석조 홍예아치교의 구조적 안정성 평가시스템 개발 (Development of a Structural Safety Evaluation System for Stone Voussoir Arch Bridges)

  • 압축력에 강한 석조 홍예아치교의 경우 재료적 음력한계보다는 구조적 형상의 불안정성에 의해서 구조물이 붕괴된다. 이러한 특성을 고려하면, 석조 홍예아치교의 구조적 안정성 평가에는 구조물의 붕괴기구 형상에 초점을 둔 한계상태 해석이 보다 적합하다. 이 연구에서는 한계상태 해석법을 이용하여 건식법(dry construction)으로 축조된 우리나라 석조 홍예아치교의 구조적 거동을 살펴보고, 이 결과를 구조적 안정성 평가시스템 개발에 이용하고자 한다. 이 연구결과는 우리나라 석조 홍예아치교의 구조적 거동을 이해하는데 도움이 되며, 향후 문화재 유지관리 측면에서 공학적 판단기준을 주리라 기대한다.

Performance of TMDs on nonlinear structures subjected to near-fault earthquakes

  • Tuned mass dampers (TMD) are devices employed in vibration control since the beginning of the twentieth century. However, their implementation for controlling the seismic response in civil structures is more recent. While the efficiency of TMD on structures under far-field earthquakes has been demonstrated, the convenience of its employment against near-fault earthquakes is still under discussion. In this context, the study of this type of device is raised, not as an alternative to the seismic isolation, which is clearly a better choice for new buildings, but rather as an improvement in the structural safety of existing buildings. Seismic records with an impulsive character have been registered in the vicinity of faults that cause seismic events. In this paper, the ability of TMD to control the response of structures that experience inelastic deformations and eventually reach collapse subject to the action of such earthquakes is studied. The results of a series of nonlinear dynamic analyses are presented. These analyses are performed on a numerical model of a structure under the action of near-fault earthquakes. The structure analyzed in this study is a steel frame which behaves as a single degree of freedom (SDOF) system. TMD with different mass values are added on the numerical model of the structure, and the TMD performance is evaluated by comparing the response of the structure with and without the control device.

부식을 고려한 선각거더의 최종강도 신뢰성 (Ultimate Strength Based Reliability of Corroded Ship Hulls)

  • 노후선박은 부식, 피로균열 등의 구조손상을 입고 있으며, 구조손상이 심각하면 중대한 해난사고를 초래할 위험성이 높다. 선각붕괴에 의한 선박의 침몰사고를 미연에 방지하기 위하여는 구조손상에 기인된 각종 불확실성을 고려한 노후선박의 최종강도 신뢰성을 평가할 필요가 있다. 본 논문에서는 부식에 의한 선체구조부재의 판두께 감소효과를 고려하여 선체구조의 최종강도를 기준으로한 신뢰성 평가기법을 제시하였다. 이를 위해 선체구조의 부식 속도모델을 선급에서 제시하는 데이타를 바탕으로 설정하고, 부식효과를 고려한 신뢰성 한계상태방정식을 도출하였으며, 최종강도 신뢰성은 SORM (second-order reliability method)을 적용하여 계산하였다. 본 기법을 이중선체 유조선에 적용하여 선령의 증가에 따른 단면계수 및 최종강도 신뢰성의 감소특성을 고찰하였다.

붕괴방지 수준을 고려한 국내 고층 아파트의 성능기반 내진설계 (Performance-Based Seismic Design of High-rise Apartment Buildings in Korea Considering Collapse Prevention Level)

  • The objective of this study is to apply performance-based seismic design to high-rise apartment buildings in Korean considering collapse prevention level. The possible issues during its application were studied and the suggestions were made based on the findings from the performance-based seismic design of a building with typical residential multi-unit layout. The lateral-force-resisting system of the building is ordinary shear walls system with a code exception of height limit. In order to allow the exception, the serviceability and the stability of the ordinary shear wall structure need to be evaluated to confirm that it has the equivalent performance as the one designed under the Korean Building Code 2009. The structure was evaluated whether it satisfied its performance objectives to withstand Service Level and Maximum Considered Earthquake.

차체구조부재용 알루미늄 CFRP 혼성사각부재의 축 압궤 특성 (Axial Collapse Characteristics of Aluminum CFRP Compound Square Members for Vehicle Structural Members)

  • An aluminum or CFRP (Carbon Fiber ReinfDrced Plastics)is representative one of light-weight materials but its axial collapse mechanism is different from each other. The aluminum member absorbs energy by stable plastic deformation, while the CFRP member absorbs energy by unstable brittle failure with higher specific strength and stiffness than those in the aluminum member. In an attempt to achieve a synergy effect by combining the two members, aluminum CFRP compound square members were manufactured, which are composed of aluminum members wrapped with CFRP outside aluminum square members with different fiber orientation angle and thickness of CFRP, and axial collapse tests were performed fur the members. The axial collapse characteristics of the compound members were analyzed and compared with those of the respective aluminum members and CFRP members. Test results showed that the collapse of the aluminum CFRP compound member complemented unstable brittle failure of the CFRP member due to ductile characteristics of the inner aluminum member. The collapse modes were categorized into four modes under the iuluence of the fiber orientation angle and thickness of CFRP. The absorbed energy Per unit mass, which is in the light-weight aspect was higher in the aluminum CFRP compound member than that in the aluminum member and the CFRP member alone.

지진재해도를 고려한 철골 보통중심가새골조의 위험도기반 내진성능 (Risk-Targeted Seismic Performance of Steel Ordinary Concentrically Braced Frames Considering Seismic Hazard)

  • 미국의 내진설계기준인 ASCE/SEI 7-10은 구조물 붕괴성능에 대한 불확실성을 고려하지 않는 등재해도 기반 내진설계의 문제점을 해결하기 위해 위험도 기반 내진설계 개념을 도입하였다. 하지만 현행 국내 내진설계기준의 경우 한반도 내에서 발생한 큰 규모의 지진기록과 구조물의 붕괴성능과 관련된 연구의 부족으로 위험도 기반 내진설계 개념을 반영하지 않고 있다. 본 연구에서는 철골 보통중심가새골조를 표본건물로 선정하여 위험도 기반 내진성능평가를 수행하였다. 건물이 위치한 지역, 높이, 지반조건을 변수로 바탕으로 표본건물에 대한 붕괴성능 평가를 수행하였으며, 국내 지진기록의 특성을 반영할 수 있는 경험적 스펙트럴 형상 예측 모델을 활용하여 지진재해도 곡선을 작성하였다. 이를 활용하여 국내 주요 도시에 위치한 철골 보통중심가새골조의 붕괴확률을 위험도 적분 개념에 따라 평가하였다. 국내 주요 도시에 위치한 철골 보통중심가새골조의 붕괴확률을 평가한 결과, 현행 건축구조기준에 따라 설계된 표본건물은 본 연구에서 고려한 해석 변수에 따라 붕괴확률에 상당한 차이를 보였다. 특히 국내 건축구조기준의 경우 철골 보통중심가새골조에 대한 높이제한이 없어 일부 고층표본건물에서 목표 위험도인 50년간 1%의 붕괴확률을 초과하는 것으로 평가되었다.

Analysis and tests of flexibly connected thin-walled channel frames

  • The analysis and tests of thin-walled channel frames including nonlinear flexible or semi-rigid connection behaviour is presented. The semi-rigid connection behaviour is modelled using a mathematical approximation of the connection flexibility-moment relationship. Local instability such as local buckling and torsional flexural buckling of the member are included in the analysis. The full response of the frame, up to the collapse load, can be predicted. Experimental investigation was carried out on a series of simple double storey symmetrical frames with the purpose of verifying the accuracy and validity of the analysis. Agreement between the theoretical and experimental results is acceptable. The investigation also shows that connection flexibility and local instability such as local buckling and torsional flexural buckling can affect the behaviour and strength of thin-walled frames significantly. The results can also provide further insight into the advanced study of practical structures where interaction between flexible connections and phenomenon associated with thin-walled members are present.

대각선 철골 중심가새골조의 지질동하에서의 동적불안정 거동 (Dynamic Instability of Diagonally Braced Steel Frames under Seismic Excitation)

  • Concentrically braced steel frames are considered as being quite pone to soft-story response due to the degradation in brace compressive resistance after buckling under severe ground motions. When combined with the system P-Delta effects, collapse of the concentrically brsced frames by dynamic instability becomes highly probable. In this stidy, a new, relatively simple dynamic instability coefficient was proposed for diagonally braced steel flames by explicitly considering the strength degradation of the brace after buckling. Nonlinear dynamic analysis results showed that the dynamic instability coefficient proposed in this study predicted collapse limit state more consistently than the conventional one which ignores the strength degradation of the brace.

Non-elastic responses of tall steel buildings subjected to across-wind forces

  • This paper presents an analytical method which takes into account the non-linearity of individual members, and discusses some case study results. It also discusses the relationship between member non-elastic behavior and excitation duration, and the relationship between member fracture and overall structure behavior. It is clearly demonstrated that the frame already shows almost unstable behavior due to long-columnization just before the occurrence of a column fracture. Then, a column fracture immediately induces a structural collapse mechanism.

  • In this paper, collapse test of thin-walled structural member widely used for automobiles is carried out under static compression load to observe the effects of cross- sectional shape and material on the energy absorbing capacity in the viewpoint of cras- hworthiness. Specimens tested consist of two sorts(Aluminium, CFRP) and configur- ations(Circular, Square) with variation in thickness. Also, comparisons of Al circular and square specimens are made to find the influence of difference in shape on the energy absorbing capability according as the thickness of specimen varies.
