Deep-sea fishing vessel No. 501 Oryong was fully flooded through its openings and sunk to the bottom of the sea due to the very rough sea weather on the way of evasion after a fishing operation in the Bearing Sea. As a result, many crew members died and/or were missing. In this study, a full-scale ship flooding sinking simulation was conducted, and the sinking process was analyzed for the precise and scientific investigation of the sinking accident using highly advanced Modeling & Simulation (M&S) system of Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) analysis technique. To objectively secure the weather and sea states during the sinking accident in the Bering Sea, time-based wind and wave simulation at the region of the sinking accident was carried out and analyzed, and the weather and sea states were realized by simulating the irregular strong wave and wind spectrums. Simulation scenarios were developed and full-scale ship and fluid (air & seawater) modeling was performed for the flooding sinking simulation, by investigating the hull form, structural arrangement & weight distribution, and exterior inflow openings and interior flooding paths through its drawings, and by estimating the main tank capacities and their loading status. It was confirmed that the flooding and sinking accident was slightly different from a general capsize and sinking accident according to the simple loss of stability.
Software architecture representing a common high-level abstraction of a system can be used as a basis for creating mutual understanding among all stakeholders of the system. In determining a software architecture's fitness with respect to its desired qualities as well as in improving a software architecture, software architecture evaluation is importantly performed. However moat of architecture evaluation methods are not still sufficient in that they do not explicitly consider artifacts discussed during architecture evaluation and their processes are net systematic. As a result, we are hard to follow them. To address these problems, this paper presents the method to evaluate systematically a software architecture with respect to its desired qualities. In this approach, the functional and non-functional requirements are separately handled, and software architecture is represented in the 4+1 view model using UML. Through this initial consideration, the important artifacts such as goals, scope, and target of evaluation are clearly determined. Also, the method provides the well defined process to produce the important evaluation artifacts such as sub-designs, design decisions, rationale, qualities from inputs. In addition, it enables us to determine satisfaction of a architecture with respect its desired qualities or improve a architecture through the structured evaluation results.

For safe and easy disposal of prochloraz wastewaters after used as rice seed disinfectant in Korean farms, this experiment was carried out. By addition of several agricultural materials commonly utilizing in farmers, removal effect of prochloraz from waste solution was also investigated. When rice seeds after soaking in diluted prochloraz solution were rinsed with water several times, prochloraz was removed $9.2\sim10.6%$ at the first rinse and less than 3 % at the fourth rinse. A half life of prochloraz was $4\sim5$ days in aqueous system. Hydrolysis of prochloraz was more rapidly in alkali solution than neutral and acidic one at $25^{\circ}C$ and $35^{\circ}C$. By the irradiation under $5530J/cm^2$ using xenone lamp, prochloraz was photo-degraded to 87.7% in aqueous system. The removal efficiency of prochloraz by addition of several agricultural materials were as follows: 93.6% by lime, 90.7% by composed pig manure, 89.4% by activated charcoal, 78.0% by straw ash, 70.3% by sandy loam soil, 47.0% by zeolite and 24.1 % by rice straw. When prochloraz solution was sprayed on the field soil, it was dissipated upto 90% within 35 days.

The waste solution discharged from the LCD manufacturing process contains acids like nitric, acetic and phosphoric acid and metal ions such as Al, Mo and other impurities. It is important to removal of impurities to tess than 1ppm in phosphoric acid to reuse as an etchant because the residual impurities even in sub-ppm concentration in semiconductor materials play a major role on the electronic properties. In this study, we have been clearly established that a mixed system of solvent extraction, diffusion dialysis and ion-exchange technique, which made individually the most of characteristics is developed to commercialize in an efficient system for recovering the high-purity phosphoric acid. By applying vacuum evaporation, the yield of the process are almost 99% removal of nitric acid and acetic acid was achieved. And by applying the solvent extraction method with tri-octyl phosphate(TOP) as an extractant, the removal of acetic and nitric acid from the acid mixture was achieved effectively at the ratio O/A=1/3 with four stages and the stripping of nitric acid from organic phase is attained at a ration of O/A=1 with six stages by distilled water. About 97% and 76% removal of Al and Mo were achieved by diffusion dialysis. Essentially complete less than 1ppm removal of Al, Mo by using ion exchange ion resin and purification of the phosphoric acid was obtain.
In this paper, Using an automatic tracking system, behavior of an aquatic insect, Chironomus sp. (Chironomidae), was observed in semi-natural conditions in response to sub-lethal treament of a carbamate insecticide, carbofuran. The fourth instar larvae were placed in an observation cage $(6cm\times{7cm}\times{2.5cm)}$ at temperature of $18^\circ{C}$ and the light condition of 10 time (light) : 14 time (dark). The tracking system was devised to detect the instant, partial movement of the insect body. Individual movement was traced after the treatment of carbofuran (0.1ppm) for four days 2days : before treatment, 2 days : after treatment). Along with the other irregular behaviors, "ventilation activity", appearing as a shape of "compressed zig-zag", was more frequently observed after the treatment of the insecticide. The activity of the test individuals was also generally depressed after the chemical treatment. In order to detect behavioral changes of the treated specimens, wavelet analysis was implemented to characterize different movement patterns. The extracted parameters based on Discrete Wavelet Transforms (DWT) were subsequently provided to artificial neural networks to be trained to represent different patterns of the movement tracks before and after treatments of the insecticide. This combined model of wavelets and artificial neural networks was able to point out the occurrence of characteristic movement patterns, and could be an alternative tool for automatically detecting presences of toxic chemicals for water quality monitoring. quality monitoring.
This study is aimed at the development of a deterministic runoff model which can be used for flood runoff. The model is formulated by the watershed runoff model. Based on the assumptions that runoff system is nonlinear, the proposed watershed runoff model is the conceptual model. In the model structure, the conceptual model divides the runoff system into a surface structure and a subsurface structure corresponding to the surface flow, and inter flow and ground water flow respectively. The lag time effect of surface can be represented by the sub-tank of surface structure in the conceptual model. The parameter calibration of inter flow and ground water flow in the subsurface structure of the conceptual model is performed by separating the components with numeric filter The runoff coefficient($\alpha$$_2$) is expressed as the function of antecedent precipitation index(API). The parameters with the surface flow can be calibrated with the runoff coefficient($\alpha$$_1$ and $\alpha$/$_{11}$) in the conceptual model. In the conceptual model, an algorithm is developed to calibrate the parameters automatically based on efficiency criteria. The comparative study shows that simulated value from the conceptual model well agreed to observed value.
Groundwater flow in a basin is greatly affected by many hydrogeological and hydrological characteristics of the basin. A groundwater flow model for the Kap-cheon basin ($area=648.3km^2$) in the Geum river basin was established using MODFLOW by fully considering major features obtained from observed data of 438 wells and 24 streams. Furthermore, spatial groundwater recharge distribution was estimated employing accurately calibrated watershed model developed using SWAT, a physically semi-distributed hydrological model. Model calibration using observed groundwater head data at 86 observation wells yielded the deterministic coefficient of 0.99 and the water budget discrepancy of 0.57%, indicating that the model well represented the regional groundwater flow in the Kap-cheon basin. Model simulation results showed that groundwater flow in the basin was strongly influenced by such factors as topological features, aquifer characteristics and streams. The streams in mountainous areas were found to alternate gaining and losing steams, while the streams in the vicinity of the mid-stream and down-stream, especially near the junction of Kap-cheon and Yudeong-cheon, areas were mostly appeared as gaining streams. Analysis of water budget showed that streams in mountainous areas except for the mid-stream and up-stream of Yudeong-cheon were mostly fed by groundwater recharge while the streams in the mid and down-stream areas were supplied from groundwater inflows from adjacent sub-basins. Hence, it was concluded that the interactions between surface water-groundwater in the Kap-cheon basin would be strongly inter-connected with not only streams but also groundwater flow system itself.
As the average life span have been lengthened and the rate of senile population have been raised, chronic degenerative diseases incident to aging has been increased rapidly and become a social problem. With this social background, recently, the facts that oxygen radicals(OR) have toxic effects on Central Nervous System and Peripheral Nervous System and cause neuropathy such as Parkinson's Disease, Alzheimer Disease have been turned out, and accordingly lots of studies on the mechanism of the toxic effects of OR on nerves, the diseases caused by OR and the approaches to curing the diseases have been made. The purpose of this study is to examine the toxic effects caused by Glucose Oxidase(GO) and the effects of herbal extracts such as Chilbokyeum(CBY) on the treatment of the toxic effects. For this purpose, experiments with the cultured cell from the cerebrums of new born mice were done. The results of these experiments were as follows. 1. GO, a oxygen radical, decreased the survival rate of the cultured cells on NR assay and MTT assay 2. GO, a oxygen radical, increased lipid peroxidation and the amount of LDH. 3. CBY have efficacy of decreasing lipid peroxidation. 4. CBY have efficacy of decreasing the amount of LOH. From the above results, It is concluded that Chilbokyeum has marked efficacy as a treatment for the damages caused in the GO-mediated oxidative process. And Chilbokyeum is thought to have certain pharmacological effects on controlling over aging and treating Dementia. Further clinical study of this pharmacological effects of Chilbokyeum should be complemented.

The thioredoxin (Trx) system plays critical roles in regulating intracellular redox levels and defending organisms against oxidative stress. Recent studies indicated that Trx reductase (TrxR) was overexpressed in various types of human cancer cells indicating that the Trx-TrxR system may be a potential target for anti-cancer drug development. This study investigated the synergistic effect of auranofin, a TrxR-specific inhibitor, on sulforaphane-mediated apoptotic cell death using Hep3B cells. The results showed that sulforaphane significantly enhanced auranofin-induced apoptosis by inhibiting TrxR activity and cell proliferation compared to either single treatment. The synergistic effect of sulforaphane and auranofin on apoptosis was evidenced by an increased annexin-V-positive cells and Sub-G1 cells. The induction of apoptosis by the combined treatment caused the loss of mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨm) and upregulation of Bax. In addition, the proteolytic activities of caspases (-3, -8, and -9) and the degradation of poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase, a substrate protein of activated caspase-3, were also higher in the combined treatment. Moreover, combined treatment induced excessive generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). However, treatment with N-acetyl-L-cysteine, a ROS scavenger, reduced combined treatment-induced ROS production and apoptosis. Thereby, these results deduce that ROS played a pivotal role in apoptosis induced by auranofin and sulforaphane. Furthermore, apoptosis induced by auranofin and sulforaphane was significantly increased through inhibition of the phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/Akt pathway. Taken together, the present study demonstrated that down-regulation of TrxR activity contributed to the synergistic effect of auranofin and sulforaphane on apoptosis through ROS production and inhibition of PI3K/Akt signaling pathway.

Epidemiological studies have indicated that the ubiquitous consumption of seaweeds is a protective factor against some types of cancer. Previous results showed that the administration of seaweed powder or extract reduced the incidence rate of chemically induced tumorigenesis using in vivo animal model. Recently, we reported that the extracts of Gloiopeltis furcata, a kind of Korean edible seaweed, caused he cell growth inhibition of various human cancer cell lines, among them methanol extract exhibited a relatively strong antiproliferative activity. However, the molecular mechanisms of this seaweed in malignant cells have been poorly studied until now. To elucidate this problem, we investigated the effects of methanol extract of G. furcata (MEGF) on the growth inhibition in several human cancer cell lines, and further we analyzed the effects of this extract were tested on the activity of apoptosis induction in human leukemic cells. The results demonstrated that MEGF treatment resulted in the morphological changes and the growth inhibition in a dose-dependent manner. Furthermore, MEGF potently suppresses the growth of human leukemic U937 cells by induction of apoptosis, which was associated with induction of cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor p21(WAF1/CIP1) in a tumor suppressor p53-independent fashion and up-regulation of Fas/FasL system. Further studies will be needed to identify the active compounds that confer the anticancer activity of MEGF. Once such compounds are identified, the mechanisms by which they exert their effects can begin to be characterized.
