  • The trenchless entire repair technology (TERT) have many different names depending on the companies, and they have the same or similar methods as well as materials. In addition, there was quiet difficulty in application of field working and even confuse to classify for new TERT, while application criteria of TERT is not listed systematically. This study proposed standardization and method for TERT affecting by pipe condition, working materials, working method, specification/quantity per unit according to field condition, strange affairs and others. Determination criteria of defective sewer pipe has proposed to effective method which modify a criteria between Ministry of Environment and Seoul Metropolitan City. A Cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) is suitable for TERT, and the design criteria for the entire broken pipe are proposed when the pipe itself deforms more than 10%. A check lists are specimen preparing, hardening site made by clamped mold, numbers, flexural and tensile property, water leak and desquamation test, and have to use material property of minimum CIPP value depend on ISO 11296-4, ISO 11297-4, KS M3550-7 and KS M3550-9.

  • A comprehensive knowledge of the wind flow in hilly terrains is of great interest in many engineering applications, be it wind energy distribution for suitable site selection for wind farms, pollution dispersion, forest fire propagation or agrometerological studies. Several researchers have shown that wind flow over a hilly terrain may be significantly different when compared with the wind flow over a flat terrain. Complex hilly terrains may alter the wind speed to a great extent. Therefore, this effect of terrain must be properly assessed by designers and planners to arrive at a proper wind flow distribution. This paper reviews the work done in this area over the past three decades. Wind flow over two-dimensional hills and two-dimensional escarpments investigated in wind tunnels by various researchers is presented in this paper.

  • In Korea, wetland policies are currently being pursued through long-term plans such as nationwide wetland surveys and wetland conservation basic plans. However, most policies focus on understanding the status of wetlands, such as their area, distribution, and biodiversity, and there is a lack of awareness regarding the need to conserve and manage wetland ecosystems as a single organism. Therefore, this study aims to identify potential riverine wetland sites that can be ecologically connected by considering functional aspects such as floodplain, biodiversity, habitat provision, and tourism resources. This study attempted to select a candidate site that could potentially provide ecological connectivity with three wetlands in the Nakdonggang River water system : Upo Wetland, Hwapocheon Wetland, and Junam Reservoir. 63 wetlands and 7 candidate sites located in 15 subwatersheds of the Nakdonggang River were analyzed, and the most suitable candidate site for ecological connectivity was selected based on the calculated scores. A suitability analysis was conducted using 9 evaluation factors to evaluate candidate sites, and the scoring method, using quantile, was applied to these factors. As a result, Upo2(Hopo) was selected as the most suitable site for ecological connectivity, receiving the highest score 36. Therefore, it is believed that Upo2(Hopo) can serve as a floodplain, habitat, biodiversity enhancer, and tourism resource while being the most suitable for ecological connectivity.

  • This study was conducted to develop a large scale map of species-specific plantation sites based on selected environmental variables such as topography, soil, and climatic factors in Namwon city. Site index equations by tree species were first regressed to 27 environmental variables that could influence the productivity of forest sites using digital forest site maps, digital climate maps, and the 5th National Forest Inventory data. Site index equations by tree species were all evaluated to estimate site productivity using 4-5 environmental variables, and the models' reliability was confirmed based on evaluation statistics. The determination coefficients of site index equations by species ranged from 0.42 to 0.76. With the site index equations, the site conditions appropriate for productive sites by species were considered to assess spatial distribution of productive areas for each species. The final map for optimal plantation in Namwon city was produced based on both site index equations and site conditions appropriate for productive sites by each species using GIS technique. Field survey was conducted to evaluate the suitability of selected species on the map of species-specific plantation sites. Results showed that the plantation map provides relatively reasonable spatial distribution of productive areas for selected species. It was revealed, however, that the sites evaluated as 'not suitable' for any tree species should be revised and complemented with additional information, especially with the site conditions appropriate for productive sites by species of interest. The outcomes of this study are expected to provide information for making customized species-specific plantation maps.

  • Most of Korean farms have been developed in the semi-closed bay, and its position is very vulnerable to the coastal contamination due to the long term and the high density. So, mariculture management is very essential for the sustainable aquaculture. Some of the specific ways would be the assessment of the optimal stocking density for mariculture management zone and this has to consider both the suitable site selection and the assessment of ecological carrying capacity. Habitat suitability index(0.0 totally unsuitable habitat, 1.0 optimum habitat) and ecological indicator(Filtration pressure indicator) was used to assess the stocking density for oyster farms in Geoje-Hansan Bay. Geoje Bay showed the higher habitat suitability index value 0.75 than Hansan Bay 0.53, indicating that Geoje Bay is more suitable for oyster farming. Ecological indicator showed different stocking density according to the coastal characteristics in Geoje-Hansan Bay. Consequently, it is desirable that the stocking density in Geoje Bay should reduce average 40% and Hansan Bay, average 60% than present, in order to meet the ecological carrying capacity. The assessment of the stocking density could solve various problems such as the coastal contamination, environmental aggravation and the productivity decrease and this study could be a scientific basis to establish the policies for mariculture management.

  • Recently, the Shield TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) construction method is used gradually to increase at the Tunnel Constructin site. However the design and application of the Shield TBM were carried out without sufficient investigation of the ground conditions in the construction site. Due to insufficient understanding to the corresponding equipment is frequently occurring unexpected construction cost and extension of a construction period. The most suitable alternative construction method was determined by analyzing tunneling rate, duration, construction cost of shield machine and tunneling data of alternative method. The result of the case study is suggested as follows. First, the accurate soil exploration on the construction site should be preceded to prevent from tunneling stoppage and schedule delay. Second, the most suitable selection of the shield machine to the ground conditions of the construction site should be executed based on the investigation. Third, the best alternative method for boring of hard rock section is 'hard rock blasting after open cut and cover method'.

  • The back-filled soil of the New Incheon International Airport construction site was reclaimed with sea sand in near the Young-Jong island. The primary study was carried out from August 1993 to June 1997 to study soil amendment and to select salt resistance turfgrass species. This study dealt with low maintenance area that included most part of open space of airport site. The second experiment, from October 1996 to August 1998, focused on soil amendment and selection of turfgrass species for alongside runway where turf area was maintained. Through two previous studies, propagation methods with zoysiagrass were tested for alongside runway and surrounding areas at 1998. The study of construction methods with zoysiagrass, vegetative propagation showed better results on visual quality and cover rating compare with seeding propagation. However, significant different between vegetative and seeding propagation was not showed on visual quality and drought tolerance after one year of plot establishment. The cover rating by seeding construction methods reached in excess of 70% of limitation suggested by the Incheon International Airport Cooperation. Zoysia net and sprigging net methods were the most suitable where there requires rapid and high rate of ground cover. Seeding propagation should be acceptable to obtain a resonable cover rating where there allows relatively longer period of completion. Therefore, it should be possible to attain a proper rating of ground cover on the site of open space, alongside runway or areas similar to the New Incheon International Airport which is being built on dredged seashore sand. However, the methods of soil amendment, selecting salt tolerance species, and proper construction procedure should be considered at the a time.

  • By applying the Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) method, we calculated the weight of factors related to the selection of check dam sites and generated basic data related to the selection of the target site. As a result of the AHP classification, three evaluation items(Susceptibility, Vulnerability, and Constructability), 12 evaluation factors (Susceptibility 10, Vulnerability, and Constructability 1), and two-six evaluation criteria in each evaluation factor were selected. After calculating the relative importance by using the selected evaluation items, evaluation factors, and criteria, the vulnerability items such as medical facilities, facilities for the aged, educational facilities, and private homes were found to be higher than the other items. When the relative weight for deciding qualified sites was applied to the forest watersheds in the Gangwon region, 8,601 forest watersheds(35.2 % of the total forest watersheds) were found to be suitable for the installation of check dams.

  • This study has analyzed the scale, location, resource potential and feasibility of offshore wind farm scientifically and systematically based on the national wind map and GIS (Geographic Information System). For long-term wind power development, this study pursues siting strategy building, selection of target area and deciding development priority as well as the presenting a basis for assessment that are necessary for policy decision making by making theme layers under GIS environment. According to the analysis after organizing technological development by stages, even if only the most suitable sites are developed among the area of offshore wind farm candidates that can be developed under the current technological standard, it has been evaluated as being able to develop about 3 times of the wind power dissemination target until 2012. It is expected that about 5% of territorial water area can be developed in a short-term future while the southern offshore area possessing relatively favorable wind resource than the western offshore has been identified as the most feasible site. While about 23% of territorial water area has been classified as potential area for offshore wind farm development in a long-term future, even Jeju Island and offshore of Ulsan possessing excellent wind resource have been analyzed as feasible sites. The feasibility assessment of offshore wind farm development established by this study is expected to assist national strategy building for accomplishing the wind power dissemination target.
