  • This study was performed to compare the activities of sulfate esters and sulfonate salts. (comparison of activities such as detergency, forming, permeation and patient of hard water). The one of the method is the combined use of nonionics and the other is the use of anionics alone. The results obtained are as follows: 1. The sulfonate salts are better soluble than the sulfate esters. 2. The lauryl system is better soluble than the sulfate esters. 3. The alkylol sulfate(CONH-OSO3H)that is induced amide radical to the fatty acid shows the excellent foaming power and detergency.

  • Stabilities of chelates of 7-nitroso-8-hydroxyquinoline-5-sulfonate have been determined for divalent transition metal ions, Mn(Ⅱ), Fe(Ⅱ), Co(Ⅱ), Ni(Ⅱ), Cu(Ⅱ), and Zn(Ⅱ) by means of the Calvin-Bjerrum technique. Comparison of these stability constants with those obtained for 8-hydroxyquinoline, and 8-hydroxyquinoline-5-sulfonate shows that the observed differences are essentially the results of the lower basicity of the sulfonated group and different metal-ligand bond. The divalent metal chelate stability sequence is not in agreement with the reported metal orders for other chelating agents. The stabilities were found to follow the order Mn(Ⅱ) < Fe(Ⅱ) ${\approx}$ Co(Ⅱ) > Ni(Ⅱ) < Cu(Ⅱ) > Zn(Ⅱ).

  • The contamination concentrations of the alkyl benzene sulfonate (ABS) pollution in the Han river were investigated at 3 sites from July through september, 1977. The samples were taken on the upper, the middle, and the lower Han river and 5points of each part, respectively. The contamination concentrations of ABS pollution in the river were 0.012 p.p.m of the upper site, 0.206 p.p.m of the middle site, and 0.486 p.p.m of the lower site in average, respectively. Consequently, the contamination concentrations of ABS pollution in the Han river were the highest at the lower site, where is between second Han river bridge and Nan Ji island.

  • Microorganisms capale of utilizing linear alkylbenzene sulfonates(LAS) as sole carbon source were isolated from industrial effluent by using LAS agar plates. The isolated strains were identified as Salmonella sp(BC-2) and Escherichia sp.(BC-3) from the results of morphological, cultural and biochemical tests. The optimal condition for the growth and biodegradation of LAS was the initial pH 7.0 and LAS concentration 0.1%. The isolated BC-2 and BC-3 strains harbored plasmid and LAS-degrading activity was lost when the plasmids were cured by mitomycin C. The plasmids were transformed into E. coli and transformants have the LAS-degrading activity. Isolated strains were examined for primary biodegradation rate of LAS in the medium by methylene blueactive substance(MBAS) method. Of these isolates, BC-2 and BC-3 strains degradated LAS upto 60% and high resistant to CdCl$_{2}$ and HgCl$_{2}$. Isolated strains were sensitive to chloramphenicol, kanamycin, rifampicin, streptomycin and tetracycline but resistant to ampicillin and lincomycin.] Its minimal inhibitory concentration(MIC) for ampicillin was more than 1500 $\mu $g/ml.

  • The dye-resist effect and leveling properties of hetero-mulifunctional dye-resist agents in acid dyeing of wool were investigated. The dye-resist agent with dichlorotriazinyl group achieved better resist effectiveness than those with monochlo-rotriazinyl group. The resist effectiveness was improved by increasing the number of sulfonate group in dye-resist agents. Also, the resist agents with more sulfonate groups showed better dye-assist effectivness, attributable to the increased electrostatic attraction between dye-resist agents and the cationic dye. However, the leveling properties of dye-resist agents decreased with the number of sulfonate groups in the molecule.

  • This study is on the biodegradability of the activated sludge, which used to biodegrade Linear Alkylbenzene Sulfonate(LAS), synthetic detergents and sufactants. The activated sludge in waste water treatment plant is used to the test of biodegradation of anionic surfactants and nonionic surfactants, but it have the periodic change of the biological propety to the lapse of the time. For the puropse of controlling and adjusting of the activated sludge in biodegradation test, we collected microorganisms from the sewage plant and the soil, and then, made the activated sludge in semicontinuous aeration chamber. From determined biodegradation data, and the degree of biodegradability to the LAS, we confirmd the standardized synthetic activated sludge which have more stable biodegradability than the sewage activated sludge. In continuous biodegradation test, LAS(dodecene-1) was biodegraded more than 99%, In 7days by the standardized activated sludge.

  • The binding of the 1-anilinonaphthalene-8-sulfonate(ANS) to bovine serum albumin was studied by fluorescence spectroscopy. The effect of pH, ionic strength, and protein concentration on the binding of ANS to protein were compared. The binding between ANS and protein was dependent on pH and ionic strength. It seems that both hydrophobic binding and some electrostatic forces are involved in the binding of ANS to protein. The binding constants for ANS increased with increasing protein concentration. This suggests the possibility of a sharing of one ANS molecule by more than one protein molecule at relatively high protein concentration.

  • The hydrogenolysis of polymer-bound arenesulfonates by 2-propylmagnesium chloride was performed through reductive cleavage of the C-S bond in the presence of a nickel catalyst. The reaction underwent in the highest efficiency by adding 15 equiv of the nucleophile in two additions with $dppfNiCl_2$ in THF. Various unfunctionalized naphthalene, biphenyl, and stilbene derivatives were produced in good yields by the traceless sulfonate linker system at room temperature.

  • Anthraquinone-2-sulfonate (AQS) release from poly(N-methylpyrrole anthraquinone-2-sulfonate) (PNMP-AQS) was investigated at open circuit and compared with electrochemically stimulated release during potential cycling. It was found that the fast AQS release from PNMP-AQS single layers is substantially retarded and the amounts of spontaneously and electrochemically releasable AQS can be reduced by constructing bilayers, consisting of PNMP-AQS inner layers and PNMP outer layers. PNMP-Cl outer layers exhibited higher effectiveness for entrapping AQS within inner layers than PNMP/poly(styrene slfonate). The effects of outer layer thicknesses on AQS release were also examined with PNMP-AQS:PMP-Cl. The electroactivity enhancement of PNMP-AQS:PNMP-Cl bilayers due to entrapped AQS was confirmed by chronocoulometry.

  • A new monocyclic ${\beta}-lactam$ analogue, sodium (3R,4S)-3-[2-(2-aminothiazol-4-yl)-(Z)-2-methoxyi minoacetamido]-4-methoxymethyl-2-azetidinone-1- sulfonate (3) was synthesized from L-aspartic acid. Starting from L-aspartic acid, (S)-1-benzyl-4-benzyloxycarbonyl-2-azetidinone (7) was synthesized in four steps by following the established procedures and converted into (3R,4S)-3-amino-1-t-butyldimethylsilyl-4-methoxym ethyl-2-azetidinone (13) in six steps. Acylation of the amino group of 13 with $2-amino-{\alpha}$ -(methoxyimino)-4-thiazoleacetic acid, desilylation, and sulfonation with sulfur trioxide-pyridine complex followed by ion exchange afforded sodium (3R,4S)-3-[2-(2-aminothiazol-4-yl)-(Z)-2-methoxyi minoacetamido]-4-methoxymethyl-2-azetidinone-1- sulfonate (3). Antibacterial activities of this ${\beta}$ -lactam compound 3 were, however, found to be quite low compared to cefotaxime.
