청소년의 아침식사와 운동 행동변화단계에 따른 영양지식, 식이자기효능감과 식습관 (Nutrition Knowledge, Dietary Self-Efficacy and Eating Habits According to Student's Stage of Regular Breakfast or Exercise)

  • This study has been performed to analyze nutrition knowledge, dietary self-efficacy and eating habits of the elementary- and middle- school students (n = 342) according to student's stage of regular breakfast or exercise. Middle school students had higher nutrition knowledge than primary school students. Total dietary self-efficacy and dietary habit scores were not different by school year and gender. Nutrition knowledge, dietary self-efficacy and dietary habit scores were positively correlated each other. By the stage of regular breakfast, the pre-contemplation stage comprised 13.6%, contemplation 2.1%, preparation 15.7%, action 11.5% and maintenance stage 59.1%. By the stage of regular exercise, the pre-contemplation stage comprised 20.9%, contemplation 7.3%, preparation 45.6%, action 9.8% and maintenance stage 16.4%. According to the stage of change, movement from the pre-contemplation and contemplation to upper stage increased the dietary self-efficacy score. Dietary habit score increased significantly across the five stages of changes. The results of this study indicate differences in stages of changes in breakfast intake and regular exercise and indicate the need for taking these phases of change into account in nutrition education.

대학생 환경동아리 활동의 교육적 의미 (A Study on the Educational Meaning of an Undergraduate Student's Environmental Club Experience)

  • This study investigates an undergraduate student's environmental club experience by employing a biographical research method. The informant has been member of the environmental club since he is a freshman. The purpose of this study is three points. First, which theoretical framework is suitable to explain the characteristics of environmental club experience ? Second, what is the characteristics of the informant's environmental club experience analysed by means of the theoretical framework ? Finally, what is the educational meaning of environmental club experience ? As a result, I find that environmental identity is very powerful framework to explain the characteristics of environmental club experience. Also, I explain the informant's environmental club experience as the formation of environmental identity by changes in three aspects. In the informant's life, cultural world of environment/environmental movement becomes salient which is closely connected with development of agency in the world and understanding how environmental problems can be solved. It is argued that environmental club experience has educational meaning in the studies and practices of environmental education, as follows. Environmental club experience has implications of redefining the goals of environmental education, and improving environmental problem solving learning. Finally, the informant's environmental identity is considered as reflexive identity which is formed through personal reflection of his experience.

Attempt of Mechanical Clock Design and Making as PBL Subject

  • The mechanical clock was designed and produced by students as a trial theme of PBL class. The limit of making time is three weeks and main material is limited to paper. Only a basic mechanism drawing is given. As the principle of mechanical clock is not complex and does not need the special knowledge of mechanical engineering, even lower grade student seems to understand enough. This subject can train the skill of knowledge composition, creativity and the problem-solving ability. After execution,the validity and performance as the theme of PBL class was evaluated. As a result, the following findings were obtained. The paper made mechanical clock could be produced in three weeks. And, by additional improvements of the product, the enough strength and stable movement were achieved. Students can learn that many kinds of knowledge through actual experiences of design and making were required in manufacturing the real products. The proposed PBL style class is suitable as an introduction and training subject for lower grade student in department of engineering.

Optimal EEG Feature Extraction using DWT for Classification of Imagination of Hands Movement

  • An optimal feature selection and extraction procedure is an important task that significantly affects the success of brain activity analysis in brain-computer interface (BCI) research area. In this paper, a novel method for extracting the optimal feature from electroencephalogram (EEG) signal is proposed. At first, a student's-t-statistic method is used to normalize and to minimize statistical error between EEG measurements. And, 2D time-frequency data set from the raw EEG signal was extracted using discrete wavelet transform (DWT) as a raw feature, standard deviations and mean of 2D time-frequency matrix were extracted as a optimal EEG feature vector along with other basis feature of sub-band signals. In the experiment, data set 1 of BCI competition IV are used and classification using SVM to prove strength of our new method.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 9학년 학생의 공간능력 차이에 따른 지구자전 개념을 알아보는 것이다. 광역시 소재 9학년 학생 83명중 천체의 공간운동 개념 평가(김기정, 1997)에서 개념 획득 정도가 비슷하면서 공간능력에 차이가 있는 남학생 2명과 여학생 2명을 각각 표집하여 질적 분석의 대상으로 삼았다. 연구 결과, 공간능력이 높은 학생일수록 개념이 올바르고 개념들을 입체적 공간으로 재구성하여 이해하였다. 공간능력이 낮을수록 개념이 불완전하고 단편적인 개념들을 암기하고 있었다. 성별에 따라서는 공간능력이 높은 남학생은 개념들을 간단 명료하게 표현하였고, 낮은 학생은 자전에 대한 방향을 일주운동과 연관시켜 해석하지 못했다. 반면에 여학생은 공간능력이 높을 때 개념들을 구체적으로 표현하였으며, 낮을수록 개념들을 입체적으로 표현하지 못하였다. 따라서 공간능력이 높은 학생은 문제 상황을 제시하여 스스로 해결할 수 있도록 하고, 낮은 학생은 현상들을 직접 관찰하여 쉽게 이해 할 수 있도록 학습 자료를 개발하여야겠다. 여학생은 공간을 입체적으로 조작해 볼 수 있도록 하고 남학생은 사물을 여러 관점으로 생각해 볼 수 있도록 교수 전략 및 학습 자료 등을 개발 한다면 천문단원의 공간능력이 향상되고, 개념 획득이 잘 될 수 있을 것이라 기대한다.

  • Math teachers are very short of computer tools and manipulatives to use in geometry classes of middle schools for the development of spatial abilities. At most they can ask student to make regular polyhedrons for helping the students to understand by concrete experience, but this experience is not enough to develop spatial abilities in spatial figures including the regular polyhedrons. This article is to introduce instructional materials for development of spatical ability in the regular polyhedrons using computer software, Geometer's Sketchpad. In this article, students can imagine the whole figure through the parts of a plane figure and think of the parts from the solid figure by free movement from 2 dimensions to 3 dimensions, or from 3 dimensions to 2 dimensions. Also, the instructional materials devised in this article will be good to enhance spatial abilities because the relation of 1-1 correspondence in the movement of the parts can be conserved and observed precisely, which is very hard to demonstrate and visualize by paper-and-pencil. It is recommended that this kind of materials should be developed in various ways for teachers to use them directly in their geometry classes.

Comparison of temporomandibular disorders between menopausal and non-menopausal women

  • Objectives: Hormonal changes during menopause alter a woman's susceptibility to some disorders. Information regarding the prevalence of temporomandibular disorder (TMD) in menopausal women is limited in the literature. In this study, the prevalence and severity of TMDs were compared between menopausal and non-menopausal women. Materials and Methods: The study included 140 women (69 premenopausal and 71 postmenopausal) 45 to 55 years of age that were examined in Shiraz Dental School, Shiraz in Iran. The Helkimo clinical dysfunction index (Di) was used to evaluate temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction. The data were analyzed using chi-square and Fisher's exact tests. Results: Occurrence of TMD was significantly higher in menopausal than non-menopausal women (P<0.001). All the TMD criteria based on Helkimo Di except range of mandibular movement were significantly more common in menopausal women. The range of mandibular movement was not significantly different between menopausal and non-menopausal women (P=0.178). Conclusion: The results from this study show that TMD can be considered more common and severe in menopausal than non-menopausal women. This finding indicates that, similar to other conditions in menopausal women such as arthritis and osteoporosis, TMD should be taken into consideration by dental and medical professionals.

Wilde the "Pervert": Oscar and Transnational (Roman Catholic) Religion

  • In late Victorian England, a "pervert" meant two things. One meaning designated a person who "turned" or converted from one sect of Christianity to another. In Wilde's time this referred specifically to converts from the established state Church of England to the transnational Roman Catholic Church. The other, newer meaning designated someone who turned from conventional heterosexual relations to a (as yet unnamed) homosexual orientation. In the context of the late Victorian empire, both were considered dangerous. The rising social and political influence of Roman Catholicism appeared threatening as a transnational Church invading a national one. For the Anglican Church of England, this crisis was played out what came to be known as the Oxford Movement, still influential during Wilde's time as a student there from 1874 to 1878. What is interesting in Wilde's life, as in his work, is the way he himself played with the dangerous transgressions inherent in being a "pervert." Sexually, he was converted to same-sex love while still a married man. In terms of religion, he remained fascinated with Catholicism, allegedly converting on his death-bed. But what is provocative is way that Wilde used one "perversion" to play into another: so that in such works as The Picture of Dorian Gray and Salome, his version of a kind of anti-Catholic Catholicism becomes a site of sexual desire, and sexual desire expression for that kind of spirituality, which, as unrequited longing, can ultimately n find no object adequate to its imagination.

Effects of Elastic Resistance Training on Biomechanical Ability in College Taekwondo Athletes

  • Purpose: This study compared the effects of the elastic resistance and general training for college Taekwondo athletes, and investigated the biomechanical ability and lower extremity function according to the movement speed of the knee joint. Methods: Twenty university student Taekwondo athletes participated voluntarily in this study. The subjects performed general resistance training for four weeks, followed by elastic resistance training for another four weeks. The biomechanical parameters during the fast and slow isokinetic conditions, Y-balance ability, and vertical jump ability were measured three times: before training, after general resistance training, and after elastic resistance training. Statistical analysis was performed under isokinetic conditions and the intervention effect. Results: The biomechanical ability differed significantly between fast and slow isokinetic conditions (p<0.05). An analysis of the training method revealed a significant difference in the maximum knee extension speed and the posterior-lateral direction of the Y-balance test (p<0.05). Conclusion: Elastic resistance training had a more positive effect on the functional task performance than biomechanical factors related to muscular strength compared to general resistance training. In addition, speed-related knee biomechanical information of subjects with strong physical abilities could be utilized in sports physiotherapy.

여대생의 이러닝 학습태도 변화에 따른 뇌파 분석 (EEG Analysis of Learning Attitude Change of Female College Student on e-Learning)

  • 생체신호인 뇌파를 이용하여 이러닝 학습자의 학습태도를 파악하고 그에 따른 적절한 피드백을 제공하여 학습자의 학습효율을 극대화하려는 연구의 일환으로 여대생을 대상으로 학습자의 학습태도와 뇌파를 분석하여 이들의 상관관계를 밝혀보고자 한다. 학습자가 학습에 집중하는 태도와 그렇지 않은 태도에 대해 뇌파의 파워 스펙트럼을 추출하여 학습자의 뇌파가 어떻게 반응하는지에 중점을 두어 연구하였다. 학습에 집중하는 태도의 대조군으로 산만한 태도와 눈감은 태도를 설정하여 실험을 진행하였다. 학습에 집중하는 태도에서는 집중도가 산만한 태도에 비하여 높게 나타나고 이완지표는 낮게 나타나며, 클릭과 눈굴림과 같은 산만한 태도에서는 주의지표와 잡파 비율이 높게 나왔다. 특히, 눈을 감았을 때는 알파 세타 비율이 1이하로 나타나 눈을 뜬 다른 상태와 뚜렷이 구분되었다.
