Structural Behavior of Sawdust-Mixing Concrete (폐톱밥 혼입 콘크리트의 구조거동에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • Behavior of saw-dust concrete has not studied because many people have thought that saw-dust concrete cannot be applicable for structural member, up to now. This study is to findout how much the concrete can be structurally applicated. 5mm grid sieve was used to select satisfactory sawdust for better concrete quality. Test molds size of ${\phi}10{\times}20cm$ long were made of normal without sawdust, 0.05%, 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6%, 0.8%, 1.0%, 1.2%, 1.4%, 1.6%, 1.8% 2.0%, for making concrete strengh of 180kg, 210kg, 240kg, 270kg which they are normally used in practice presently. A various strengths tests such as compressive splitting tensile, flexible strength behavior of structural member named beam using size of $20{\times}30{\times}120cm$ have been done for the structural aspects. Tensile strength shows that it can be more affected than higher strength of it.

  • This study is to measure the creep coefficient by 3 days, 7 days and 28 days in the age when loading for the quality assessment of $350kgf/cm^2$ in the high-strength concrete. And it is to analyze the behavior of creep coefficient by applying the experimental data though the compressive strength test, the elastic modulus test and the dry shrinkage test to the ACI-209, AASHTO-94 and CEB/FIP-90, the prediction mode, and the basis of concrete structural design. Also it is to analyze the behavior of short-term creep coefficient during 91 days in the age when loading through the experiment by using the regression analysis, the statistical theory. As applying it to the long-term behavior during 365 days and comparing with the creep prediction mode and examining it, the result from the analysis of the quality of the concrete is as follows. As the result of comparison and analysis about the ACI-209, AASHTO-94 and CEB/FIP-90, the prediction mode, and the basis of concrete structural design, the normal Portland cement class 1 shows the approximate value with the prediction of GEE/PIP-90 and the basis of concrete structural design, but in case of the prediction of ACI-209 and AASHTO-94, there would be worry of underestimation in the application.

  • This research deals with the process of conducting a reinforced concrete slab loading test of a Residential Complex Project at the Shatt Al Arab District which is located in southern Iraq. The purpose of the test which represents a destructive test is to evaluate the structural behavior of the slab condition state during and after the examination of the test process in order to ascertain the ability of the slab ceiling to withstand the loads generated during the use of the building. The test was carried out accordant to ACI 437.2-13 code. The reason for this test is the postponed 8 years of building project construction. Concrete blocks were used to simulate and conduct a loading test of 30-tons for 3 days. The central point has been installed to measure the slab deflection that occurred during the test. The results showed that both the total deflection and residual deflections were lesser than the permissible values according to the ACI 437.2-13, the RC slab behavior was mainly linear structural behave, and that the purpose of the examination was achieved. Finally, a new method was introduced to the assessment of the slab condition at the support which is found in good condition.

Evaluation of Deformation Behavior of Nuclear Structural Materials under Cyclic Loading Conditions via Cyclic Stress-Strain Test (반복 응력-변형률 시험을 통한 반복하중 조건에서 원전 주요 구조재료의 변형거동 평가)

  • This study investigated deformation behavior of major nuclear structural materials under cyclic loading conditions via cyclic stress-strain test. The cyclic stress-strain tests were conducted on SA312 TP316 stainless steel and SA508 Gr.3 Cl.1 low-alloy steel, which are used as materials for primary piping and reactor pressure vessel nozzle respectively, under cyclic load with constant strain amplitude and constant load amplitude at room temperature (RT) and $316^{\circ}C$. From the results of tests, the cyclic hardening and softening behavior, stabilized cyclic stress-strain behavior, and ratcheting behavior of both materials were investigated at both RT and $316^{\circ}C$. In addition, appropriate considerations for cyclic deformation behavior in the structural integrity evaluation of major nuclear components under excessive seismic condition were discussed.

Structural Performance Evaluation of System Scaffolding for Elevator Installation Work (엘리베이터 설치 작업용 시스템 비계의 구조 성능 평가)

  • This study performed a structural performance evaluation of a system scaffolding for elevator installation work developed in previous studies. The structural performance was evaluated via a structural test conducted to apply the working load specified in the design standard. The deflection of the horizontal member and the stress of each member constituting the system scaffolding were measured. Consequently, the structural safety evaluation including structural behavior and required performance was performed using the deflection and stresses measured from the structural test. The structural test and safety evaluation results based on the heavy working load corresponding to the design load indicated that the deflection, which is the performance criterion of the horizontal member, did not exceed the allowable value. Further, each member's stress, which is a safety evaluation indicator, did not exceed the allowable strength for both horizontal and vertical members with bending behavior and fordable bracing with tensile behavior, while also satisfying the required safety factor. In addition, the results confirmed the safety against deformation, partial damage, and destruction owing to excessive and maximum load. Therefore, the system scaffolding developed in this study satisfies both the structural performance and safety required by the design standards; thus, it can be applied to elevator installation work sites.

Creep-Fatigue Crack Growth Behavior of a Structure with Crack Like Defects at the Welds

  • A study on a creep-fatigue crack growth behavior has been carried out for a cylindrical structure with weldments by using a structural test and an evaluation according to the assessment procedures. The creep-fatigue crack growth behavior following the creep-fatigue crack initiation has been assessed by using the French A16 procedure and the conservatism for the present structural test has been examined. The structural specimen is a welded cylindrical shell made of 316 L stainless steel (SS) for one half of the cylinder and 304 SS for the other half. In the creep-fatigue test, the hold time under a tensile load which produces the primary nominal stress of 45 MPa was one hour at $600^{\circ}C$ and creep-fatigue loads of 600 cycles were applied. The evaluation results for the creep-fatigue crack propagation were compared with those of the observed images from the structural test. The assessment results for the creep-fatigue crack behavior according to the French Al6 procedure showed that the Al6 is overly conservative for the creep-fatigue crack propagation in the present case with a short hold time of one hour.

  • This study presents an experimental study of the structural behavior for steel plate-concrete column-to-steel girder connections. Experiments were carried out to investigate the moment-rotation characteristics, failure behavior and ultimate moment capacity of these connections. The results of this experimental study involving three welded moment-resisting connections subjected to cyclic loading are presented. The specimens were fabricated at full scale to evaluate their hysteretic behavior. A description of the test specimens, the details of the joint, the test system and the testing methods are described. The test results showed that the structural behavior of these composite connections was influenced by the connection details.

  • The behavior of composite beams, which are composed of cold-formed steel sheeting and normal strength concrete, have been studied. An analytical method has been developed to trace the nonlinear behavior of composite beams. The nonlinear material properties of steel sheeting, reinforcing steel bar and concrete have been included in the analysis. The nonlinear moment-curvature relation of the composite beam has been described using a cross section analysis method and a simple power model, separately. The load-deflection behavior of the beams has been simulated by step-by-step numerical integration method and is compared with test results.

  • Leakage in the structure due to the irregular flow of groundwater in the underground structure penetrates into internal spaces such as underground parking lots and basement through underground walls, which is expensive in terms of maintenance of the building. In this study, various composite waterproofing methods installed on the outer walls of underground structures were selected to evaluate the structural performance of composite specimens due to bending behavior through experiments and analysis on bending test behavior on concrete attachment surfaces.

An Experimental Studies on Structural Behavior of Reinforced Concrete Beam-Columns with Enlarged Cross Sections (단면 증설된 보-기둥 부재의 구조성능에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • The major objects of this study is to investigate experimentally the strengthening effects and post-failure behavior of reinforced concrete beam-columns with enlarged sections. Tests are carried out to evaluate the influences of axial load intensities, thickness of encased steel plates and reinforcing bars in the grouted parts on the structural behavior of the specimens. The test results show that the amount of reinforcing bars and thickness of steel plate significantly affect on the structural behavior. The ultimate moment capacities of reinforced concrete beam-columns encased with 2mm-thick steel plate are significantly increased to about 10 times of those of unstrengthened specimens.
