Many marine wastes such as seaweeds are casted aside at the seasides. So, the objective of this study is to apply the marine wastes to the concrete. To this end, mortar and concrete tests with the marine wastes have been conducted. The results of the present mortar and concrete tests indicate that the mortar and concrete with marine wastes admixtures exhibits very low permeability. The present study provides a firm base for the use of very low permeable concrete and the application of the marine structures and the submerged structures.
The characteristics of tidal circulation with the flow-control structures using the three-dimensional numerical model (POM, Princeton Ocean Model) of Chinhae Bay, Korea were investigated. To confirm th efficiencies of flow-control structures, the training wall and submerged training wall were constructed at the mouth and narrow channel in Chinhae Bay. On the basis of the present investigation, the tidal circulation induced by the construction of flow-control structures could enhance the water exchange improvement appropriately. And, th training wall at the central is more dominated than the other structures for the efficient of water exchange. The sites and types of structure and flow patterns seem to be very sensitive in tidal simulation and changes in flow fields.

In offshore floating structures, the viscous mean drift force due to drag is considered a design part that has not been considered until recently. In this paper, an analytical solution for the viscous mean drift forces on a floating vertical cylinder considering the waves and currents was obtained. The area was considered by dividing it into a splash zone above the free surface and a submerged zone below the free surface. In the case of waves, only the splash zone was considered; in the case of waves and currents, equations were obtained in both the splash zone and the submerged zone. The RAO results of previous studies were used to compare the calculated results with the drift forces acting on the fixed cylinder. Except for the case in only waves in the splash zone, the viscous mean drift force acting on the floating cylinder was larger than the drift force acting on the relatively fixed cylinder in most frequencies. In particular, the increase was greater when the currents were considered to be more important. Therefore, these results provide the inference for the viscous drift force due to drag in the design of floating offshore structures.

When the seabed around and under gravity structures such as submerged breakwater is exposed to a large wave action long period, the excess pore pressure is generated significantly due to pore volume change associated with rearrangement soil grains. This effect leads a seabed liquefaction around and under structures as a result from decrease in the effective stress, and the possibility of structure failure is increased eventually. These facts shown above have been investigated in the previous studies related to regular and irregular waves. This study suggested a concrete mat for preventing the seabed liquefaction near the submerged breakwater. The concrete mat was mainly used as a countermeasure for scouring protection in riverbed. According to installation of the concrete mattress, the time and spatial series of the deformation of submerged breakwater, the pore water pressure, and the pore water pressure ratio in the seabed were investigated. Their results were also compared with those of the seabed unprotected with the concrete mat. The results presented were confirmed that the liquefaction potential of seabed under the concrete mattress is significantly reduced under regular wave field.

In order to protect coastal facilities mainly from wave and current actions, the self-locking eco blocks constituting elements of protecting shore structures against scouring were designed. These blocks are adapted to the sloping bottom, coastal dunes, and submerged coastal pipelines, counteracting the destructive and erosive impulse action. A series of laboratory experiments has been conducted to investigate the reflection of water waves over and against a train of protruded or submerged shore structures and compare the reflecting capabilities of incident waves including wave forces. In this study the hydraulic model experiment was conducted to identify the performance of newly designed water affinity eco blocks to keep the coast slope and bottom mound from scouring by reduction of the wave reflection and to convince stability of the block placement. Revised design of each block element was also tested for field conditions. From the result of experiments, the field applicability of the developed blocks and placement was discussed afterward.
A study, using potential water wave theory, is conducted on the oblique water wave motion over two fixed submerged rectangular blocks (breakwaters) placed over a finite step bottom. We have considered infinite and semi-infinite fluid domains. In both domains, the Fourier expansion method is employed to obtain the velocity potentials explicitly in terms of the infinite Fourier series. The unknown coefficients appearing in the velocity potentials are determined by the eigenfunction expansion matching method at the interfaces. The derived velocity potentials are used to compute the hydrodynamic horizontal and vertical forces acting on the submerged blocks for different values of block thickness, gap spacing between the two blocks, and submergence depth of the upper block from the mean free surface. In addition, the wave load on the vertical wall is computed in the case of the semi-infinite fluid domain for different values of blocks width and the incident wave angle. It is observed that the amplitudes of hydrodynamic forces are negligible for larger values of the wavenumber. Furthermore, the upper block experiences a higher hydrodynamic force than the lower block, regardless of the gap spacing, submergence depth, and block thickness.

In offshore structures, the mean viscous drift force due to drag is considered to be a design part that has not been considered until recently. In particular, it is most important to calculate the drift force acting on a vertical cylinder considering both waves and currents in the low frequency region. This paper presents a process for deriving analytical solutions for the drift forces acting on a fixed vertical cylinder considering waves and currents. The area of the cylinder was considered by dividing it into a splash zone above the free surface and a submerged zone below the free surface. The presence of waves is considered only in the Splash Zone, and in the case of waves and currents, the equations were obtained for both the splash and submerged zones. The results show that drift forces occur due to the significant viscous effects in both the splash zone and the submerged zone. Therefore, the analytical solutions derived in this study can be used to calculate the drift force using the given design variables and form a theoretical basis for judging whether the magnitude of the drift force in each case has a dominant influence within a specific physical range.
A non-contact, in-situ and non-invasive technique for health monitoring of submerged fiber reinforced polymers (FRP) laminates has been developed using ultrasonic guided waves. A pair of mobile transducers at specific angles of incidence to the submerged FRP specimen was used to excite Lamb wave modes. Lamb wave modes were used for comprehensive inspection of various types of manufacturing defects like air gaps and missing epoxy, introduced during manufacturing of FRP using Vacuum Assisted Resin Infusion Molding (VARIM). Further service induced damages like notches and surface defects were also studied and evaluated using guided waves. Quantitative evaluation of transmitted ultrasonic signal in defect ridden FRPs $vis-{\grave{a}}-vis$ healthy signal has been used to relate the extent of damage in FRPs. The developed technique has the potential to develop into a quick, real time health monitoring tool for judging the service worthiness of FRPs.

For reinforced concrete structures located in a sea environment, the Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) is mostly used as a signature method to prevent steel corrosion. For this research, specimens to which the ICCP is applied were manufactured under the assumption of two following cases the specimens are exposed to various salt damage environments (submerged zone, tidal zone), and deteriorative factors (crack) occur in concrete. For the specimens manufactured, an enhancement experiment for deterioration was conducted through regular cycle change under the temperature between 15 ~ 70℃ with 70 ~ 90% humidity. Afterwards, the method effect was verified through a half-cell method and application of the ICCP derived from salt damage environments was investigated.

In order to suggest the methodology for achieving anti-vortex device within multi pump intake well, CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulation were conducted for two alternative suggestions. Multi-intake sump model with anti-vortex device basins were designed and the characteristics of submerged vortex were investigated in the flow field by numerical simulation. From the results of simulations, to install the horizontal plate and vertical cross plates within basins were effective for preventing air-induction vortex.
