Social Support Mediated by Cognitive and Behavioral Determinants as Predictors of Body Mass Index among Korean Adolescents: A Structural Equation Model

  • Purpose: This investigation examined a model to predict body mass index in order to prevent later development of obesity among adolescents. The hypothesized model was developed based on the principle of Social Cognitive Theory that social influences predict perceptions of cognition as well as behavior. Method: The 5,770 adolescents, aged 14-18 who participated in this study came from 11 separate school districts in Busan and Kyungnam province of South Korea. The adolescent surveys were administered in a group setting at the participating school. Of the 5770 surveys, adolescents with more than 10 percent missing data in the entire survey were excluded. The final sample contained 4,527 cases. The adolescents were included 2,250 (49.7%) males and 2,277 (50.3%) females. Data was analyzed Pearson correlation coefficients using SPSS 12 program and structural equation model (SEM) using Maximum Likelihood estimation was employed using Amos 5.0. Results: Social support directly affects cognitive determinants. Cognitive determinants directly affect behavior determinants which directly affect BMI. Cognitive and behavioral factors mediated the relationship between social support and BMI (GFI= 0.984, CFI= 0.974, RMSEA=0.031). Conclusion: Social levels should be supportive to help adolescents have healthier behaviors. This support can be accomplished by providing frequent support to establish positive cognitive factors as the foundation of the solution to prevent overweight and obesity.

부분최소제곱모형을 위한 R 프로그램의 활용: SmartPLS와 R의 비교 (Utilization of R Program for the Partial Least Square Model: Comparison of SmartPLS and R)

  • 빅데이터로 인해 통계분석에 대한 수용이 증대되면서 구조방정식모형과 같은 진보된 2세대 분석방법의 필요성이 증가하고 있다. 본 연구는 다양한 연구 분야에서 이용되는 구조방정식모형 중 부분최소제곱모형(PLS-SEM)을 적용하는데 있어 오픈 소프트웨어인 R의 활용방법에 대해서 제안하고자 한다. R은 GNU 프로젝트의 일부로서 무료이고, 빅데이터를 포함한 통계분석에 강력하면서도 유용한 도구이다. 이에 부분최소제곱모형의 대표적인 통계패키지인 SmartPLS와 본 연구가 제안하는 R을 활용하여 측정모형의 집중타당성, 판별타당성, 내적일관성을 분석하고, 구조 모형의 경로계수 및 조절효과를 분석하여 결과를 각각 비교 분석하였다. 분석결과 R은 측정모형과 구조모형에서 모두 SmartPLS와 동일한 결과를 나타내었고, 향후 상용 통계패키지를 대체할 수 있는 강력한 도구임을 확인하였다.

Risk Factors of Work-related Upper Extremity Musculoskeletal Disorders in Male Shipyard Workers: Structural Equation Model Analysis

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to develop a model describing the interaction between lifestyle, job, and postural factors and parts of the upper extremities in shipyard workers. Methods: A questionnaire survey was given to 2,140 workers at a shipyard in Ulsan City. The questionnaire consisted of questions regarding the subjects' general characteristics, lifestyle, tenure, physical burden, job control, posture and musculoskeletal symptoms. The overall relationship between variables was analyzed by a structural equation model (SEM). Results: The positive rate of upper extremity musculoskeletal symptoms increased in employees who worked longer hours, had severe physical burden, and did not have any control over their job. Work with a more frequent unstable posture and for longer hours was also associated with an increased positive rate of musculoskeletal symptoms. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that unstable posture and physical burden were closely related to the positive rate of musculoskeletal symptoms after controlling for age, smoking, drinking, exercise, tenure, and job control. In SEM analysis, work-related musculoskeletal disease was influenced directly and indirectly by physical and job stress factors, lifestyle, age, and tenure (p < 0.05). The strongest correlations were found between physical factors and work-related musculoskeletal disease. Conclusion: The model in this study provides a better approximation of the complexity of the actual relationship between risk factors and work-related musculoskeletal disorders. Among the variables evaluated in this study, physical factors (work posture) had the strongest association with musculoskeletal disorders.

구조방정식모형을 이용한 휴먼에러 영향요인 분석 (Analysis of Human Error Influencing Factor Using SEM (Structural Equation Modeling))

  • Human error is often in part in the cause of accidents and the result of various factors in an organization. Accidents should be investigated to elucidate all causes. Therefore, to reduce accidents, it is necessary to identify which factors affect human error within the organization. In this study, five groups of influencing factors on human error were selected using previousresearch, and operational definitions were made based on them. In addition, a questionnaire for measuring latent variables by operational definition was developed as an observation variable, and responses were received from employees of chemical companies in Ulsan. Based on SEM (structural equation modeling) analysis, 1) confirmatory factor analysis of variables in the human error model, 2) reliability and validity of latent variables, 3) correlations among latent variables, 4) influencing coefficients among influence factors, and 5) the verification results of the paths that these influencing factors have on human error are introduced in this study.

Korean Students' Intentions to Use Mobile-Assisted Language Learning: Applying the Technology Acceptance Model

  • The purpose of this study was to examine how Korean students accept and use mobile-assisted language learning (MALL) and investigate related factors that potentially affect MALL usage. The participants were 244 undergraduate students who were surveyed with a questionnaire. The research model, which included students' self-efficacy, content reliability, interactivity, perceived enjoyment, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, attitude, and behavioral intention to use MALL, was developed based on the technology acceptance model (TAM). The structural equation modeling (SEM) technique was employed in order to analyze the overall results of modified TAM and the research model. The results indicated that TAM was a good theoretical tool to understand students' acceptance of MALL. In addition, all constructs, with the exception of self-efficacy and interactivity, had significant effects on students' acceptance possibilities of MALL. Limitations and suggestions for the further study are also presented.

Empirical Analysis of Decision Maker's Schema and Cognitive Fit on Decision Performance

  • This paper proposes a new framework to predict decision performance by investigating the cognitive fit of decision makers. We assume that every decision maker has two kinds of schema: emotional and rational. Cognitive fit is believed to have a close relationship with the two schemata and decision performance. In the literature on decision performance there is few studies investigating the relationship between the two schemata and cognitive fit. Therefore, our research purposes are twofold: (1) to provide a theoretical basis for the proposed framework describing the causal relationships among the two schemata, cognitive fit. and decision performance, and (2) to empirically prove its validity in the application to an Internet shopping environment. Based on the questionnaires from 104 respondents, we used a second order, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) model to extract valid constructs, and a structural equation model (SEM) to calculate path coefficients and prove the statistical validity of our proposed research model. The experimental results supported our research model.

승용차 운전자에 대한 사용성 평가 구조 모형 개발 (Development of a Usability Evaluation Structural Model on Car Driver)

  • This study aims to systematically develop a usability evaluation model using the Structural Equation Model (SEM) from experiment of usability on using vehicle. Vehicle developers have been adding many functions for enhance the user satisfaction. But it will be made the trade-off problem of usability and design elements of vehicle interior from attempt to make best usability satisfaction in a restricted space. To solve the trade-off problem, we set a new solution criterion from usability evaluation model. The usability experiment is based on major activity pool from derived user's acts pattern in vehicle for make more accurate usability evaluation model. And this model was built with twenty-nine measurement variables for the evaluation of usability of vehicle user. As a result, the proposed SEM model showed statistical significance as well as a high level of R Square (0.7144). This model shows the relationships of detailed usability and design elements. According to the result, this study introduces the criterion to secure the best satisfaction of usability and design elements.

지역정보 시스템 이용모형 개발을 위한 이론적 고찰 및 실증적 연구 (Understanding the Use of Community Informatics: A Structural Equation Modeling Approach)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 사회심리학 이론을 토대로 지역정보 시스템 이용모형을 개발함으로써, 지역주민을 위한 정보통신 서비스의 이용을 효과적으로 설명하는데 있다. 본 연구를 위해 필자는 Ajzen의 계획적 행위 이론(Theory of Planned Behavior: TPB)을 기본모형으로 선택하였는데, 이 이론은 (1) 지역정보 서비스 이용 결과에 대한 기대, (2) 주변 사람들의 권유, (3) 이용을 가능하게 하는 내외적 요인에 대한 자신의 통제 능력의 지각 등을 기본 골격으로 한다. 계획적 행위 이론은 일반적인 사회행동의 설명에 적용되어온 사회심리 이론이므로 필자는 지역정보 시스템 이용의 행동적 특성을 연구 모형에 반영하기 위하여 두 이론 즉, 인터넷 등 매체 이용을 설명하기 위하여 널리 적용되어온 이용과 충족 이론(Uses and gratifications)과 경영정보시스템 이용을 설명하기 위하여 적용되어 온 기술수용모형(Technology Acceptance Model: TAM)을 추가적으로 검토했다. 417명의 지역정보망 시스템 이용자로 부터 수집된 실증자료를 토대로 구조방정식모형(Structural Equation Model: SEM)을 이용하여 제안된 지역정보 시스템 이용모형을 검증한 후 향상된 수정 모형을 제안했다. 그 결과, 지역정보 시스템 이용에 영향을 미치는 주요 요인들로 지역정보를 이용하고자하는 의도, 태도, 주관적 규범, 정보습득에 대한 기대, 사회적 상호작용에 대한 기대, 지역 연계에 대한 기대, 및 개인관련 규범 신념 등을 밝혀 냈다. 이러한 결과를 중심으로 본 연구의 함의와 후속 연구과제가 결론에서 논의되었다.

소비가치, 웰빙태도가 웰빙지향행동에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Consumption Values and Well-being Attitude on Well-being Oriented Behavior)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of consumption values on well-being attitude and the effect of well-being attitude on well-being oriented behavior. This study administered a questionnaire survey to adults between 10s and 60s who lived in Seoul, Daegu, and Kyungbuk region. Data collected from 285 respondents were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA tests, factor analyses, and structural equation modeling (SEM). The model of the study was tested by structural equation modeling and the results of SEM revealed positive effects of social value and functional value on well-being attitude and positive effect of well-being attitude on well-being oriented behavior. The results of t-tests and ANOVA tests showed that there were significant differences in consumption values, well-being attitude, and well-being oriented behavior among marital status, age, educational level, and income level groups.

차별적인 교육품질이 학생만족과 학생 충성도에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Difference Education Quality on Student Satisfaction and Student Loyalty)

  • Purpose: The paper presents research that examine relationship difference education quality, satisfaction, loyalty in university education sector. Specifically, the effects of difference education quality on student satisfaction and loyalty in the context of education quality are examined. Methods: A model of difference education quality effect on student satisfaction and loyalty is introduced and tested in the university using student perceptions of provider. Questionnaire was developed, and data was collected and analyzed for this study with SEM(Structural Equation Modeling). Results: The results are as follows: Education capability, BNIE(Business Newspaper In Education) are significantly influenced on student satisfaction. In addition, student satisfaction is significantly influence on external customer satisfaction, professor image. Professor image is significantly influence on student loyalty. Conclusion: Upon learning of student need and want, professor can focus on development of difference education quality based on student need and want.
