The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for nursing intervention in patient undergoing angiocardiography. Method: The subjects of this study were 60 patients undergoing angiocardiography. The data were analyzed using mean, percentage and pearson correlation Coefficient. Result 1) The mean score of the affective stress(anxiety) was $48.00{\pm}12.24$ and behavioral stress was $1.98{\pm}1.97$. The mean score of the physiologic stress(vital sign) was systolic pressure $124.10{\pm}17.72$, diastolic pressure $79.71{\pm}12.68$, pulse: $81.03{\pm}12.16$, respiration: $21.21{\pm}1.40$ 2) The mean score of the pain was $1.40{\pm}0.67.$ 3) There was a significant positive correlation between stress and pain. Conclusion : The result of this study show that stress is very important factor that effect on the pain therefore it will be considered stress in patient undergoing angiocardiography.
In this study, effect of horizontal in situ stress on failure mechanism around underground openings excavated in isotropic, elastic rock zones is investigated. For estimating the plastic zone occurrence, an induced stress influence area approach (Bray Equations) was modified to define critical stress ratio according to the Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion. Results obtained from modified calculations were compared with results of some other analytical solutions for plastic zone thickness estimation and the numerical modelling (finite difference method software, FLAC2D) study. Plastic zone and its geometry around tunnels were analyzed for different in situ stress conditions. The modified equations gave similar results with those obtained from the other approaches. However, safer results were calculated using the modified equations for high in situ stress conditions and excessive ratio of horizontal to vertical in situ stresses. As the outcome of this study, the modified equations are suggested to use for estimating the plastic zone occurrence and its thickness around the tunnels with circular cross-section.
The notch effects on the fatigue strength of welded joints are both stress concentration and fatigue strength reduction. In the notch stress approach, the notch effects are usually approximated by introducing weld-bead parameters for the local detailed weld joints. In this paper, well-known notch stress approaches - critical distance method, area method and fictitious rounding method are presented for the fatigue strength of cruciform joints. The estimated results of the present methods are applied to the experiments performed in this study and reported in the references. The results of the application show that the fatigue-life scatterness of the experimental data expressed in the nominal stress is significantly reduced by introducing the effective fatigue stress of the present study.
This study was performed in order to investigate to dietary behavior, perceived stress level and their correlations for University students. Dietry behavior of 72% subjects was poor and only 1.8% was good. The dietary behavior of subjects was correlated with their residence type. The overage stress point was $1.76{\pm}0.53$ and female students was more stressed than male. Objective : This study was to find out whether there was a difference between parenting stress of parents with and without sensory defensiveness and level of the quality of life, to analyze the factors related with parenting stress of parents and quality of life and to develop intervention program to improve quality of life of parents that care children with problem on sensory process. Methods : The population of this study was consisted of 82 children aged from 3 to 7 years and was treated occupational therapy in clinics or welfare centers for disabled persons. Parenting stress was assessed with Parenting Stress Index and the quality of life scales used by Lee Jeong-Eun was used to assess the level of quality of life. Result : The difference between parenting stress with and without sensory defensiveness and level of quality of life was only shown in parenting stress, and the correlation between parenting stress with and without sensory defensiveness and quality of life indicated negative correlation in both sensory defensiveness and no sensory defensiveness group(r=-0.52, r=-0.65, p<0.05). This study found there was significant difference between quality of life factors affecting parenting stress of parents and parenting stress factors affecting quality of life in sensory defensiveness and no sensory defensiveness group. Conclusion : The study showed that clinicians must develop appropriative intervention program with sensory defensiveness or without sensory defensiveness for decreasing parenting stress and increasing quality of life for their parents.
The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of the elderly's stress on depression, and also to verify the mediating effect of the elderly's resilience and the moderating effect of their social activity between stress and depression. To achieve the purpose of this study, questionnaire survey was conducted. Research subjects of this study were 487 elderly people who were 60 years old and over in Gimhae area. Both the elderly participating in senior welfare center or community center and home care elderly people were included in survey. The study results are as follows: First, there were significant influence of the elderly's stress on depression. Second, the mediating effect of the elderly's resilience between stress and depression was verified. Both the direct effect of stress on depression and indirect effect of stress through resilience on depression were verified. Third, the moderating effect of the elderly's social activity between stress and depression was verified. It was found that the harmful effect of the elderly's stress on depression could be alleviated by participation in social activity. Through the study result, the elderly's resilience which is internal resource, is needed to be strengthened to alleviate depression derived from stress. Also, the elderly's active participation in social activity is needed to be encouraged to prevent the harmful effect of the elderly's stress on depression. Therefore, it is recommended that programs enhancing resilience of the elderly should be developed and the elderly should be supported to participate in social activity more actively.
The purpose of this study is to find out the stress causes of the primary students in Korea, through the three major methods, life event score, multiple regression about stress causes and G.H.Q. path-diagram. A survey was made of 889 students who were selected among students of six primary schools in seoul and Ka-pyeng, from Sep. 28 to Oct. 2. 1992. The results of this study are summarized as follows : 1. Life event score Among the children's life events, (deaths of family) (degrade of school record) (the increase of absence days) (divorce of parents) (trouble with relationship) are high ranking in life event score. Besides, (scolded by teacher and parents) (beginning of extracurricular work) are spread stress causes. In conclusion, these stress causes are shown by two aspects, home, school, and so children are under stress circumstance in both places. These stress causes vary with area and sex. 2. Multiple regression about stress causes and G.H.Q. This study analysed how a stress caused by home life affects the children's health of mind and body. The most influential factors are , and these factors vary with area and sex. 3. Path-diagram This study proved that socio-psychological school environment raises children to secede from school, and this secession that operates as a stress cause affects children's health of mind and body. This serial process is analysed by path analysis, and made out a path-diagram. In conclusion, as expected socio-psychological,school environment affects the children's health of mind and body. This is shown by two aspects : positive, negative. This stress causes vary with area and sex.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of 5 different personalities on job stress in physical therapists. Design: Descriptive cross-sectional study. Methods: Structured self-report questionnaires consisted of demographic items, 5 types of personalities, and occupational stress. A questionnaire was distributed to 420 physical therapists working in Seoul and Incheon who had voluntarily agreed to participate in the study after the purpose of the study was explained. Of the 420 questionnaires, 405 questionnaires were collected and showed a recovery rate of 96.4%, of which 28 cases were excluded, leaving a total of 377 questionnaires being used for analyses. Pearson correlation analysis was performed to investigate the correlation of job stress and five personalities types. In addition, multiple regression analysis was performed to investigate the effect of general and occupational characteristics of physical therapist on job stress and the effect of personality type on occupational stress. All statistical significance levels were set at p<0.05. Results: The highest number of subjects, which were the physical therapists, showed the tendency to have a sincere personality, followed by affinity, openness, extroversion, and neuroticism. Physical therapists reported to be the most stressed in the order of professional role conflict, overload of work, work relation with a physician and supervisor, interpersonal relationship with patient and caregiver. The higher the level of affinity and sincerity, the lower the amount of stress received by the therapist from the interpersonal relationships between the patient and caregivers. On the other hand, the greater the level of openness and sincerity, the lower the stress levels related to professional role conflict. Conclusions: This study showed that the personality type and job stress of physiotherapists had a statistically significant effect. It is very important for physiotherapists to find their own way of coping with stress, which is satisfactory and appropriate for their job, because it is related not only to individual problems but also to the quality of patient care and medical services. Therefore, it is necessary to continue conducting research on how to relieve the stress levels of physical therapists according to their personality characteristics.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the degree of Job stress and Coping of the nurses in ICU and Cancer ward, and to compare the Job stress and Coping between two groups, and finally to get the basic information about the adequate method to promote Coping about Job stress of the nurses in ICU and Cancer ward. Method: The subjects of this study were 131; 62 nurses in ICU and 69 nurses in Cancer ward. Data were collected from 27th August to 14th September in 2007. The instruments for this study were Job stress scale(55 items) developed by Kim(1989), and Coping scale(32 items) developed by Lazarus and Folkman(1984) and revised by Han and Oh(1990). For the data analysis, SPSS PC/win 12.0 program was utilized for descriptive statistics, $X^2$-test, t-test, Pearson correlation. Result: The results of this study were the followings; The mean score of Job stress(range 1-5) was 2.93 in ICU nurse and 2.58 in Cancer ward nurse. There was a significant difference (t=4.453, p<.01)between them. There were significant differences in subscale of Job stress between the two groups, such as Nursing job(t=3.717, p<.01), Job circumstances(t=4.558, p<.01), Personal relations(t=3.425, p<.01), Hospital administration and ward management(t=2.94, p<.01). The mean score of Coping(range 1-4) was 2.55 in ICU nurse, and 2.54 in Cancer ward nurse; there was no significant difference. But one subscale of the Coping(Search of social support) showed significant difference(t=-2.865, p<.01). There was no significant correlation between Job stress and Coping of ICU nurse vs Cancer ward nurse except one subscale in cancer ward(correlation between Nursing Job and Coping). Conclusion: The ICU nurse is higher than the Cancer ward nurse in the Job stress score significantly and lower than the Cancer unit nurse in the Coping. Based on the study results, it is needed the program development using the Coping methods in accordance with ward speciality to relieve Job stress.
This study was performed to identify the level of stress of clinical practice and clinical competency and the relationships between stress of clinical practice and clinical competency in nursing students. The subjects of this study were 379 senior nursing students in 2 nursing colleges in M city. The data were collected from November 5th to 24th, 2000, using questionnaire. The instruments used were the Stress of Clinical Practice Scale and the Clinical Competency Measurement Tool. The data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's Correlation Coefficient, using the SPSS program. The results of the study were as follows : 1. The mean score for the level of stress of clinical practice was 3.83 points. The stress of clinical practice were classified into six dimensions and their order of getting score was nurse(3.99), relationship between nursing theory and practice(3.94), human relationship (3.92), clinical education and evaluation by professors(3.87), environment(3.70), and patient(3.59). 2. The mean score for the level of clinical competency was 3.91 points. The clinical competency were classified into five dimensions and their order of getting score was professional development (4.08), skills (4.06) , interpersonal relationship/communication(3.95), teaching/coordinating(3.81), and nursing process(3.70), 3. The stress of clinical practice showed significant difference in the score of grade(t=-2.82, p=.005), interpersonal relationship(t=1.97, p=.049) and satisfaction of major(F=3.38, p=.035) of nursing students. 4. The clinical competency showed significant difference in the score of grade(t=-5.97, p=.000). interpersonal relationship(t=3.64, p=.000) and satisfaction of major(F=8.73, p=.000) of nursing students. 5. The data showed the positive correlations between stress of clinical practice and clinical competency(r=.209, p=.000). In conclusion. this study found that the stress of clinical practice was significantly related to clinical competency in nursing students. Therefore further study is needed to examine the efficient coping strategies about stress of clinical practice in nursing students.
