  • In this paper, we assume the uplink multiuser MIMO system based on FDD. Considering the implementation of practical system, Antenna selection and Transmit Beamforming scheme are suggested. System model of both two schemes are introduced and the scheduling algorithm which approaches the optimal performance with affordable computational complexity is proposed for each transmission scheme. Simulation results show that the sum-rate of the proposed low complexity scheduler approaches the performance of brute-force scheduler which is believed to be the optimal scheme.

  • This paper proposes an efficient and low complexity power-loading algorithm for MIMO-OFDM downlink based cognitive radio system that maximizes the sum rate of single secondary user (SU) under constraints on the tolerable interference thresholds between secondary user and primary user's frequency bands and the total transmission power. Our suboptimal algorithm is based on the $2^{nd}$ order interference tracking and nulling mechanism to allocate transmission power of the subcarriers among SU's scheme. The performance of our proposed suboptimal scheme is compared with the performance of the classical power loading algorithms, e.g., water filling, $1^{st}$ order interference tracking, nulling, and other suboptimal schemes. Numerical results show that our algorithm has low complexity but obtains a higher channel capacity than that of some previous suboptimal algorithms in some scenarios. We dedicate also that for a given interference threshold, the $2^{nd}$ order interference tracking mechanism has dynamic number of nulling position instead fixed number of nulling position.

  • Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) where all users share the entire time and frequency resource has paid attention as one of the key technologies to enhance the spectral efficiency and the total throughput. Nevertheless, as the number of users and SIC error increase, the inter-user interference and the residual interference due to the SIC error also increase, resulting in performance degradation. In order to mitigate the performance degradation, we propose grouping-based NOMA system. In the proposed scheme, all users are divided into two groups based on the distance between the BS and each user, where one utilizes the first half of the bandwidth and the other utilizes the rest in the orthogonal manner. On the other hand, users in each group share the spectrum in the non-orthogonal manner. Grouping users can reduce both the inter-user interference and residual interference due to the SIC error, so it can outperform conventional NOMA system, especially in case that the number of users and the SIC error increase. Based on that, we also present the hybrid operation of the conventional and the proposed NOMA systems. In numerical results, the total throughput of the proposed NOMA systems is compared with that of the conventional NOMA systems with regard to the number of users and SIC error. It is confirmed that the proposed NOMA system outperforms the conventional NOMA system as the number of users and the SIC error increase.

  • As 4G mobile communication systems require high transmission rates with reliability, the need for efficient error correcting code is increasing. In this paper, a novel LDPC (Low Density Parity Check) decoder is introduced. The LDPC code is one of the most popular error correcting codes. In order to improve performance of the LDPC decoder, we use SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio) estimation results to adjust coefficients of modified UMP-BP (Uniformly Most Probable Belief Propagation) algorithm which is one of widely-used LDPC decoding algorithms. An advantage of Modified UMP-BP is that it is amenable to implement in hardware. We generate the optimal values by simulation for various SNRs and coefficients, and the values are stored in a look-up table. The proposed decoder decides coefficients of the modified UMP-BP based on SNR information. The simulation results show that the BER (Bit Error Rate) performance of the proposed LDPC decoder is better than an LDPC decoder using a conventional modified UMP-BP.

  • High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) Standard, as the latest coding standard, introduces satisfying compression structures with respect to its predecessor Advanced Video Coding (H.264/AVC). The new coding standard can offer improved encoding performance compared with H.264/AVC. However, it also leads to enormous computational complexity that makes it considerably difficult to be implemented in real time application. In this paper, based on machine learning, a fast partitioning method is proposed, which can search for the best splitting structures for Intra-Prediction. In view of the video texture characteristics, we choose the entropy of Gray-Scale Difference Statistics (GDS) and the minimum of Sum of Absolute Transformed Difference (SATD) as two important features, which can make a balance between the computation complexity and classification performance. According to the selected features, adaptive decision trees can be built for the Coding Units (CU) with different size by offline training. Furthermore, by this way, the partition of CUs can be resolved as a binary classification problem. Experimental results have shown that the proposed algorithm can save over 34% encoding time on average, with a negligible Bjontegaard Delta (BD)-rate increase.

  • The lifetime is a key characteristic of product quality. It is best to obtain the lifetime data of all samples, but they are often censored due to time or expense limitations. In this paper, we propose a binomial cumulative sum (CUSUM) chart to monitor the mean of type I right-censored Weibull lifetime data, for a xed value of the Weibull shape parameter. We compare the performance of the proposed binomial CUSUM chart with CUSUM charts studied previously using the steady-state average run length (ARL). The results show that the performance of the binomial CUSUM chart is better when the censoring rate is high and/or the sample size is small.

  • In this paper, we propose two novel detection schemes with low-complexity based on the unified receiver architecture which minimizes a fundamental tradeoff at rate-energy region in SWIPT system. The proposed detection schemes are twofold: The two-stage detection scheme and Euclidean distance combination detection scheme. The two-stage detection scheme detects amplitude information of symbols from rectified signals for energy harvesting. In the sequel, it detects symbols based on phase information of baseband signals for information decoding. The Euclidean distance combination detection scheme detects symbols using linear positive-weighted sum of two metrics: Euclidean distance based on baseband signals for information decoding and Euclidean distance based on rectified signals for energy harvesting. For numerical results, we confirm that the proposed detection scheme can achieve better performance than the conventional scheme in terms of symbol error rate, symbol success rate-energy region and achievable rate-energy region.

  • This study raised the necessity of developing performance indicators for measuring the management efficiency and effectiveness of school food service, and as a means of helping its implementation, a balanced score card (BSC) approach developed by Norton and Kaplan was adopted. This study established BSC in seven phases through literature: Phase 1 Defining a school food service and the scope of working activities, Phase 2 Establishing the vision of a school food service, Phase 3 Setting strategic goals, Phase 4 Identifying critical success factors (CSFs), Phase 5 Developing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Phase 6 Extracting cause and effect relationship, and Phase 7 Completing a preliminary BSC. The preliminary BSC was fumed into a survey, which was administered to food service related people working at the Office of Education and School Food Service including 16 offices,209 dietitians, 48 school administrators both from self-operated and contract-managed, and 9 experts in areas related to school food service. They were asked questions about strategies from 4 different perspectives,12 CSFs, 39 KPls, and the cause and effect relationships among them. As a result, among the CSFs based on 4 different perspectives, all factors other than ' zero sum on profit/loss ' from the financial perspective turned out to be valid. In terms of KPIs, manufacturing cost percentages, casualty loss count/reduction rates, school foodervice participation rates, and sales goal achievement rates were found to be valid from the financial perspective, while student satisfaction index, faculty satisfaction index, leftover ratio, nutrition educational performance count, index of evaluating nutrition education, customer claim count/reduction rate, handling customer claim count/reduction rate, and parent satisfaction index were found to be valid from the customers' perspective. Besides, nutritional requirement sufficient ratio, nutritional management score, food poisoning outbreak count, employee safety accident count, sanitary inspection assessment index, meals per labor hour (productivity index), computerization ratio, operational management index, and purchase management assessment index were also found to be valid from the perspective of internal business processes. From the perspective of innovation and learning, employee turnover ratio/rate of absenteeism, annual education and training count, employee satisfaction index, human resource management assessment index, annual menu-related customer feedback, food service information index for employees and parents/schools were also found to be valid. The significance of this study is to present indices for measuring overall performance of school lunch food service operations without putting any limitation on types of school food service management, and to help correctly assess the contribution of the current types of school food service management to schools and students. • This paper studies the performance of STTC with minimum Hamming distance (MHD) mapping in order to improve the bit error rate (BER) performance. Unfortunately, the MHD mapping used in trellis coded modulation (TCM) or multiple trellis coded modulation (MTCM) cannot be directly applied to STTC because the trellis structure of STTC is generally different from that of TCM or MTCM. Therefore, we need a simple modification to apply the MHD mapping concept in STTC. The core of the modification assigns information bits with a Hamming distance in proportion to the sum of the Euclidean distance to trellis branch of STTC. To the best knowledge, this combination has not been considered yet. The BER performance is examined with simulations and the performance of MHD mapping is compared to that of well known natural mapping and Gray mapping on both fast Rayleigh as well as fast Rician fading channels. It is shown that the performance of MHD mapping is much better than that of natural mapping or Gray mapping over fast Rician fading channels, especially.
