  • Evaporation from surface water bodies is influenced by a number of meteorological parameters. The rate of evaporation is primarily controlled by incoming solar radiation, air and water temperature and wind speed and relative humidity. In the present study, influence of weekly meteorological variables such as air temperature, relative humidity, bright sunshine hours, wind speed, wind velocity, rainfall on rate of evaporation has been examined using 35 years(1971-2005) of meteorological data. Statistical analysis was carried out employing linear regression models. The developed regression models were tested for goodness of fit, multicollinearity along with normality test and constant variance test. These regression models were subsequently validated using the observed and predicted parameter estimates with the meteorological data of the year 2005. Further these models were checked with time order sequence of residual plots to identify the trend of the scatter plot and then new standardized regression models were developed using standardized equations. The highest significant positive correlation was observed between pan evaporation and maximum air temperature. Mean air temperature and wind velocity have highly significant influence on pan evaporation whereas minimum air temperature, relative humidity and wind direction have no such significant influence.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of shading degree and rooting media on the growth of Caragana sinica and Sedum middendorffianum after cutting. In C. sinica, the highest rooting rate was obtained in cuttings planted in horticultural soil (Sunshine Mix #1) and peat moss mixture (peat moss : perlite = 1 : 1, v/v) under one layer of 35% shading and in cuttings planted in kanumatsuchi soil mixture (kanumatsuchi soil : decomposition of granite = 1 : 1, v/v) under non-shading. Whereas, regardless of shading degree, most cuttings of S. middendorffianum rooted in both horticultural soil and peat moss mixture. Cuttings of C. sinica showed the highest root length, 10.4cm in kanumatsuchi soil mixture under one layer of 35% shading but the highest fresh and dry weight of roots in kanumatsuchi soil mixture under non-shading. In S. middendorffianum, the highest root length, fresh and dry weight of root were obtained in cuttings planted in horticultural soil under non-shading. With these results, we recommended that cuttings of C. sinica should be propagated in kanumatsuchi soil mixture under non-shading and cuttings of S. middendorffianum in horticultural soil under non-shading.

  • The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between rice yield and climate elements in Daegu (southern plain area) and Andong (inland mountainous area) regions. Over the past 20 years, rice yield has increased in both regions. The rice yield of middle and mid-late maturing cultivars in the recent 5 years increased by about 10% and 18%, respectively, compared to that produced in the early 2000s in the Daegu region. In the Andong region, the rice yield of mid-late maturing rice cultivars in the recent 5 years was higher by about 7% than that of the early 2000s. The number of panicles per hill and grain ripening rate significantly affected rice yield in mid-late maturing cultivars. In addition, the grain weight and grain ripening rate significantly affected rice production in middle maturing cultivars grown in the Daegu region. With regard to the middle maturing cultivars, the relationship between grain weight and rice yield had a positive significant correlation in both regions. To understand the effect of climate factors on rice yield, the milled rice yield of several rice cultivars produced over the past 20 years (1999-2018) at both locations, Daegu and Andong, were evaluated. The rice yields increased owing to long sunshine duration during the grain filling stage in the Daegu region. In Andong, rising maximum temperature during the vegetative stage increased rice yield of early and mid-late maturing cultivars. Long sunshine hours increased yield of mid-late maturing cultivars in both regions.

  • The experiment was designed to determine the proper shading rate and shading materials to decrease the excessive dried leaves during cure of burley tobacco. Five shading rates and seaven shading materials were applied on the pipe vinyl house from initial stage or yellow stage of cure. Temperature was lower and weight-loss of leaves delayed with shading from initial stage to browning stage of cure. Excessive dried leave were largely decreased as shading rate was increased to 70%. However, at shading rate more than 70%, its decreasing extent was fewer. Price per kg and physical properties improved considerably at shading rate of 50%. Shading materials alone could not completely prevent excessive dried leaves but it could decrease them. Orange, white and purple color vinyl among shading materials had so effects of shading as the black shading cloth during curing. However, white color vinyl didn't endure more than a few months due to sunshine. A difference of light quality in visible light was no significance on air curing.

  • To develop a model for prediction of turnip mosaic virus(TuMV) disease progress of Chinese cabbage based on weather information and number of TuMV vector aphids trapped in Taegwallyeong alpine area, data were statistically processed together. As the variables influenced on TuMV disease progress, cumulative portion(CPT) above 13$^{\circ}C$ in daily average temperature was the most significant, and solar radiation, duration of sunshine, vector aphids and cumulative temperature above $0^{\circ}C$ were significant. When logistic model and Gompertz model were compared by detemining goodness of fit for TuMV disease progress using CPT as independent variable, regression coefficient was higher in the logistic model than in the Gompertz model. Epidemic parameters, apparent infection rate and initial value of logistic model, were estimated by examining the relationship between disease proportion linearized by logit transformation equation, In(Y/Yf-Y) and CPT. Models able to describe the progression of TuMV disease were formulated in Y=100/(1+128.4 exp(-0.013.CPT.(-1(1/(1+66.7.exp(-0.11.day). Calculated disease progress from the model was in good agreement with investigated actual disease progress showing high significance of the coefficient of determination with 0.710.

  • These day cities experience serious climatic changes due to environmental load caused by disturbance in the circulation systems of water resources and energy. As technological improvement to respond to various climatic changes and disasters are also requested in the field of construction, inter-disciplinary studies linked to the establishment of sustainable environmental control and energy systems is required in a consilient perspective. This study aims to infer correlations in the impact of environmental changes caused by rooftop greening system on the photovoltaic power generation efficiency through computer simulation in an integrated perspective. By doing so, it seeks to provide basic study for developing a photovoltaic system integrated with building revegetation that is sustainable in environmental and resource aspects. A simulation showed that, in the case of sunshine hours in June, the green surface indicated temperature lowering effects of $9.19^{\circ}C$ on average compared to the non-green surface and temperature was $9.81^{\circ}C$ lower. Due to such greening effects, at the highest sunlight timepoint in June, Pmpp improved 119W and heat loss rate dropped 7.8%.

  • 1. The higher the temperature of the sea water, and the smaller the size of the oriental brown shrimp, the higher the feeding rate of the shrimp will be as long as the temperature ranges from $19^{\circ}\;to\;30^{\circ}C$, and each shrimp weighs from 1.6 to 14.9 grams. The average daily feeding rate is between 18 to 44 percent. 2. The nighttime feeding rate is always higher than the daytime feeding rate. However, the daytime feeding rate can be raised to from 22 to 37 percent of the daily feeding rate iii the non-sediment, dark or direct-sunshine-shielded conditions. Growth can thus be accelerated to that extent under such conditions. 3. When anchovy and short-necked clam meats were simultaneously used as food, a greater quantity of anchovy meat was consumed than short-necked clam meat both during the daytime and nighttime. When anchovy and short-necked clam meats were simultaneously given, the averaged daily feeding rates of anchovy and short-necked clam meats were 12.9 percent and 10.3 percent, respectively. 4. The following equation applies to the relationship between the freight of the oriental brown shrimp (W in grams) and their daily growth rate (DGR in percent): log DGR=0.7035-0.7864 log W. The daily growth rate is in inverse proportion to the size of the shrimp. 5. The efficiency of food conversion of the oriental brown shrimp fluctuates between 2.8 and 7.8 percent without extensive difference depending on the size of the shrimp. This was very small as compared with the corresponding figures so far known for fish and cuttlefish.

  • Investigation was carried out on response of Tetrapleura tetraptera (Schum. and Thonn.) to soil, water and light with the view of its domestication and introduction to different ecological regions. The experiment was arranged in a factorial experiment of $3{\times}3{\times}3$ in a completely randomized design (CRD) with three replicates. The factors were: soil textural class (Loamy sand, Sand and Sandy clay loam), watering regime (daily, twice a week and once a week) and light intensity (100%, 75% and 50%). Soil textural classes had significant influence on collar diameter, stem height, number of leaflets, root/shoot ratio and relative growth rate of Tetrapleura seedlings. Seedlings grown on loamy sand recorded the highest mean value- 2.28 mm for collar diameter, stem height- 12.9 cm, number of leaflets- 19.9, chlorophyll b- $0.34mg\;mL^{-1}$, leaf relative water content- 27.4% and relative growth rate- $0.037mg\;g^{-1}\;day^{-1}$. Watering regime had significant influence on the collar diameter of Tetrapleura. Seedlings watered daily recorded the highest mean value- 2.25 mm for collar diameter. Light intensity significantly influenced collar diameter and root/shoot ratio. Seedlings exposed to 100% light intensity recorded higher mean value for collar diameter- 2.28 mm and root/shoot ratio- 1.481 cm. The interaction between soil textural class and light intensity significantly affected collar diameter, stem height and number of leaflets. Higher mean value for collar diameter (2.47 mm) stem height (13.25 cm) and number of leaflets (21.16) were recorded while the interaction between soil textural class, light intensity and watering regime was significant for only number of leaflets. Tetrapleura exhibited some level of tolerance to different soil texture, drought and light intensity. Therefore, Tetrapleura has the potentials to be raised in different ecological zones characterized by difference in soil, rainfall and amount of sunshine.
