윙렛 형상에 따른 공력 특성 해석 (Aerodynamic Analysis of Various Winglets)

  • 최근의 유가인상과 관련하여 상업용 및 군용 항공기 운용시의 연료 효율을 높이고자 하는 노력이 가속화되고 있다. 관련 연구에 의하면 수송기와 비즈니스 젯 항공기에 있어서 윙렛은 공력/구조적 효율성을 향상시키고, 적은 중량 증가로 저속 수송기의 상승 성능을 향상시킨다고 보고된 바 있다. 윙렛은 일반적으로 날개 끝에 장착되는 작은 공력면이며, 날개에 수직에 가깝게 장착되어 날개 끝단 와류의 순환 유동장내에서 작용한다. 윙렛의 설계는 위치, 높이, 테이퍼비, 후퇴각, 익형, toe-out 및 켄트각 등 많은 요소를 고려해야 하는 매우 복잡한 과정이다. 최근에는 미국 보잉사의 B737-800과 B787 등의 최신 기종에서 Blended 윙렛을 성공적으로 적용하여 날개끝의 길이를 늘리는 것(Wing Tip Extension) 보다 적은 추가 중량으로 같은 순항 성능을 도출하는데 성공하였다. 윙렛의 점성저항으로 인하여 최소항력은 증가하지만 높은 양력계수에서는 유도항력의 감소로 전체 항력이 감소하게 됨을 알 수 있다. 따라서, 윙렛은 강한 날개끝 와류를 발생시키는 높은 양력계수에서 순항하는 항공기에 더욱 적합하다.

대향류 슬롯 버너에서 이중 예혼합 선단화염의 전파특성 (Edge Flame propagation for Twin Premixed Counterflow Slot Burner)

  • Propagation rates ($U_{edge}$) of various premixed, twin edge-flames were measured as a function of global strain rate ($\sigma$), mixture strength, and Lewis number (Le). Using a counterflow slot-jet burner with electrical heaters at each end, both advancing (positive $U_{edge}$) and retreating (negative $U_{edge}$) edge-flames can be studied as they propagate along the long dimension of the burner. Experimental results are presented for premixed methane/air twin flames in terms of the effects of $\sigma$ on $U_{edge}$. Both low-$\sigma$ and high-$\sigma$ extinction limits were discovered for all mixtures tested. As a result, the domain of edge-flame stability was obtained in terms of heat loss factor and normalized flame thickness, and comparison with the numerical result of other researchers was also made. For low ($CH_4/O_2/CO_2$) and high ($C_3H_8$/air) Lewis number cases, propagation rates clearly show a strong dependence on Le.

한반도 및 동아시아 지역에서 조종사 보고 자료로 관측된 항공난류의 통계적 분석 (A Statistical Analysis of Aviation Turbulence Observed in Pilot Report (PIREP) over East Asia Including South Korea)

  • The statistical analysis of aviation turbulence occurred over South Korea and East Asia regions is performed, using pilot reports (PIREPs) during December 2002~November 2012 that were provided by the Korea Aviation Meteorological Agency (KAMA) and the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). In South Korea, the light (LGT)- and moderate or greater (MOG)-level turbulence events occurred most frequently in spring and winter due to strong vertical wind shear below or above jet stream in these seasons. Spatially, the LGT- and MOG-level events occurred mainly along domestic flight routes. The higher occurrences of the LGT- and MOG-level convectively induced turbulence (CIT) events show in spring and summer when convective systems frequently affect the Korean peninsula. The results are generally similar to a previous study on the aviation turbulence over South Korea during 2003~2008, except that MOG-level CIT events occurred more in February, June, and October. Over East Asia region, the LGT- and MOG-level events appeared mostly in summer and spring, respectively, and the highest occurrence is over the southeast region of Japan and Kamchatka peninsula near Russia.

작은 안내 깃이 붙은 원심형 임펠러의 소음 특성에 대한 연구 (A numerical study on the acoustic characteristics of centrifugal impeller with small added vane)

  • Centrifugal fans are widely used in industrial practices but the noise generated by these machines causes one of the most serious problems. In general, the centrifugal fan noise is often dominated by tones at BPF(blade passage frequency) and its higher harmonics. This is a consequence of the strong interaction between the flow discharged from the impeller and the cutoff in the easing. However, only a few researches have been carried out on predicting the noise because of the difficulty in obtaining detailed information about the flow field and casing effects on noise radiation. The objective of this study is to develop a prediction method for the unsteady flow field and the acoustic pressure field of a centrifugal fan, and to calculate the effects of small vanes that are attached in original impeller - Splitter impeller. We assume that the impeller rotates with a constant angular velocity and the flow field around the impeller is incompressible and inviscid. So, a discrete vortex method (DVM) is used to model the centrifugal fan and to calculate the flow field. The force of each element on the blade is calculated by the unsteady Bernoulli equation. Lowson's method is used to predict the acoustic source. The splitter impeller changes the acoustic characteristics as well as performance. Two-splitter type impeller and splitter impeller which splitter locates in jet region are good for acoustic characteristics.

회격자식 소각로의 열유동 해석과 결과 분석에 대한 고찰 (Discussion on the Practical Use of CFD for Grate Type Waste Incinerators)

  • Computational fluid dynamic(CFD) analysis has been frequently applied to the waste incinerators to understand the flow performance for various design and operating parameters. Since the computational modeling inevitably requires many simplifications and complicated sub-models, validity of the results should be carefully evaluated. In this study, major computational modeling and procedure of usual simulation methods for the grate-type waste incinerators were assessed. Usual simulation method does not explicitly incorporate the waste combustion, simply by assuming the combustion gas properties from the waste bed which is treated as an inlet plane. However, effect of this arbitrary assumption on the overall flow pattern is not significant, since the flow pattern is dominated by strong pattern of jet flows of the secondary air. Thus, this method is valid in understanding the effect of flow-related parameters. In analyzing the results, deriving conclusive information directly from temperature and chemical species concentration should be avoided, since the model prediction for the gaseous reaction and the radiation reveals significant discrepancies against the actual phenomena. Use of quantitative measures such as residence time is very efficient in evaluating the flow performance.

  • This computational study features the transient compressible and inviscid flow analysis on a metallic plasma discharge from the opposing composite electrodes which is subjected to pulsed electric power. The computations have been performed using the flux corrected transport algorithm on the axisymmetric two-dimensional domain of electrode gap and outer space along with the calculation of plasma compositions and thermophysical properties such as plasma electrical conductivity. The mass ablation from aluminum electrode surfaces are modeled with radiative flux from plasma column experiencing intense Joule heating. The computational results shows the highly ionized and highly under-expanded supersonic plasma discharge with strong shock structure of Mach disk and blast wave propagation, which is very similar to muzzle blast or axial plasma jet flows. Also, the geometrical effects of composite electrodes are investigated to compare the amount of mass ablation and penetration depth of plasma discharge.

NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF FUEL INJECTION IN INTAKE MANIFOLD AND INTAKE PROCESS OF A MPI NATURAL GAS ENGINE

  • Unsteady state free natural gas jets injected from several types of injectors were numerically simulated. Simulations showed good agreements with the schlieren experimental results. Moreover, injections of natural gas in intake manifolds of a single-valve engine and a double-valve engine were predicted as well. Predictions revealed that large volumetric injections of natural gas in intake manifolds led to strong impingement of natural gas with the intake valves, which as a result, gave rise to pronounced backward reflection of natural gas towards the inlets of intake manifolds, together with significant increase in pressure in intake manifold. Based on our simulations, we speculated that for engines with short intake manifolds, reflections of the mixture of natural gas and air were likely to approach the inlets of intake manifolds and subsequently be inbreathed into other cylinders, resulting in non-uniform mixture distributions between the cylinders. For engines with long intake manifolds, inasmuch as the degrees of intake interferences between the cylinders were not identical in light of the ignition sequences, non-uniform intake charge distributions between the cylinders would occur.

이중분류버너화염의 미세구조에 관한 실험적 연구 (An experimental study on microstructure of doubled jet burner flame)

  • One of the most useful method for increasing combustion loading of premixed flame is to strengthen the turbulent intensity of unburned mixture. It produces an important information to a design of efficient combustion equipment that analysing microstructure of strong turbulence premixed flame. The flame structure and characteristics are depend on the turbulence of unburned mixture. Therefore, to strengthen the turbulent intensity of unburned mixture make flame scale small and accomplish efficient combustion. We measured the velocity of local flame front movements, local eddy radius and local reaction zone thickness quantitatively with increasing turbulent intensity of unburned mixture. We researched the microstructure of flame using ion currents that react sensitively in the reaction zone. Consequently, the velocity of local flame front movements is depend on the velocity of unburned mixture and local eddy scale is to be small with increasing turbulent intensity. But there is no change in local reaction zone thickness with turbulence.

한국산 성대과(科)어류 2 미기록 (First records of the Two Triglid Fishes from Korea (Triglidae, Scorpaeniformes))

  • 1994년부터 1996년까지 우리나라의 남해 연안에 서식하고있는 성대과 어류를 채집하여 동정한 결과 지금까지 우리나라에서는 서식이 보고되지 않은 Lepidotrigla hime와 L. kishinouyei로 확인되어 한국산 미기록종으로 보고한다. L. hime는 형태적으로 L. abyssalis와 비슷하나 문단 가시가 발달되었고, 그 양쪽 가시폭이 양안 간격 보다 넓으며, 상악끝이 동공에 이르는 점이, 그리고 L. kishinouyei는 L.microptera와 비슷하나 문단 가시가 매우 크고 예리하며, 가슴지느라미 안쪽에는 검은 반점이 크게 있고 그 안에는 여러개의 소형 흰 반점들이 존재하는 점 등이 이들 유사종들과는 잘 구별되었다. 이들의 힌국명으로는 L. hime 를 "히메성대", L. kishinouyei를 "뿔성대"라고 명명하였다.
