An Experimental Study on Reducing Condensation in Marine Air Compressors

  • Compressed air has many uses on board ship, ranging from diesel engine starting to the cleaning of machinery during maintenance. In an effort to enhance the performance of the marine compressed air system, this work studied a way to reduce condensation from the air compressor via experiments. Especially more condensation is produced when the temperature at compressor outlets and the humidity of the air are higher. so in the research, drain production change has been observed by additionally installing the cooling fan on the suction portion of the air to air compressor and this is the method for reducing the compressed air drain that has passed through the compressor. For the result, it was verified that when the cooling fan was used, less drain was made where per hour it was 500.9ml of drain and the measured result after installing the cooling fan was that less drain was made. Other additional and various researches are needed including experiments like silica gel passing through the suction portion afterwards.

강우시 점토함유량에 따른 화강풍화토의 불포화 침투 특성 (Effect of Rainfall-Induced Infiltration on Unsaturated Weathered Soils with Varying Clay Contents)

  • 본 연구에서는 불포화 지반의 특성을 파악하고, 강우시 불포화 사면의 포화깊이에 따른 안정성을 파악하기 위해 국내 지반의 전형적인 화강풍화토(SW)에 점토(CH) 함유량 0∼30%을 변화시켜 가며 함수특성곡선 산정 실험을 수행하였다. 또한 강우로 인해 증가되는 포화깊이에 영향을 미치는 투수계수 및 suction을 구하기 위해 다짐도에 따른 강도정수 변화를 측정하였다. 침투로 인해 발생하는 지반내의 suction 변화를 점토함유량에 따라 모형 시험과 수치해석을 사용하여 분석하였다. 특히 불포화 지반에서 포화지반으로 바뀌는 과정에 잔류하는 wetting front suction은 점토함유량과 지반의 다짐도에 따라 민감하게 변화하였다. 강우시 침투수의 거동을 파악하기 위해 상용프로그램인 SEEP/W를 통해 침투해석을 수행하였고, 침투해석 결과를 연동시켜 포화깊이에 따른 사면의 안정성을 SLOPE/W 프로그램을 이용하여 포화깊이 및 점토함유량에 따라 비교ㆍ분석하였다. 해석결과를 통해 wetting front suction은 초기 포화깊이에 영향을 미치며 안전율이 변하는 것을 알 수 있다.

콤바인 선별실(選別室)의 기류선별(氣流選別)에 관한 연구(硏究) (Pneumatic Separation on Separating Unit of a Combine Harvester)

  • This study was attempted to investigate the pneumatic separation on separating unit of a combine harvester. The aerodynamic characteristics of threshed materials were analyzed by experiments. The air velocity distribution within the separation chamber was measured for various speeds of the winnower and suction fans to find out the operational and design conditions of the separating unit which would serve for reducing the grain loss from chaff outlet. The results of study arc summarized as follows: 1. Based on the separation curve of threshed materials analyzed, it was shown that three different kind. of materials-kernels, straw chaff, and leaf chaff were as a whole able to be separated pneumatically, regardless of varieties. However, a small amount of the separation grain loss may be expected to occur if the complete separation between kernels and straw chaff would be undertaken because some portion of their separation curve were overlapping. 2. The analysis of air velocity distribution showed that the separation chamber may be divided into two regions, the discharging and separating. The air velocity of the discharging region was 5-15 m/s and that of the separating region 2-5 m/s. 3. The air movement of the separation chamber may be a turbulence flow, being its speed became greater as it moves from the left to the right section of the separation chamber. The equi-speed line. of air flow had a steep gradient in between the discharging and the separation regions. The air velocity in the discharging region was much higher than the terminal velocity of kernels, because of which those kernels appearing in the region could be possibly exhausted as the grain loss from the chaff outlet. 4. The motion trajectory of threshed material in the separating region was dominantly affected by the winnower fan, on the other hand, its motion in the discharging region was affected by suction fan. 5. The grain loss from the chaff outlet was affected greatly by the winnower fan and the trace of kernel movement. It was observed that the optimum working speed to give minimum grain loss from chaff outlet for the combine tested should be maintained at 950~1,150 rpm for the winnower fan and 1,850 rpm for the suction fan. 6. It was shown that a large portion of grain loss from chaff outlet may occur when the kernels may bump against a portion of separation chamber wall and those kernels thus scattered into the discharging region were sucked by the suction fan. It was accordingly recommended that a new design of the wall of separation chamber so as to bump down kernels may be necessary to reduce grain loss from the chaff outlet.

  • The global and domestic market for offshore wind farm is expected to grow fast, and the design and installation of substructure and foundation is getting more important. As for the offshore wind farms located in the shallow(depth < 20m) water, the construction and installation of the substructure and foundation makes up about 1/4 ~1/3 of the offshore wind farm construction cost, and the portion is expected to increase because the turbine capacity is increasing from 2 ~ 3MW to 5MW or larger and the water depth of wind farms is also increasing over 30m. As a foundation for offshore wind turbine, the suction caisson foundation is being considered to be a highly competitive alternative to the conventional monopile or gravity based structure, because it has features suitable for the offshore construction such as quick installation, no heavy equipment for penetration and no hammering noise for driving. In order to study the installation behaviour of the suction caisson, laboratory tests were performed with sand. The pore water pressure and displacement were measured to analyze the suction pressure during penetration, the penetration speed and the amount of heaving.

  • Apatient, 51 years old woman, had suffered form headache and decrease of visual acuity. She had $3{\times}3cm$ sized giant aneurysm originated in cavernous and clinoid portion of left ICA(C4,C5) in the cerebral angiography. Before craniotomy, left CCA was exposed and 6F double lumen catheter was inserted in left ICA through the sheath. Pre-operative angiography was done. balloon catheter was positioned at the petrous portion of ICA. Eyebrow approach was done and giant aneurysm was exposed. The proximal blood flow was controlled with balloon dilatation and suction and decompression was tried, then multiple clips were applied. The loss of distal blood flow under intra-operative angiography was notified after clipping. The position of clips were repositioned to preserve blood flow & the rich flow was confirmed at distal part of clipping. In the post-operative cerebral angiography, the same finding was shown.

성인에서 기흉을 동반한 우측의 Bochdalek Hernia 1 (Right Bochdalek hernia with pneumothorax in adult)

  • Bochdalek hernia is a type of congenital diaphragmatic defect in the posterolateral portion of the diaphragm. The defect is usually Lt. sided due to protective effect of liver on right. Sex distribution is male preponderance [2:1] and it is diagnosed during neonate, mostly first 24 hours, due to severe respiratory distress. We experienced a rare case of old aged female patient with congenital Bochdalek hernia on Rt. side which was found incidentally during treatment of spontaneous pneumothorax of Rt. side. 17 year old female patient was admitted to CS department for chest discomfort on right and mild dyspnea with duration of 20 days. Under the diagnosis of spontaneous pneumothorax, Rt. closed thoracostomy and underwater sealed drainage with continuous suction was applied. On follow-up chest x-ray, poorly defined hazy increased density with multiple air-fluid levels in Rt. lower lung field and Lt. subphrenic free air were noted. So, Barium enema was done under the impression of Rt. diaphragmatic hernia, and nearly entire colon proximal to sigmoid was demonstrated in the Rt. hemithorax. Operation was done-for surgical repair of defected diaphragm through Rt. posterolateral thoracotomy. Operative findings were as follows; 1.Hypoplastic Rt. lung, esp. RML & RLL. 2.Nearly entirely intestines were herniated. 3.Diaphragmatic defect was located on posterolateral portion of the diaphragm, about 10x3cm in size with blunt smooth margin. 4.A large bleb on apex of RUL of lung. Herniated intestines were repaired into abdominal cavity manually and defect of diaphragm was repaired with No. I black silk interrupted sutures directly, and bleb was resected. Postoperative courses were uneventful and the patient was discharged with good condition on POD 14th.

수생형 통발(Utricularia japonica)의 흡입식 포충낭 형태 연구 (Morphological Study of the Suction Trap in Aquatic Utricularia japonica)

  • 본 연구에서는 뿌리 없이 분지된 줄기에서 기원한 포충낭으로 먹이를 빠르게 포획하는 수생형 통발 포충낭의 형태 구조적 특징을 전자현미경으로 연구하였다. 이들의 흡입식 포충낭에서는 입구 부위 및 덧문에 발달하는 구조들이 능동적 먹이 포획에 있어 다른 어느 구조보다도 중요한 기능을 수행할 수 있도록 분화되어 있다. 포충낭 입구에는 분지된 안테나 및 부속지들이 위치하고, 덧문 중앙 부위에는 4개의 감각모가 발달하여 먹이의 접촉자극을 감지하였다. 자극신호는 입구의 무병, 유병의 다양한 capitate형 분비모들이 소수성 점액물질을 분비하게 하여 이들을 피복하며 덧문을 닫아 먹이를 포획하였다. 덧문 안쪽의 threshold는 입구부분, pavement epithelium 층, 내부 구역으로 구분되며, 입구와 내부구역의 중간에 있는 pavement epithelium 층에는 소수성 큐티클이 피복된 밸름층이 형성되었다. 먹이가 포충낭의 내강으로 들어오면 내벽에 발달하는 2분지선과 4분지선들이 효소 등의 물질을 분비하여 이들을 소화 및 흡수하는 중요한 기능을 하였다. 이와 같이 통발의 흡입식 포충낭에서는 안테나, 감각모, 덧문, capitate형 분비모, 내벽의 분지선 등이 체계적이고 효율적인 방법으로 그 구조와 기능이 분화되어 식충의 기작을 수행하였다. 이후 포충낭의 분화발생을 생장단계별로 추적 연구하여 본 연구의 결과에 접목시키면 더 유용한 통발속 포충낭 구조 자료가 될 것이다.

Aerodynamics of High Speed Trains Passing by Each Other

  • A three-dimensional flow field induced by two trains passing by each other inside a tunnel is studied based on the numerical simulation of the three-dimensional compressible Euler/Navier-Stokes equations formulated in the finite difference approximation. Domain decomposition method with the FSA(fortified solution algorithm) interface scheme is used to treat this moving-body problem. The computed resluts show basic characteristic of the flow field created when two trains passing by each other. History of the pressure distributions and the aerodynamic forces acting on the trains are mailnly discussed. The results indicate that the phenomenon is complicated due to the interaction of the flow induced by two trains. Strong side force occurs between the two trains when the front portion of the opposite train passes by. It fluctuates rapidly and maximum suction force occurs when two trains are aligned side by side. The results also indicate the effectiveness of the present numerical method for moving boundary problems.

혼합 냉매를 이용한 극저온 J-T 냉동기 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study of The J-T Cryocooler with Mixed Refrigerant)

  • An experimental study on the Joule-Thomson cryocooler with the mixed refrigerant (MR) is described in this paper, J-T refrigeration experiment was performed with a single stage regular air-conditioning compressor The mixed refrigerant in the experiment was composed of 75% mol fraction of $N_2$. 30% moi fraction of CH$_4$. 30% moi fraction of $C_2$H$_{6}$. 10% mot fraction of $C_3$H$_{8}$ and 15% mot fraction of iso-C$_4$H$_{10}$. Oil mist in the MR stream could be eliminated completely by the glass microfiber filter. Since a single stage compressor that had been designed thor R22 is not appropriate for high Pressure ratio of the mixed refrigerant especially during the transient period. two modifications were incorporated to regular J-T refrigeration cycle. First. a Portion of the MR was by-passed at the inlet of the heat exchanger and transferred directly to 7he suction of the compressor in the modified system. Second, a buffer volume was Prepared to change the mass flow rate of refrigerant. The pressure ratio in J-T expansion device was relieved at the beginning of the operation due to the by-Pass scheme. but it gradually decreased during the transient Process as some of the MR component condensed at low temperature. The buffer volume at the suction side was used to increase the MR gas density in the system after the transient cool-down period. Form the experiment with the modified system, the refrigerator could reach the lowest temperature of -152$^{\circ}C$ without cooling load. and about -15$0^{\circ}C$ with 5 W of cooling load . . . .

오토캐스케이드 방식을 적용한 극저온 칠러 시스템의 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study of Cryochiller System Using Autocascade)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the performance of an autocascade refrigeration system using the refrigerant mixtures of R-134a(64${\sim}$72wt%), R-23(20${\sim}$25wt%) and R-14(8${\sim}$12wt%) as working fluids by experiment. The experimental apparatus consisted of a autocascade system with a compressor, condenser, evaporator, gas-liquid separator and cascade condenser, etc. Two main causes to this failure were considered as follows. First, the pressure ratio in the compressor was extremely increased at the beginning of the experiment. Second, the outlet temperature in compressor was higher than its limited temperature. For a stable operation of the compressor, a portion of the mixed refrigerant was by-passed at the inlet of the heat exchanger and transferred directly to the suction of the compressor in the modified system. The experimental parameters were changed weight of R-134a(1800g, 2800g), R-23(700, 800, 900g) and R-14(300, 400, 500g). The results showed that the best performance in case of R-134a of 2800g, R-23 of 900g and R-14 of 500g.
