Comparative Analysis of domestic and foreign Convenience Facilities Laws for the Barrier-free Environment Construction (무장애 생활환경 구축을 위한 국내외 편의시설 관련법 비교분석)

  • Recently, the system that can eliminate discrimination and barrier to disabled, ensure the substantial independence of disabled and help participation in community of disabled is required. Therefore, the purpose of this study is 'construction of the Barrier-free environment' which members of societies included the disabled can live safely in the daily living environment. To achieve this result, this study is shown establishment and complementary direction of the policy related convenient facilities by comparing between domestic and international policy of the convenient facilities. The results of this study are as follows; Firstly, among the conflicting part between related laws and design standards shold be constantly supplemented. Secondly, policy to promote convenient in residential part is needed. Thirdly, composition of the organization that can support professional housing reconstruction is required. Fourthly, from early stage of policy making, not only opinion reflection of users but also maintenance of convenient facilities, continuous maintenance plan and making a policy for verification system is needed. Finally, when the revision of the existing policies or new policies undergo, 'Barrier-free perspective' should be considered.

Effect of Strut Waviness on Structural Performance of Wire-Woven Bulk Kagome Cores (WBK 의 구조적 특성에 대한 와이어 굴곡 효과)

  • Since the mechanical strength and stiffness of wire-woven bulk Kagome (BK) have been theoretically estimated by assuming that WBK is composed of straight struts, the analytical solutions occasionally give substantial errors as compared with the experimental results. The struts of WBK are helically formed, which results in errors in the estimations In this study, for accurately predicting the mechanical properties of WBK, the effects of waviness and brazed part are taken into account for estimating the strength and stiffness of WBK. The results are compared with the measured experimental results and the results estimated by a finite element analysis performed on a unit cell under periodic boundary conditions (PBC).

Clinical evaluation of Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure® (LANAP®) surgical treatment of chronic periodontitis: a retrospective case series of 1-year results in 22 consecutive patients

  • Purpose: Treatment for periodontitis has evolved over the years as new technologies have become available. Currently, lasers seem attractive as a treatment modality, but their effectiveness needs to be verified. The purpose of this project was to evaluate Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure® (LANAP®) surgery as a single treatment modality. Methods: As part of a mandatory training program for periodontists and other dentists, 22 consecutive patients diagnosed with moderate to severe periodontitis (probing depth [PD] up to 11 mm) were treated with the LANAP® surgical approach using a 1064-nm Nd:YAG laser as part of a multi-step protocol. Following single-session active therapy, they were entered into a maintenance program. Their clinical status was re-evaluated at 12-18 months following surgery. Results: All 22 patients completed the 12- to 18-month follow-up. PD, clinical attachment level, and furcation (FURC) showed substantial improvement. Recession was minimal (mean, 0.1 mm), while 93.5% of PD measurements were 3 mm or less at re-evaluation. Furthermore, 40% of grade 2 FURC closed clinically. Conclusions: Within the limits of this case series, LANAP® was found to be an effective, minimally invasive, laser surgical therapy for moderate to advanced periodontitis.

  • Antibiotic is one of the mainly prescribed drugs in dental office. The substantial part of all antibiotics used in dental office is given to patients without signs or symptoms of infection to prevent infections, and antibiotics became the most widely abused prescribed drugs on the basis of inappropriate indications, dosages and durations. Considering that antibiotics are one of the drugs that affect not only a single patient but also entire populations of individuals through their collective effects on microbial ecology, the importance of proper use of antimicrobial therapy can hardly be overemphasized. Therefore, the main considerations for antibiotic therapy in denial office were summarized here.

  • Signals of the short wave part of centimetre, millimetre and optic wave length ranges are being broadly used in the communication, location and remote sensing systems with space channels. In this case the presence of discrete non-uniform mediums like orbital debris, space dust and other discrete formations in the propagation channel may have substantial influence upon the characteristics of wave processes. and thus upon the data system quality. Mathematical models for studying the discrete non-uniform mediums effect on the characteristics of electromagnetic wave propagation are analyzed in this paper.

  • In a design-to-manufacturing environment, the product data is shared by various CAD/CAM/CAE systems with little integration or substantial data redundancy. The main purpose of this paper is to build a database containing all the features required for STEP-NC machining and to show how a STEP-NC repository can support the complete process for machining. A STEP-NC database schema has been constructed and several query functions have been built for the purpose of implementing the retrieving system of a STEP-NC database. The EXPRESS data model of ISO 14649 has been mapped to the database data definition language of the Oracle database. To apply the STEP-NC database to an industry example, the ISO 14649 part program has been stored into the STEP-NC database. To implement example scenarios, the sample query interface has been built.

  • As the application of real time expert systems has been expanded, the real time expert systems have become an integral part of the information society. Real time expert systems are viewed as a new paradigm to integrate real time problem solving and expert system technology. However, a substantial amount of work is still required to effectively handle a new and challenging opportunity for successful implementation of real time expert systems. In this article, the basic concepts and characteristics of real time expert systems are discussed. The article also presents, through the literature survey, the summary of real time expert systems applications and a class of tools, providing an enabling real time based expert system technology. Finally, the article discusses a set of requirements which real time expert systems must satisfy.

Unsteady heat transfer and thermal stress analysis of a gasoline engine cylinder head (실린더 헤드의 비정상 열전달 및 열응력 해석)

  • In this study are determined the unsteady temperature and thermal stress fields for a domestic 4-cylinder, 4-cycle gasoline engine cylinder head by the three-dimensional finite element method. A representative part of the cylinder head is modelled as a combination of hexahedron isoparametric elements, and the time-dependent temperature and the heat transfer coefficient of the gas are imposed as the thermal boundary conditions for the engine speeds of 500 rpm and 2000 rpm. The obtained results, which are represented graphically, indicate that the amplitudes of temperature fluctuation during a cycle are about 10.deg. C and 3.deg. C respectively on the surface of combustion chamber, and the maximum temperature fields occur at 30.deg. , 10.deg. respectively before the initiation of the exhaust stroke. Thermal stress fields due to non-uniform temperature distributions show that compressive stress is much larger than tensile stress throughout a cycle. It is also found that the compressive stress varies with substantial amplitude between the exhaust port and ignition plug hole, and the high tensile stress with small fluctuation occurs between exhaust port and the adjacent head bolt hole.

Protein Folding, Misfolding and Refolding of Therapeutic Proteins

  • Substantial progress has been made towards understanding the folding mechanisms of proteins in virto and in vivo even though the general rules governing such folding events remain unknown. This paper reviews current folding models along with experimental approaches used to elucidate the folding pathways. Protein misfolding is discussed in relation to disease states, such as amyloidosis, and the recent findings on the mechanism of converting normally soluble proteins into amyloid fibrils through the formation of intermediates provide an insight into understanding the pathogenesis of amyloid formation and possible cules for the development of therapeutic treatments. Finally, some commonly adopted refolding strategies developed over the part decade are summarized.

  • Single-balloon kyphoplasty via an extrapedicular approach has been reported to be effective because it requires less time than conventional two-balloon kyphoplasty and has comparable therapeutic efficacy. However, single-balloon kyphoplasty is not popular because the extrapedicular approach is believed to be complicated and unsuitable for the thoracolumbar and lumbar spine. The authors describe a standardized surgical technique that utilizes a far-lateral extrapedicular approach for single-balloon kyphoplasty, which can be performed in any part of the spine by physicians without substantial difficulty.
