DISTRIBUTION OF VIRUSES IN WATER ENVIRONMENT

  • We investigated the viral contamination of water environment including tap water in Korea. River water used for source water was analyzed about monthly between 1997 and 1999 over a period 26 months. A total of 22 tap water samples were collected in 10 sites in 2 urban areas between 1997 and 1998 over a 11 months. All samples were examined for infectious enteroviruses and adenoviruses by a cell culture technique followed by PCR amplification. To identify the recovered viruses from tap water, sequence analysis of PCR products was performed. Infectious viral particles were detected in river water all year round, ranging from 0.93 to 17.3 Most Probable Number of Infectious Unit (MPNIU) /100L. Tap water samples also contained infectious viral particles. The frequency of enteroviruses and adenoviruses in tap water were $50.0\%$ (11/22) and $36.7\%$ (8/22), respectively. Both enteroviruses and adenoviruses were detected in five tap water samples $(22.7\%)$. The level of viral contamination in tap water was quite high, ranging from 0.2 to 2.9 MPNIU/100L, far above the recommended virus level in drinking water set by the U.S. EPA. Poliovirus type 1 derived from vaccine was frequently detected and the remainder comprised coxsackievirus B type or echovirus type 6, which were causative agents of aseptic meningitis in Korea in 1997 and 1998, respectively. Several types of adenovirus were detected in tap water samples and some water samples were found to contain adenoviruses which were closely related to enteric adenovirus type 40 and 41. This stusy shows that surface water and tap water in Korea may be exposed to the risk of viral contamination, especially from recently recognized viruses and this constitutes a potential public health hazard.

인천 H항 표층 퇴적물의 오염도 평가 (Estimation of Pollution Degree of Surface Sediment from Incheon H Wharf)

  • 본 연구에서는 2014년 03월에 인천 H항의 5개 정점(S1~S5)에서 채취된 표층 퇴적물의 물리화학적 특성을 조사하고, COD, AVS, IL 및 중금속(Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb, Zn, Cr, Hg)을 분석하여 오염도를 평가하였다. 입도분석, 비표면적분석, XRD 및 XRF 분석을 통하여 채취된 퇴적물 시료 모두 거의 동일한 산화물과 광물로 구성되었음을 확인하였다. 국내기준으로 COD, AVS 및 IL 세 항목의 총점에 대한 오염도는 S2, S3, S5 지점은 2등급으로 S1, S4 지점은 3등급으로 평가되었다. 중금속 오염의 경우 Cd, Ni, Pb은 USEPA 기준으로 중간오염에 해당하였고, Cu, Zn 및 Cr은 심한오염으로 분류되었다. 농집지수를 이용한 오염도 평가결과 Cd가 Class 3으로 평가되었고, 농축계수를 이용한 평가결과 모든 지점에서 Cd, Pb, Zn의 경우 1보다 큰 것으로 나타났다. 또한 총농축계수는 S4지점이 3.1로 가장 높은 것으로 나타났다.

Level and Origin of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) in Sediments from Ulsan Bay, Korea

  • Surface sediments(0~5 cm) were sampled from 22 stations in Ulsan Bay, one of the most highly industrialized regions in Korea, in November 2000. The sediment samples were analyzed for their polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon(PAH) content using a gas chromatography coupled to a mass spectrometer detector(GC/MSD). The total PAH concentrations in the sediments varied from 14 to 7108 ng/g dry weight with a mean value of 1052 ng/g dry weight. The level of carcinogenic PAHs ranged from 6 to 2396 ng/g dry weight with a mean value of 433 ng/g dry weight. The highest PAH concentrations in the sediments from Ulsan Bay were found at Station U8, whereas the lowest levels were observed at Stations U2 and U 17. The PAH distribution exhibited a decreasing gradient from the inner basin to the outer bay. The predominant contributors to the aromatic ring groups of the 16 PAHs were four- and five-ring groups, such as fluoranthene, pyrene, benzo[a]anthracene, chrysene, benzor[b]fluoranthene, benzor[k]fluoranthene and benzo[a]pyrene, while two- and three-ring aromatics, like naphthalene, acenapthylene, acenaphthene, fluorene, phenanthrene and anthracene, only exhibited a low concentration. The molecular indices for phenanthrene/anthracene and fluoranthen/pyrene were used to Identify the origin of the PAH contamination in the sediments. The results indicated that the PAH contamination in Ulsan Bay was mostly Pyrolytic in origin with a Petrogenic input adjacent to Ulsan and Jangsuengpo harbor.

  • 본 연구에서는 낙동강수계의 안동댐 퇴적물에 대한 오염도 조사 및 평가를 수행하였다. 안동댐 상류 40 km까지 약 5 km 간격으로 호수의 중간, 좌, 우지점에서 성층기와 전도기로 구분하여 퇴적물 시료를 채취하였다. 일반 항목인 강열 감량, 총질소, 총인의 경우 오염도가 낮지만, 중금속의 경우 비소와 카드뮴의 오염도는 매우 높다. 지천 및 대조군에 비해 댐 내 퇴적물의 오염도가 높으며, 시료채취 시기별로는 성층기에 크롬, 구리, 납의 농도가 높고, 순환기에 아연의 농도가 높은 경향을 보인다. 상하류의 위치에 따른 농도 차이를 나타내는 중금속은 비소, 카드뮴, 망간, 아연이며 차이를 보이지 않는 항목은 크롬, 구리, 수은, 철, 납 등이다.

자외선을 이용한 Film Cassette의 소독 효과 (Disinfection Effect of Film Cassettes by Ultraviolet Irradiation)

  • 본 연구에서는 진단방사선과에서 사용하는 필름카세트에 자외선을 조사하여 소독효과를 알아보기 위해 필름카세트의 자외선 조사 전 후의 동정과 응고효소검사 (Coagulase test)와 선량을 측정하였다. 필름카세트에 자외선을 1분, 2분, 3분 간격으로 조사 후에 세균을 동정하여 자외선이 세균을 불활성화 하는데 자외선 조사시간은 2분 이상이 필요하다. 자외선 조사시의 선량을 30초 간격으로 측정하였다. 자외선 조사시의 30초에서 선량은 $1565 {\mu}W{\cdot}s/cm^2$ 이었다 자외선선량은 시간에 선량이 정비례하였다. 이를 통하여 병원감염의 예방과 병원감염관리의 활성화를 위한 기초자료를 마련하고, 병원감염을 보다 효과적으로 예방하기 위한 자외선 소독효과를 알고자하는데 목적이 있다.

수종의 방법으로 임프란트 표면 처치후 표면의 형태 및 성분 변화 분석에 관한 연구 (The XPS and SEM Evaluation of Various Technique for Cleansing and Decontamination of The Rough Surface Titanium Implants)

  • Osseointegrated titanium implants have become an integral therapy for the replacement of teeth lost. For dental implant materials, titanium, hydroxyapatite and alumina oxide have been used, which of them, titanium implants are in wide use today. Titanium is known for its high corrosion resistance and biocompatability, because of the high stability of oxide layer mainly consists of $TiO_2$. With the development of peri-implantitis, the implant surface is changed in surface topography and element composition. None of the treatments for cleaning and detoxification of implant surface is efficient to remove surface contamination from contaminated titanium implants to such extent that the original surface elemental composition. In this sights, the purpose of this study was to evaluate rough surface titanium implants by means of scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) with respect to surface appearance and surface elemental composition. Moreover, it was also the aim to get the base for treatments of peri-implantitis. For the SEM and XPS study, rough surface titanium models were fabricated for control group. Six experimental groups were evaluated: 1) long-time room exposure, 2 ) air-powder abrasive cleaning for 1min, 3) burnishing in citric acid(pH1) for 1min, 4) burnishing in citric acid for 3min, 5) burnishing in tetracycline for 1min, 6) burnishing in tetracycline for 3min. All experimental treatments were followed by 1min of rinsing with distilled water. The results were as follows: 1. SEM observations of all experimental groups showed that any changes in surface topography were not detected when compared with control group. (750 X magnification) 2. XPS analysis showed that in all experimental groups, titanium and oxygen were increased and carbon was decreased, when compared with control group. 3. XPS analysis showed that the level of titanium, oxygen and carbon in the experimental group 3(citric acid treatment for 1min, followed by 1min of distilled water irrigation) reached to the level of control group. 4. XPS analysis showed that significant differences were not detected between the experimental group 1 and the other experimental groups except of experimental group 3. The Ti. level of experimental group 2, airpowder abrasive treatment for lmin followed by 1min of saline irrigation, was lower than the Ti. level of tetracycline treated groups, experimental group 5 and 6. From the result of this study, it may be concluded that the 1min of citric acid treatment followed by same time of rinsing with distilled water gave the best results from elemental points of view, and can be used safely to treat peri-implantitis.

납으로 오염된 카올리나이트의 양이온교환능력 및 계면동전위 특성 (Cation Exchange Capacity and Zeta Potential Characteristics of Kaolinite Contaminated with Lead)

  • A series of tests were performed to investigate the effects of pH and contamination level on cation exchange capacity and zeta potential in kaolinite loaded with lead. Test results show that cation exchange capacity of kaolinite is found to be in the range from 4 to 20meq/100g and it increased with increasing pH up to the converged number about 20meq/100g over pH 8. And then CEC has a tendency to reduce and converge to zero with increasing the concentration of Pb in the kaolinite surface. Moreover, zeta potential of kaolinite contaminated with lead is found to be in the range from -10 to 5mV, and zero point of charge is measured at about pH 3.5. Zeta potential of kaolinite contaminated with lead decreases with increasing pH values and decreasing Pb concentration of kaolinite.

경기도 하남시 토양의 중금속 함량 분포 조사 (Distribution of Heavy Metals in the Soils of Hanam City.)

  • 하남시 토양 전체를 대상으로 논, 밭, 산림, 하천유역 및 기타 지역(도심지, 나대지, 시 외각 마을)을 대표할 수 있는 지점을 선정하여 총 100점의 시료를 채취하고 As, Cd, Cu, Pb, Zn의 함량을 분석하여 우리나라 자연함량, Taiwan의 도시 토양 중 중금속 함량, 환경부가 정한 토양환경보전법상의 우려기준과 비교한 결과는 다음과 같다. 분석한 중금속 As, Cd, Cu, Pb, Zn의 평균농도는 각각 0.24, 0.14, 3.69, 3.03, 18.31ppm로 환경부가 제정한 토양보전법상의 우려기준보다 모두 낮은 값을 나타내었으며 우리나라의 자연준위와 비슷한 수준이었다. 그러나 Cd의 경우와 같이 일부 지점에서는 토양환경보전법상의 우려기준은 물론 대책기준을 초과하는 높은 값을 보여 정밀 조사가 필요할 것으로 생각된다.

녹차잎분말을 사용한 마루판의 특성 (Characteristics of Fancy Veneer Plywood Floor using Green Tea Leaves Powder)

  • This research was carried out to examine the properties of fancy cherry veneer overlaid on the PF resin bonded Meranti plywood floor, which 2.5% green tea leaf powder was applied in the UV varnishes and the adhesives for scavenging the volatile organic compounds. The results were as follows: 1. The various properties of the treated samples, such as density, moisture content, thickness swelling, bending strength(MOR), adhesion shear strength, surface abrasion, curling, cyclic delamination test with boiling water, boiling property, cold-resistance and heat resistance, acid resistance and alkali resistance, and anti-contamination property showed no significant difference between the properties of the control samples. 2.5% green tea leaf powder treated floor gave a little better results than the control for surface scratch test. 2. In case of QUV and weathering test, no difference between the treated sample and control was found. 3. The floor was discolored by adding 10% green tea leaf powder to UV coating, and the floor was also discolored to light green during by the soaking test. The color of floor was not changed up to 5% addition level.

일본 츠꾸이 선상지 지하수의 질산성 질소 오염에 대한 수문지구화학적 연구 (Hydrogeochemical Environmental Research in Nitrate Contamination in Alluvial Fan Area Groundwater in Tsukui, Central Japan)

  • 이 연구는 일본의 카나가와현 츠꾸이에 위치하고 있는 선상지에서 지하수 수질을 조절하는 요인들을 평가하기 위해 질산성 질소에 의해 오염된 지하수를 수문지구화학적으로 조사하였다. 2003년 월별 지하수의 수위는 강우에 의해 크게 증감하였지만, 지하수 내의 질산성 질소 농도는 약간의 변화만을 보여주었다. 뿐만아니라 년중 대부분 지하수 수질 기준의 최고 오염 수준 $10mgL^{-1}$을 초과하였다. 2003년 1년간 지하수의 재충전량은 1,730mm(지하수 수위의 일 증가의 년간 총합인 20,056mm와 일별 감소량의 년간 총합인 18,326mm의 차이)로 나타났다. 그러나 지하수 수위의 일별 증가량의 년간 총합(20,056mm)은 년간 강우량보다 약 10배 이상 높았다. 더욱이 일별 감소량의 년간 총합(18,326mm)은 많은 양의 지하수가 질산성 질소 오염과 함께 방출되었음을 보여주었다. 상당히 높은 질산성 질소를 보유한 강우가 있은 후, 선상지를 통해 많은 양의 지하수 유출입이 관찰되었다. 결과적으로, 산림지대를 포함한 이 선상지에서는 '질소 과잉' 또는 '질소 포화' 라고 하는 상태를 반영하고 있다. 많은 양의 지하수 방출은 지표수에서 질산성 질소의 오염과 같은 환경문제를 야기할 수 있으며, 본 연구를 통해 수문지구화학적 자료가 수질관리에 유용하길 기대한다.
