The purpose of this study was to investigate and compare flow discharges of rectangular, V-notch and trapezoidal type of cutthrooat flumes, and the published data for trapezoidal parshall flumes. And the trapezoidal cutthroat flumes were also compared in their accuracy of discharge measurements for various convergence ratios in the inlet section and divergence ratios in the outlet section. Five flumes were studied, and all the flumes were 45cm long with flat-bottom and were made of well-finished transparent acryl plate of 3mm thickness. One rectangular, one V-notch and three trapezoidal types were numbered 1 to 5 as shown in Fig. III-1. The measured depth of water was ranged from 5 to 20cm. The results obtained in this study are summarized as follows: 1. The general discharge equations for tested prototypes are listed for free flow in Table IV-1 and for submergence flow in Table IV-4. 2. In both free and submerged flow, the accuracy of the discharge formula obtained by this test is highly significant at 1% level as shown in Table IV-2 and Table IV-6. The accuracy of disharges measured depends upon the convergence and divergence ratios in the trapezoidal types: the less the ratios of convergence as well as divergence, the lower the accuracy. 3. Submergence ratios tend to increase in the order of flume number except flume No. 4. This implies that trapezoidal cutthroat flumes are more acceptable than rectangular or V-notch ones for free flow. 4. The transition submergence for the trapezoidal Parshall flumes ranges from 80-85 percent, which is slightly higher than the tested flume. However, the trapezoidal cutthroat flume No. 5 has higher transition submergence ratio, ranging from 73-78 percent, than other trapezoidal ones. The difference between the trapezoidal Parshall flumes and the trapezoidal cutthroat flumes in transition submergence seems small enough to be ignored in their field use. 5. Trapezoidal cutthroat flume is simple and economical to construct in existing openchannels whose shapes are generally trapezoidal. In order to obtain the best rating accuracy, flume No. 3 among the tested trapezoidal types is recommended, because it shows the highest accuracy for both free and submerged flow.

This study described the stability of riprap, which was examined by a two-dimensional physical model of a scattered riprap submarine breakwater. Artificial reef structures made of scattered riprap are used like artificial intertidal zone structures as waterfront seaside structures. To prevent topography change in such an artificial intertidal zone the energy is reduced at the scattered riprap submarine breakwater by intercepting high waves. The breaking waves are converted into flow on the front surface slope of the submarine breakwater, which follows the upper part of the artificial intertidal zone. Because of this phenomenon of resisting water flow, it is very important to calculate the required weight of the riprap to maintain its stability. The results of a physical model can be abstracted as shown below. First, distribute the wave breaking types occurring on the front surface slope of the submarine breakwater and arrange it in relation to the movement of riprap. Second, using the hydraulic phenomenon that occurs at the depth of the scattered riprap submarine breakwater, propose a calculation formula for the velocity distribution showing the influence on the stability of the riprap. Third, propose and compare values, which can be obtained by experiments and calculations for riprap stability on the front surface of the artificial intertidal zone. Fourth, calculate the required weight for riprap stability.
Alveolar bone changes after immediate loading on implants up to one year were observed by means of standard intraoral X-ray measurement which were taken at 3 month intervals. At the same time, bone density changes were observed according to digital subtraction method which is a becoming a more and more promising diagnostic tool for implants. Following results were obtained ; 1. There was no significant difference in the amount of alveolar bone loss implant type, sex and implant diameter, but there was difference according to case selection. In fully bone anchored prostheses cases, bone loss was $1.16{\pm}0.15m$ whereas, in partial edentulous cases, it was $1.84{\pm}0.08mm$. 2. Alveolar bone loss after immediate loading showed a higher degree of bone loss than after submerged loading in the initial three months. But there were no significant difference at the 12th month. 3. According to the one year bone density change observation at the alveolar bone surrounding the implant, significant change was observed vertically, whereas no significant change could observed horizontally. According to the above mentioned results, we can conclude that immediate loading of implants results in a higher degree of alveolar bone loss in one year than submerged loading. But since alveolar bone loss rate decreases to a reasonable rate after the initial 3 months of rapid bone loss, immediate loading of implants seems to be an acceptable treatment modality for patients with good bone conditions. Fully bone anchored cases showed an favorable outcome, but partial edentulous cases showed more bony resorption. So this cases considered in case selections. Bone density changes observation in the study was performed for only one year therefore a more longitudinal observation may be studied.

SAW(Submerged Arc Welding) process is generally applied to a wide range of welding area in the fabrication of steel structure. This process has a good characteristic properties such as the high quality of welds and the high deposition rates, but in case of welding on a thick steel plate, it also has higher cold crack susceptibility than that of a thin steel plate. The purpose of this research is to find the main factor of crack generation and clarify the countermeasure for crack prevention, and then establish the optimum welding condition in a heavy thick steel plate. The results of this study are as follows, 1. The cause of crack generation is found the diffusible hydrogen penetrated into weld metal by decomposition of the remained moisture in SAW flux during welding. 2. For the removal of diffusible hydrogen, the raw materials of SAW flux are to be dehydrated at the high temperature in the initial manufacturing stage. 3. Mechanical properties of weld metal welded with the dehydrated SAW flux were evaluated very excellent, furthermore the weld metal has been proved to have low diffusible hydrogen content with 3.1ml /100g. 4. The weldability and quality welded with thick steel plates were improved by establishing the new optimum welding condition.
In order to plan out the Daegu G membrane filtration water treatment plant, water quantity, water quality and process stability were evaluated using the field pilot-scale tests, during the six months of continuous operation, including low water temperature period. The field model experiments, which were carried out according to the Installation Criteria of Ministry of Environment, consisted of two series : series 1 - water quality verification, and series 2 - membrane process evaluation. The process water quality met all drinking water standards with less than 0.03 NTU. Moreover, process operation showed a stable membrane pressure with 99% of recovery ratio. This shows that the tests were properly designed in terms of the influence of water loading and temperature. In conclusion, the purpose of this study is to establish core technology for advanced drinking water treatment, through on-going accumulation of engineering and construction know-how.

Watershed area can be submerged due to constructions and management of dams, and these change can impact not only on ecosystem and environment of river basin area but also on local climate. This study is conducted to construct and classify climate zones of Andong Dam watershed where the area is submerged due to the construction of the dam. By applying Principal Components Analysis (PCA) and Getis-Ord $Gi^*$ statistics, three climate zones were classified for the result. Each zone was then analyzed and validated with climatic and geological features including topography, land cover, and forest type map. As a result of the analysis, there was a difference in temperature, elevation, precipitation and tree species distribution among the zones. Also, an analysis of land cover map showed that there were more agricultural land near Andong Reservoir. This study on the climatic classification is considered to be useful as the basis for decision-making or policy enforcement regarding ecosystem, environmental management or climate change response.

Micro hydropower is a readily available renewable energy source that can be harvested utilizing hydrokinetic turbines from shallow water canals, irrigation and industrial channel flows, and run-off river stream flows. These sources generally have low head (<1 m) and low velocity which makes it difficult to harvest energy using conventional turbines. A horizontal-axis screw turbine was designed and numerically tested to extract power from such low-head water sources. The 3-bladed screw-type turbine is placed horizontally perpendicular to the incoming flow, partially submerged in a narrow water channel at no-head condition. The turbine hydraulic performances were studied using Computational Fluid Dynamics models. Turbine design parameters such as the shroud diameter, the hub-to-shroud ratios, and the submerged depths were obtained through a steady-state parametric study. The resulting turbine configuration was then tested by solving the unsteady multiphase free-surface equations mimicking an actual open channel flow scenario. The turbine performance in the shallow channel were studied for various Tip Speed Ratios (TSR). The highest power coefficient was obtained at a TSR of 0.3. The turbine was then scaled-up to test its performance on a real site condition at a head of 0.3 m. The highest power coefficient obtained was 0.18. Several losses were observed in the 3-bladed turbine design and to minimize losses, the number of blades were increased to five. The power coefficient improved by 236% for a 5-bladed screw turbine. The fluid losses were minimized by increasing the blade surface area submerged in water. The turbine performance was increased by 74.4% after dipping the turbine to a bottom wall clearance of 30 cm from 60 cm. The final output of the novel horizontal-axis screw turbine showed a 2.83 kW power output at a power coefficient of 0.63. The turbine is expected to produce 18,744 kWh/year of electricity. The design feasibility test of the turbine showed promising results to harvest energy from small hydropower sources.
In order to decrease the high costs of membrane process, we have tried to develop two alternatives to membrane; a cartridge type filter and a metal membrane were tested for the high permeation flux with low cost and low energy. This research mainly focused on three points; 1) operation with high permeation flux by using of a cartridge type filter and a metal membrane, 2) removals of the filterable organic materials (FOC) by pretreatments for the membrane fouling control, and 3) advanced wastewater treatment by SMBR process with intermittent aeration and high MLSS. An Intermittently aerated membrane bioreactor using a submerged micro filter (cartridge type) was applied in laboratory scale for the advanced wastewater treatment. To minimize membrane fouling, intermittent aeration was applied inside of the filter with $3.0kg_f/cm^2$. The experiments was conducted for 6 months with three different HRTs (8, 10, 12 hr) and high MLSS of 6,000 and 10,000mg/L. The filtration process could be operated up to 50 days with permeation flux of 500LMH. Regardless of the operating conditions, more than 95% of COD, BOD and SS were removed. Fast and complete nitrification was accomplished, and denitrification was appeared to be the rate-limiting step. More than 75% T-N could be removed due to the endogenous denitrification. T-P removal efficiency was increased to 80% under the condition of MLSS 10,000mg/L.
To examine factors affecting feeding efficiency of grey herons (Ardea cinerea), the foraging behavior was studied at a reservoir in Asan city, Chungcheongnam-do, South Korea during the breeding seasons (from April to July) of 2006 and 2007. Four factors (age of foraging birds, time of day, breeding stage, and microhabitat type) were analyzed. Adults were more efficient foragers than recently fledged juveniles, and they had a higher success rate than juveniles. About half of the adults caught large prey, whereas most juveniles caught only small prey. Adult grey herons had different feeding efficiency according to the breeding stage. Pecking and capture rates were high during the late period (fledging stage), and biomass intake rates were high during the early (incubating stage) and late periods. However, time of day had no significant effect on foraging activity of adult grey herons. Feeding activities of adult grey herons also showed significant variation among microhabitat types. Pecking and capture rates were higher in the submerged plants area, but capture success rate and biomass intake rate were not different according to microhabitat type.

A better flow condition for the intake of pump is provided by the sump pump that connects the forebay to the intake of the pump station. If the suction sump is improperly shaped or sized, air-entraining vortices or submerged vortices may develop. These phenomena may greatly affect pump operation if vortices become sufficiently large. Moreover, any remaining vortices in the pump flow passage may result in an increase in the noise and vibration of the pump. Therefore, the vortices in the pump flow passage must be reduced to achieve good pump sump station performance. In this study, the effect of suction pipe leaning angle on the pump sump's internal flow is investigated. Additionally, a pipe type with an elbow shape is investigated. The results show that the air entraining vortices occur under the condition of a water level ratio H/D = 1.31 for each suction pipe type.
