it is important that optimal filters are selected to minimize the error of the result. In this paper, we describe methods to select optimal filters with minimum error between measured and estimated surface spectral reflectance and to estimate surface spectral reflectance of Munsell color chart from six multi-band images by using Wiener estimation.
In this paper, an algorithm for recovering the 3-D shape from a single shaded image is proposed. In the proposed algorithm, by using the relation between the height and surface gradient (p, q), a set of linear equations is derived from the linearized reflectance function. Then the 3-D surface is recovered by employing the conjugate gradient technique. In order to improve the convergence speed of the solution, we also employ the hierarchical basis function and multiresolution images in the algorithm. A method for determining the regularization parameter, which is determined by trial and error in the conventional approach, is also introduced. In addition, the proposed algorithm attempts to recover the 3-D surface without requiring the boundary conditions, making it suitable for a real-time implementation. Simulation results for real image as well as synthetic image are provided to demonstrate the performance of the proposed algorithm.
This study presents method for self-calibration of the SEM(Scanning Electron Microscope) stereo image using the standard microprobe with same grid pattern and using parallel and central perspective projection equation. Result showed that parallel projection method is more suitable for standard microprobe. The maximum error of 3D coordinates acquired by this method did not exceed 5 $\mu\textrm{m}$, and DSM(Digital Surface Model) for three dimensional measurement of the rock sample was generated by the digital photogrammetry. This result can be used for quantification of micro scale change of shape and analysis of the micro morphology of rock due to weathering.
