A flow visualization near submerged nozzle of solid rocket motor was conducted by experiments. A numerical simulation was also performed to reveal detailed phenomena. Radial cold flow simulating hot gas was introduced by a porous grain model which was manufactured by perforated steel plates. The grain model was mounted in high-pressure chamber which has quartz glass at the top of the grain model. From the high-speed images, a rotating vortex was observed and the two type of counter-rotating momentums were generated in numerical results. The rotating momentum was generated at the fin-slot grain because of unbalance between high-velocity flow from slots and low-velocity flow from fin-bases. As a result, roll torques can be produced by the rotating vortex tube.
Advancements in silicon phase control (SCR) technologies provide an arc welding power supply that has the capability to allow the alteration of the Alternating Current (AC) welding output. These technologies provide a square wave output involving sixteen frequency selections and multiple balance selections. While an AC out put is known to minimize magnetic disturbances associate with Direct Current (DC), the potentials of a non-sinusoidal waveform have not been explored. The focus of the paper is to determine the effects that the frequency and balance of an AC wave form output will have upon a high speed Submerge Arc (SAW) application. The test matrix of the project includes welding .250" steel plate. Joint type is square groove with a travel speed of 65 IPM. Each of the weld parameters was held constant, only the frequency and/or balance were altered between welds. Each frequency/balance combination involved three-gap spacing. Upon completion of the welds the bead profiles were measured and recorded. A relationships/trends were observed with various frequency and balance values. Optimum frequency and balance values were found for the .250" square groove application which permit consistent weld sizing, ease of slag removal, and minimal plate distortion.
Submerged floating tunnel (SFT) is a type of tunnel which causes the tunnel segments to float in the water. When the SFTs are connected to the ground, the connection between the SFT and the subsea bored tunnel is fragile due to the difference in behavioral characteristics between the two types of tunnels. Therefore, special design and construction methods are needed to ensure the stability of the area around the connection. However, since previous research on the stability of the connection site has not been undertaken enough, the basic step necessitates the evaluation of ground behavior at the shore connection. In this study, the numerical analysis targeting the shore connection between the subsea bored tunnel and the SFT was simulated. The strain concentration at the shore connection was analyzed by numerical simulation and the effects of several factors were examined. The results showed the instability in the ground close to the shore connection due to the imbalance in the behavior of the two types of tunnels; the location of the strain concentration varies with different environmental and structural conditions. It is expected that the results from this study can be utilized in future studies to determine weak points in the shore connection between the submerged floating tunnel and the subsea bored tunnel, and devise methods to mitigate the risks.
The effects of wave energy focusing by a submerged berm type of structure is examined. The fundamental idea is based on the phenomenon of refraction by a lens-shaped crescent structure which results in the focusing of wave energy on the center line of the structure. The shape of the submerged structure is a complex curve combining circular with elliptical elements. Based on the design procedure, a special configuration of structure(termed herein as a triple crescent structure) is introduced. Next, some hydraulic model tests are performed to confirm the wave focusing effect in laboratory. In addition, in order to interpret the wave focusing performance behind the structure, a numerical procedure by the hybrid element method is used on the basis of the conventional mild slope equation but modified and extended to allow for steeper bottom slopes and higher curvature. The modified refraction and diffraction provide additional mechanism for wave height amplification and the maximum amplification for triple crescent structure is presented. It also allows for the possibility of wave energy scattering with the change of the incident wave direction. Comparisons with previous theoretical results involving a submerged crescent shape structure are described.
A new type of horizontal submerged break water or fixed structure to control waves near coastal area is introduced to focus wave energy before or behind it. Intentionally, the water depth near the structure is changed gradually to get a refraction and diffraction effect. The concentration of wave energy due to the structure was analyzed for the selected design of structure. The shape of the submerged structure in consideration is a circular combined with elliptical curve not to cause reflection of waves at the extreme edge of the structure but cause wave scattering. The direction of the structure against the incident wave is changed easily in the model Applying a regular wave train the following were examined. 1) whether a crescent plain submerged structure designed by the wave refraction theory can concentrate wave energy at a focal zone behind and before it without wave breaking phenomenon. 2) Location of maximum wave amplification factor in terms of the incident wave direction, wave period, etc. In any event the study would contribute to control waves near coastal area and to protect a beach from erosion without interruption of ocean view it is an useful study for the concentration of wave energy efficiently with the increase of wave height.
Purpose: This study was aimed to compare the survival and success rates, and long-term crestal bone loss according to the use of 2 connection types of dental implants (submerged-USII and non-submerged-SSII; Osstem $Implant^{(R)}$) by analyzing the change in alveolar bone height after 1 year under load and during final follow-up period. Materials and Methods: Between December 2004 and August 2008, patients with two types of Osstem implants (USII and SSII) were retrieved retrospectively. A total of 92 patients with 284 implants (USII=60, SSII=224) was finally selected. Their mean follow-up period was 7.5 years. The mesial and distal alveolar crestal bone changes were measured using radiographic images and the average was calculated at 1 year after loading and during final follow-up period. Result: Among the 284 implants, 4 USII and 7 SSII implants were removed, indicating 93.3% and 96.9% survival rates. Of the survived implants, mean crestal bone loss 1 year after loading was 0.39 mm for USII and 0.19 mm for SSII (P=0.018). During the final follow-up, mean crestal bone loss was 0.63 mm and 0.35 mm for USII and SSII, respectively, without statistical significance (P=0.092). According to the criteria for the success and failure of the implant by Albreksson and colleagues, final success rate was estimated as 86.7% for USII and 91.5% for SSII, respectively. Conclusion At 1 year after loading, the average crestal bone loss was significantly different between USII and SSII; however, both types met the criteria for implant success. During the final follow-up, both groups showed insignificant bone resorption patterns and did not show any pathological clinical symptoms. Therefore, both implants exhibited high long-term stability.
In this paper, we reviewed the degradation factors of diazinon which was known to be easily degraded by soil microorganisms and lost of its activity. Under submerged soil condition, the contribution of microorganisms to diazinon degradation was about 40% and these microorganisms preferred soil humus as substrates to diazinon itself. The effect of monooxygenase activity in submerged soil was more important than esterase activity on diazinon degradation and these enzymes were inhibited by several chemicals such as piperonyl butoxide(PBO), EPN and tricyclazole. From these results, new formulation type of diazinon (PBO and triphenyl phosphate were added to commercial diazinon formulation by 0.1% respectively.) and diazinon mixture formulation (diazinon was mixed with EPN, tricyclazole and carbofuran in equal amount) were prepared. The new formulation type of diazinon showed better insecticidal activity by 12% and more delayed diazinon degradation in ten days than commercial diazinon.
The purpose of this study is to observe a specific removal efficiency of synthethetic wastewater which is managed by upflow submerged type at porous media which was sinteringed on a comparative low temperature 600$\circ$C, was annexed slag and humus soil with main material kaolinite. Observing removal efficiency quality of each media, a mixed media of kaolinite and humus soil by gravity percent 60, 40% respectively showed the most excellent removal utility, and applied predictive models for suspended culture kinetics without consideration diffusion limitation, and when analyzed kinetic which had been processed by this study the removal efficiency accompanied by carbon, nitrogen, phosphorous volumetric loading rate variation standed for a comparative large change rate 61~71%, it means the selection of the most proper load factor had a great effect on the highly removal efficiency, yield coefficient(Y) and specific microbial attach equation showed 1.53 mgVSS/mgCOD, $m_p=10039.4\times ((S_0)/(6.75+S_0))$ repectively.

We show three-dimensional distribution of voltages resulted from the leakage current originated from outdoor electrical facilities in a submerged area. In case these facilities are grounded by the neutral line multiple grounding method, the existence of ungrounded electrical facilities can cause a disastrous effect on near-by passengers. In order to investigate this situation, we installed a real-scale test field for the experiment type I (for the leakage current path between a enclosure grounded electrical facility and another enclosure grounded one), and that for the experiment type II (for the leakage current path between a enclosure grounded electrical facility and another ungrounded one). For both cases, we carried out three-dimensional monitoring of the voltage distribution while varying additional conditions such as the exposure of the underground cables and the finishing of cable connection part. The result shows that a disastrous effect on human safety can arise from the leakage current without a pertinent measure for the construction and maintenance of outdoor electrical facilities.
In this study, two types of wetland plants, Eichhornia crassipes (a floating plant) and Ceratophyllum demersum (a submerged plant) were introduced to wetland mesocosms to understand how the water properties of wetlands such as pH, dissolved oxygen content, water temperature, oxidation reduction potential, and nutrient concentrations are affected by different types of wetland plant. The floating plant lives on the water surface and can block light penetration; it exhibited the lowest water temperature and temperature difference between lower and upper layers. After the addition of contaminants, the dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration decreased abruptly but recovered continuously in all mesocosms; especially the submerged plants, which photosynthesize in water, showed the largest increases in DO and diel periodicity DO, as well as in pH value. The oxidation-reduction potential in both water and sediment were affected by the presence of wetland plants and plant type and the results suggest that various aspects of wetland biogeochemistry are affected by the presence and type of wetland plants. The total nitrogen and phosphorous concentrations in water decreased in the following order: Water only < Water + Soil < Floating Plants < Submerged Plants. Although both floating and submerged plants can control algal concentrations, the effect was more prominent for floating plants.
