  • The paper is mainly concerned with the applications tn develop an optimum structural design procedure for hatchcoverless container ship. L.R rules are applied to determine the scantlings of the longitudinal members. As for an object function of midship section design, the total sectional area of all the longitudinal members for midship section is selected. The SUMT procedure combined with direct search method is applied to the solution of nonlinear optimum design problem to find a optimum midship section arrangement. The results of optimization study show that the weight of model ship may be saved about 8.0% per unit length.

  • The rotor blade of a helicopter is the key structural units and provides three components such as vertical lifting force, horizontal propulsive force and control force. With advancements in aerospace technology, composite materials have been widely used in lightweight structures. In addition, composites show great potential on the design of rotor blades due to the advantages of strength, durability and weight of the materials. In the operational condition of a helicopter, it is required the vibration characteristics of the rotating blades for avoiding resonance and analysis of efficient performance prediction et al. In this study, the CAMRAD-II is used for analyzing the vibration characteristics of rotating composite blades. The effects of rotating speed and collective angles are investigated. Also, the numerical results are compared with experimental data.

  • Bridge decks are one of the main structural components that are most suitable for utilizing the advantages of FRP materials due to the high strength weight ratio of FRP materials. Design codes for the design of FRP bridge decks should be established to apply FRP materials for bridge decks effectively. At present, design codes are relatively well established for the use of FRP materials as reinforcements in concrete structures. However, design codes have not yet been provided for the structures made of FRP as a main construction material. In this study, for the purpose of preparing design code provisions, reliability analyses were performed to evaluate target level of safety and serviceability on GFRP decks. Based on the results, several guidelines for the development of design codes are suggested.

  • As developing the information society, Lighting Emitted diode(LED) which is light source for illumination of next generation is attracted public attention. LED have many problem as narrow light view angle, high price, drift phenomenon of color coordinate, high heating problem for lower power, lower weight and small size. So, many researches have continued in a illumination as LED module type. in this problem, heating problem is very important and difficult and that is caused in decreasing phenomenon of brightness and drift phenomenon of color coordinate. so the problem of heating is urgent question for illumination of LED. In this paper, structural design of PCB changed as two type for solving the heating problem. also the properties of heating is analysed and optical properties is measured with heating image camera and spectrometer according to change in this design.

  • This paper introduces the part of efforts to develop a derivative type turboshaft engine from an existing baseline engine for multi-purpose helicopters aiming at 4000 kg of take-off weight for 10-12 passengers. As a first step in meeting the development goal of increasing the output power from 720 hp to 840hp with minimum modification, a two stage axial compressor was redesigned to obtain the higher pressure ratio by removing the inlet guide vane and increasing the chord length. As a result, a two stage axial compressor was designed to facilitate a flow rate of 3.04 kg/s, a pressure ratio of 2.01 and an adiabatic efficiency of $85\%$. Its performance tests were carried out and verification of test results and redesign are under progress. Aerodynamic and structural analyses of the preliminary design are mainly described in this paper.

  • In this paper, an optimization process using Genetic Algorithm (GA) that mimics biological processes is presented for optimum design of planar frames with semi-rigid connections by selecting suitable standard sections from a specified list taken from American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC). The stress constraints as indicated in AISC-LRFD (American Institute of Steel Construction - Load and Resistance Factor Design), maximum lateral displacement constraints and geometric constraints are considered for optimum design. Two different planar frames with semi-rigid connections taken from the literature are carried out first without considering concrete slab effects in finite element analyses and the results are compared with the ones available in literature. The same optimization procedures are then repeated for full and semi rigid planar frames with composite (steel and concrete) beams. A program is developed in MATLAB for all optimization procedures. Results obtained from this study proved that consideration of the contribution of the concrete on the behavior of the floor beams provides lighter planar frames.

  • This paper presents a spatial catenary cable element for the nonlinear analysis of cable-supported structures. An incremental-iterative solution based on the Newton-Raphson method is adopted for solving the equilibrium equation. As a result, the element stiffness matrix and nodal forces are determined, wherein the effect of self-weight and pretension are taken into account. In the case of the initial cable tension is given, an algorithm for form-finding of cable-supported structures is proposed to determine precisely the unstressed length of the cables. Several classical numerical examples are solved and compared with the other available numerical methods or experiment tests showing the accuracy and efficiency of the present elements.

  • A hydrophilic macromolecular network containing hydrophobic moieties has been prepared by free radical copolymerization of acrylamide and styrene in the presence of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and its potential as controlled drug delivery carrier was evaluated with tetracycline as a model antibiotic drug. The amount of drug was assayed spectrophotometrically. The network was characterized by optical microscopy, infra-red spectroscopy and structural parameters such as average molecular weight between cross1inks ($M_c$), cross1ink density (q) and number of elastically effective chains ($V_e$) were evaluated. It was found that with increasing concentration of PVA, ST and MBA in the hydrogel, the release rate initially increases but after definite concentrations of the above components the release rate falls. In the case of AM, release rate constantly decreases with increasing AM concentration in the hydrogel.

  • A comparative study of the new flexible double hull structure is presented as a collision energy absorbing system, which is constructed with mixed stringers comprising slant and straight stringers for the double hull tanker, The dimension and disposition of this mixed stringers are selected to give the maximum absorbing energy. From the viewpoint of collision energy absorbing efficiency, this structural system is compared with three other types of the double hull constructions with trapezoidal stiffener, stringer type and standard type of VLCC, 310K DWT, Based on the constant hull weight, the proposed double hull structure with mixed stringers shows a improved crashworthiness as the results.
