  • Role of landing gear is to absorb energy which is generated by aircraft ground maneuvering and landing. Generally, in order to absorb the impact energy, oleo-pneumatic type shock absorber is used in aircraft landing gear. Oleo-pneumatic type shock absorber has a good energy absorption efficiency and is light in weight because structure of oleo-pneumatic type shock strut is relatively simple. In this study, dynamic load analysis for swinging arm type landing gear was performed to predict landing loads. Modeling of landing gear was conducted with MSC.ADAMS, and dynamic landing loads were analyzed based on ADS-29. Optimum landing loads were generated through adjustment of damping orifice and the analysis results were presented with various aircraft attitude.

  • Extensive reinforced concrete interior beam-column joints with beams of different depths have been used in large industrial buildings and tall building structures under the demand of craft or function. The seismic behavior of the joint, particularly the relationship between deformation and strength in the core region of these eccentric reinforced concrete beam-column joints, has rarely been investigated. This paper performed a theoretical study on the effects of geometric features on the shear strength of the reinforced concrete interior beam-column joints with beams of different depths, which was critical factor in seismic behavior. A new model was developed to analyze the relationship between the shear strength and deformation based on the Equivalent Strut Mechanism (ESM), which combined the truss model and the diagonal strut model. Additionally, this paper developed a simplified calculation method to estimate the shear strength of these type eccentric joints. The accuracy of the model was verified as the modifying analysis data fitted to the test results, which was a loading test of 6 eccentric joints conducted previously.

  • This paper reports an evaluation method on the shear strength of interior beam-column joints composed of steel beams and reinforced concrete columns(RCS). The shear strength is generally calculated by the sum of the nominal shear resistance of a steel web panel and concrete elements. In this paper, the shear strength is calculated based on the compression strut theory instead of compression field theory. Design equations presented herein are evaluated through comparison with existing experimental results. The comparisons between experimental and calculated results show an excellent agreement.

  • This paper reports experimental investigation on shear behavior of steel reinforced concrete (SRC) shallow floor beam, where the steel shape is embedded in concrete and the high strength bolts are used to transfer the shear force along the interface between the steel shape and concrete. Six specimens were conducted aiming to provide information on shear performance and explore the shear bearing capacity of SRC shallow floor beams. The effects of the height of concrete slab, the size and the type of the steel section on shear performance of beams were also analyzed in the test. Based on the strut-and-tie model, the shear strength of the SRC shallow floor beam was proposed. Experimental results showed that composite shallow floor beam exhibited satisfactory composite behavior and all of the specimen failed in shear failure. The shear bearing capacity increased with the increasing of height of concrete slab and the size of steel shape, and the bearing capacities of beam specimens with castellated steel shape was slightly lower than those of specimens with H-shaped steel section. Furthermore, the calculations for evaluating the shear bearing capacity of SRC shallow floor beam were verified to be reasonable.

  • The responses of a 1:5 scale 3-story masonry-infilled RC frame which was designed only for gravity loads were simulated by using a nonlinear analysis program, DRAIN-2DX The objective of this study is to verify the correlation between the experimental and analytical responses of masonry-infilled RC frame. It is concluded from this comparison that the strength and stillness of the whole structure can be predicted with quite high reliability using compressive strut (compression link element, Type 09) while some local behavior cannot be described reasonably.

  • In this study, the dynamic characteristics for the wheel-type landing gear system of helicopter have been analyzed. Nonlinear multi-body dynamic models of the landing gear system are constructed and the equations of motion, kinematics and internal forces of shock strut are considered. In addition, flexibility effect of the wheel axle with equivalent beam element is taken into account. General purpose commercial finite code, SAMCEF which includes MECANO module is applied. The results of dynamic simulation for various landing and weight conditions are presented and compared with each other. Based on the results, characteristics of impact dynamic behaviors of the landing gear system are practically investigated.

  • This paper is concerned with the calculation of the wave resistance for SWATH ships based on a low order Rankine source panel method. Two types of free surface boundary conditions, Dawson type (double model approximation) and Kelvin type (free stream approximation) are used. For the free surface boundary calculation, an analytic differentiation is employed instead of implementing a finite difference scheme. Then, the radiation condition is satisfied by, so called, the panel shift method. The numerical results using the above two methods are compared with those using the thin ship/modified slender body approximation and also with the experimental results. The SWATH models considered are a single strut SWATH and a twin strut SWATH together with the variations of two demihull separation distance. In order to prove the validity of the program developed, the numerical calculations for a Wigley mono hull and Wigley twin hulls are compared with the available experimental results.

  • This paper presents the test results of RCS(Reinforced Concrete Steel) beam-column joint with various types of transverse reinforcements such as small-column-type transverse reinforcements, four-piece ㄱ-shape assembled hoops and four-piece ㄱ-shape welded hoops. Five interior beam-column joint specimens were tested to examine the seismic performance and the shear strengths. From the test results, it was found that all the specimens sustained their strength at large levels of story drift(${\theta}$=0.035) without significant loss of strength and stiffness. Therefore it was concluded that the seismic performance and shear strength of the proposed RCS joint are at least the same as those of the specimen with conventional reinforcing details. Also, the contribution of the outer panel to the shear strength of the joint should be evaluated by the compression strut mechanism rather than compression field mechanism.

  • In this study, dynamic analysis of a passenger car is carried out to analyze ride quality over a random road profile. The front suspension of the car is a MacPherson strut type and the rear suspension is a multi- link type. The following five different models are constructed and compared to see the effects of engine vibration and chassis flexibility in the ride quality. (1) one rigid chassis model, (2) a rigid chassis and rigid engine model, (3) a rigid engine and flexible chassis model with one vibration mode, (4) one flexible chassis model with six engine vibration modes and one chassis vibration mode, (5) one flexible chassis model with seven vibration modes and four static correction modes. The result shows that engine vibration modes and the first bending mode of the chassis are important in the ride quality.
