Excavation support systems are the temporary earth retaining structures that can prevent the lateral movement of soils. The systems are initially performed before other construction operations and have a great impact on the entire construction period. The temporary support system in Korea have been carried out generally along with installing supports, which are struts, tiebacks, and rakers. However, most of existing support systems in application relatively have limitations such as cost increase, construction configuration, and displacement occurred with support systems. Thus, a new retaining support system (referred to as the SSR, New Construction Technology No. 533) was developed to solve the aforementioned problems. This study introduces the design, construction, and maintenance of the SSR system under the different construction conditions. The behavior and characteristics of the SSR system were identified based on the case studies.
This research aimed to assess nursing homes for the elderly with geriatric diseases in Japan, and to prepare the knowledge basis to develop nursing home for the elderly with geriatric diseases in Korea. For this, researcher visited 5 facilities in Tokyo from October 3 to October 9 in 2002, collected data by observations, interviews, and visual materials by taking photographs. Visual materials were analyzed according to the environmental assessment matrix consisted of supportiveness, flexibility, efficiency in perception, accessibility, safety, amenity, and social Interaction that were assorted and were given a name by these researchers in the process of this research. Among the characteristics of environmental design of the analysis cases, 992 items picked out from 722 visual materials were used in the analysis. The data were analyzed using the frequency and percentage with SPSS 11 program. The analysis results were the fellowing. The characteristics of recent nursing home design in Japan tended to focus on supportiveness, amenity, and efficiency in perception but to leave much desired in flexibility and safety. In each space, space to support outdoor activities tended to focus on efficiency in perception, space to support living activities tended to focus on amenities, space to support treatment and living tended to focus on supportiveness, space to support administration and operation tended to focus on supportiveness, and space to support movement tended to focus on amenities.
The purpose of this study was to the kinetic variables effects from the use of arch support inserts on low-arched people. We selected 10 people for the research and separated them into 2 groups, 5 people for the normal arched group and 5 people for the low arched group. Each group wear shoes which have a 3 step convertible arch support (level 0, level 2, level 5) and we measured their foot pressure and 3D motion analysis data. As a result, we found that the mean pressure at the heel of the low arched group was decreased when using the arch supports. The arch support induced the correct grounding area for the foot and dispersion of foot pressure. 3D motion analysis found that as the height of the arch support was increased, the movement of the Y-axis(inversion-eversion) was increased to relieve the shock to the heel. The arch support insert limited the range of motion(ROM) of the Z-axis(abduction-adduction) of the low arched person's ankle joint and prevented ankle injury caused by the excessive eversion when walking. Low arched people are seen to be easily tired due to the ineffective shock absorption of the knees and abnormal walking motion. In order to improve the problems, a 3 step convertible arch support(level 5) insert would improve the low-arched people's walking ability. In other words, the low arched people should be expected to walk as well as normal arched people when they wear shoes with the arch support insert.
Influenced by the alternating effects of dynamic and static pressure during the mining process of close range coal seams, the surrounding rock support of cross mining roadway is difficult and the deformation mechanism is complex, which has become an important problem affecting the safe and efficient production of coal mines. The paper takes the inclined longwall mining of the 10304 working face of Zhongheng coal mine as the engineering background, analyzes the key strata fracture mechanism of the large inclined right-angle trapezoidal mining field, explores the stress distribution characteristics and transmission law of the surrounding rock of the roadway affected by the mining of the inclined coal seam, and proposes a segmented and hierarchical support method for the cross mining roadway affected by the mining of the close range coal seam group. The research results indicate that based on the derived expressions for shear and tensile fracture of key strata, the ultimate pushing distance and ultimate suspended area of a right angle trapezoidal mining area can be calculated and obtained. Within the cross mining section, along the horizontal direction of the coal wall of the working face, the peak shear stress is located near the middle of the boundary. The cracks on the floor of the cross mining roadway gradually develop in an elliptical funnel shape from the shallow to the deep. The dual coupling support system composed of active anchor rod support and passive U-shaped steel shed support proposed in this article achieves effective control of the stability of cross mining roadways, which achieves effective control of floor by coupling active support and preventive passive support to improve the strength of the surrounding rock itself. The research results are of great significance for guiding the layout, support control, and safe mining of cross mining roadways, and to some extent, can further enrich and improve the relevant theories of roof movement and control.
Purpose: This study aimed to identify the effect of sling-applied plank exercise on the frequency, stiffness, and decrement of the rectus abdominis and longissimus muscles of the trunk according to the stability of the base of support. Methods: Thirty-three young adults volunteered to participate and were randomly assigned to one of three groups (SS, stable support; LES, lower extremity support; and ULES, upper and lower extremity support) according to the stability of the base of support. The muscular properties of the rectus abdominis and longissimus muscles during sling-assisted plank exercise according to the stability of the base of support. were measured by using Myoton PRO (Myoton AS, Tallinn, Estonia). Statistical analysis was performed MANOVA to determine the effect of sling-assisted plank exercise on the muscular properties of the rectus abdominis and longissimus muscles according to the stability of the base of support. Post hoc analysis was conducted using Bonferroni. The level of statistical significance was set at α = 0.05. Results: When comparing the muscular properties, the muscle frequency and stiffness of the left rectus abdominis of ULES were significantly decreased compared to that of SS (p < 0.05). In the measurement time, the muscle frequency and the muscle stiffness of the right rectus abdominis increased significantly after the intervention (p < 0.05). Conclusion: It was concluded that the more unstable the base of support (ULES), the higher the exercise strength, and the muscle frequency and stiffness decreased on the rectus abdominis at rest.
In this paper, we study a multicast transport technique for multimedia services of mobile hosts in wireless network environments. To reduce packet loss during hand-off, we propose a Pre-join scheme in overlapped area and a Buffering scheme in crossover routers. To support seamless service in real time multimedia application, these scheme use an optimal path routing which was provided in remote subscription scheme and a prediction scheme of host movements which was considered overlapped area. To evaluate the peformance of our scheme, we compare Bi-direction tunneling of mobile If, Remote subscription, and MoM by using NS-2. As a result, our scheme shows better performance in network overhead, packet loss and bandwidth's use than other schemes.

To support the movement of a mobile network consisting of several mobile nodes, the IETF NEMO working group proposed NEMO basic support protocol using bi-directional tunneling between the home agent and the mobile router. Since NEMO basic support protocol is based on bi-directional tunneling, all communications to and from mobile nodes are suffer from inefficient routing all the cases. To solve the routing inefficiency problem, several proposals are proposed. However, those proposals results in new problems, such as binding update storm and changes in existing protocol. Especially, binding update storm problem may cause the delay in binding update, this subsequently causes the difficulty for a real time service and the handoff delay on the movement of mobile network. In this paper, we propose a new binding update scheme which reduces binding update latency and the handoff delay through the distribution of the transmission time of binding update messages. The performance of the proposed scheme is also evaluated to demonstrate its efficiency. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can efficiently reduce the binding update latency.
The present study aims to develop animation module-based teaching-learning materials for a unit of middle school 3rd grade science, which contains the movement of the solar system, through the utilization of various forms of multimedia elements. The developed materials consist of 12 in total flash animation modules covering ‘movement of the Earth,’ ‘movement of the Moon,’ movement of the Planets,‘ etc. To analyze the student responses to the science classes to which the developed animation modules were to be applied, the researcher selected for subjects two third-grade classes that were made up of 60 students and later divided for an experimental group and a control group in a middle school located in Jeonju. The experimental group was treated with the animation module-based lessons developed in the present study while the control group was taught in the traditional teacher-centered ways. Tests for the science-related attitudes of the two groups were administered and the results showed that the mean score of the experimental group was significantly higher than the mean score of the control group (p<0.05) in the categories of ‘interest’ and ‘scientific attitude’. It was thus believed that the animation module-based teaching has a positive effect on the categories of ‘interest’ and ‘scientific attitude’. To assess the qualitative dimension of the developed materials, the researcher subjected them to the utilization of the 30 local science teachers and afterwards a survey was done with the 8 crucial items taken from the WBI evaluation test developed by Multimedia Education Support Center in 1998. The result was broadly positive in terms of lesson design and from a technological point of view.
Both investors and researchers are attentive to the prediction of stock price movement directions since the accurate prediction plays an important role in strategic decision making on stock trading. According to previous studies, taken together, one can see that different factors are considered depending on stock markets and prediction periods. This paper aims to analyze what data mining techniques show better performance with some representative index and stock price datasets in the Korea stock market. In particular, extreme gradient boosting technique, proving itself to be the fore-runner through recent open competitions, is applied to the prediction problem. Its performance has been analyzed in comparison with other data mining techniques reported good in the prediction of stock price movement directions such as random forests, support vector machines, and artificial neural networks. Through experiments with the index/price datasets of 12 years, it is identified that the gradient boosting technique is the best in predicting the movement directions after 1 to 4 days with a few partial equivalence to the other techniques.
The world's food production systems are becoming an area of great concern for both human and ecological health. Research has identified that one of the greatest threats to sustainability is conventional industrial agricultural systems and the high energy and material cost they require to function. The organic food movement is contributing as promising alternative to the current dominant model. Over the last 50 years it has developed into the most visible brand for a healthier and more environmentally sustainable food system. However, to achieve its full potential there are still a number of hurdles which must be overcome to make organic products a more viable and appealing option for consumers. This paper provides an overview of key research that has been conducted on why consumers are buying organic products, what they are buying and what is preventing them from purchasing more. It concludes that the key challenge is for the organic food movement to convince existing consumers of the superior 'value' of its products. In addition there are a number of methodological issues associated with analysing the market for organic products as well as issues of limited distribution, intermittent availability and high prices that are currently preventing increases in sales. Recognition and management of these barriers could contribute to more effective targeted research into consumer food purchasing motivations and subsequently the development of more sophisticated marketing strategies that assist in maintaining integrity with consumers and fending off challenges from conventional as well as other complementary food systems such as local food movement. And finally to achieve these market growth strategies the organic food movement will need to cope with its diverse constituency - ranging from global corporates through to local production and consumption - and provide attractive opportunities to individuals and business at all stages in supply chain whilst retaining credibility with government to ensure ongoing policy support.
