마그네슘 합금 AZ31B 판재를 이용한 자동차 하이브리드 후드 개발 프로세스 (Process Development for Automotive Hybrid Hood using Magnesium Alloy AZ31B Sheet)

  • Weight reduction while maintaining functional requirements is one of the major goals in the automotive industry. The use of lightweight magnesium alloys offers great potential for reducing weight because of the low density of these alloys. However, the formability and the surface quality of the final magnesium alloy product for auto-body structures are not acceptable without a careful optimization of the design parameters. In order to overcome some of the main formability limitations in the stamping of magnesium alloys, a new approach, the so-called "hybrid technology", has been recently proposed for body-in-white structural components. Within this approach, necessary level of mechanical joining can be obtained through the use of lightweight material-steel adhesion promoters. This paper presents the development process of an automotive hybrid hood assembly using magnesium alloy sheets. In the first set of material pairs, the selected materials are magnesium alloy AZ31B alloy and steel(SGCEN) as inner and outer panels, respectively. In order to optimize the design of the inner panel, the stamping process was analyzed with the finite element method (FEM). Laser welding by CW Nd:YAG were used to join the magnesium alloy sheets. Based on the simulation results and mechanical test results of the joints, the determination of die design variables and their influence on formability were discussed. Furthermore, a prototype based on the proposed design was manufactured and the static stiffness test was carried out. The results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed hybrid hood with a weight reduction of 25.7%.

전자기 진동을 이용한 Al-Si 합금의 조직 제어에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Structural Controlling of Al-Si Alloy by Using Electromagnetic Vibration)

  • 여러 전자기 재료 프로세싱 연구 중에서 연구 되어지지 않았던 Al-Si 합금의 조직제어를 직류 자기장과 교류 전류장을 사용하여 시도 하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 Al-Si 합금에서의 새로운 거시, 미시 조직제어를 하기 위해 사용된 전자기 진동의 영향을 조사하는 것이다. 전자기 진동이 초정 알루미늄의 형상 변화를 위해 낮은 진동수 (>60Hz)로 주어질 경우, 수지상의 형상이 구상화 형상으로 변해갔다. 전자기 진동이 공정 실리콘 형상 변화를 위해 주어졌을 경우, 높은 진동수 (>500Hz)에서 조대한 판상 조직이던 실리콘이 미세한 섬유상 조직으로 변화하고, 기계적 성질도 우수해졌다.

초탄성 거동을 고려한 NiTi 합금 튜브의 변형해석 (Finite Element Analysis of NiTi Alloy Tubes with the Superelastic Behavior)

  • NiTi alloy known as its shape memory effect also has superelastic characteristic, which makes it possible to be elastic under large deformation. Since the tensile strength of the alloy is very high and density is low compared to carbon steel, it can be applied to lightweight structural design. In order to design structures with shape memory alloy, finite element analysis is used and a constitutive algorithm based on Aurrichio's model is added to LS-DYNA as a user subroutine. Explicit time integration and shell element formulation are used to simulate thin-walled structures. The algorithm uses Drucker-Prager type loading condition to calculate martensite volume fraction during the transformation. The implemented algorithm is verified in uni-axial loading condition and martensite phase transformation can be detected well with the algorithm. In this study, as a energy absorbing structure, thin-walled tube is modeled with finite elements and the deformation behavior is studied. Simulation results has shown that the martensite transformation was generated in loading condition. After plastic deformation reached, the load decreases linearly without reverse martensite transformation.

  • Magnesium alloys are potentially useful as structural materials due to higher strength/weight ratio, heat conductivity and recyclability compared to other alloys. These alloys have attracted the interest of modern manufacturing such as the automobile, computer, communication and consumer electronic appliances industries. Hence welding techniques are required to be developed for these applications. Laser are known to be an excellent tool for them. This paper presents the laser weldability of AZ31 magnesium alloy with CW Nd:YAG laser. The low viscosity and surface tension of the melt pool make magnesium more difficult to weld than steel. As a result of this study, optimal process parameters could be obtained without weld defects. Also it was certain that cutting methods had influence on butt weldability.

  • This study was investigated on the impact toughness and microstructure of welded metal and heat affected zone for B grade steel. With welding procedures, welding heat inputs applied were 30, 79 and 264 kJ/cm, Prior austenite grain size in coarse zone has increased with increasing welding heat input for B grade steel. The toughness of fusion line zone of Bgrade steel has decreased with increasing welding heat input while the toughness fusion line +3 and +5 mm zone increased contrarily.

지진하중 조건의 비선형 유한요소해석에서 반복경화 거동 고려를 위한 Bi-linear 응력-변형률 곡선 (Bi-linear Stress-Strain Curves for Considering Cyclic Hardening Behavior of Materials in the Nonlinear FE Analysis under Seismic Loading Conditions)

  • This study compares true stress-true strain curves obtained by tensile tests of various piping materials with bi-linear stress-strain approximation suggested in the JSME Code Case(CC) Draft, a guideline for piping seismic inelastic response analysis. Based on the comparisons, the reliability of the bi-linear approximation is evaluated. It is found that bi-linear stress-strain curve of TP316 stainless steel is in good agreement with its true stress-true strain curve. However, Bi-linear stress-strain curves of TP304 stainless steel and carbon steels determined by the approximation cannot appropriately estimate their stress-strain behavior. Accordingly new bi-linear approximations for carbon steels and low-alloy steels are proposed. The proposed bi-linear approximations for carbon and low-alloy steels, which include the temperature effect on strength and hardening of material, estimate their stress-strain behavior reasonably well.

고온 환경에서 합금의 마모 및 마찰 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Wear Properties of Alloys in High Temperature Condition)

  • In this work we investigated the friction and wear characteristics of a magnesium alloy, which has been receiving much attention as a light metal in industrial applications such as automobiles and aerospace. Magnesium is one of the lightest structural material that has high specific strength, lightweight, low density and good formability. However, current issue of using magnesium alloy is that magnesium has weakness against temperature. As the temperature increases, magnesium undergoes poor creep resistance and ease of softening, and therefore, its mechanical strength decreases sharply. To solve this issue, a new type of magnesium alloy that retains high strength at high temperature has been proposed. The tribological behavior of this alloy was investigated using a tribotester with reciprocating motion and heating plate. A stainless steel ball was used as a counter surface. Results showed that extrusion process has similar wear behavior to the commonly used casting process but retains good mechanical strength and durability. The presence of an alloying element enhanced the wear properties especially in high temperature. This study is expected to be utilized as fundamental data for the replacement of high density materials currently used in mechanical industries to a much lighter and durable heat-resistant materials.

  • This study investigated deformation behavior of major nuclear structural materials under cyclic loading conditions via cyclic stress-strain test. The cyclic stress-strain tests were conducted on SA312 TP316 stainless steel and SA508 Gr.3 Cl.1 low-alloy steel, which are used as materials for primary piping and reactor pressure vessel nozzle respectively, under cyclic load with constant strain amplitude and constant load amplitude at room temperature (RT) and $316^{\circ}C$. From the results of tests, the cyclic hardening and softening behavior, stabilized cyclic stress-strain behavior, and ratcheting behavior of both materials were investigated at both RT and $316^{\circ}C$. In addition, appropriate considerations for cyclic deformation behavior in the structural integrity evaluation of major nuclear components under excessive seismic condition were discussed.

304 스테인레스강과 구조용탄소강과의 천이액상확산접합에 관한 연구 (A study on transient liquid phase diffusion bonding of 304 stainless steel and structural carbon steels)

  • The change of microstructure in the bonded interlayer and mechanical properties of the joints were investigated during Transient Liquid Phase Diffusion Bonding(TLP bonding) of STS304/SM17C and STS304/SM45C couples using Ni base amorphous alloys added boron and prepared alloy as insert metal. Main experimental results obtained in this study are as follows: 1) Isothermal solidification process was completed much faster than theoretically expected time, 14ks at 1473K temperature. Its completion times were 3.6ks at 1423K, 2.5ks at 1473K and 1.6ks at 1523K respectively. 2) As the concentration of boron in the insert metal increased, the more borides were precipitated near bonded interlayer and grain boundary of STS304 side during isothermal solidification process, its products were $M_{23}P(C,B)_6}_3)$ The formation of grain boundary during isothermal solidification process was completed at structural carbon steel after starting the solidfication at STS304 stainless steel. 4) The highest value of hardness was obtained at bonded interface of STS304 side. The desirable tensile properties were obtained from STS304/SM17C, STS304/SM45C using MBF50 and experimentally prepared insert metal with low boron concentration.

원전 가압기 노즐 및 안전단 재료에 대한 기계적 물성시험 연구 (A Study for Experiment to Measure Mechanical Properties of Pressurizer Nozzle and Safety-Ends in Nuclear Power Plant)

  • 최근 가압경수로형 원전의 가압기 노즐과 안전단 사이의 이종용접부에서 일차수응력부식균열에 대한 건전성 확보가 중요한 관심사항으로 대두되고 있다. 가압기 노즐은 SA508 Gr.3 저합금강이며 안전단은 F316L 스테인리스강으로, 이들 두 재료 사이에 용접재로는 Alloy 82/182가 사용되었다. 재료 결함에 대한 건전성 평가를 위해서는 재료의 기계적 물성치, 특히 인장물성과 파괴물성이 확보되어야 한다. 그러나, 일반적인 재료 규격과 시험성적서에서는 상온의 인장물성이 제공되지만 고온의 인장물성과 파괴인성이 제공되지 않는다. 따라서, 본 논문에서는 상온과 원전 운전온도에서 SA508 Gr.3과 F316L 스테인리스강에 대한 인장시험과 J-R 파괴인성시험을 수행하고 그 결과를 수록하였다.
