  • 기존 전기자전거의 경우에 사용되는 일반 배터리팩 방식에 비해 이중 배터리 팩 (Li-ion Batterty + Super Capacitor)의 방식이 동등 주행 성능 및 지속 시간 조건에서 무게 및 원가 저감이 가능하다. 또한 기존 승압형 Converter인 Boost Converter는 이중 배터리를 이용시 큰 inrush 전류를 발생시키고 이 전류로 인해 소자 파손에 문제가 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 입력 전압을 Li-ion Battery로, 출력 전압에 Super Capacitor를 연결하는 이중 배터리로 구성되고 기존 Boost converter 입력단에 Mosfet과 Diode를 추가하여 inrush 전류가 발생하지 않게 한다. 본 논문에서는 제안된 회로의 이론적 특성을 분석하고 실험을 통해 타당성을 검증하였다.

  • Blade pitch control system monitors and adjusts angle of the blades and controls rotation speed of blades. This paper shows 2MW pitch system hardware and electric part. Blade pitch system consists of pitch drive, gear box, motor and energy storage. Fieldbus is base on CANopen protocol. Fail-Safe system moves the blades to a safety position in case of any fault condition. The super capacitor energy storage provides emergency back up to the Pitch servo driver during feathering the blades. This paper studied Blade pitch servo driver and a bi-directional DC-DC converter for fail-safe system.

  • In this paper, we studied smart phone RF wireless charging with 5.8-GHz microwave wireless power receiver. The dc output of the receiver connected to super capacitor and DC-DC converter for charging a smart phone. This configuration stably supplies 5V and current for charging it. Studies show that the more receivers are used at close range, the higher the received voltage values and the larger the capacity of the super capacitor, the longer the charging time. The present 5.8-GHz 1W wireless power transmission system is not enough for charging a smartphone mainly due to the lack of current of the receiver.

  • 운송업의 시장 규모가 커짐에 따라 물건들을 분류하는 방식에 관한 연구들이 활발하게 이루어지고 있다. 그중 크로스벨트소터 방법이 많이 쓰이고 있다. 물건이 카트 위에서 이동하다가 원하는 위치에서 출하는 하는 방식이다. 현재 Bus bar와 collector의 접촉을 이용해 출하 시 전력을 공급하는 방법을 사용하고 있다. 이 방법은 유지와 관리에서 비용이 많이 든다는 단점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 Bus bar와 collector를 사용하지 않고, 카트에서 직접 물건 출하 시 필요한 전력을 만드는 방식에 대해 언급한다. 기존 배터리의 사용 대신, 온도와 수명, 전류방전에 이점을 가진 슈퍼캐패시터를 사용한다. 시뮬레이션을 통해 슈퍼캐패시터의 충전과 출력이 높은 상황에서 슈퍼캐패시터가 전력을 보상해주는 동작을 검증한다.

  • A problem exists in the conventional transportation cart applications, in which an external power supply with mechanical contact connection (bus bar connection) is required to drive the motor. Therefore, continuous effort for maintenance is required, aside from the expensive bus bar connector. To solve this problem, a self-electricity-generated transportation cart system without bus bar has recently been introduced. In this system, a battery needs to store the power of the generated wheel, and a boost converter, which converts the low battery voltage to high bus voltage to drive the motor inverter, is necessary. However, since the instantaneous large current required for starting the motor is supplied from the battery, a battery with large size and volume should be adopted to withstand this large current. In this study, a boost converter that can supply a large instantaneous current by using super Capacitor string is proposed. The proposed converter can be realized with a small size and volume compared with the conventional battery-fed boost converter. Operational principles, analysis, and design of the proposed converter are presented, and experimental results are provided to validate the proposed converter.

  • The variable speed engine generator set is interested for an isolated power system due to reduced fuel consumption and less emission. However, because of sluggish dynamic behavior of the internal combustion engine the power quality would be degraded during the sudden load power surge, where the power required by the load is not available by the engine due to the reduced engine speed. An isolated power system based on variable speed engine with a super-capacitor bank can improve dynamic characteristics under such a sudden load change, and power quality, fuel consumption, and pollutants can be improved remarkably. Also, it is verified by the computer simulation that the inverter of 3phase-4leg is compatible to the isolated power system with unbalanced load. In this paper, the feasibility of the system has been verified based on a 26kw commercial diesel engine system.

  • This paper deals with a control method for a hybrid energy storage system (ESS) with a battery and super capacitor for grid-connected operation. To improve the grid regulation and to minimize the depth of discharge of the battery, control algorithms for the hybrid ESS are proposed. A p-q control with predictive current control is used for the inverters for the super-capacitor and the battery. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed control method, simulation studies using the PSIM and RTDS are carried out for the actual grid model.

  • 슈퍼캐패시터(Super Capacitor) 또는 울트라 캐패시터(Ultra Capacitor) 등으로 불리우는 전기 이중층 캐패시터(EDLC, Electric Double Layer Capacitor)는 기존 콘덴서보다 월등한 용량 특성을 가지며, 전극과 전해질의 화학반응을 이용하던 이차전지들과 달리 주로 계면반응을 사용한 축전원리를 이용하여 높은 출력밀도와 충방전 효율, 무제한에 가까운 사이클 특성을 가지고 있다. 또한 전류변화에 안정적이어서 기존의 이차전지와는 달리 보호회로를 생략할 수 있기 때문에 단순한 회로 구성이 가능하고 전극활물질로서 탄소재를 사용하여 환경 친화적인 특성을 가진 차세대 에너지저장장치라고 할 수 있다. 특히 50만 사이클이라는 우수한 수명특성으로 인해 기존의 이차전지가 사용되기 어려운 다양한 분야에 적용이 늘어가고 있는 추세에 있다.

Development of an Electro Impedance Spectroscopy device for EDLC super capacitor characterization in a mass production line (EDLC 슈퍼 캐피시터 특성 분석을 위한 양산용 전기화학 분석 장치 개발)

  • In this paper, we developed an electro impedance spectroscopy (EIS) device, which are primarily used for the analysis of fuel cells or batteries, to widen its coverage to the next generation super capacitor EDLC characterization. The developed system was composed of a signal generator that can generate various signal patterns, a potentiostatic generator, and a high speed digital filter for signal processing and measurement program. The developed system is portable, which is not only suitable laboratory use but also for mass production line. The special features of the system include a patterned output signal from 0.01 to 20 kHz, and a fast Fourier transform (FFT) analysis of current signals, both of which are acquired simultaneously. Our tests showed similar results after comparing the analysis from our newly-developed device showing the characteristics of EDLC complex impedance and the analysis from an equivalent impedance which was applied to an equivalent circuit. Now, we can expect a fast inspection time from the application of the present system to the super capacitor production line, based on time-varying changes in electrochemical impedance.

The Research On the Energy Storage System Using SuperCapacitor (슈퍼커패시터를 적용한 에너지 저장시스템 설계에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, the research on the energy storage system adapting super-capacitor has been performed. The most advanced features compared to the conventional lead-acid battery systems is that it can obtain high power capability due to the super capacitor power characteristics. The suggested system can attain high power in short times and achieve high power quality improvements. The application areas are power quality improvement system, motor start power which requires high power during transient times. The energy conversion system consists of bi-directional converter and inverter and advantages of high speed, high power charging and discharging performances. The design steps for the two loop controller of the bi-directional inverter are suggested and verified by the experiment and manufacturing. The two loop controller design starts from linearized transfer function which is calculated from the state averaging model including state decoupling method. The current controller requirements are 20% overshoot and settling time and voltage controller are no overshoot and settling time which is 10 times longer than current controller. The design is verified from the step input response. The designed controllers have unity power factor characteristics and thus can improve the power quality of the grid. It also has fast response time and zero steady state error.
