Mechanism of Piezoelectricity for Langasite Based on the Framework Crystal Structure

  • Piezoelectric langasite crystals have superior properties such as high temperature performance and high quality Q and can be applied in combustion pressure sensors and surface acoustic wave (SAW) filters. Crystal growth, crystal structure and properties of langasite group are reviewed, and the mechanism of piezoelectricity of langasite is presented based on the crystal structure and deformation under high pressure. Finally, for the discovery of new piezoelectric materials, this paper presents the role of the framework, and recommends the search of framework crystal structure, because the characteristic of the mechanism exists on the framework of the crystal structure.

Wireless RF Sensor Structure for Non-Contact Vital Sign Monitoring

  • This paper describes a compact and novel wireless vital sign sensor at 2.4 GHz that can detect heartbeat and respiration signals. The oscillator circuit incorporates a planar resonator, which functions as a series feedback element as well as a near-field radiator. The periodic movement of a human body during aerobic exercise could cause an input impedance variation of the radiator within near-field range. This variation results in a corresponding change in the oscillation frequency and this change has been utilized for the sensing of human vital signs. In addition, a surface acoustic wave (SAW) filter and power detector have been used to increase the system sensitivity and to transform the frequency variation into a voltage waveform. The experimental results show that the proposed sensor placed 20 mm away from a human body can detect the vital signs very accurately.

  • 환경오염 문제로 인하여 질소산화물의 규제가 크게 강화되었으며 규제에 대응을 위한 연구가 활발히 진행되면 배기가스 후처리 기술 중의 SCR시스템이 연구되고 있다. 이러한 시스템의 개발에 있어 엔진 거동에 대한 NOx 제거효율을 높이고 장비가격을 낮추기 위하여 정확한 농도 측정이 필요하며, 이러한 측정에 들어가는 감시물질을 이용한 가스센서 방식의 반도체 감지 재료를 이용한 방식, SAW(surface acoustic wave)소자를 이용한 구동 방식, Micro / Nano 공진자를 이용한 방식과 광학방식을 이용한 가스센서의 적외선 흡광 방식, 광음향 방식의 기술소개 및 시장동향에 대하여 간략히 기술한다.

The Growth of LiNbO3 Crystals by Czochralski Technique (Czochralski법에 의한 $LiNbO_3$ 단결정 성장)

  • In order to grow a 127.86$^{\circ}$rotated LiNbO3 single crystal with good characteristics of surface acoustic wave (SAW) up to 80 mm in diameter, the temperature gradient of furnace, the growth rate and the rotation rate of crystal were changed. We could grow a crystal which had few macro defects at the conditions of temperature gradient as 30~6$0^{\circ}C$/cm, growth rate as 5 mm/hr and rotation rate as 8 rpm. The experimental ranges of the growth conditions are as follows. Temperature gradient was varied from 20 to 20$0^{\circ}C$/cm, growth rate as 5~7 mm/hr and crystal rotation rate as 6~12rpm.

  • This paper has been studied an improvement of receive sensitivity for RF module of Industrial Scientific Medical(ISM) Band. In the paper, Also this paper handles receive sensitivity progress of RF module in ISM band. how to improve receive sensitivity adds to Surface Acoustic Wave(SAW) filter, Low Noise Filter(LNA), etc and insulates receiver and transmitter. And then the circuit is inspected by the effective range test of receiver and transmitter. And this Paper was designed that micro-controler controls the part of RF by software.

  • In this paper, the implementation of MAI(multiple access interference)-cancelled SSMA(spread spectrum multiple access) system using orthogonal carriers was presented. Employing the pseudo periodic spreading codes and orthogonal carriers frequency offset, proposed system have the features no MAI during a certain local time-duration. Spreading signals designed by pseudo periodic method and repetition, have zero correlation duration(ZCD) by orthogonal frequency shift method. The SSMA modem has been designed and implemented using surface-acoustic-wave(SAW) device as the matched filter of receiver. The effects of frequency offset on stability have been evaluated using computer simulation.

  • $LiTaO_3$ single crystal has been studied for surface acoustic wave(SAW) applications. There are two kinds of $LiTaO_3$ single crystals, stoichiometric $LiTaO_3$ (SLT) and congruent $LiTaO_3$ (CLT). These two crystals show quite different dielectrical properties, which might be related with defects in crystals. In this study, we observed the domain boundary of SLT and CLT with scanning nonlinear dielectric microscopy and discussed the stress distribution in $LiTaO_3$ single crystals.

  • Over the past few years, intelligent tire is developed very actively for more accurate measurement of real-time tire forces generated during vehicle driving situation. Information on the force of intelligent tire could be used very usefully to chassis control systems of a vehicle. Intelligent tire is based on deformation of tire's inner surface from the waveform of a SAW, or Surface Acoustic Wave. The tire vertical force is estimated by using variance analysis of sensor signals. The estimated tire vertical force is compared with the tire vertical force generated during vehicle driving situation in real-time environment. The scope of this paper is a correlation study between the measured sensor signals and the tire vertical force generated during vehicle driving situation.

  • Lithium Niobate (LN:LiNbO3) is a compound of niobium, lithium and oxygen. The characteristics of LN are piezoelectricity, ferroelectricity and photoelectricity, and which is widely used in surface acoustic wave (SAW). To manufacture LN device, the LN surface should be a smooth surface and defect-free because of optical property, but the LN material is processed difficult by traditional processes such as grinding and mechanical polishing (MP) because of its brittleness. To decrease defects, chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) was applied to the LN wafer. In this study, the suitable parameters scuh as pressure and relative velocity, were investigated for the LN CMP process. To improve roughness, the LN CMP was performed using the parameters that were the highest removal rate among process parameters. And, evaluation of optical property was performed by the optical reflectance and non-linear characteristic.

  • In this paper, we designed a phase-looking circuit that locks the 16.8 GHz VTDRO to a 700 MHz SAW oscillator using SPD as a phase detector Direct phase locking with loop filter alone causes the problem of lock time, so VTDRO is phase leered by loop filter with the aid of time varying square wave current generator. The current generator is related to the loop filter and needs the systematic toning. In this paper, a systematic design of the current generator and loop filter is presented. The fabricated PLDRO shows a stabilized frequency of 16.8 GHz, a output power 6.3 dBm, and a phase noise of -101 dBc/Hz at the 100 kHz offset.
