The Impact of Supervisory Communication Apprehension on Subordinates' Job Performance: An Empirical Study in Pakistan

  • The impact of supervisory communication apprehension (SCA) on subordinates' job performance was investigated in this study. We also examined the impact of task-related uncertainty in mediating the relationship between SCA and subordinate work performance, as well as the role of information-seeking behavior in moderating the relationship between task-related uncertainty and subordinate job performance. A sample of subordinates and their supervisors from public and private sector enterprises in Pakistan were used in the study. The concept of communication apprehension is not limited to a single organization or industry, and the conditions suggest that apprehensive supervisors are likely to exist in different organizations and industries in Pakistan, including banks, telecommunications, and development sector organizations. Company directors and leaders of human resources departments were contacted to reach out to possible respondents. SmartPLS software was used to evaluate the data using a structural equation modeling technique which is commonly used in explanatory studies (Atta et al., 2021). We found evidence to support ideas predicting the association between SCA and subordinate job performance, as well as the mediating role of task-related ambiguity in the relationship. Furthermore, the findings show that information-seeking activity has a moderating effect on the link between task-related ambiguity and subordinate job performance. This is one of the first studies to look at major mediating and moderating mechanisms in the link between SCA and subordinate job performance.

의료관광교육 서비스품질이 교육만족도 및 교육훈련전이에 미치는 영향: 조직특성 및 국가관계의 조절효과를 중심으로 (The Effect of Medical Tourism Education Service Quality on Education Satisfaction and Transfer of Education Training: Focusing on the Moderating Roles of Organizational Characteristics and National Relations)

  • The medical tourism industry, a convergence of medical services and tourism, has been getting more and more popularity as a new value-added industry in the 21st century. Accordingly, the number of professional workers within this industry has been increasing, and the role of educational institutions to cultivate well-equipped human resources has also become critical. However, compared to practically activated medical tourism-related education programs, studies investigating the effectiveness of these education programs are relatively rare. Therefore, this study attempts to examine the effect of five dimensions of medical tourism education service quality (i.e., tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy) on learners' education satisfaction and transfer of education training. In addition, the moderating roles of national relations as well as organizational characteristics (i.e., transfer climate and support of supervisors and colleagues) in the relationship between education satisfaction and transfer of education training are further verified. The results of the structural equation model (SEM) using 151 samples from respondents with experience in completing medical tourism education programs reveal that tangibles, reliability, and assurance are found to have a significant impact on education satisfaction, which in turn leads to a high level of transfer of education training. Moreover, it is found that national relations and support of supervisors and colleagues play a moderating role. This study would provide guidelines for improving the efficiency of educational institutions, creating outcomes for learners' affiliated firms (e.g., hospitals), and promoting medical tourism at the national level from the perspective of medical tourism education.

파이프 서포트의 지지핀 두께와 압축하중의 상관관계 분석 (Analysis of the Correlation between the Thickness of Support Pin of Pipe Support and the Compressive Load)

  • Generally, in construction sites, the pipe support installation workers often use support pins of 9~10 mm which are much smaller than the safety standard sizes for work convenience. Although the safety certification standard thickness of the support pins is 11 mm, and the supervisors are often indifferent to this. Hence, products with far lower performance than the pipe support safety certification value of 40,000 N, which is applied in the supporting post-structural review, are used. Accordingly, this acts as a factor causing collapse accidents in the process of pouring concrete at the construction site. Therefore, this study performed compression experiments on new and reused pipe supports to determine how the thickness of the support pins affects the structural compression performance of the pipe support by considering the thickness of the support pins as a critical variable among various factors affecting the pipe support performance. In the course of the study, the compression test of the pipe support (V2, V4) for the new products showed that only 14 (58.3%) of the total 24 samples satisfied the safety certification standard value of 40,000 N, which indicates that more thorough quality control is required in the manufacturing process. Additionally, comparing the thickness of the support pins and their fracture shape shows that the pipes with support length of 4.0 m or longer are much more affected by the buckling of the entire length than the thickness of the support pins. Of the several factors affecting the performance of reused pipe supports, it was found that, similar to the new products, the use of support pins, with thickness of 12 mm rather than 11 mm, can satisfy the safety certification value more appropriately. Therefore, regardless of the state of usage, it could be concluded that it is necessary to use 12 mm products, whose thickness is larger than that of the safety certification standard value of 11 mm, to improve the performance of the pipe supports.

  • 건설구조물인 교량은 1970년대 이후 584개소에서 38,405개소로 증가하였다. 하지만, 교량의 개소가 증가하면서 공용연수 30년 이상인 교량이 2030년까지 21,737개소로(71%) 증가하면서 시설물에 대한 인적자원 기본 유지보수에 따른 인명사고가 발생할 수 있다. 이에 따라 교량의 안전점검 및 유지관리 방안의 중요성이 높아지고 있으며, 다수의 교량을 관리하는 감독자의 의사결정 지원의 필요성도 요구되고 있다. 현재 교량의 안전점검 및 유지관리 방법은 외관조사망도에 손상 및 상태, 위치, 규격 등을 수기로 기입하거나, 카메라로 촬영하여 기록하는 방식을 사용하고 있지만, 손상·결함의 표기 오류나 감독관의 착각, 오타 등으로 인해 안전점검 및 진단 전체의 신뢰성이 저하될 수 있다. 이를 개선하기 위해 본 연구에서는 BIM 모델에 기록된 손상데이터를 AR 환경에 시각화하고, 감독자의 유지관리 의사결정 지원을 통해 소수의 인원이 많은 교량의 유지관리 방안에 대해 제안한다.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 호텔의 최고경영자의 친환경적인 태도가 호텔 직원들과 직속상사와 동료그룹들에게 Sobel z 테스트를 사용하여 녹색경영 프로세스를 구현하는 동안 어떻게 영향을 미치는지에 대한 조사이다. 첫째, 최고경영자의 환경적인 태도는 직속상사와 동료그룹의 환경적인 태도에 상당히 긍정적인 효과가 있다. 둘째, 직속상사와 동료그룹의 환경적인 태도, 호텔고용의 녹색 경영은 가치적 사명감 또는 규범적 사명감에 상당한 긍정적인 효과를 가지고 있다. 셋째, 직속상사와 동료그룹의 환경적인 태도와 최고경영자의 친환경적인 태도 그리고 호텔 직원의 가치적 사명감과 규범적 사명감 사이에는 긍정적인 매개 효과가 있다. 따라서 호텔의 최고 경영자의 녹색경영의지의 구현에서 직속상사와 동료그룹의 강력한 지원이 업무현장에서의 호텔 고용을 위하여 필요하다는 결론을 내릴 수 있다.

The Effect of Perceived Organizational Support and Transformational Leadership on Affective Commitment and Employee Performance

  • Recognizing the vital role of employees in achieving optimal performance and sustainable competitive advantage as expected, organizations need to facilitate high support for employees, implement appropriate leadership styles, and increase affective commitment within the organization. Therefore, the objective of this study is to analyze and explore: (1) the effect of perceived organizational support (POS) on employee performance and affective commitment; (2) the effect of transformational leadership on employee performance and affective commitment; and (3) the effect of affective commitment on employee performance. The covered population in this study were all employees (including managers, supervisors, and functional staff) who worked in the stone milling companies in Central Java, Indonesia. Data obtained in this study were processed statistically employing structural equation modeling (SEM) with the SmartPLS 3 software package. Based on the data analysis results on 103 respondents, this study concluded that POS had a significant effect on affective commitment and employee performance as well as transformational leadership on affective commitment and employee performance. Furthermore, affective commitment also had a significant effect on employee performance. Thus, the results of this study, theoretically and practically, can be used by all parties concerned to improve employee performance and maintain a sustainable competitive advantage.

종합병원 간호사의 직무배태성과 간호업무성과와의 관계에서 셀프리더십과 사회적 지지의 역할 (Role of Self-leadership and Social Support in the Relationship between Job Embeddedness and Job Performance among General Hospital Nurses)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship of nurses' job performance with job embeddedness, self-leadership and social support and the role of self-leadership and social support in the relation between job embeddedness and job performance among general hospital nurses. Methods: The participants for this study were 244 nurses from 3 general hospitals in Seoul and Gyunggi Province. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, $Scheff\acute{e}$ test, Pearson correlation and Hierarchical Multiple Regression. Results: Job performance showed positive correlations with job embeddedness (r=.56, p<.001), self-leadership(r=.68, p<.001), organizational support (r=.30, p<.001), supervisors' support (r=.31, p<.001) and colleagues' support (r=.31, p<.001). Job embeddedness and self-leadership had significant influence on nurses' job performance. However self-leadership and social support did not show moderating effects of job embeddedness on nurses' job performance. Conclusion: These findings indicate that job embeddednes and self-leadership are important factors to enhance nurses' job performance. Therefore, promoting activities for job embeddedness and self-leadership might be a way to increase nurses' job performance. As there was no moderating effects of self-leadership and social support on job embeddedness and job performance, further studies are necessary to refine these findings in different environments.

대한감각통합치료학회 주최 제2회 감각통합치료캠프(치료과정) 보고 (Sensory Integration Therapy Camp(Treatment Course) Report)

  • Objective : Korean Academy of Sensory Integration(KASI) planned and executed sensory integration Therapy Camp to serve intensive sensory integration program for children with the sensory integrative dysfunction, to support their family with parent' education and home programs, and to suggest practical guideline for therapists through individual supervision and demonstrations. Methods : The camp was held during 5days in the children's center for developmental support that set up sensory integration tools. The camp executed the individual and group interventions that consisted of 7 children with sensory integrative dysfunction, especially dyspraxia and 7 therapists who manage them and 6 supervisors. Results : Children which served the intensive intervention showed the improved adaptive responses during the camp and their parents reported the satisfaction degree of the camp program was 83%. Their therapists also had a chance to understand the broader sensory integrative interventions through the supervision. Conclusion : To provide the clients for qualitative sensory integration service, the camp must be programmed that children with the sensory integrative dysfunction can service the intensive sensory integration program and their therapists can actually experience reeducation individually through supervision and demonstrations.

영유아보육·교육기관 교사의 표면적 정서노동과 직무소진간 관계에서 시설장, 동료교사, 학부모의 정서적 지지의 효과 (The relationship of surface acting in emotional labor, emotional support from supervisor, colleagues, parents and burnout of teachers in kindergartens and day care centers)

  • 이 연구는 영유아 보육 교육기관의 교사의 표면적 정서노동과 직무소진의 관계에서 시설장, 동료교사, 학부모의 정서적 지지가 상호작용 효과를 갖는지를 탐색하였다. 조사대상은 영유아 보육 교육기관의 교사 208명 이었으며 자료는 질문지 조사를 통하여 수집하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS Win 15.0 프로그램을 이용하여 위계적 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과 첫째 교사의 표면적 정서노동이 높을수록 직무소진이 증가하였으며 둘째 시설장, 동료교사, 학부모의 정서적 지지가 높을수록 직무소진이 감소하였다. 셋째 교사의 표면적 정서노동이 직무소진에 미치는 영향에 있어서 시설장의 정서적 지지, 학부모의 정서적 지지는 상호작용효과를 나타냈다. 시설장의 정서적 지지가 높을 경우 그리고 학부모의 정서적 지지가 높을 경우 표면적 정서노동이 직무소진에 미치는 영향이 약화되는 것으로 나타났다.

D도시에 종사하는 일부 치과위생사의 직무스트레스 및 우울과의 관련성 (Relationship between Job Stress contents, Depression in dental hygienists in D City)

  • 본 연구는 임상 치과위생사들의 우울수준을 파악하고, 관련요인을 알아보고자 D도시 소재 치과의원에 근무하는 치과위생사 221명을 대상으로 2009년 6월 1일부터 6월 30일까지의 기간 동안 구조화된 자기기입식 설문지를 이용하여 조사하였으며, 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 조사대상치과위생사의 우울수준은 정상군 79.1%, 경도 우울군 15.4%, 중등도 우울군 4.1%, 중증 우울군 1.4%로 나타났다. 2. 우울수준은 전문대졸 이하 군일수록, 월평균급여가 적을수록, 업무에 대한 만족도가 "만족하지 못하다"는 군일수록, 업무에 대한 적성이 "맞지 않는다"는 군일수록, 직장에서의 상사나 동료 간의 "유대관계가 좋지 않다"는 군일수록, 주관적인 건강상태가 "건강하지 못하다"는 군일수록, 아침식사를 하지 않는 군일수록, 음주를 하는 군일수록, 운동을 규칙적으로 하지 않는 군일수록, 업무요구도가 높을 때, 업무자율성이 낮을 때, 직장 내 상사의 지지도가 낮을 때 우울수준이 유의하게 높았다. 3. 우울수준과 관련변수들과의 상관관계는 업무에 대한 만족도, 업무에 대한 적성, 직장에서의 상사나 동료 간의 유대 관계, 주관적인 건강상태, 상사의 지지도, 동료의 지지도와는 음의 상관관계를 보인 반면, 업무의 요구도와는 양의 상관관계를 보였다. 따라서 우울수준을 감소시키기 위하여 여러 요인들을 개선 할 수 있는 프로그램의 시행 및 관리방안이 모색되어 향상을 통한 우울관리가 필요할 것으로 사료된다.
