The Experiences and Meanings of University Student Entrepreneurs' Start-Up Activities (대학생 창업가의 창업활동 경험과 의미)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the experiences and meanings of university student entrepreneurs' start-up activities. For this purpose, the study had an in-depth interview with five university students that started a business in university in September~November, 2021 and analyzed their data. The findings were as follows: University student entrepreneurs had several experiences with start-up activities including having an encounter with a start-up in university, suffering difficulties as university student entrepreneurs that studied as students and also ran business as beginning entrepreneurs, fighting alone in their relations with various people, and having an intense sense of achievement as entrepreneurs for their business results and social recognition. Their start-up activities had different meanings such as finding a new career path, becoming a true leader, making progress in interpersonal relations, and growing to be more robust. These findings will serve as basic data to develop policies that will promote start-up education and supports in university.

  • The government set up "national happiness, the hope of a new era of national vision under' job center of the creative economy" to achieve by national goals in the first and figure achieved through the establishment of new growth engines of the youth unemployment problem solve and national level there are a number of business start-up support. September 8, 2015 announced the Government's look at the '2016 Year of the budget, the government for new growth engines greatly promoted the venture entrepreneurship ecosystem revitalization and research and development (R & D) the business for enhanced performance in 2017. According to the direction of this study is to evaluate the current creative economy business incubator at the comparison whether the correct orientation mainly entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs preliminary recognition of student entrepreneurship ecosystem. Entrepreneurs 113 people in that way, 71 people pre-entrepreneurs, students 60, workers were founding agencies conducted an online survey of 47 people, 16 people Investors, 50 public and 11 additional persons including a total of 368 people. This study is in line with the orientation of these entrepreneurs to create economic status and recognition of the Republic of Korea entrepreneurship ecosystem, pre- entrepreneurs, students will examine the comparative analysis around. Analysis, social perception of entrepreneurship is somewhat higher than it was confirmed that the negative response of 32.2% to 36.3% of positive response. Social awareness of entrepreneurs showed a 2-fold higher response rate than the negative of response of 17.1% to 41.7% responding that positive recognition for the current start-up environment is bad, the response is good response to higher response rate than 23.5% to 41.1% It showed. The percentage of responses that better respect the entrepreneurship environment of the future Republic of Korea showed a higher response rate than the rate of 23% in response to deteriorate to 41.2%, with 52.9% awareness is the percentage that responded that the bad part about the ruthless Korea's entrepreneurship environment in China good part as response rate approximately three times greater than the 17.7% showed high response rates. Social awareness of entrepreneurs experience the presence of the founding start-up experience was confirmed that the more negative the number increases, the more the contrary the number of start-up experience increased awareness of the current and future environment of entrepreneurship was identified as a positive entrepreneurship environment.   • With the decline in the college student population and the increase in the youth unemployment rate, the university began to be interested in starting a business. Under the initiative of the government, the start-up support project was reflected in the university's educational programs, which led to the university students receiving various start-up support benefits. In response to the expansion of entrepreneurship education, various entrepreneurship education programs and support programs were applied in line with the government's efforts to start college students. As a result, students' entrepreneurial competence and willingness to start up increased. College student entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs are increasing. The increase of university student start-up companies is taking place in the entrepreneurial education environment within the university, and the support of university, community, and start-up support institutions for university student start-up, the starting point of the start-up ecosystem, is paying off. It can be seen that the youth entrepreneurship ecosystem based on university entrepreneurship education is in place. The university supports the entire business process from idea development, such as start-up classes, start-up club support, patent application support, prototype development support, and investment linkage. However, there is a university that develops and operates a unique program for each school and a university that does not. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an education program that can produce efficient results. The purpose of this study is to support the start-up program of the university to be the consumer-centered start-up support.

An Exploratory Study on Component of Invention Education Program to Building an Entrepreneur in Digital Age (디지털시대의 창업가 육성을 위한 발명교육 프로그램 방향에 관한 탐색적 연구 - 창업아이디어 개발중심으로 -)

  • This study identifies perceived importance and relative education necessity of entrepreneurship education program of university students. This research examine the major 5 factors of invention education program and identified the improvement of relative invention education program relation to entrepreneurship process. The sample survey of this research are 125 university student respondents and 5 invention entrepreneurs are participated. Research methods used means, percentile, frequency and factor analysis. Major findings are as follows; the selected course category of factor analysis categorized the understanding of invention concept, invention and management, invention and creativity, invention and patent and invention exercise. The mean value of perceived importance that invention and management, invention exercise, invention and creativity, invention concept and invention and patent are in order. But the perception of invention entrepreneurs to patent, management, creativity, invention exercise and invention concepts are in order. And the sub invention program's necessity degree relation to 'management and exercise' are higher than others. This study suggested that invention education program reinforcing the invention management and student takes interesting patent contents which accepted exercise program with easy.

The Effect of Satisfaction of Entrepreneurship Education on Successful Entrepreneurship

  • Recently, many policies and fairs have been made in relation to start-ups. In addition, various start-up education for prospective start-ups is being conducted in various ways. Therefore, these days, the number of prospective start-ups who receive such information and start-up education is increasing. Nevertheless, more and more start-ups are still unsuccessful and close their businesses within months or years. In particular, start-ups who continue to maintain their start-ups also see the unfortunate reality of start-ups that find other jobs in various support systems and related policies and relationships that they cannot quit even if they want to. In this study, based on previous studies, factors for satisfaction with entrepreneurship education will be set and a questionnaire will be conducted for prospective entrepreneurs who have completed education at a startup education center in Seoul. The survey results are intended to verify their reliability and validity through empirical analysis. The SPSS statistical package will be used for analysis, and a total of 200 copies of the questionnaire will be distributed and collected. In this study, it was confirmed that the higher the satisfaction with entrepreneurship education, the better the successful entrepreneurship. In addition, I think that further developing various policies or detailed curriculums for entrepreneurship education will be of great help to prospective entrepreneurs taking entrepreneurship education.

Building the University Entrepreneurial Ecosystem towards Hub University at Seoul National University in Korea (서울대 창업생태계의 형성과정과 허브 대학으로의 변화)

  • This paper aims to examine how and why the role of Seoul National University has evolved through the formation of Seoul National University's entrepreneurial ecosystems (SNUEEs). To identify this, we used secondary data on SNU entrepreneurship and did in-depth interviews with 17 student entrepreneurs and supportive actors in the ecosystems. First, the university-industry cooperation policy and the first start-up boom in the late 1990s gave rise to the first generation of SNUEEs. They entered the second generation with the second start-up boom in 2010. The third generation emerged through the government's start-up support policy and the venture investment market revitalization in 2017. Second, SNUEEs have experienced transformations of the university's role from an 'ivory tower' to a 'feeder of knowledge and labor' and have become a 'hub of knowledge networks.' Third, hub institutions and organizations were established and supported by government policies, and networks of SNUEEs have been embedded in these hub institutions and organizations. SNUEEs as a hub university are evolving through the formation of a voluntary entrepreneurial culture by student entrepreneurs, the supportive policy at the university level, and the establishment of linkages with the region where the university is located.

Analysis of Perceptions of Student Start-up Policies in Science and Technology Colleges: Focusing on the KAIST case (과기특성화대학 학생창업정책에 대한 인식분석: KAIST 사례를 중심으로)

  • This study aimed to investigate students' perceptions at science and technology specialized universities towards entrepreneurship support policies and to derive policy improvement measures by applying a bottom-up approach to reflect the requirements of the policy beneficiaries, i.e., the students. Specifically, the research explored effective execution strategies for student entrepreneurship support policies through a survey and analysis of KAIST students. The findings revealed that KAIST students recognize the urgent need for improvement in sharing policy objectives with the student entrepreneurship field, reflecting the opinions of the campus entrepreneurship scene in policy formulation, and constructing an entrepreneurship-friendly academic system for nurturing student entrepreneurs. Additionally, there was a highlighted need for enhancement in the capacity of implementing agencies, as well as in marketing and market development capabilities, and organizational management and practical skills as entrepreneurs within the educational curriculum. Consequently, this study proposes the following improvement measures: First, it calls for enhanced transparency and accessibility of entrepreneurship support policies, ensuring students clearly understand policy objectives and can easily access information. Second, it advocates for student-centered policy development, where students' opinions are actively incorporated to devise customized policies that consider their needs and the actual entrepreneurship environment. Third, there is a demand for improving entrepreneurship-friendly academic systems, encouraging more active participation in entrepreneurship activities by adopting or refining academic policies that recognize entrepreneurship activities as credits or expand entrepreneurship-related courses. Based on these results, it is expected that this research will provide valuable foundational data to actively support student entrepreneurship in science and technology specialized universities, foster an entrepreneurial spirit, and contribute to the creation of an innovation-driven entrepreneurship ecosystem that contributes to technological innovation and social value creation.

Mentoring Nascent Entrepreneurs: What Leads to Intention? (초기창업자 멘토링: 어떻게 창업의도로 연결되는가?)

  • The identification of the entrepreneurs' capacity and the obstacles of university/graduate school students have been assuming a growing importance in the development of mentoring directed towards the entrepreneurship and start-up processes. This study aims to identify the factors that most contribute for the intention to start up a business. The research also tries to identify the profile of a potential entrepreneur student concerning several characteristics: entrepreneurial capacity, obstacles and mentoring. We used the modeling testing of the data collected from 139 university/graduate school students. Research findings include the idea that entrepreneurial mentoring is moderating effect on entrepreneurial intention. On the other side, personal entrepreneurial capacity has an important role in shaping motivation to start-up a business and entrepreneurial obstacle have a negative impact in the intention to start-up. Contribution and suggestions are provided for the further research.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out whether the many start-up support programs provided by a college can actually help students start a business, and to discuss what role colleges should have as facilitators of student entrepreneurship. To this end, a qualitative study was conducted with seven students who wished to start a business by utilizing start-up education and support programs provided by College Y. As a result of the study, the participants first mentioned parallel and administrative inefficiency in entrepreneurship and the entrepreneurship programs. Second, the implications for the role of colleges in fostering start-up content are systematic planning and guidance for start-up programs operated by the college, concise administrative procedures, mentoring in various start-up items, and securing a test market. It can be said that the concept of a common office in which students can work together is necessary. The study is significant in that it can help to establish a start-up support plan by suggesting what role colleges should play in relation to entrepreneurship, but its limitation is that its scope includes only one specific major.

Comparative Analysis of the Local Economic Impact of University Student Startup in Korea and China (한중 대학생 창업의 지역경제효과에 대한 비교분석)

  • This study examines the impact of university graduate Startup rates on economic growth in the regions where universities are located, using panel data from 35 universities in 17 regions in Korea and 21 universities in 13 cities in China over a six-year period from 2016 to 2021. In Korea, a total of 35 universities were selected as part of the Ministry of Education's "University-initiated Startup" policy, including Startup-oriented universities, leading universities in Startup education innovation, Startup education bases, and excellent universities in Startup education, while in China, 21 universities were selected as part of the pilot bases established as part of the "Mass Entrepreneurship, Mass Innovation" policy. To analyze the economic impact of the universities on the regions where they are located, we aimed to conduct an empirical analysis of the economic impact using economic indicators of the economic growth rate of the regions where they are located. The results of the empirical analysis show that the Startup rate of university graduates in Korea and China both have a positive impact on the regional economic growth rate, but the Startup rate of local university graduates in Korea has a greater impact on the regional economy than in China. Based on the findings that the number of entrepreneurs produced by universities has a positive impact on the economic growth of their regions, this study draws implications for the role of universities and regions in revitalizing local economies and the establishment of systems to resolve the imbalance between metropolitan and non-metropolitan areas.
