The Impact of Medical Utilization on Subjective Health and Happiness Index and Quality of Life according to the Economic Level of the Elderly (노인의 경제적 수준에 따른 의료이용이 주관적 건강수준과 행복감 지수 및 삶의 질에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to find concrete measures to improve the subjective health level, happiness and quality of life of the elderly according to economic level and to propose social and policy alternatives accordingly. As a research method, 63,929 elderly people aged 65 or older were surveyed using the Community Health Survey (Indicator Bank) _v09, and the frequency of health use by economic level, subjective health level, euphoria and quality of life Analysis and Chi square analysis and independent t-test. Multi variate logistic regression analysis was performed with subjective health level as a dependent variable and multiple linear regression analysis was performed to determine the factors affecting euphoria and quality of life. The results of the study are as follows. In the case of recipients, medical use was lower than that of non-recipients, lower education level, female age of 75 years or older, and less stress, In case of present or past recipients, the result of non - receipt increased as the subjective health level was worse, and the non - recipient had higher euphoria and quality of life. As a result, there is a need for alternatives to increase opportunities for medical use among the recipients, with particular attention being paid to women and elderly people over 75 years old. It is expected to be used as a basic data to effectively improve the health promotion, happiness and quality of life of the elderly people of low income group.

Exploring the constructs of school happiness of elementary students (초등학생의 학교 행복감 구성요인 탐색)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the factors of school happiness of elementary students by implicit theory. For this purpose, 192 items for happiness were constructed based on 76 5th and 6th elementary students' free descriptions. Then 75 items were selected for preliminary factor analysis based on item appropriateness by evaluation of 28 elementary teachers. The happiness inventory composed 136 items was administered to 155 students and 36 items were selected based on exploratory factor analysis results. 4 factors-optimism, positive peer-relationship, self-esteem, consideration, and teacher-relationship-were extracted by principal component analysis. The confirmatory factor analysis indices indicated that 4 factor model of happiness was fit. The reliability(Cronbach's ${\alpha}$) was .996.

The Factors Affecting the Level of awareness of Life and Happiness Perceived by Youth Generation (청년세대 삶의 인식 수준과 행복도의 영향요인)

  • In this study, we examined at what level young people perceive their level of life and the overall degree of happiness in their lives, and empirically analyzed the factors affecting them through multiple regression and ordered logit models. As a result of the analysis, young people were more aware of the degree of overall happiness than their perception of their lives. It has been confirmed that the factors affecting the young generation's perception of the level of life and the degree of happiness are different and different factors are working on each group. In addition, it has been found that the subjective factors of psychological and emotional characteristics have a greater influence than the objective factors of social and demographic characteristics at the level of awareness of life and happiness level. However, in the case of the youth group, it was found that objective factors such as job satisfaction are the determinants that have the greatest influence on life awareness and happiness. The tendency to paradoxically respond to the current level of happiness due to despair of the future has been found to be seen in some subgroups(middle income plus working group) rather than in the whole youth generation.

The Happiness as a cultural concept: Understanding "Shinmyeong" (신명나는 삶: 한국사람들의 행복에 대한 이해)

  • Present research is conducted for understanding the happiness of Korean people. In psychology, the happiness has been studied as subjective state which an individual perceives such as wellbeing(SWB) and satisfaction of life(SOL). However, the perceptions of people would be effected by their own culture, so the happiness has to be considered as a cultural concept. "Haengbok(幸福)", the Korean traditional concept of happiness has to be considered in various viewpoints. Many conditions will be needed to experience the feeling in Korea. However, in many cases, the "Haengbok" is formal expression. The practical term to express the feeling of happiness might be "Shinmyeong". Shinmyeong is one of the Korean unique positive feeling. The term Shinmyeong has been used widely in the context of celebrating happy life in Korean culture. According to former studies, Shinmyeong has influence not only on people's self esteem and self resiliency but on their SWB and SOL. The features and meanings of Shinmyeong is introduced and discussed to extend the discussion about happiness and culture.

The Influence of Perceived Stress on Subjective Well-being: The Mediating Effect of Resilience and Spiritual Experience (기독대학생의 지각된 스트레스가 주관적 웰빙에 미치는 영향: 회복탄력성과 영적 경험의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze mediating effect of resilience and daily spiritual experiences in the relationship of stress situations and subjective well-being of Christian college students. The subjects of this study were 157 Christian college students in a certain University which is located in Seoul, and mediating effect were analyzed through structural equation model. As a result of the analysis, first, there was a significant negative correlation between perceived stress and subject well-being. Second, resilience and spiritual experience had a full mediating effect on the relationship of perceived stress and subjective well-being. Third, in the relationship of perceived stress and subjective well-being, indirect effect through resilience has a greater mediating effect than spiritual daily experience. Implications of these results were concluded that spiritual daily experience of Christian college students is a significant variable in terms of stress and happiness. Apart from spiritual experience, however, resilience also could be a very important variable that mediates stress and happiness for Christian college students. In addition, suggestions for future research were discussed.

Influence of Parent's Child-rearing Attitudes, Social Support and Hardiness on Subjective Happiness (부모 양육태도, 사회적 지지 및 강인성이 자녀의 주관적 행복감에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of the present study was to investigate the role of social support and hardiness on the relationship between parenting attitudes and subjective well-being. The participants of this study were 318 university students and analyses for this study was conducted by using SPSS 15.0 and Amos 7.0. The major results were as follows; Social support confirmed mediating variable between parenting attitudes and hardiness, and hardiness confirmed mediating variable between social support and subjective well-being. That is, parenting attitudes had some effect on subjective well-being through hardiness based on social support. Finally, the needs of development about the counseling and the education contents as a special intervention was discussed, and that contents were reflected social support and hardiness to be improved. Also, limitations and implications of subsequent further study were suggested in this research.

Psychological Process of Athletic Burnout Experienced by Adolescent Players (청소년 운동선수가 경험하는 운동탈진의 심리적 과정)

  • This study set out to investigate structural relations among positive thinking, identity, sports happiness perception, and athletic burnout and analyze the mediating effects of identity and sports happiness perception on relations between positive thinking and athletic burnout in order to understand the psychological process of athletic burnout experienced by adolescent players. For these purposes, the study applied the convenience sampling method to male and female players at physical education and general middle and high schools around the nation and used total 306 questionnaires as final valid samples. Collected data was tested for the fitness of an overall model with the SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 22.0 programs. Then the hypotheses were tested. The findings were as follows: first, subjective satisfaction and pursuit of a goal in the category of positive thinking had significant effects on athletic identity; second, subjective satisfaction and pursuit of a goal in the category of positive thinking had no impacts on sports happiness perception; third, the athletic identity of adolescent players had positive impacts on their sports happiness perception and negative ones on their athletic burnout; fourth, the sports happiness perception of adolescent players had negative effects on their athletic burnout; and finally, athletic identity had mediating roles on relations between pursuit of a goal of positive thinking and sports happiness perception and on relations between pursuit of a goal of positive thinking and athletic burnout.

Evolutionary Concept Analysis of Korean Cancer Survivors' Happiness (한국 암생존자의 행복감에 대한 진화론적 개념분석)

  • The purpose of the study was to analyze the concept of happiness that would be experienced in life of Korean cancer survivors. The concepts of happiness were analyzed using the Rogers' evolutionary concept analysis method for 11 papers satisfying the selection criteria, among domestic journals published from January 2000 to September 2017. The result of this study was that attributes of happiness were subjective experience, positive mind, meaning of life and formation of relationship. Antecedents were to accept-risk-of-life, cope-with-the-reality, implement-self-reflection and environmental-support. As a result of the concept, cancer survivors' inner strength increased, they became feeling love and pursuing new lives, and felt happiness through self-realization. This study is valuable to suggest a basic framework for the stepwise assessment that can improve the happiness of Korean cancer survivors and cancer survivors should be managed through multidisciplinary convergence programs.

The Moderate Effect of the Religious Fundamentalism on Religious Orientations and Subjective Well-being (종교지향과 주관적 웰빙의 관계에 대한 종교적 원리주의의 조절효과)

  • This study aims to investigate how religious orientation of college students and the religious fundamentalism are related to their subjective well-being, and the interaction of religious orientations and the religious fundamentalism on their well-being. The participants were 374 college students who studies at an university located in Seoul, whose average of age were 22.54 (SD=4.79). The psychological tests used in this research included the following: I/E-R, the Religious Fundamentalism Scale, the Spiritual Well-Being Scale, Emotion Frequency Test, Satisfaction with Life Scale, Subjective Happiness Scale, Life Satisfaction Motivation Scale, and Life Satisfaction Expectancy Scale. Although religious students experienced more religious well-being than non-religious students, their subjective well-being were not higher than those of non-religious students. Results reveal that religious orientations were positively related to subjective well-being such as life satisfaction, subjective happiness, and positive emotions, as well as spiritual well-being. However, those covariance was approximately 4~6% only. Religious fundamentalism was also positively related to spiritual well-being and life satisfaction, it was negatively related to the motivation to live though. On the other hand, moderate effects of the religious fundamentalism on the relations of religious orientations to most of subjective well-being variables. Results of simple main effect analyses indicated that the students who were strongly oriented toward religion with higher religious fundamentalism showed significantly higher existential well-being, positive emotions, life satisfaction, subjective happiness, and especially their motivation and expectation for future life, whereas there were no significant differences in subjective well-being of students with lower religious fundamentalism by religious orientation. This finding suggests that some religiosity variables could affect human well-being with interactions

The Role of Cultural Self-construal on Stress Coping and Psychological Wellbeing (문화적 자기관에 따라 스트레스 대처방식이 행복 및 대인관계 만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • It is well known that personality and situation which person possess have an impact on the relationships between stress coping and psychological wellbeing. Although most of studies on cultural self-construal have used the concept of individual/collectivism (independent/interdependent) scale, a part of research showed that it was not similar results when the concepts were used with Korean samples. We applied new scale, subjective-objective self, to our study. Two hundred eighty three participants (M = 21.66) participated in the present research. We found that persons with higher subjective self used more problem solving and seeking help, and less denial coping methods. Next, the higher subjective self influenced happiness and interpersonal relationship satisfaction. Finally, the coping methods of problem solving and seeking help influenced more happiness and interpersonal relationship satisfaction among people with higher objective self than did among people with higher subjective self. The implication for study were discussed.
