The influences of substrate temperature were studied when fabricating KLN thin film on amorphous substrate using an rf-magnetron sputtering method. Investigating the vaporization temperature of the each element, the excess ratio of target and the optimum deposition conditions were effectively selected when thin filmizing a material which have elements with large difference fo vaporization temperature. In order to compensate K and Li which have lower vaporization temperatures than Nb, KLN target of composition excess with K of 60% and Li of 30% was used. KLN thin film fabricated on Corning 1737 glass substrate had single KLN phase above 58$0^{\circ}C$ of substrate temperature and crystallized to c-axis direction. The optimum conditions were rf power of 100W, process pressure of 150mTorr, and substrate temperature of $600^{\circ}C$.
The (Ba, Sr)TiO$_3$(BST) thin films were fabricated on Pt/Ti/SiO$_2$/Si substrate by RF sputtering technique. The structural properties of the BST thin films were investigated with substrate temperature by XRD, SEM, EDS and AES depth profils. Increasing the substrate temperature, barium multi titanate phases were decreased. The BST thin film had a structure of perovskite type, and had peaks of (100), (200) at the substrate temperature of 50$0^{\circ}C$. When the BST thin films were deposited at the substrate temperature of 50$0^{\circ}C$, the composition ratio of Ba/sr was 52/48.
The Ba1-xSrxTiO3 thin films deposited on ITO-coated glass substrate at 55$0^{\circ}C$ by rf magnetron sputtering method have individual preferential orientations as a function of composition (X=0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1) due to the stress relief interactions among the intrinsic compressive stress, thermal tensile stress adn extrinsic compressive stress (compressive stress in case of BaTiO3(Tc=12$0^{\circ}C$) and Ba0.75Sr0.25TiO3(Tc=57$^{\circ}C$)). This behavior also appears on the (BaSr)TiO3 thin films (X=0.5) deposited on ITO-coated glass substrate at deposition temperature between 35$0^{\circ}C$ and 55$0^{\circ}C$. The composition of Ba1-xSrxTiO3 thin films deposited on ITO-coated glass substrate at 55$0^{\circ}C$ is close to stoichiometry (1.009~1.089 in A/B ratio), but the compositional deviation from a stoichiometry is larger as SrTiO3 is added. The morphology of Ba1-xSrxTiO3 thin films is very similar for over all substrate temperatures, and the roughness due to the differences of cluster size is the smallest at X=0.25.
To investigate the effects of substrate on transverse-rupture strength(TRS) and bonding strength between substrate and TiC layer coated by CVD, two kinds of substrate (substrate A:WC-9.5wt%Co-MC*[low C], substrate B: WC-6wt% Co-MC*[high C] were studied in terms of Cobalt and C contents respectively. For preparation of test samples the coating parameters of deposition time, deposition temperature and deposition pressure were varied. The result show that the carbon contents in substrates have greater effects on the TRS of the CVD TiC coated cemented carbide than Co contents in substrates.

Ternary B-C-N coatings were deposited on Si(100) wafer substrate from $B_4C$ target by RF magnetron sputtering technique in $Ar+N_2+CH_4$ gas mixture. In this work, the effect of reactant gas ratio, $CH_4/(N_2+CH_4)$ on the composition, kinds and amounts of bonding states comprising B-C-N coatings were investigated using two different bias power sources of continuous and unipolar DCs. In addition, the tribological properties of coatings were studied with the composition and bonding state of coating. It was found that the substrate bias power had an effect on chemical composition, and all of the obtained coatings were nearly amorphous. Main bonding states of coatings were revealed from FTIR analyses to be h-BN, C-C, C-N, and B-C. The amount of C-C bonging mainly increased with increase of the reactant gas ratio. From our studies, both C-C and h-BN bonding states improved the tribological properties but B-C one was found to be harmful on those. The best coating from tribological points of view was found to be $BC_{1.9}N_{2.3}$ composition.
In this work BN thin films were deposited on Si substrate by R. F. sputtering method at $200^{\circ}C$ and in Ar + $N_2$ mixed gas atmosphere. In order to investigate the effect of ion bombardment on substrate for c-BN bonding, substrate bias voltage was applied. The optimum substrate bias voltage for c-BN bonding was determined by FTIR analysis on specimens which were deposited with various bias voltages. Then BN thin film was deposited with this optimum condition and its phase, morphology, chemical composition, and refractive index were compared with those of BN film which was deposited without bias voltage. FTIR results showed that BN films deposited with substrate bias voltage were composed of mixed phases of c-BN and h-BN, while those deposited without bias voltage were h-BN only. When pure Ar gas was used for sputtering gas, BN films were delaminated easily from substrate in air, while when 10% $N_2$ gas was added to the sputtering gas, although c-BN specific infrared peak was reduced, delamination did not occur. GXRD and TEM results showed that BN films were amorphous phases regardless of substrate bias voltage, and AES results showed that the chemical compositions of B/N were about 1.7~1.8. The refractive index of BN film deposited with bias voltage was higher than that without bias voltage. The reason is believed to be the existence of c-BN bonding in BN film and the higher density of film that deposited with the substrate bias voltage.

ITO films were deposited on polyethylene terephthalate substrate by a dc reactive magnetron sputtering using rf bias without substrate heater and post-deposition thermal treatment. The dependency of rf substrate bias on plasma sputter processing was investigated to control energetic particles and improve ITO film properties. The substrate was applied negative rf bias voltage from 0 to -80 V. The composition of indium, tin, and oxygen atoms is strongly depended on the rf substrate bias. Oxygen deficiency is the highest at rf bias of -20 V. The electrical and optical properties of ITO films also are dominated obviously by negative rf bias.
From several industrial wastewaters, 14 bacterial strains which degrade benzene, toluene, o-xylene, m-xylene, or p-xylene (BTX) were obtained. These strains were characterized as to their species composition and the substrate range, kinetic parameters and the substrate interactions were investigated. Although BTX components have a similar chemical structure, isolated strains showed different substrate ranges and kinetic parameters. None of the strains could degrade all of BTX components and most of them showed an inhibition (Haldane) kinetics on BTX, BTX mixtures were removed under inhibitory substrate interactions with variation in the intensity of inhibition. For a complete degradation of BTX, a defined mixed culture containing three different types of patyways was constructed and all of the BTX components were simultaneously degraded with the totla removal rate of 225.69 mg/g biomass/h Judging from the results, the obtained mixed culture seems to be useful for the treatment of BTX-contaminated wastewater or groundwater as well as for the removal of BTX from the contaminated air stream.
