  • The seventh curriculum put into operation gradually from first-year student in 2000 academic years of elementary school is subject to form and apply a step-wise level curriculum. Mathematics(correspond to junior high school course from 7th school year to 9th school year) should apply a step-wise level curriculum from 7th school year in 2001 academic years. Accordingly, mathematics teachers must diagnose actual conditions of educations, distribution tables of test results, step-wise teaching-studying programs etc. They also make proper plans suitable for actual situations of each school, prepare appropriate teaching materials and aids. I investigated preceding studies planned for preparation of putting into operation of a step-wise level curriculum. It showed that most of the studies were conducted at schools of medium or large scale and studies conducted at schools of small scale was rare. There were 113 small scale middle schools out of total 297 middle schools in Kyongsangbuk-do area in 2000. In this situation, I felt necessities of modeling of a step-wise level curriculum suitable for small scale schools. In this study, I modeled a step-wise level curriculum suitable for small scale middle schools, applied this model to 44 students in M middle school. I modeled two types of curriculum. One is a step-wise level curriculum that execute special supplementation process to students who do not complete 7-가 step successfully. The other is a step-wise level curriculum which is a regular model for a step-wise level of 7-나 step. I carried out an academic achievement test and intimacy test about mathematics before and after the application of the model. In this study, I found out that this model was very effective in academic achievement of students and helpful to declined students in scholarship. In the intimacy test, It was found out that most of the students gained confidence in mathematics, felt less anxiety, formed positive self consciousness. Therefore, I think that this model will be helpful to the application of the seventh step-wise level curriculum.

  • To develop an engineering-model of hydrogen-fueled ultra-micro combustor for Ultra Micro Gas Turbine(UMGT), we reviewed and summarized the problems in downsizing combustors, and determined a suitable burning method. The key issue to actualize practical ultra-micro combustors is reducing heat loss from the combustor to compressor and turbine. The reduction of heat loss was discussed from 3 different viewpoints; heat-insulation material, high-space-heating-rate combustion, and combustor-insolated gas turbine structure. Use of heat-insulation material induced the heat loss reduction to the surroundings. The heat loss ratio decreased substantially in reverse proportion to space heating rate, leading the idea that it could be reduced by burning at a high space heating rate. By settling the combustor insolated from the compressor and turbine, the heat transfer from the combustor to the compressor and turbine becomes smaller. For a selection of the suitable burning method, comparison between 2 burning methods, flat-flame and swirling-flamer types, was conducted. Synthetically the flat-flame burning method was confirmed to be more suitable for ultra-micro combustors than latter one. Base on them, an engineering-model of hydrogen-fueled flat-flame ultra-micro combustor was developed. To obtain high overall heat-insulation, heat-resistant and strength, the engineering-model combustor had triple layer structure with an advanced ceramic, a heat insulation material and a stainless steel. To simplify heat transfer issue in the combustor, it was isolated from the other components. Furthermore it was designed by considering structure, size, material, velocity, pressure loss and prevention of flashback.

  • In this study, the spatial variation mechanisms of large far-field earthquakes at engineering scales are first investigated with data from the 2008 Ms 8.0 Wenchuan earthquake. And a novel 'coherency cut-off frequency' is proposed to distinguish the spatial variations in ground motions in the low-frequency and high-frequency ranges. Then, a practical piecewise coherency model is developed to estimate and characterize the spatial variation in earthquake ground motions, including the effects of source-to-site distances, site conditions and neighboring topography on these variations. Four particular earthquake records from dense seismograph arrays are used to investigate values of the coherency cut-off frequency for different source-to-site distances. On the basis of this analysis, the model is established to simulate the spatial variations, whose parameters are suitable for both near- and far-field earthquake conditions. Simulations are conducted to validate the proposed model and method. The results show that compared to the existing models, the proposed model provides an effective method for simulating the spatial correlations of ground motions at local sites with known source-to-site distances.

  • There are a number of approaches in developing experimental models for depression, but there is no such thing as a best model for depressive syndrome. Animal models are subject to the obvious limitations inherent in the assumption that human psychopathology can be represented accurately in lower animals. Recently, the concern increasingly is to develop a variety of experimental paradigms in animals to study selected aspects of human psychopathology, and animal models should be understood as basically experimental preparations that are developed to carry out these objects. Therefore, a battery of a variety of animal models should be applied to permit detailed pathophysiological studies and to develop new antidepressant treatments. Animal models of depression basically consider behavioral isomorphism with the human depression a plus, but not a req-uirement, and the model behavior should be defined operationally in order to be reproduced reliably by other researchers and be responsive to those agents possessing demonstrated clinical efficacy in human depression. In conclusion, animal models of depression have played a significant role in elucidating pathophysiology of depression and developing current treatments for depression, but there is no single comprehensive model for depression until now. Each of the proposed animal model has its advantages and limitations. In other words, certain paradigms are suitable for studying certain phenomena, whereas others are more suitable for studying other aspects. The best model for depression depends upon what the question is.

  • Background: To refine facial transplantation techniques and achieve sound results, it is essential to develop a suitable animal model. Rat is a small animal and has many advantages over other animals that have been used as transplantation models. The purpose of this study was to describe a rat hemifacial transplantation model and to verify its convenience and reproducibility. Methods: Animals used in this study were Lewis rats (recipients) and Lewis-Brown Norway rats (donors). Nine transplantations were performed, requiring 18 animals. The hemifacial flap that included the ipsilateral ear was harvested based on the unilateral common carotid artery and external jugular vein and was transferred as a single unit. Cyclosporine A therapy was initiated 24 hours after transplantation and lasted for 2 weeks. Signs of rejection responses were evaluated daily. Results: The mean transplantation time was 1 hour 20 minutes. The anatomy of common carotid artery and external jugular vein was consistent, and the vessel size was appropriate for anastomosis. Six of nine allografts remained good viable without vascular problems at the conclusion of study (postoperative 2 weeks). Conclusion: The rat hemifacial transplantation model is suitable as a standard transplantation training model.

  • This paper focuses on modeling and predicting differential GPS corrections transmitted by marine radio-beacon systems using artificial neural networks. Various neural network structures with various training algorithms were examined, including Linear, Radial Biases, and Feedforward. Matlab Neural Network toolbox is used for this purpose. Data sets used in building the model are the transmitted pseudorange corrections and broadcast navigation message. Model design is passed through several stages, namely data collection, preprocessing, model building, and finally model validation. It is found that feedforward neural network with automated regularization is the most suitable for our data. In training the neural network, different approaches are used to take advantage of the pseudorange corrections history while taking into account the required time for prediction and storage limitations. Three data structures are considered in training the neural network, namely all round, compound, and average. Of the various data structures examined, it is found that the average data structure is the most suitable. It is shown that the developed model is capable of predicting the differential correction with an accuracy level comparable to that of beacon-transmitted real-time DGPS correction.

  • Optimal model following control scheme is to design the controller which makes the response of real system follow that of desirable model. This kind of design scheme is developed for first order system. We extends the scheme for second order system regarding the characteristics of mechanical second order system for vibration suppression of flexible structures. The model of mechanical second order system is obtained using suitable damping ratios and natural frequencies. Using this scheme, we can design the good controller which uses the characteristic of second order system. Numerical examples are presented which were used optimal model following control scheme.

  • For the purpose of the reduction of tile cost, a production/inventory model including the interference phenomenon was developed. By investigating the cause and the characteristics of the direct/indirect cost due to the interference phenomenon, a strategy for suitable production was developed. The developed model was quantitatively validated using an existing-EPQ model and the SIMAN package was used to simulate and animate the model. Consequently, it was presented that the total operating cost of the system could be decreased with tile proposed model.

  • Bacterial transport models were evaluated in this study to determine the suitable model at describing bacterial transport in saturated column experiments. Four models used in the evaluation were: advective-dispersive equation (ADE) + equilibrium sorption/retardation (ER) + kinetic reversible sorption (KR) (Model I), ADE + two-site sorption (Model 2), ADE + ER + kinetic irreversible sorption (KI) (Model 3), ADE + KR + KI (Model 4). Firstly, analyses were performed with the first experimental data, showing that Model 4 is appropriate for describing bacterial transport. Even if Model 1 and 2 fit well to the observed data, they have a defect of not including the irreversible sorption, which is directly related to mass loss of bacteria. Model 3 can not properly describe the tailing observed in the data. However, further analysis with the second data indicates that Model 4 can not describe retardation of bacteria, even if the sorption-related parameters are varied. Therefore, Model 4 is modified by incorporating retardation factor into the model, resulting in the improved fitting to the data. It indicates that the transport model, into which retardation, kinetic reversible sorption, and kinetic irreversible sorption are incorporated, is suitable at describing bacterial transport in saturated column experiments. It is expected that the selected transport model could be applied to properly analyze the bacterial transport in saturated porous media.
