LES를 이용한 몰드 내 탕면 변동 거동 수치해석 - 노즐 형상에 따른 진동 주파수 분석 (Large Eddy Simulation of Fluctuating Mold Level - Effects of Nozzle Geometry on Oscillation Frequency)

  • High speed casting technology is an attractive method to increase the productivity of continuous casting. However, high speed casting causes flow instability of molten steel in a mold. In this study, Large Eddy Simulation (LES) has been performed to identify the characteristics of mold flow for various shapes of submerged entry nozzles. The LES code has been newly developed to efficiently compute the two-phase flow by using the Fractional Step Method (FSM) combined with the Volume of Fluid (VOF) method. The Immersed Boundary Method was used to implement the shape of the submerged entry nozzle. Three cases of discharge angle of the submerged entry nozzle were computed and compared. The current results shed light on improving shape design of a submerged entry nozzle.

ZrO2-C계 침지노즐 제조시 상대습도에 따른 바인더용 페놀수지의 영향 (Effect of Phenolic Resin According to Relative Humidity on Submerged Entry Nozzle with ZrO2-C System in Fabrication Process)

  • The thermodynamic behavior of phenolic resin was investigated to verify the relation between the properties of porous ceramics with $ZrO_2$-C system for submerged entry nozzle and the characteristics of phenolic resin with various relative humidity. The green and the sintered density were decreased between 25% and 50% relative humidity, whereas they were gradually enhanced above 50% relative humidity. The highest value of apparent porosity was 20.1% and the minimum compressive strength was 69MPa in the specimen using the powder exposed to 50% relative humidity. As a result of thermal analysis for phenolic resin, the shift of endothermic peak to low temperature and the reduction of exothermic peak were observed, and the peaks corresponded to melting and curing of phenolic resin, respectively. The melting and the curing of phenolic resin generate the change of green density, and it can affect the properties of submerged entry nozzle.

  • 박슬라브 연주용 침지노즐 슬래그 라인부위의 ZrO2-C의 사용중 거동을 조사한 결과 지르코니아 골재의 탈안정화에 의한 조직열화는 예열단계에서 거의 완료되고 사용된 원료의 순도 및 첨가제인 금속 Si의 함량에 의해 크게 좌우되었다. 주조중에는 예열단계에서 발생된 입계로 몰드 파우더로부터 환원된 성분이 축적되어 입계가 더욱 넓어지면서 조직열화가 심화되었으나 환원성분에 의한 추가적인 지르코니아의 탈안정화 현상은 거의 발생되지 않았다.

산화물계 SEN내화물의 슬래그 라인부 침식특성 연구 (Study on the Corrosion Characteristics in the Slag Line of SEN Oxide Refractory)

  • The corrosion resistance of submerged entry nozzle (SEN) materials were investigated for high-class steel manufacturing. Composite samples were fabricated by mixing $ZrO_2$, $Al_2O_3$, MgO, mullite, spinel, and carbon. The raw materials were mixed with attrition milling, compacted in a uniaxial pressure of 200MPa and calcined at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 3 h in $N_2$ atmosphere. The bulk density and apparent porosity of the calcined samples were measured by the liquid displacement method in water using Archimedes's principle. The corrosion resistance of the samples were measured by cup test with mold powder at $1550^{\circ}C$ for 2 h. The microstructure and elemental analysis of samples were observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectrum (EDS), and X-ray diffraction pattern (XRD). The XRD result shows that the starting raw materials were crystalline phase. The microstructure of fabricated specimen was investigated before and after corrosion tests at $1000^{\circ}C$ and $1550^{\circ}C$ for 2h. $ZrO_2$-C composite showed good resistance in the slag corrosion test. Among the composite oxide materials, $ZrO_2-Al_2O_3$-C and $ZrO_2$-MgO-C showed better resistance than $ZrO_2$-C in the slag corrosion test. The diameter variation index of $ZrO_2$-C refractory was 16.1 at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 2 h. The diameter variation index of the $ZrO_2-Al_2O_3$-C refractory was larger than that of the $ZrO_2$-C refractory at $1550^{\circ}C$ for 2 h.

연주 탕면레벨 안정화를 위한 하이브리드형 퍼지제어기 설계 (Design of hybrid-type fuzzy controller for stabilizing molten steel level in high speed continuous casting)

  • In this paper, a hybrid type fuzzy controller is proposed to maintain molten steel level stable and reliable manner in high speed continuous casting regardless of various disturbances such as casting speed change, tundish weight variation, 치ogging/undoning of SEN(Submerged Entry Nozzle), periodic bulgings, etc. To accomplish this purpose, hardware filter and software filer are carefully designed to eliminate high frequency noise and to smooth input signals from harsh environments. In order to minimize the molten steel level variations from various disturbances the controller uses hybrid type control term: fuzzy logic term, proportional term, differential term and nonlinear feedback compensation tenn. The proposed controller is applied tn commercial mini-mill plant and shows considerable improvement in minimizing the molten steel variation.

전자기 브레이크를 적용한 연속주조공정에서의 난류유동 및 응고의 3차원 해석 (Three-Dimensional Analysis of the Coupled Turbulent Flow and Solidification During a Continuous Casting Process with Electromagnetic Brake)

  • A three-dimensional coupled turbulent fluid flow and solidification process were analyzed in a continuous casting process of a steel slab with Electromagnetic Brake(EMBR). A revised low-Reynolds number $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model was used to consider the turbulent effects. The enthalpy-porosity relation was employed to suppress the velocity within a mushy region. The electromagnetic field was described by Maxwell equations. Tile application of EMBR to the mold region results in the decrease of the transfer of superheat to the narrow face, the increase of temperature in free surface region and most liquid of submold region, and the higher temperature gradient near the solidifying shell. The increasing magnetic flux density effects mainly to the surface temperature of the solidifying shell of narrow face, hardly to the one of wide face. It is seen that in the presence of EMBR a thicker solidifying shell is obtained at the narrow face of the slab.

용강 및 슬래그에 의한 지르코니아/흑연계 침지노즐의 침식기구 (Corrosion mechanism of zirconia/graphite SEN by molten steel and slag)

  • 침지노즐(SEN)의 재료로 사용되는 지르코니아/흑연 재질에서 용강 및 슬래그에 의한 침식의 형태를 살펴본 결과, 침식의 첫번째 기구는 부분안정화 지르코니아 내 안정화제인 CaO가 용강 및 슬래그에 의해 용해되면서 입방정 안정화 지르코니아가 단사정상으로 상전이하여 일어났는데, 상전이 시 부피팽창에 의한 균열이 발생하고 파괴가 진행되었고, 이로 인하여 미세 $ZrO_2$입자의 용해 및 탈락이 촉진되었다. 침식의 두 번째 기구는 슬래그가 큰 c-$ZrO_2$입자의 입계를 따라 침투하여 작은 입자들로 분리시키고, 작은 입자들이 용강과 슬래그에 탈락되어 진행되었다. 마지막 기구로는 입방정 지르코니아와 흑연이 반응하여 다공질의 미세한 ZrC 상을 형성하고, 이들이 slag에 용해되면서 침식이 진행되었다.
