This study for preparation of aluminum nitride (AlN) with high purity was carried out by self-propagating high-temperature synthesis method in two different systems, $Al-N_{2}$ and $Al-N_{2}$-AlN, with the change of nitrogen gas pressure and dilution factor. On the occasion of $Al-N_{2}$ system, unreacted aluminum was detected in the product in spite of high nitrogen pressure, 10 MPa, This may be caused by obstructing nitrogen gas flow to inner part of molten and agglomerate of aluminum, formed in pre-heating zone. In $Al-N_{2}$-AlN system, AlN with a purity of 95% or ever can be prepared in the condition of $f_{Dil}\geq0.5$, $P_{N_{2}}\geq$ 1 MPa, and the purity can be elevated to 98% over in the condition of $f_{Dil}$ = 0.7 and $P_{N_{2}}$ = 10 MPa.
The corrosion behavior of aluminum alloys in the $H_2SO_4$ solution was investigated based on potentiodynamic techniques. Electrochemical properties, such as corrosion potential($E_c$), passive potential($E_p$), corrosion current density($I_c$), corrosion rate(mpy), of Al-Mg-Si, Al-Cu-Si and Al-Si alloys were characterized at room temperature. Passive aluminum oxide film, which including $Al_2(SO_4)_3$ and $3Al_2O_34SO_38H_2O$, were uniformly formed on the surface via the reaction of Al with $SO{_3}^{2-}$ or $SO{_4}^{2-}$ ions in the $H_2SO_4$ solution and the dependence of the corrosion behavior on the alloying element was discussed. The selective leaching of alloy element increased with increasing Cu content in the aluminum alloys.

This study presents the energy-saving sequential control algorithm to handle indoor CO2 and PM2.5 for the improvement of the air quality of school classrooms. To solve indoor air quality (IAQ) problems, air cleaning and ventilation systems are mainly used for school classrooms. Although air cleaning is able to collect PM2.5, it is difficult to remove harmful gas substances. The ventilation system is suitable to tackle CO and CO2, the volume ventilation, however, is relatively small. In this paper, to remove CO2 and PM2.5, the pollutant balance equation for improving indoor air quality is reviewed. The sequential control algorithm of the ventilation and air cleaning system with four levels of criteria is introduced for the effective removal of pollutants. The proposed sequential control algorithm confirms that indoor CO2 and PM2.5 can be properly controlled below the standard value. In addition, the sequential operation of air cleaning and ventilation systems has shown significant improvement in IAQ compared to the independent ventilation system operation. Particularly, such systems are efficient when outdoor PM2.5 is high.
A cryogenic Mixed Refrigerant Joule-Thomson refrigeration cycle was designed to be applied to the semiconductor etching process with non-flammable constituents. 3-stage cascade refrigerator, single mixed refrigerant Joule-Thomson refrigerator, and 2-stage cascade type mixed refrigerant Joule-Thomson refrigerator are analyzed to figure out the coefficient of performance. Non-flammable mixture of argon(Ar), tetrafluoromethane(R14), trifluoromethane (R23) and octafluoropropane(R218) were utilized to analyze the refrigeration cycle efficiency. The designed refrigeration cycle was adapted to cool down the coolant of HFE7200(Ethoxy-nonafluorobutane, C4F9OC2H5) with certain constraints. Maximum coefficient of performance of the refrigeration system is obtained as 0.289 for the cooling temperature lower than -100℃. The detailed result of the coefficient of performance according to the mixture composition is discussed in this study.
This study proposes a pH-dissolved-oxygen monitoring system using 8-HydroxyPyrene-1,3,6-trisulfonic acid Trisodium Salt (HPTS) and tris(4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline)Ruthenium(II) chloride (Rudpp). Commercial water-quality sensors are electrochemical devices that require frequent calibration and cleaning, are subject to high maintenance costs, and have difficulties conducting measurements in real-time. The proposed pH-dissolved-oxygen monitoring system selects a thin-film sensing layer to measure the change in fluorescence intensity. This change in fluorescence intensity is based on reactions with hydrogen ions in an aqueous solution at a given pH and specific amount of dissolved oxygen. The change in fluorescence intensity is then measured using light-emitting diodes and photodiodes in response to HPTS and Rudpp. This method enables the development of a relatively small, inexpensive, and real-time measureable water-quality measurement system.

A protective oxide layer forms on the material surfaces of a Nuclear Power Plant during operation due to high temperature. These oxides can host radionuclides, the activated corrosion products of fission products, resulting in decommissioning workers' exposure. These deposited oxides are iron oxides such as Fe3O4, Fe2O3 and mixed ferrites such as nickel ferrites, chromium ferrites, and cobalt ferrites. Developing a new chemical decontamination technology for domestic CANDU-type reactors is challenging due to variations in oxide compositions from different structural materials in a Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) system. The Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) has already developed a chemical decontamination process for PWRs called 'HyBRID' (Hydrazine-Based Reductive metal Ion Decontamination) that does not use organic acids or organic chelating agents at all. As the first step to developing a new chemical decontamination technology for the Pressurized Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR) system, we investigated magnetite dissolution behaviors in various HyBRID inorganic acidic solutions to assess their applicability to the PHWR reactor system, which forms a thicker oxide film.

Implemented at the Geochang Observatory in South Korea, our slope detection and ranging (SLO-DAR) system features a 508 mm Cassegrain telescope (f /7.8), incorporating two Shack-Hartmann wave-front sensors (WFS) for precise measurements of atmospheric phase distortions, particularly from nearby binary or double stars, utilizing an 8 × 8 grid of sampling points. With an ability to reconstruct eight-layer vertical atmospheric profiles, the system quantifies the refractive index structure function (Cn2) through the crossed-beam method. Adaptable in vertical profiling altitude, ranging from a few hundred meters to several kilometers, contingent on the separation angle of binary stars, the system operates in both wide (2.5 to 12.5 arcminute separation angle) and narrow modes (11 to 15 arcsecond separation angle), covering altitudes from 122.3 to 611.5 meters and 6.1 to 8.3 kilometers, respectively. Initial measurements at the Geochang Observatory indicated Cn2 values up to 181.7 meters with a Fried parameter (r0) of 8.4 centimeters in wide mode and up to 7.8 kilometers with an r0 of 8.0 centimeters in narrow mode, suggesting similar seeing conditions to the Bohyun Observatory and aligning with a comparable 2014-2015 seeing profiling campaign in South Korea.
Various fluorides, i.e., CaF2, Na3AlF6, K2SiF6, MnF3, MgF2, were added to the flux cored wire, and their effects on the oxygen content of the weld metal were investigated. The investigation showed that the oxygen content of weld metal was not influenced by the type of metallic elements in the fluoride; rather, it was influenced by the stability of the arc during welding. While the wire containing MgF2 showed the most stable arc and the least amount of oxygen in the weld metal, the wire containing MnF3 showed the least stable arc and the greatest amount of oxygen. Since the deoxidation of the weld metal was not affected by the deoxidation elements, such as Ca and Mg, it was possible to predict the oxygen content of the weld metal by the equilibrium Si-Mn deoxidation thermodynamic model.
Maximum shear modulus (Gmax or G0) is an important soil property useful for many engineering applications, such as the analysis of soil-structure interactions, soil stability, liquefaction evaluation, ground deformation and performance of seismic design. In the current study, bender element (BE) tests are used to evaluate the effect of the void ratio, effective confining pressure, grading characteristics (D50, Cu and Cc), anisotropic consolidation and initial fabric anisotropy produced during specimen preparation on the Gmax of sand-gravel mixtures. Based on the tests results, an empirical equation is proposed to predict Gmax in granular soils, evaluated by the experimental data. The artificial neural network (ANN) and Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) models were also applied. Coefficient of determination (R2) and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) between predicted and measured values of Gmax were calculated for the empirical equation, ANN and ANFIS. The results indicate that all methods accuracy is high; however, ANFIS achieves the highest accuracy amongst the presented methods.

In order to evaluate the performance of carbon dioxide cycle with a sub-cooling loop. a simulation system was developed to predict the steady state of $CO_2$ trans-critical cycle. Mathematical models are derived to describe the relationships between the system's coefficient of performance and other operating parameters The mathematical models are based entirely on the basic mass and energy conservation law and thermodynamic and transport properties of carbon dioxide A parametric study has been conducted in order to investigate the effect of sub-cooling loop and various operating conditions on the cycle performance. An optimal mass fraction of a refrigerant flowing through sub-cooling cycle existed for the given evaporating temperature, high pressure and air inlet temperature through gas cooler.
