Synthesis of Carbon Nanotubes Supported PtCo Electrocatalysts and Its Characterization for the Cathode Electrode of PEMFC (탄소나노튜브에 담지된 PtCo 촉매 제조 및 PEMFC Cathode 전극 특성)

  • The electrocatalytic behavior of the PtCo catalyst supported on the multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) has been evaluated and compared with commercial Pt/C catalyst in a polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell(PEMFC). A PtCo/MWNTs electrocatalyst with a Pt:Co atomic ratio of 79:21 was synthesized and applied to a cathode of PEMFC. The structure and morphology of the synthesized PtCo/MWNTs electrocatalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. As a result of the X-ray studies, the crystal structure of a PtCo particle was determined to be a face-centered cubic(FCC) that was the same as the platinum structure. The particle size of PtCo in PtCo/MWNTs and Pt in Pt/C were 2.0 nm and 2.7 nm, respectively, which were calculated by Scherrer's formula from X-ray diffraction data. As a result we concluded that the specific surface activity of PtCo/MWNTs is superior to Pt/C's activity because of its smaller particle size. From the electrochemical impedance measurement, the membrane electrode assembly(MEA) fabricated with PtCo/MWNTs showed smaller anodic and cathodic activation losses than the MEA with Pt/C, although ohmic loss was the same as Pt/C. Finally, from the evaluation of cyclic voltammetry(CV), the unit cell using PtCo/MWNTs as the cathode electrocatalyst showed slightly higher fuel cell performance than the cell with a commercial Pt/C electrocatalyst.

The Genetic Organization of the Linear Mitochondrial Plasmid mlp1 from Pleurotus ostreatus NFFA2

  • The structure of plasmid mlp1, a linear 10.2kb mitochondrial plasmid of Pleurotus ostreatus NFF A2 was determined by restriction enzyme mapping and partial sequencing. The plasmid encodes at least two proteins; a putative RNA polymerase showing homology to yeast mitochondrial RNA polymerase and to viral-encoded RNA polymerases, and a putative DNA polymerase showing significant homology to the family B thpe DNA polymerases. It also contains terminal inverted repeat sequences at both ends which are longer than 274 bp. A 1.6 kb EcoRI restriction fragment of m1p1 containing the putative RNA polymerase gene did not hybridize to the nuclear or motochondrial genomes from P. ostreatus, suggesting that it may encode plasmidspecific RNA polymerase. The gene fragment also did not hybridize with the RNA polymerase gene (RPO41) from Saccaromyces cerevisiae. The relationship between genes in m1p1 and those in another linear plasmid pC1K1 of Claviceps purpurea was examined by DNA hybridization. The result indicates that the genes for DNA and RNA polymerases are not closely related with those in C. purpurea.

Wideband ENG Zeroth-Order Resonant Antenna Having Mushroom Shape (버섯 형태를 갖는 광대역 ENG 영차 공진 안테나)

  • This Letter presents a wideband ENG(Epsilon Negative) ZOR(Zeroth-Order Resonant) antenna designed on a microstrip line. It has a mushroom structure and its size is only $7.65{\times}1.31{\times}2.37\;mm$(or $0.306{\times}0.053{\times}0.095\;{\lambda}_0$ at 12 GHz) owing to zeroth-order resonance. The design procedures with closed form solutions are provided using transmission line theory considering radiation loss. The measured antenna bandwidth is about 20.0 % at 9.2 GHz and antenna gain is 7.1 dBi despite the compact size.

  • This paper presents a production planning algorithm for minimizing the costs of production and subcontracting in SCM (supply chain management) environment. In our SCM environment, the several local plants that aye dispersed geographically produce parts and products. In this environment, we have to decide the production volumes of both parts and products considering the BOM (bill-of-material) structure to meet the fixed order quantity or forecasted demand quantity. Each plant produces the specified parts of product with finite production capacity. There exist subcontracting decisions relevant to the production capacity of each plant except the core process plant, and when we use the subcontractor's capacities we should be charged for the fixed subcontracting fees. The objective of this study is to solve the production planning problem, which minimizes the total costs of production, inventory, setup, and subcontracting under constraints of production and subcontracting capacity. For this problem, an integrated production planning model based on the multi-level capacitated lot sizing problem was formulated, and efficient decomposition algorithm was proposed. The experimental investigation shows that the proposed heuristic generates quite good solutions at very low computational costs.

  • To improve the reliability and quality of software system, many studies of the testing based on state-transition diagram have been in progress. Existing studies tried to solve the complexity problem of state-transition diagram. But the development of test case demands the better way to derive and manage the state diagram with low complexity. In this paper, the STMT(State-Transition Mapping Tree) is proposed to decrease the complexity of state diagram without changing or loosing the original state or transition information. Comparing with other methods, the proposed method turns out to be less complex.

Why Do Laggards Resist the IT Adoption in Public Service? : A Case of Expressway Hi-Pass System (공공서비스 IT수용에 대한 사용자 저항요인 : 고속도로 하이패스시스템 사례)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is (1) to empirically examine why laggards resist IT adoption in public service and (2) to investigate the relationship between resistance and negative behavioral intention. Methods: The questionnaire survey was conducted on expressway users who do not use High-pass system. The collected 232 samples were analyzed using structure equation model method with AMOS 22.0. Results: Resistance is found to be a statistically significant factor affecting intention to reject. Also, incompatibility, privacy concern, status quo inertia and relative advantage are found to be statistically significant factors affecting resistance. Conclusion: Laggards have a tendency to intend to reject IT adoption rather than to postpone. They are affected not by monetary, procedural aspect associated with purchasing or registering OBU(On Board Unit). Incompatibility and relative advantage which are inherent attributes of Hi-pass system are more influential factors than privacy concern and status quo inertia. They make ethical and emotional decision partially affected by public-social factors.

Development of a muon detector based on a plastic scintillator and WLS fibers to be used for muon tomography system

  • Muon tomography is a useful method for monitoring special nuclear materials (SNMs) such as spent nuclear fuel inside dry cask storage. Multiple Coulomb scattering of muons can be used to provide information about the 3-dimensional structure and atomic number(Z) of the inner materials. Tomography using muons is less affected by the shielding material and less harmful to health than other measurement methods. We developed a muon detector for muon tomography, which consists of a plastic scintillator, 64 long wavelength-shifting (WLS) fibers attached to the top of the plastic scintillator, and silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) connected to both ends of each WLS fiber. The muon detector can acquire X and Y positions simultaneously using a position determination algorithm. The design parameters of the muon detector were optimized using DETECT2000 and Geant4 simulations, and a muon detector prototype was built based on the results. Spatial resolution measurement was performed using simulations and experiments to evaluate the feasibility of the muon detector. The experimental results were in good agreement with the simulation results. The muon detector has been confirmed for use in a muon tomography system.

Improvement research for impact strength of nylon66/silicate composites (나일론66/실리케이트 복합체의 충격특성 개선 연구)

  • A study of the improvement in the impact strength is required to apply Nylon 66/silicate composites as an automobile material. Nylon 66/silicate composites were prepared using a twin screw extruder in case of a silicate treatment by ${\gamma}$-APS (S-silicate) and the addition of an octene ${\alpha}$ olefin grafted by maleic anhydride (PE-g-MAH). The chemical structure of the silane treated silicate was measured by Fourier transform infra-red (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The chemical reaction was confirmed by the decrease in the FT-IR intensity of the OH stretching vibration. The thermal properties, intercalation structure, and Izod impact strength were measured by DSC, TGA, XRD, and Izod impact tester. There was no significant effect on the degradation temperature of the Nylon66/silicate composite, but the crystallization temperature and crystallinity increased slightly in the case of the Nylon66/silicate composites. This suggests that the additives act as heterogeneous nuclei on the Nylon 66 matrix. The Izod impact test indicated that S-silicate enhanced the impact performance by up to 24%.

Design of Wideband Thin Absorber Using Resistive Cross-Shaped Surface Structures (저항성 십자 표면 구조를 이용한 광대역 박형 흡수체 설계)

  • This paper presents a design method for thin but wideband absorbers using resistive sheets. Its equivalent circuit consists of a series RLC resonant circuit and a short-terminated transmission line. Based on this equivalent circuit, we presented the three conditions for an electromagnetic absorber which has a thickness less than a quarter wavelength and wide absorption bandwidth at center frequency. By using an root-finding algorithm, the equivalent resistance, capacitance, and inductance of the absorbers are obtained. These equivalent circuit values for the absorber surface can be realized by a 2D periodic cross-shaped structure which has required surface resistance. Using the design method, we have designed the absorber which has 18.75 mm($67.5^{\circ}$ electrical length) thickness and 90 % absorption bandwidth of 116 % bandwidth at 3 GHz.

  • Management of the existing traffic network and understanding current traffic conditions is the most important and effective way to solve traffic congestion. This research investigates the status of Korea expressway through the Speed-Flow-Density diagram and finds the best suitable queueing model for each area. Dynamic structure in the queueing model enables us to reflect the structural change of the road in case of traffic congestion. To find the best model and estimate the parameters, we use the Newton-Raphson method. Finally, we examine the road efficiency in view of the optimal speed and density using the conditional distribution of speed and density of a S-F-D diagram.
