  • For the safe operation of an air conditioner, the liquid car η 'over to compressors should be minimized and compressors should be operated in the specified region of suction and discharge pressures recommended by compressor manufactures. In this study, a capillary assisted tandem-type airconditioner was considered. A variable speed outdoor fan was used to control operating points of the system. Test results showed the possibilities to move system operating points to the safe region by controlling the speed of an outdoor fan.

터널화재시 환기방식에 따른 연기거동에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study of Smoke Movement in Tunnel Fires According to Ventilation Method)

  • In this study, reduced-scale experiments were conducted to analyze smoke movement in tunnel fires according to vepntilation method. The 1/20 scale experiments were carried out under the Froude scaling using gasoline pool fires ranging from 6.6 to 10 cm in diameter corresponding to total heat release rate from 0.714 to 2.5 kW. Temperatures near the ceiling were lowered by installing the vent, and much lowered by operating fan compared wiht tile case without vent. In case of forced ventilation, the exhaust fan was more effective than the intake fan. Vertical temperatures at the upper part of the tunnel were also lowered by installing the vent. But, when suction fan was operated, temperatures at the lower part of the tunnel were higher than that without vent.

  • Three-dimensional vortical flow and separated flow topology near the casing wall in an axial flow fan having two different tip clearances have been investigated by a Reynolds-averaged Wavier-Stokes (RANS) flow simulation. The simulation shows that the tip leakage vortex formed close to the leading edge of the blade tip on suction side grows in the streamwise direction. On the casing wall, a separation line is formed upstream of the leakage vortex center due to the interference between the leakage vortex and main flow. The reverse flow is observed between the separation line and the attachment line generated downstream of the trailing edge, and increased with enlarging tip clearance. The patterns of a leakage velocity vector including a leakage flow rate are also analyzed according to two tip clearances. It is noted that the understanding of the distribution of a limiting streamline on the casing wall is very important to grasp the characteristics of the vortical flow in the axial flow fan.

Design and Prediction of Three Dimensional Flows in a Low Speed Highly Loaded Axial Flow Fan

  • This paper describes the design to increase the blade loading factor of a low speed axial flow fan from normal 0.42 to highly loaded 0.55. A three-dimensional viscous solver is used to model the flows in the highly-loaded and normal loaded stages over its operation range. At the design point operation the static pressure rise can be increased by 20 percent with a deficit of efficiency by 0.3 percent. In the highly loaded fan stage, the rotor hub flow stalls, and separation vortex extends over the rotor hub region. The backflow, which occurs along the stator hub-suction surface, changes the exit flow from the prescribed axial direction. Results in this paper confirm that the limitation of the two dimensional diffusion does not affect primarily on the fan's performance. Highly loaded fan may have actually better performance than its two dimensional design. Three dimensional designing approaches may lead to better highly loaded fan with controlled rotor hub stall.

Suction과 blow fan을 이용한 연소기내의 부분 예혼합화염 연소 특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Investigation on Premixed Combustion Characteristics with Suction & Blow Fans)

  • We measured emission indices for $NO_x$, CO, temperature and radical characteristics for partially premixied flames formed by suction & blow fans air condition. At sufficiently high levels of partial premixing a double flame structure consisting of a rich premixed inner flame and outer diffusion flame was established similar to that previously observed in premixed flames. $NO_x$, Temperature. CO concentration were experimented with approximately constant air flow rate and decreasing equivalence ratios. The reduction in $NO_x$, and temperature at suction condition as compared with that for blow condition was approximately 20%, but on the contrary, CO emission was increased. In addition, We measured temperature distributions and found that temperature increased continuously with increasing partial premixing. We also estimated CH, $C_2$ radical intensity. CH and $C_2$ radicals provide evidence that, for the present measurement, CH and $C_2$ radicals intensity was associsated with their premixed component. And we observed stronger $C_2$, CH radicals intensity at suction conditions than blow conditions.

  • A vacuum cleaner is the widely used home equipment. However, it has a trouble with too much power consumption. Most losses occur at the centrifugal fan. To remedy this trouble the investigation of motor, which is the main component of vacuum cleaner, is required. The flow characteristics around the high-speed rotating centrifugal fan which is influenced by the very low inlet pressure is quite different from a commonly used fan. Hence it is quite difficult to analyze the flow by the experimental means or by the numerical simulation. In this research, it is aimed to improve the air-suction performance of a vacuum cleaner through the flow analysis around a motor. The efficiency of the centrifugal fan is affected by blade shape, blade number, blade pitch, etc. The influence of the shape of impeller on the flow is investigated in this study. The flow around the centrifugal fan is simulated by applying the moving mesh. To verify the validity of the computation results, the air flow rate and the pressure field to the cleaner is compared with the experimental data. All simulations are performed by using commercial code SC/Tetra. The calculated results show good agreement with the experimental ones and it is believed to be promising to use computational simulation in the improvement of the vacuum cleaner performance.

사이클론 전처리부를 지닌 터널집진차량의 집진효율 최적화 (Dust collection optimization of tunnel cleaning vehicle with cyclone-based prefilter)

  • 지하철 터널 내에 축적된 미세먼지와 초미세먼지를 제거하기 위해서는 새로운 형식의 분진흡입차량이 필요하다. 따라서 최근 개발된 분진흡입차는 초미세먼지 제거를 위한 흡입시스템과 사이클론형식의 전처리부 및 전기집진기를 장착하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 집진차량의 하부에 설치된 먼지 흡입시스템이 다양한 크기의 먼지입자를 효과적으로 흡입하고 처리하기 위해 사이클론형식의 전처리부가 포함된 집진시스템을 설계하고 집진효율을 ANSYS FLUENT의 전산유체해석을 통해 확인하였다. 흡입구와 사이클론형 프리필터가 연결된 격자모델을 기반으로 공기유동과 상차분모델(Discrete Phase Model)을 이용하여 다양한 입자의 크기와 종류 및 흡입팬의 용량에 따른 입자의 거동을 해석하였다. 다양한 입자의 크기와 종류, 흡입팬의 용량에 대해서 해석결과 집진차량의 운영속도 5km/h에서 미세먼지처리를 위해서는 흡입팬의 용량 $1500m^3/min$에서 흡입구가 궤도면으로부터 약 100mm이내일 때 $100{\mu}m$ 이하 크기의 먼지를 모두 처리할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 이러한 흡입구와 사이클론형식의 프리필터를 탑재한 터널집진차량은 후단에 설치된 전기집진기의 부하를 줄이고, 지하 터널내의 미세먼지와 초미세먼지의 제거에 효과적으로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

축류송풍기의 실속셀 거동에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on the Behavior of Stall Cell in an Axial Flow Fan)

  • Experimental study was conducted to reveal the flow mechanism under rotating stall in an axial flow fan. For this study unsteady pressure was measured using high frequency pressure transducers mounted on the casing wall of rotor passage and total pressure fields were measured at the rotor upstream and downstream. The measured pressure signal was analyzed by Wavelet Transform and Double Phase Locked Averaging Technique. From the result of unsteady pressure field of the casing wall, one period of rotating stall was divided into three zones and the flow characteristics on each zone were described in detail. The pressure field was also analyzed in terms of the pressure distribution along pressure side and suction side of blade tip. From the result of total pressure fields at inlet and outlet of the rotor, the useful information on the characteristics of the stall cell in radial direction was provided.

  • The large-eddy simulation(LES) was carried out to evaluate the drag and static pressure acting on the blade surface of a small-size axial fan(SSAF) under the condition of unsteady-state, incompressible fluid and three-dimensional coordination. The axial component of drag coefficient increases with the increase of operating load, but the radial components have negligible sizes regardless of operating loads. Otherwise, the static pressures acting on the blade surfaces of SSAF show different distributions around the operating point of D equivalent to the stall. Also, with the increase of operating load, the static pressures acting on the pressure and suction surfaces of blade concentrate at the tips and leading-edges as a whole.

  • A method of optimization design for the blade profile of a centrifugal impeller by controlling velocity distribution is presented, and a plenum fan is successfully designed. This method is based on the inner flow calculation inside the centrifugal impeller, and is related to the distribution of relative velocity. The results show that after optimization, the boundary layer separation on the suction surface has been inhibited and the stability of plenum fan is improved. The flow at the impeller outlet is also studied, and the jet-wake pattern at the impeller outlet is improved obviously by optimization. The calculation result shows that the static pressure and static pressure efficiency can be increased by 15.4% and 21.4% respectively.
