The classification of the effect of ionospheric disturbances on the radio occultation signal amplitude has been introduced based on an analysis of more than 2000 seances of radio occultation measurements per formed with the help of the CHAMP German satellite. The dependence of the histograms of variations in the radio occultation signal amplitude on the IMF variation index has been revealed. It has been indicated that it is possible to introduce the radio occultation index characterizing the relation between ionospheric disturbances and solar activity. An amplitude radio occultation (RO) method is proposed to study connection between the ionospheric and solar activity on a global scale. Sporadic amplitude scintillation observed in RO experiments contain important information concerning the seasonal, geographical, and temporal distributions of the ionospheric disturbances and depend on solar activity. The probability of strong RO amplitude variations (RO $S_4$ index greater than 0.2) in the CHAMP RO signals diminishes sharply with the weakening of solar activity from 2001 to 2008. The general number of RO events with strong amplitude variations can be used as an indicator of the ionospheric activity. We found that during 2001-2008 the daily globally averaged RO $S_{4a}$ index depends essentially on solar activity. The maximum occurred in January 2002, minimum has been observed in summer 2008. Different temporal behavoir of $S_{4a}$ index has been detected for polar (with latitude greater than $60^{\circ}$) and low latitude (moderate and equatorial) regions. For polar regions $S_{4a}$ index is slowly decreasing with solar activity. In the low latitude areas $S_{4a}$ index is sharply oscillating, depending on the solar ultraviolet emission variations. The different geographical behavoir of $S_{4a}$ index indicates different origin of ionospheric plasma disturbances in polar and low latitude areas. Origin of the plasma disturbances in the polar areas may be connected with influence of solar wind, the ultraviolet emission of the Sun may be the main cause of the ionospheric irregularities in the low latitude zone. Therefore, the $S_{4a}$ index of RO signal is important radio physical indicator of solar activity.
While major solar proton events (SPEs) come from the coronal mass eject (CME)-driven shocks in solar wind, there are many evidences that potentiality of CMEs to generate SPEs depends on its early evolution near the Sun and on different solar activities observed around the CME liftoff time. To decipher origin of SPE release, we have investigated onset time comparison of the SPE with CME, metric type II radio burst, and hard X-ray flare. For this, we select 30 SPEs observed from 1997 to 2006 by using the particle instrument ERNE onboard SOHO, which allows proton flux anisotropy measurement in the energy range ~10 - 50MeV. Onset time of the SPEs is inferred by considering the energy-dependent proton transport time. As results, we found that (1) SPE onset time is comparable to that of type II but later than type III onset time and HXR start time, (2) SPE onset time is mostly later than the peak time of HXR flare, (3) almost half of the SPE onsets occurred after the HXR emission, and (4) there are two groups of CME height at the onset time of SPE; one is the height below 5 Rs (low corona) and the other is above 5Rs (high corona). In this talk, we will present the onset time comparison and discuss about the origin of the SPE onset.
A fundamental problem in space physics is to explain the origin of energetic charged particles in space close to the Earth and the significant temporal variations of their flux. The particles are primarily electrons and protons although energetic heavy ions such as O+ are sometimes non-negligible. By "energetic" we mean a rather broad energy range of particles from a few tens of keV to well above MeV. Drastic variations of the particle fluxes (by >3 orders of magnitude) occur over both a short time scale like a few minutes and a long time scale like the 11-year sunspot cycle. In this talk I will focus on relativistic energy electrons (~MeV) trapped within the Earth's magnetosphere. They are a primary element of the space weather since they can cause damage to satellites, so often called "killer electrons". Considering that the source particles in both the solar wind and the ionosphere are relatively cold (~eV), the quasi-permanent existence of these very energetic particles close to the Earth has been a surprise to space physicists for decades. Complex electromagnetic processes such as wave-particle interactions within the magnetosphere are believed to play a major role in generating these killer electrons. While detailed physics remains an active research area, for this lecture I will introduce a synthesized picture of how solar activities are related to wave-particle interaction physics inside the magnetosphere. This can be applied to other astrophysical systems.

This paper deals with the operation of a hybrid power generation system made with photovoltaic cells and piezoelectric materials. The system can produce power from the wind as well as from the sun subject to their availability. Irrespective of the largeness of their power production, the power developed by both generators (i.e., phtovoltaic cells and piezoelectric cells) were combined and stored before it was applied to a load. Especially, the AC power (current) developed from each piezoelectric generator was converted by a full wave bridge rectifier and then combined prior to its storage in a capacitor. It was observed that the system can produce a maximum output power of 6.49 mW at loading resistance of $100{\Omega}$.

In this study, the PV output and module temperature values were predicted using the Meteorological Agency data and compared with actual data, weather, solar radiation, ambient temperature, and wind speed. The forecast accuracy by weather was the lowest in the data on a clear day, which had the most data of the day when it was snowing or the sun was hit at dawn. The predicted accuracy of the module temperature and the amount of power generation according to the amount of insolation decreased as the amount of insolation increased, and the predicted accuracy according to the ambient temperature decreased as the module temperature increased as the ambient temperature increased and the amount of power generated lowered the ambient temperature. As for wind speed, the predicted accuracy decreased as the wind speed increased for both module temperature and power generation, but it was difficult to define the correlation because wind speed was insignificant than the influence of other weather conditions.
Paradigm depending only on fossil fuel for building heat source is rapidly changing. Accelerating the change, as it has been known, is obligation for reducing green house gas coming from use of fossil fuel, i.e. reaction to United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. In addition, factors such as high oil price, unstable supply, weapon of petroleum and oil peak, by replacing fossil fuel, contributes to advance of environmental friendly renewable energy which can be continuously reusable. Therefore, current new energy policies, beyond enhancing effectiveness of heat using equipments, are to make best efforts for national competitiveness. Our country supports 11 areas for new renewable energy including sun light, solar heat and wind power. Among those areas, ocean thermal energy specifies tidal power generation using tide of sea, wave and temperature differences, wave power generation and thermal power generation. But heat use of heat source from sea water itself has been excluded as non-utilized energy. In the future, sea water heat source which has not been used so far will be required to be specified as new renewable energy. This research is to survey local heating system in Europe using sea water, central solar heating plants, seasonal thermal energy store and to analyze large scale central solar heating plants in German. Seasonal thermal energy store necessarily need to be equipped with large scale thermal energy store. Currently operating central solar heating system is a effective method which significantly enhances sharing rate of solar heat in a way that stores excessive heat generating in summer and then replenish insufficient heat for winter. Construction cost for this system is primarily dependent on large scale seasonal heat store and this high priced heat store merely plays its role once per year. Since our country is faced with 3 directional sea, active research and development for using sea water heat as cooling and heating heat source is required for seashore villages and building units. This research suggests how to utilize new energy in a way that stores cooling heat of sea water into seasonal thermal energy store when temperature of sea water is its lowest temperature in February based on West Sea and then uses it as cooling heat source when cooling is necessary. Since this method utilizes seasonal thermal energy store from existing central solar heating plant for heating and cooling purpose respectively twice per year maximizing energy efficiency by achieving 2 seasonal thermal energy store, active research and development is necessarily required for the future.

In this study, the effects of the surface topographical characteristics on the meteorological fields are examined in a mesoscale meteorlolgical model. We calculated the direct solar radiation using the illumination angle considering the inclination of topography and tried to find out its effect on meteorological fields. In above experiments, we selected two cases for the clear day and the cloudy day to show the effect of weather and represented the results for two cases. In the correction of the direct solar radiation, the results of two cases indicate that there are obvious differences on the steep Taeback and Soback mountains. And on the time-series analysis the east-facing slope of these mountains receives the more direct solar radiation about $10-60W/m^2$ in the morning hours but lesser in the afternoon hours than the horizontal surface while it is opposite on the west-facing slope. And the results mentioned above are more obvious at clear day. With the same analysis method, at clear day, the surface skin temperature is higher at all hours than that on horizontal surface on the both of slope. At cloudy and rainy day, the surface skin temperature on the east-facing slope is higher in the morning hours but lower in the afternoon hours than that on horizontal surface. But on the west-facing slope, it is higher at all hours than that on horizontal surface. In the two cases, the temperature considering the slope of surface is almost higher than that on the horizontal surface. The wind is stronger than that on the horizontal surface with increasing pressure gradient force according as increasing temperature gradient around the Taeback and the Soback mountains.

Environmental issue is one of the key factors to industry area using fossil fuels, because it accelerates the global warming. So it is supposed to reduce greenhouse gases around the developed nations of the world at times go. This issue is especially for the power industry. Under this background, MicroGrid system that consists of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) system, such as natural power system (wind, solar) and fuel-cell, co-generation, also known as CHP (Combined heat and power), has been developed greatly during the last 10 years. This paper adopts optimal model using GAMS to develop methods for conducting an integrated assessment of MicroGrid system.

The reduction method of harmonic currents is very important, when harmonic influences of the systems connections of AC power lines with dispersed generations like solar energy and wind power generation etc, increase more and more. Which the influences of harmonic currents bring not only the drop of power quality but also many trouble occurrences of various systems. Recently, the necessity about application development of new substitute energy has gone up, and the development and practical use of dispersed power lines are proceeding now. Henceforth, a counterplan against harmonic influences must be devised for more practical use of new substitute energy. In this paper, we studied the harmonic influences and new devices for that connections and defined the calculating methods for hamonic currents of those systems.
