Preliminary Study on the Measurement of the Electrostatic Charging State of PM2.5 Collected on Filter Media

  • This study focused on the measurement of the actual charging state of ambient aerosol particles, which is important for understanding the intricate process of adverse health effects caused by particulate matter (PM). The net electrostatic charging state of $PM_{2.5}$ collected on filter media was measured in this study. The Faraday cage method and surface potential measurements were used in this study. The results showed that the polarities of the net charging state measured using these two methods were in agreement for 42 out of 48 samples (87.5%), and 36 samples (75%) were negatively charged. The filters were not significantly charged by friction between the filters and air not containing PM. Charge addition to or leakage from the filters was not observed over a two-month storage period. Net charging state of $PM_{2.5}$ collected on the filters was concluded to be negative in most cases, based on data's support of the assumption that aerosol charging state is not altered by the process of PM collection using filter.

Properties of charging and image changed by class of coating, method of coating and environment. This study developed about coating material and coating method to make print image of good quality.

  • In order to estimate spatial charging process in the corona charging which has been used to make polymer electret, the electrical properties of polypropylene film were obtained from Thermally Stimulated Current(TSC) measurements after corona charging between knife electrode and cylinder electrode with the voltages of -5, -6, -7 and -8[kV], respectively. And then the electrostatic contour and the electric field vector were also simulated by using Finite Element Method(FEM). The edge effect around edge of knife electrode affected the electrostatic contour on surface of specimen and the electric field concentration inside specimen. The uneven charging state in the electret due to the mistake on design could be calculated and so the optimal design of corona charging device which is appropriate to various materials is come to be practicable.

  • The electrification phenomena of polymerized materials is governed by the competitive processes of the charge generation and the charge dissipation. In this paper, The charged particles were supplied on the naked upper surface of the polyethylene film from a point corona discharge with a screen electrode which controls the potential difference across the film. The charging current with the corona charging was found to be larger than that obtained with the electric charging on the MIM structure and the discharge current was found to flow in the same direction as that of the charging current. these results can suggest that the charge injection occurs from the interface between the polethylene surface and the accumulated charge layer, the injected charge are trapped and the space charge is established.

Charging and Discharging Characteristics of Electric Double Layer Capacitors used for a Storage Battery of Solar Energy

  • The charging/discharging characteristics of electric double layer capacitors (EDLCs) for an electric power storage device application were investigated. The specific area of the carbonaceous electrode surface by the BET method was in the range of $1800{\sim}2000\;m^2/g$. The charge distributions during charging and discharging were measured by means of a pulsed-electro-acoustic (PEA) method, and the voltage characteristics of EDLCs connected to solar cells were evaluated. The results showed that the distributions of positive and negative charges were spatially uneven, which was due to the mobility of the positive and negative charges in the carbonaceous electrode surface of the EDLCs. The charge accumulation region concentrated on central part of the carbonaceous electrode and the required times for charging and discharging were almost same.

  • In this thesis, the electrification phenomenon was studied by measurement of charging current and discharging current in polymers when the carriers generated by corona discharge were supplied to the surface of polymers. Corona charging current of PVC, polar and noncrystalline polymer, was larger than that of nonpolar and amorphous polymers. Corona charging current on the specimen of naked upper surface (CIM) was larger than charging current on the specimen of electrode made. Carrier injection differed from interfacial phase of polymer surFace. The transfer phenomenon vaned with chemical structure of polymer and then the polar effect of PVC was remarkable because of large electron affinity of Cl. In the characteristics of discharging current of PVC, the abnormal current was observed. It was supposed that this phenomena presented the trap of injected carriers in PVC and that static electricity phenomenon was generated by trap.

Effect of Surface Charge in Hydrophobicity of Insulating Material and Decay of Surface Voltage after Corona Charging

  • This paper presented the effects of accumulation of surface charges on hydrophobicity level and the surface states of silicone polymer used for outdoor insulator treated by ultraviolet irradiation and corona discharge through measuring surface voltage decay of a corona-charged specimen were investigated. The surface resistivity by the method of the surface potential decay was compared with the value by the three electrodes methods. From this study, it was found that the accumulation of surface charges above a critical surface voltage on silicone insulating materials could lead to the temporary loss of surface hydrophobicity. In addtion, uv stress lead to a longer decay time of surface charges. We could conclude that the effects of surface charges on hydrophocity level and the changes of surface state by various artificial treatments were understood through a trend of surface potential decay.

  • High strength steel sheets used for automobile outer-panels have been intensively studied for developing a lightweight automobile under a strong pressure of the requirements for enhancing the mileage and energy saving in production of automobile parts. It is known that high strength steels are susceptible to hydrogen embrittlement, The susceptibility to hydrogen embrittlement increases with increasing its strength. However, the effect of hydrogen on the fracture behavior of high strength steels, though investigated extensively, has not been fully understood. In this paper, hydrogen was charged with 590DP steels by electrochemical method and its content was measured by hydrogen determinator with the different charging conditions. It was shown that the SP energy and maximum load decreased with increasing charging time. The results of SEM-fractography investigation for the hydrogen contained samples showed that a small portion of dimples on cleavage-fractured surface were observed and the size of the dimples were decreased with increasing hydrogen charging time.

  • In this paper, the behavior of hydrogen embrittlement of 680MPa DP sheet steel according to hydrogen charging conditions in acid and alkali electrolytes atmosphere was investigated. At this time, 0.5 M $H_2SO_4$ and 0.5M NaOH was used for electrolytes atmosphere and the effect on embrittlemnet of 680MPa DP sheet steel according to current density and charging time was evaluated by the change of subsurface microhardness in DP specimens chared hydrogen. As a result of this experiment, the microhardness of the layer directly below the surface was increased more than the microhardness of the subsurface zone in both electrolytes cases, but the change of the subsurface microhardness in both electrolytes was more affected by the increase of charging time than the increase of current density. The microhardness of subsurface zone in 0.5 M $H_2SO_4$ acid electrolyte was increased more than the microhardness in 0.5M NaOH alkali electrolyte. It was supposed that acid atmosphere was more sensitive to hydrogen embrittlement than alkali atmosphere on electrolyte atmosphere of hydrogen charge.

다상조직강의 조직 분율에 따른 수소주입의 영향 (The Influence of Hydrogen Charging with the Volume Fraction of Phases in Dual Phase Steels)

  • A study on microstructure control of multi-phase steel have been implemented to higher strength with improved formability. However, it is well known that the high strength of steel are susceptible to hydrogen embrittlement. The mechanisms of hydrogen embrittlement is caused by complex interactions. In this paper, the test specimens were fabricated to 5 type of 590DP steels at different levels of volume faction. The hydrogen charging was conducted by electrochemical hydrogen-charge method with varying charging time. The relationship between hydrogen concentration and volume fraction of 590DP steel was established by SP test and SEM-fractography. It was shown that the hydrogen amounts charged in 590DP steels increased with increasing the volume faction of austenite. The maximum loads of the 590DP steels in SP test were sharply decreased with increasing hydrogen charging time. The results of SEM-fractography investigation showed typical brittle-fracture surfaces for hydrogen-charged 590DP steels.
