This paper presents vector fields, three dimensional mean velocities, turbulent intensities, turbulent kinetic energy and Reynolds shear stresses measured in the X-Y plane of the gas swirl burner with a cone type baffle plate by using an X-type hot-wire probe. This experiment is carried out at the flow rates of 350 and 450ℓ/min which are equivalent to the combustion air flow rate necessary to release 15,000 kcal/hr in a gas furnace. The results show that the maximum axial mean velocity component exists around the narrow slits situated radially on the edge of a burner. Therefore, there is some entrainment of ambient air in the outer region of a burner. The maximum values of turbulent intensities occur around the narrow slits and in front of a burner up to X/R=1.5. Moreover, the turbulent intensity components show a relatively large value in the inner region due to the flow diffusion and mixing processes between the inclined baffle plate and the swirl vane. Consequently, the combustion reaction is expected to occur actively near these regions.
This paper presents three-dimensional mean velocities, turbulent intensities and Reynolds shear stresses measured in the Y-Z plane of the gas swirl burner with a cone type baffle plate by using an X-type hot-wire probe. This experiments is carried out at the flow rate of 450ℓ/min which is equivalent to the combustion air flow rate necessary to heat release 15,000 kcal/hr in a gas furnace. Mean velocities and turbulent intensities etc. show that their maximum values exist around the narrow slits situated radially on the edge of and in front of a burner. According to downstream regions, they have a peculiar shape like a starfish because the flows going out of the narrow slits and the swirl vanes of an inclined baffle plate diffuse and develop into inward and outward of a burner. The rotational flow due to the inclined flow velocity going out of swirl vanes of a cone type baffle plate seems to decrease the magnitudes of mean velocities V and W respectively by about 30% smaller than those of mean velocity U. The turbulent intensities have large values of 50%∼210% within the range of 0.5
In this study, the design of Free-Fall Simulator was carried out using concept of vertical wind tunnel. Free-Fall Simulator is not an experimental equipment but a training equipment. Therefore Free-Fall Simulator needs a large training section compared with test section of wind tunnel and has critical limit of height. These limits bring about the difficulty of design for a return passage. Due to small area ratio, the downstream flow of training section with high speed is not decelerated adequately to the fan section. High-speed flow leads to great losses in the small area ratio diffuser and corner. So design of diffusers and corners located between training section and fan section has a great effect on the Free-Fall Simulator performance. This study used an estimation method of subsonic wind tunnel performance. It considered each section of Free-Fall Simulator as an independent section. Therefore loss of one section didn't affect loss of other sections. Because losses of corner with vane and $1^{st}$ diffuser are most parts of overall Free-Fall Simulator, this study focused on the design of these sections.
The distinguishing features of flows at high angles of attacks are caused by the generation of free shear layers at sharp leading edges, by separation of the viscous layers from the surfaces of wings and bodies and by the flow in the wakes of the wings and bodies. In this study, systematic approach by PIV experimental method within a circulating water channel was adopted to study the fundamental characteristics of induced vortex generation, development and its breakdown appearing on a delta wing model with or without LEX in terms of four angles of attack($15^{\circ}$, $20^{\circ}$, $25^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$) and six measuring sections(30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%) of chord length. Distributions of time-averaged velocity vectors and vorticities over the delta wing model were compared along the chord length direction. Highly swept leading edge extension(LEX) applied to delta wings has greatly improved the subsonic maneuverability of contemporary fighters. High-speed CCD camera which made it possible to acquire serial images is able to get the detailed information about the flow characteristics occurred on the delta wing. Especially quantitative comparison of the maximum vorticity featuring the induced pressure distribution were also conducted to clarity the significance of the LEX existence.
The flight vehicles have cavities such as wheel wells and bomb bays. The flow around a cavity is characterized as unsteady flow because of the formation and dissipation of vortices due to the interaction between the freestream shear layer and cavity internal flow, the generation of shock and expansion waves. Resonance phenomena can damage the structures around the cavity and negatively affect aerodynamic performance and stability. The flow field is observed to oscillate in the "shear layer mode" with low aspect ratio. In the present study, numerical analysis was performed for cavity flows by the unsteady compressible three dimensional Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations with Wilcox's ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model. The flow field is observed to oscillate in the "shear layer mode" with large aspect ratio. Based on the SPL(Sound Pressure Level) analysis of the pressure variation at the cavity trailing edge, the dominant frequency was analyzed and compared with the results of Rossiter's formul. The aero-acoustic wave analyzed with CPD(Correlation of Pressure Distribution).

Highly sweep leading edge extensions(LEX) applied to delta wings have greatly improved the subsonic maneuverability of contemporary fighters. In this study, systematic approach by PIV experimental method within a circulating water channel was adopted to study the fundamental characteristics of induced vortex generation, development and its breakdown appearing on a delta wing model with or without LEX in terms of four angles of attack($15^{\circ},\;20^{\circ},\;25^{\circ},\;30^{\circ}$) and six measuring sections of chord length($30{\%},\;40{\%},\;50{\%},\;60{\%},\;70{\%},\;80{\%}$). Sideslip effect in case of the LEX was also studied for two sideslip(yaw) angles($5^{\circ},\;10^{\circ}$) at one angle of attack(20). Distribution of time-averaged velocity vectors and vorticity over the delta wing model were compared along the chord length direction. Quantitative comparison of the maximum vorticity featuring the induced pressure distribution were also conducted to clarify the significance of the LEX existence. Animation presentation in velocity distribution was also implemented to reveal the effect of LEX with wing vortex interaction.

A three-dimensional computation was conducted to make a study about effects of the inlet boundary layer thickness on the total pressure loss in a low-speed axial compressor operating at the design condition ($\phi=85\%$) and near stall condition($\phi=65\%$). Differences of the tip leakage flow and hub corner-stall induced by the inlet boundary layer thickness enable the loss distribution of total pressure along the span to be altered. At design condition, total pressure losses for two different inlet boundary layers are almost alike in the core flow region but the larger loss is generated at both hub and tip when the inlet boundary layer is thin. At the near stall condition, however, total pressure loss fer the thick inlet boundary layer is found to be greater than that for the thin inlet boundary layer on most of the span except the region near hub and casing. Total pressure loss is scrutinized through three major loss categories in a subsonic axial compressor such as profile loss, tip leakage loss and endwall loss using Denton's loss model, and effects of the inlet boundary layer thickness on the loss structure are analyzed in detail.
Spray and combustion characteristics of a dump-type ram-combustor equipped with a V-gutter flame holder were experimentally investigated. Spray penetrations with a change in airstream velocity, air stream temperature, and dynamic pressure ratio were measured to clarify the spray characteristics of a liquid jet injected into the subsonic vitiated airstream, which maintains a highly uniform velocity and temperature. An empirical equation was modified from Inamura's equation to compensate for experimental conditions. In the case of insufficient penetration, the flame in the ram-combustor was unstable, and vice versus in the case of sufficient penetration. When the flame holder was not equipped, the temperature at the center of the ram-combustor had a tendency to decrease due to the low penetration and insufficient mixing. Therefore, the temperature distribution was slanted to the low wall of the ram-combustor. These trends gradually disappeared as the length of the combustor became longer and the flame holder was equipped. Combustion efficiency increased when the length of the combustor was long and the flame holder was equipped. Especially, the effect of the flame holder was more dominant than that of the combustor length in light of combustion efficiency.

The characteristic of air-assist spray injected into subsonic crossflow were studied experimentally. External-mixing air assist injector of Orifice nozzle with L/d of 3 were tested with various air-liquid ratio. Shadowgraph photography was performed for spray visualization and trajectory of spray measurements. The detailed spray structure was characterized in terms of SMD, velocity, and volume flux, using PDPA. Experimental results indicate that penetration length was increased and spray distribution was accelerated by increasing air-liquid ratio.

Flow analysis in a turbine cascade by Euler or Navier-Stokes equation gives relatively accurate solution, however, those method require large computer memory or computing time. on contrast, the panel method, which is applied to incompressible and inviscid flow, provides fast and reasonal solution but the compressibility correction is required for a high air velocity case. In this paper, the compressibility corrected panel method was applied in order to find velocity distribution on turbine blades. Results showed that the calculated velocity in a turbine cascade by the compressibility corrected panel method gave good agreement with experimental results or the solution by finite volume method for compressible flow.
